"I am thinking about making a mixtape project...any tips?"

Hey. I just have a question. I am thinking about crafting a mixtape but I heard that there are a lot of rules and etiquettes that need be understood before completing and publishing one. I kind of have to reference a few tracks from mixtapes that have already been published so that my question can be understood…

Like the “Underneath The Sky Chapter 1” mixtape, when Mateo vocalizes on track 6 using the “Coldest Winter” Instrumental from the “808s & Heartbreak” album:

And when Daniel De Bourg does a complex rendition of Usher’s “Climax” on this mixtape: http://danieldebourg.bandcamp.com/album/the-ddb-mixtape-volume-3-outro

They both were able to use the official version of the instrumentals on both songs.

I heard that you have to contact the complete origin of the original instrumental and get permission to use the original instrumental from the sources that made it by actually meeting with the sources that were involved in making it before it can be officially used in a mixtape. Is that true and how does that work?

An officially free, all-around polite mixtape project with r&b and hip-hop influence is what I am thinking of crafting. I want to put some good messages into the project with official instrumentals that come from safe sources. Someone said that a basic, necessary fundamental of a proper mixtape project is that it is very safe to reference all-around, meaning the producers are all coming from safe origins and etcetera. I don’t know where that came from, but if someone could explain what that means that would be great.

Is there anything else to consider first before completing a mixtape for free? And what else is needed to craft and complete a proper mixtape? If anyone has experience, could you share any other tips with me? Any tips are much appreciated. Thanks and God bless.
