"OKP Gear Classifieds"

This post is dedicated mainly to buying and selling gear.

If you have a piece of equipment, some audio gear, a musical instrument, etc. you want to offload, post it in here. Feel free to set your terms however you want. Likewise, you can post up a want-to-buy in case someone has your dream sampler in a box under their bed. Keep in mind that all deals are made at your own risk!

Certain items, like software, sound packs, and the like are not allowed to be posted. Hard drives full of music, no go (there's clear legal reasons behind these restrictions). Computer systems may be subject to review but should be fine for the most part...just don't go talking about all the stuff loaded on them.

This is also a good place to post up great deals you run across elsewhere and even reviews of gear you're interested in. But if you want to make a separate post to talk about a piece of gear, that's fine too.

I was talking a lot about getting a microKorg a little while back, but keep seeing reviews comparing the two and the Micron consistently winning in terms of sound quality.

Plus, I've got pretty good-sized hands, and having tried out the microKorg's keys, I feel a little squeezed by them.

So yeah, anyone got a lead on one Micron in good shape, with/without vocoder mic?

I was in the market for a MK too but once I tried the Micron, it's no contest
the weakest part of Krog's game has always been the bank sounds, that's not to say the MK sounds like shit, but companies like Alesis and Yamaha have much better sounds

just better at modeling than the smaller Korgs.

And the vocoder is supposed to be better, but who knows how much I'll be using that.

AND the Micron has 8 voice polyphony, whereas the MicroKorg only has 4...which IMO kills the MK as being a serious idea recorder on the go.

I just copped a Micron for $225 watch me disappear for the weekend messing with this thing!

But a pawn shop on the edge of town posted late one afternoon that they'd gotten a Micron in, so I called them up first chance I could for hours, etc. Next morning, I rolled out there and grabbed it. They told me 5-10 people had called about it and a couple were talking about coming to get it too.

I got there less than 15 min after they opened..lol...and with sales tax factored into the cost, I was not about to get a better deal.

Since then, I've been working on a project that hasn't involved synthesizer work, but I have been messing with it constantly. The stock vocoder sounds are alright and *work* great, and since it's fully programmable, I should be able to create super-customized patches.

There's a lot of resources out there about patch making, and it seems it's way easier to tweak the existing patches than just create new ones, but that's cool.

On the downside, it looks like it has a proprietary bank setup, so I can't use standard MIDI bank commands to pull up patches in a studio setting. I think I can find specific patches' addresses by trial and error, which might be cool if I want to control the Micron doing a line so intricate I just can't play it without editing the sequencer piano roll.

Once I finish this project, I'll have more time to really test the thing's capabilities.

And that said...one reason I started checking for it was because the microKorg XL was $500 lol...the 8-voice polyphony was a huge selling point, and add extra features & the ability to record internally and I was good.

I use the alesis ion almost exclusively, it's basically the micron with more keys and knobs. and i've compared it to every other VA - nord, roland, virus. you can tune a resonant filter on white noise and make bass that will pop your speaker. these other VAs might have better presets and more voices but the filters are not hanging with the alesis.

the only other virtual analog that is probably better is the john bowen solaris, but it's crazy expensive and rare.

My last console was a ASR-X PRO(the red joints)...
the operation system on it crashed a couple years ago so I've
been handling my drum-programming solely thru FL for the last minute....but a Bruh itchin' for some pads man...gotta have dem pads.

My lab setup is nice & compact so the portability of the 5hunnid will
be perfect for my workspace, ya dig.

I'd suggest either getting the 1ooo, or getting a SP-3o3
the 3o3 is about the same price as the 5oo and it's MUCH easier to use
