i'm curious about the limitations of the contest. i know you can't just chop up a de la soul joint and throw it in there, but what are you allowed to use?

It's all smoothed-out, with some regular boom bap, it would've been cool if you thru some of the other instruments in there more often but other than that, it's still a nice remix.

well - I started trying to get a beat together at right tempo and then finding a hook and just settled on those lyrics and the chorus melody - through listening to stuff plus its one of my favourite songs to play in our band, plus I have the masters of our studio work - the actual beat is
1. chopped up bass line from our own studio performance 2. chopped and flipped vocals from studio performance 3. sampled my own drums for whole track plus layers of extra drums for hook

I just have to say I hate the public voting system. It's all about how many friends you have and how many you can get to vote for you - not the quality of your music. Some of the tracks in the top 25 do not deserve to be there.

I've slipped down to 6th place (at last count), but I remained in the Top 5 from the jump without spamming or anything like that, just asking friends to check it out.
But you're right, a lot of these contenders are straight wack. It's all good though, because in the 2nd round, spamming won't help them.

I definitely like the vibe you're going for. Not sure if you're asking for it but here's some constructive feedback, IMHO:
- The echoing percussive hit on beats 2 and 4 is too much. It's too echo=y and too persistent so it becomes annoying. - Needs more mixing - it's a very muddy mix, sounds like everything's sitting center pan and there's too many voices in the mid frequencies. - Needs some more rhythmic and textural variety.
So I entered the contest and I'm hoping I can make it into round 2. Votes would be really appreciated but if u like my verse I'd like to know. I know this is more for producers but I tried to switch it up a lil bit.
Been hovering within the Top 25. Voting ends tomorrow at noon. Just want to be sure that my spot is secure for Round 2. If you haven't already, please vote!!
