So my current cheap ass crates are breaking one by one, and I need something a little more durable to hold my smallish (300 or so) vinyl collection. Anybody got a cost effective solution that'll allow me a little room to grow?

You can get an Expedite at Ikea for about $99. They provide good storage in the cube shaped shelves
