I got this one (http://www.digitech.com/products/images/whammy.jpg).
Basically it's like a whammy bar but capable of going to incredible pitches. You can use it on your voice too for cool shit.)
You turn the knob to select the range from like -2 octaves to +2 octaves and the you use the pedal sort of like a pitch wheel.

Mattias "Ia" Eklundh is able to get all the sounds of the whammy pedal with just using harmonics.

I don't know, if you have specific things you wanna talk about I can, otherwise I can only say things that you can read anywhere on digitechs site. (I really only use distortion effects cost too much and there are too many choices so I just plug and play instead of having to think about a rig)

The sound really suits shred but you can also use it for prog rock. If you're real creative you can use it in almost any situation. It's just a pitch shifter, really.

Prince uses it a lot since maybe the Undertaker video. You hear it a lot on NEWS and 3121 - I think he even used it for the vocal treatment on 3121. If you have a POD, you can download it as a newer patch.

I have it but rarely ever use it because it's so distinct, if you bust it out, especially in funk rock, you are immediately clocked for aping Tom Morello from Rage, or Prince.
