>How many guitars do you own?
at this point, only 1
>Which is your main axe and why?
a Martin Shenandoah... low-range Martin, made from imported parts but assembled at the Nazareth plant, sort of a cross between the Sigma and their super expensive dreadnoughts and whatnot.
I grew up playing a Sigma which has actually aged fairly well, but loaned it out to my sister who expressed an interest in playing but hasn't touched it in the year she's had it. Pretty much I only used that for camping, though.
>6 string or 12 string why?
6 string. I've never really played a 12 string.
I like open tunings a lot. 6 strings are enough of a pain in the ass.
>Who are your influences?
As far as guitar styles go, mostly fingerpickers... Mississippi John Hurt, Richard Thompson, Dick Gaughan, Arty McGlynn, Jorma Kaukonen, Bert Jansch & John Renbourn, Tom Rush's early stuff, and of course guys like Leo Kottke and John Fahey.
>Who has the perfect tone?
His playing is perfectly simple, but I love the late great Ted Hawkins's sound.
>Who is killing it today?
Chris Whitley did up until he died two years or so ago.
>Who is underrated?
On OKP, Richard Thompson (though I was psyched to see him in the press conference pic linked up on the front page the other day). In the real world? Probably JB Lenoir, who made some of my favorite blues music in the mid-60s.
>Effects?
nope
>Describe your style...
mellow
>What do you think you do well on guitar?
basic fingerstyle, creative arrangements, good use of tunings.
>What do you think you can improve on?
I'm bad at 'lead' guitar
>How do you feel abt guitar usage in in popular music?
I don't listen to a lot of popular music these days, either rock or the other stuff.
>Post a sample of your work, even if you are new.
on the myspace, there's a fingerpicked tune called Barb'ry Allen that I'm pretty proud of. Coupla flubs, but nothing too major - it was done on the first and only take when I recorded it.
The intro to 'Pallet...' on there is another fingerpicked part I like a lot, but it gets steamrolled pretty quickly in the arrangement. The other tunes have little to no guitar.
Here's a link for a more aggressive piece in DADGAD tuning, with the closest I've come to a 'lead' part. I think this is the only thing I've recorded so far where i used a pick on the guitar... http://www.sendspace.com/file/75efey
And here's one for a very mellow piece in open G. Thhe guitar sound is filled out with a lap dulcimer, and the lead is played on mandolin: http://www.sendspace.com/file/qdoa33
>Pick the bassist* and drummer you'd most love to power trio >with...
Willie Dixon and Fred Below. I suck at straight up blues, though.
