What up, what you need? I play an Ibanez artcore into a Mesa Nomad 55 into an Avatar 2x12. Fattest biggest tone you'll find for miles.

I'm not going to be good for too much that's not bluesy or country inflected, really.

I've got a little fingerstyle/folk-jazz piece I could ass some rhythm to and put up if you'd like that. Could make for some interesting soloing for you guys.

The new track on myspace has me playing my old ukelele, though. Lots of fun.

i used to fall asleep with my guitar... i used to play it until my fingers bled... mostly, all i played was finger excercizes and no actual songs.. eventually.. when my fingers were strong and fast enough... i began to jam... just improvise whatever.. and that's when it really became real to me...

I'm pretty impressed, sounds good for a software POD, basically. The ampeg simulator isn't bad, and the tweed and deluxe sims are decent. The mic and cabinet modeling is the good part imo.

I'm setting up a rehearsal file in Native Instruments Kore... rehearsals at my house with no amps or stompboxes (except maybe the occaisonal wah).

Did this tonight in about 45 minutes and of course it'll show but hopefully some of you will be able to have some fun with it.

I think this one'll be a lot more challenging to solo over than the straight up blues we did last time. It's a fingerpicked 20-bar swing in D minor, a composite of riffs in drop D tuning I've beenmessing with for years. It's played through 5 times, each time through roughly 55 seconds. I figure with 5 times through, somebody could rip over cycles 2-5, or if 5 people want to take shots we could have solos all 5 times through. TommyWhy's going to hate it since I most obviously failed to use a metronome. I tried, but I hate it. Ah well.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/uuvdun

Cycle 1: intro through 1:03 (pretty sloppy guitar work from me, so if someone really wants to add to this please please be my guest)

Cycle 2: 1:04 through 2:00 flat

Cycle 3: 2:01 through 2:56

Cycle 4: 2:57 through 3:51

Cycle 5: 3:52 ---> out

Also, Tommy or soulfunk if you want to play bass, I'll re-rip it minus the bass part... it's mostly in there b/c the guitar part sounded too hollow to solo over by itself. I think it wound up sounding decent but it's just my tub so if you want to flex some chops please let me know. Preferably before we get any guitar solo takers...

Also if anyone wants to add an organ part or something that could sound sweet. Whatever works... just have fun.

cocktail parties where you noone really knows anyone else, you come in, shake hands, have a drink, and leave an hour later without really having had any fun.

Consider this the game of Twister... and you can play and maybe have some fun, or you can stand around waiting for everyone else to fall down.

Man, all that sounds retarded. It's too late. Must sleep.

I suck on guitar, and I just find that way too complicated to jam over.
But we need to do something man, we can't let the computer machine muscians takeover the world.

and you have some degree of natural talent, you can be playing out within a year. It helps if you get at least a couple of lessons to point you in the right direction, if you are a diligent student of the instrument, if you are focused and purposeful in your listening (a hugely important factor in learning to play is listening to recordings or live performances).

as well as your fingers. Try to get up at a jam session, even if you don't feel ready. Be prepared to embarass yourself, and learn to shake it off. Strive to be surrounded by players who are better than you. Learn to play the blues even if you aren't into it (it's one of the quickest ways to be able to jam with others, and you'll get into it anyway).

Good luck.

Yeah I'm scouring every online forum I can find for music to listen to throughout the day. Making contacts locally through a couple of friends so I'm sure once I have some basics down I can network for jam sessions... also making an effort to train my ear while that happens.

Thanks one more time, and just to let you and the rest of those in this post that your presence on the boards is greatly appreciated. There is often a certain flavor missing from many other places where guitarists congregate to talk about their craft.

Just like a lot of music discussion here ends up being bullshit, sometimes the bass/guitar discussions are always about gear, and stuff that shouldn't matter. Sometimes you have better luck transposing the discussions to the "wrong" forum. But there is always good shit in there too, like links to good online lessons.

I mean, the guitar is an obvious one... what woods it's made from, especially the top; how old it is; and very importantly to me, the action on the neck... I can remember when I was about 17 and the guy at my shop sanded down the bridge for me, what a difference it made in my left-hand confidence and how much of a cleaner tone resulted.

Also think about your strings and what gauge and metal is going to be bright enough and deep enough to get the feel you want. I like medium-lights for fingerstyle, I think, but they can get a little tinny in the higher registers when played through a system. I haven't used nickel-wounds in a while, but recall thinking they sounded great.

I dunno, I just think a lot of people starting in on acoustic get frustrated b/c their guitar doesn't sound good, when all they really need to do to get it to sound better is some basic stuff.

I'm really not a gear head, though, so maybe someone else will chime in. But off the top of my head, I'd say there's no reason you need to spend more than $500 or so to get everything you're lookinig for... I haven't played any of their newer guitars, but for a while in th mid '90s Takamine was killing it in the low/mid-range market... but they got some hate in another post on here recently, so *shrug* good luck getting it figured out.
