Chill vibe, consistent.

Definately nothing I haven't heard before, but you do this style well.

I could even see flowing to something along these lines, kind of J*Davey like.

Good stuff.

In response to Reply # 1

the first track--> i thought the initial flute\synth sound's attack was a bit sharp, at least at the beginning. other than that the track was dope.

twilight dunes--> i like your shit. it sounds a lil light in the drums and bass, but i think youve done that purposely. i think its slightly too minimalistic. maybe just some strings over the top. i liked this one more than the first.

Low Tide Break - I really like the chill vibe. At the very end the kick pattern was noticably the same, maybe add a section where it switches up?

Twilight - nice

it takes a few seconds to start, my error at mixdown

likewise, peep the t songs beneath it- those are my first songs. im the first mc on sinners and saints, the second mc on shadows. i did both beats as well

plus my page is fucked up- scan t the right and you can see it, the layout is just real wide for some odd reason

Cool. Pretty good production. Energetic beats, that's always good. The rhyming didn't do it for me. It wasn't bad, but rhythmically it just wasn't quite in the pocket, and the voices didn't have enough of that confidence that just comes from recording many songs and years of live shows.

But I do see a strength in the ability to compose a chorus. I thought that was done pretty well, especially the vocal laying on the hook.

Peace.

Grown music is dope.

the sample you chopped on cafe is insane. its a great beat. i would take otu the crash cymbals though. i feel like they dont fit.

on war, the sample again is dope as hell but the crashes get annoying

The input i said for the ast two joints goes teh same for notepad. the samples are crazy. but the the cymbals dog.

Thanks for the listens.

'Track 7' was just a bunch of FL library sounds. Like I said, I THOUGHT it was fire! For a first shot though that shit came out decent.

Works been crazy, I'll be back through next week to listen to stuff.

If i were you I'd try to bring the first (repeating) guitar riff up in the mix and place an occasional accent on the first note of it, maybe sounding the same note on another guitar or even another instrument, That's just me though. Its cool though.

Apparently, it's a celebration....bitches.

In response to Reply # 4

creative sampling, would preffer some livelier drums and a more fluid drum track personally

again though, creative sampling. the kicks have a nice punch, just the pattern and the snare i would like to hear flipped

drums on Testin are dope, pattern and all. the sample is dope, would like the sample to move a little more on this lol. i'm never satisfied. drums are bangin here though.

daybreak- here is the balance i been wantin hear. good shit. needs an mc to spit some illness over it now.

kuti... dope shit. could use a little more of a fluid motion drumwise, but thats not even that big a deal here. good work.

everything knocks. My favorite joints are lochness and testin. I think you could flip the drums on testin a little better to give it more continuity.

lochness--> this is dope for some deconstructed sounding ish. i think the ladies voice should be truncated shorter.

testin--> this sounds bizarre cause the drums are panned too far with nothing balancing the other side.

I LOVE IT!

i dont normally like making suggestions or anything to other ppls beats (im a terrible feedback person) but i would love to hear the kick drums sound a bit less.. like they do.. and then for maybe a 808 or some bass thump just to play off those kicks

but i think this joint is really neat man

needs a different hat sound to my ears though. this would benefit from layering the samples with different filter and pan settings. the hats kinda mess this up for me though, i would simply suggest a new hat pattern and hat sound.

richard long- again, imaginative and outside the box...however, it sounds like an intro, a buildup to something that just never arrives. the sample is promising but honestly i would go back to the drawing board on the drums. the sample could be a banger but the drums let it down.

maybe you will understand me now.... love the drums on here, just fel like they clash a bit with the sample.

hey thanks for some feedback. yeah i'm pretty much just experimenting a lot now a days, i'm definitely feeling the comments, sometimes i try to force sounds together that don't really belong, like i'm close to getting it and then i don't.

Just a heads up, if you're gonna have a download you should post it in MP3 format to save folks the download time and space. Which ever program you use might have a 'Render to MP3' option. Look into it.

Best Think - Nice swing and feel to it. Could use some more elements I think. I get lost in the track, meaning I can't really follow the structure of the song. The hat gets a little annoying, maybe add some more variation to it.

ok, the beat still feels like a promising start. actually this is dope, some nice scratched vocals and we have a beautiful intro. good work.

before dawn... great sample. nice bangin line, solid bass, pete rock would be proud.

the aura.. these drums remind me of battlecat. nice chill vibes all around your page. like the synth scratch sound that comes in.

Thank u. I agree, I'm still not done with the beat, there are a few other sprinkles from the record I want to include on that one.

that's a pretty cool groove. I'm with Truth, could use something a little different like some guitar. Or to keep with the smooth feel, some DJ Quick type flute riffs to give it alittle more funk.

Vous Aimes - nice and simple, enough room and mood for an emcee to flip that.

Ivory - dug it up until the voice gets chopped it, then it feels overly chopped and looses focus to me.

Listen - I'm picking up a pattern here. It seems like you chop the hell out of one song, using a lot of parts of it but not really any samples from any other sources, and put drums under it. Not to say these aren't good grooves, or good starting points, but they just don't have enough creativity in them for me to appreciate it, or enough to elevate these chops past the samples you are using to consider it a truly original new work.

A Slow One - feel the same. Really too safe without any fingerprints.

Appreciate the listen.

Peace,

Toe

You have a good ear for grooves, but there's not enough in the beats to make them stand out to me. And the repitition gets old. I felt that for all the beats.

And the vocals sounded off on the "remix".

I do like your drum sounds and programming, tho.

2.2 - Disjointed. Really sounded messy.

2.4 - The same. Disjointed. Poor mix.

After All We Said - Started on more of a groove. Was promising. Then got pretty lost. Way to many different keys. Music theory is not always bad.

Can't listen to any more. Sorry...

over all they are cheer, but here is some contructive feedback.
That 1st joint, Blaise, you KILLED ME when you had that pad
at the beginning and then just CUT IT OFF, no release or nothing,
just cut, that's a wrap. I was MAD. Otherwise the track was alright
probably could have used a sprinkle of shakers or closed high hat
here and there, but it was straight. Also, some of your synths or
synth/lead loops, you might want to run them throw a chorus
effect or some (NOT ALOT) of reverb. Peace.

blaise -- intro pad thing was a little weird, not sure that the cut off works as an intro? drum break needed to switch up a little more. samples are mixed nicely.

draculove -- not sure the snare sound fits with the mix. nice combination of samples + synth. sorta a little too ambient for my tastes, but nicely done for a downtempo thing.

you're never gonna -- the best of the three, i think. has a premier feel, which i'm into it. don't really like those hihats that come in. i think you could get more out of this beat, though -- sample works nicely, but i think you could get it to knock a little harder with a better use of space for the drums + a better drum kit. thinking of "d'evils" as an example.

overall, think maybe this style is just not my sort of thing, but your mixing/choice of samples is good.

I agree on the drums sounds switching up. This has actually been written to already by my African Drum teacher Blaise, who raps in bete, which is a mix of French and African dialects. Sounds smooth as hell.

I've actually found that this beat is really good to flow to. I think a lil reverb and lower volume will help the snare.

This beat has already been sold. Had the myspace page about a week. Already sold one off the page and another as a result of that. The high-hats can go down. The repitition works well for an emcee.

Thanks. I have many different styles, so stay tuned.

Actually two new beats/songs on the page right now.

The beat is cool but a little boring

The drums that you used were cool could have been better.

It didnt really do anything for me energy wise. It doent make me feel anything its kind of just there.

You should maybe add a voice samp or another synth it might help.

Also it takes way too long for the changes to occur an average listener might loose intrest and miss the decent changes near the end.

Also i liked the change up that closed it that was dope. I liked that better than the main loop.

Its an average beat imo

Yeah, I make all my beats for emcees, so I try to keep the changes to a minimum. Good thing you're not advising Dr. Dre, eh?
The beats been sold already (my first sell!).

That change sounds so good just because it's so different, but using the same sounds.

Couldn't resist the subject line.

I think this same production would sound better of the actual melody was cooler. The melody is kind of clunky, so as nice as some of the sounds are they don't hook the listener.

I didn't like that first pause in there, that was totally
silent, it was too abrupt. That guitar rift could
use some more variation per bar, or something to make it
continuous. The rhythym is ok.

The "So Sexy" remix is suffering from serious lack of melody. Her voice is out there on it's own, so it never gels. Too many percussive sounds trying to make up for a lack of a little good keyboard playing.

Peace.

Move On/Parade - I like guitar loop. It works well. With the rhymes it doesn't really get old, just rotates nicely. But the low end is suffering. That bassline especially could use some doubling. If that were thicker you could play with the cutting of other parts in and out.

Peace.

after that initial "are we there yet" moment.
Nice stripped down slowed down acid bossa nova kind of feel.

Murder Rap - Not cheesy enough. Seriously. If you're going to go there go all the way! Almost there. Not qute gully enough.

I Rock the Spot - Hot shit!!!

Tonight - Again, hot! Feeling the energy. Deep groove. Spectrums covered nicely.

Late Night Shifty - I like this, but pump up or double the bassline on that sample. It's too highy and not enough lowy.

Peace.

Welcome 2 Durham - Starts cool, but that keyboard gets abrasive and is hard to listen to. Also, it seemed like there were no changes, or even stripping things in and out. It got boring to listen to.

Peace.

Seemed like anybody could make that. Not very destinct. And rhythm without melody can lack emotion. This is one of those cases.

Well programmed, just kind of generic.

Check my "tribal" beat I just put on my page www.myspace.com/ToeJamBeats
