That crash is really getting on my nerves. Shrill. The beat doesn't quite do the sample justice. I like the chopping but the drum programing and drum sounds need to step up.

kinda, dirty, faster than usual paranoid shit. with ska/reggae break downs all through out (tempo changes alot). erm spoken word 'verse' by myself, and highly effected chorus 'sung' by me. i played bass, acoustic (so i could sample it), and some of the percusion . its called drowning in the new world order.

i dig the concept. you had solid rhythm and chord progressions, and i liked the distinction between the different sections throughout - like how you'd go into halfstop for 8/16 bars and then double it back up. so the compositional aspect of things was pretty good, apart from that annoying bleeping noise. I honestly wasn't feeling that, if only for the fact that you put it on a different beat every single bar - it's pretty much impossible for a groove to settle in that way. as far as technical aspects go, I'd just say you need to spend a little more time mixing. like in the beginning, the drums are pretty quiet and bland - put a compressor on those f-ers! - while the loud bleepy thing is practically deafening. I found myself listening more to that than the actual drum groove, which is something you really don't want your listeners to have to do. I also couldn't make out your lyrics at all, but I dunno if you wanted it that way or if it's just the mic or whatever. not a big deal since nobody really cares about lyrics (especially in this forum).
overall good work, especially with all the compositional elements. I would just spend a little more time in post production if I were you.

yeah man i pretty much agree with you. I got a mix where the bleeping is not really on it. The bleeping was just a chopped sample of me playing a guitar riff, so i just used the riff instead. yeah mixing was pretty poor. thanks for the advice man!

yeah i know what you mean. it's pretty much meant to be rhymed over, which is why it doesn't change much. i mean intro/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/outro is pretty much all any song does.
thanks for the kind words though. i'm not sure i'm feeling it as much as I was the other day. running kinda low on inspiration lately. I'm thinking of getting a trigger finger soon and seeing if that sparks any possibilities...

actually the first thing that came to mind was up-tempo (but quiet) rapping, for the "verse" part at least. i can hear the cadence in my head.. it could even be a part for the guy she would talk about in the spoken word. maybe rapping would change the mood too much though. anyway i'll stop tryna finish your song, but good luck with it, you should put it on something (if it's incompatible with your album, it could be a hidden track?)

LOL You know how much I learned doing that piece?? It's OK if you have principles, but don't expect everyone else to follow them.
And by the way, Extra P doesn't have this on lock. When there is a discussion about the best beats of all time is "It Ain't Hard To Tell" ever mentioned? Is it on the level of "The World Is Yours", "One Love" or the classic tracks on "Breaking Atoms"?
I said this on another site, with a top ten beat behind it "It Ain't Hard To Tell" could have been the song to end all songs. It's dope but it ain't that dope.
I've got so much respect for all the great producers that post here. I know you guys are gonna likely think it's awful, but any advice from the experienced dudes here would help me a whole lot.

i downloaded "what's next" the drums are dope - good beat, & the bass works well with it but, imo, the melodies on top don't do it for me. nice sounding instruments, but overall it sounds kind of spare if i were you i'd try adding in some other instruments, and also focus on developing one of the melodies (the second one that comes in is my favorite) instead of having 3 rather disjointed patterns, to make it more "musical". when it went from the first to the second, my ear was jolted a bit. hope that was some help... feel free to visit my page & give me feedback (link below)
