To the lyricists, vocalists, and emcees -- how do you balance the writing / recording processes?
All vocalists have different quirks, strengths, weaknesses, and writing styles, obviously. But where some can listen to a beat and jump in the booth that day, I need to take my time to write every single bar, to the breath. When it comes to writing, speed just isn't my strong suit, so when I read about those of you who write your songs on the spot -- I get maaaad jealous!!! I want to know how you all do it!
But, I have recorded a few joints without writing. To me, there is a difference between straight up freestyling and 'making a verse on the spot'.
I don't think many people can go into the booth and freestyle something that they will allow to become a finished song.
Anyway - just put the headphones on with a beat you like...get in front of the mic... When you think of that first line (or few) that you WOULD HAVE WRITTEN, press record and record the lines. Listen to those lines, and think what lines you would write next...record those lines. Obviously this works best if your recording time isn't limited (home studio)
There are pros and cons to all of the different approaches to writing.

After a while ull figure out how ur brain works, what u gotta do to whip it right lol I usually freestyle on paper (1st draft), reorganize line scribble out sht, put arrows places, then Rip em out n write the new draft frm tht one (thts readable n the booth lol) Takes me abt 20 minutes
