"Official GIJOE Rise of Cobra Post"

Didn't see one so..Boom.
This looks like another big piece of nostalgic toy selling drivel but it looks like a lot of fun. I saw the toys at Target and I was a kid again...are they gonna fuck this up royal or do it some justice like the first 'live-action' Transformers movie? Will it have Cobra-lalalalalalala?
Destro's rocking the mask on the toy so that spoiled the movie a bit.
I wanna see Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow fight that fight I saw in my head as a kid. I hope it's at least entertaining.

Harry has seen G.I. JOE - and is looking forward to seeing it again!
A few weeks ago, I got a voice mail from Stephen Sommers that took me to task for calling VAN HELSING ridiculously goofy retarded fun. He remembered that I gave VAN HELSING a positive review – but if you go back and you look at that review – I talk about Saturday Morning Cartoons, about the sugary confections one must consume to get your brain to the hyper-mental glee state that was necessary to enjoy Saturday Morning Universal Monsters. And while Sommers and I haven’t spoken since that voice mail, if I were to talk to him – I’d say… “What’s wrong with goofy retarded fun, I like it, but I can admit that it’s got goofy retarded fun in it.” And if he asked what was goofily retarded… I’d point out FRANKENSTEIN’s Monster SWINGING. The very definition of goofy retarded fun.

G.I. JOE is not VAN HELSING. It is also not the MUMMY films, nor is it DEEP RISING. In fact, it is very much Sommers’ most fun film and possibly his best work to date.

G.I. JOE starts off with a flashback to an early ancestor of Christopher Eccleston’s character – who got spanked pretty seriously for being dead set on fulfilling his family’s right to… “TAKE OVER THE WORLD”. Actually, it’s never really stated like that – and honestly, I’m not a real fan of this flashback.

That said, when we flash forward to “The Not Too Distant Future” - we meet Channing Tatum’s DUKE and Marlon Wayans’ RIPCORD. Now… I have to confess, I was terrified of these two. I’d seen Tatum in two films that I haven’t liked this year – and the first, FIGHTING – I outright hated him. GENERATION KILL was the only thing I was holding on to really. And Marlon Wayans. Oh God. If Jar Jar were a real live human, he would be Marlon Wayans. And yes, I’m aware that I like Jar Jar, but that doesn’t mean I want EXTENDED TIME WITH HIM CONSTANTLY. I was terrified by Marlon Wayans’ presence.

Well, when we get introduced to these two, they’re heading up a military convoy guarding 4 crazy dangerous high tech Gort bugs that eat everything, sort of like a warhead with miniature me’s in them. Anyway, they haven’t been weaponized yet, but Duke’s elite special forces team in 3 big Humvee things and backed up with two Apache helicopters are heading to some unknown location… When the BAD GUYS strike – led by The Baroness.

Now – this opening sequence, it is actually kind of intensely scary, but in a VERY COOL WAY! Essentially, the pre-Cobra flying ship comes swooping in, using some energy weapon to completely wipe out the Apaches – and laying scorched Earth pimp slapping of the Humvees. This ship swats the missiles fired at it out of the skies. This one segment of the film, tonally, is just so much fun. Because when you’re the best trained American Soldier… getting your ass handed to you by an enemy that makes your weapon systems seem like Bow & Arrows… that’s a new situation.

Duke has history with the Baroness in this film, don’t remember that in the series, but hey… Spock is fucking Uhura – at least they’re not treating these characters like the plastic Eunichs from which this all sprung. Duke is saved by SNAKE EYES, SCARLETT and HEAVY DUTY, who drive off the Pre-Cobras.

Before we get too much further – I have to say, I’m not a huge fan of the GI JOE cartoons, the comics were better, but the toys were incredibly fun to play with. I’ve been watching the toons recently – as I was sent the entire series of GI JOE and TRANSFORMERS a couple of weeks back – and there’s a lot of fun in the JOE cartoons, but the idea of no fatalities, the extremely corny dialogue and non-stop puns and cheesy dialogue. Well, it didn’t age as well as I had hoped.

I was expecting this movie to be far more jokey, tons of cheese and really serious eye-rolling while groaning. Instead, what I got was a fairly straight adaptation of the script, which I always thought would work as a serviceable all-ages GI JOE movie. Although, this is a bit more violent than I was expecting. Blades can cut, death does happen in this universe, but it isn’t anything out of whack with the rating. I don’t believe there’s any foul language – and all flirtation is kept in very good tastes (ahem, BAY!)

After that opening intro to the JOES and Pre-Cobras – Duke and Ripcord are taken to “THE PIT” aka GI JOE Headquarters. Which, in the not too distant future is in Egypt. Guess all this Middle East stuff works out. Anyway, THE PIT is crazy gadget cool. You know how in the comics – there were those CUT AWAY maps that showed you where various things happened. The elevator ride down to where their orientation and induction into the ranks of GI JOE… well, it is like the most inflated cool Q scene in a Bond film.

As Ripcord and Duke get tested – you get to see them doing all manners of cool JOE drills. And honestly – I could’ve just spent the entire first movie just training with these characters in THE PIT. There’s so much cool stuff in there – and as it is – we just get an extended whirlwind through it all.

Now how “goofy” is the tech of the film? It really isn’t. As a geek, I read about as many military inventions and crazy tech as I can get my hands on. So their INVISIBLE SUIT – I read that story last year in the papers. The accelerator suits, the Army has absolutely been heading in that direction. Energy weapons? Yup, they’re working on it. So this NOT TOO DISTANT FUTURE – I give it to them. And as any dog tag wearing JOE freak will attest, there’s so much tech that didn’t exist in just about every episode. That’s what I loved.

The other aspect of JOE that Duke and Ripcord get introduced to is the conceit that GI JOE is made up of the best soldiers from around the world. That was another of my favorite aspects of GI JOE. The only real problem that I have with the film is some of the design conceits. It’s almost like HASBRO ordered them to disregard all of that, so they’d have a whole new line of figures to sell. I’ve given the JOE redesign a lot of thought – and there’s a part of me that kinda agrees that it’d look a little VILLAGE PEOPLE to go with their original looks. That Scarlett has red hair and that Cover Girl was HOT – and HEAVY DUTY was no nonsense and BREAKER was cool… I was happy. SNAKE EYES – I’m still not sold on the molded look, but what Ray Park does in that suit… it’s crazy cool.

The design problems bugged me in advance on the COBRA side. In the script, I got that they were essentially doing the COBRA origin story. It isn’t till the end of the film that COBRA is actually born. So… Hopefully – if this film succeeds, as it should, we’ll get a sequel with the correct Cobra uniforms… I love that blue.

In my opinion this is a vastly superior adaptation than either of the TRANSFORMERS movies. For one, this really is a GI JOE story, not a story of a teenager with grandpa’s glasses. Here, the world is in peril in a coherent way. It isn’t just MEGATRON on a building screaming insults at a boy. But these bad guys, they seriously want to rule the world, not give life to Mountain Dew machines.

Now where there will be a divide on GI JOE is here. The fans that want a “hardcore badass GI JOE, where SNAKE EYES slips out of a shadow to slit a character’s throat as he goes all DEADPOOL-mime style through hordes of Cobra ‘red shirts’ – well, that ain’t happening here.

This film attempts to tightrope walk between that and something that is accessible to kids – and if you have a kid around the age of 9, he’ll come out of this movie like a raving lunatic. There are so many cool things that any boy that has ever turned a cardboard box into a Mach 8 vehicle or an underground drilling assault vehicle, or some permutation of those badass Drop vehicles from ALIENS… it is here. The energy weapons and what they do is crazy cool. The SHARKS (underwater vehicles) are also crazy cool. There’s a lot of that sort of thing in the film. This is the antidote for people going through gadget needs after the relaunch of JAMES BOND. Here, there’s so much coolness – that if you’re a tech-fetishist – you’re likely to smile really big.

They do delve into the whole SNAKE EYES and STORM SHADOW origin – via their childhoods training to be the men they become. Watching those kids beat the tar out of each other was pretty damn awesome – and had the least obvious CG – and just looked cool!

I’m not a particular fan of Joseph Gordon-Levitt here – mainly due to how Snidely Whiplash he is in the final act, but I do like Christopher Eccleston, and yes – he gets what you want to him to look like, but not till the very end.

There’s tons of cameos here. Lots of former Sommers performers. The only one really missing was Rachel Weisz. Dennis Quaid is a grit and smile General Hawk. Arnold Vosloo as the awesome Zartan is used sparingly, but I’m betting he plays more in the future of this series.

You know that Paris, accelerator suit stuff you’ve seen in trailers? Well, you’ve seen Slow Motion stuff. When the Accelerator suits are going in real time… oh my god, they’re so crazy fun. The way stuff goes boom, the wanton destruction, the cars that go flying… It really makes you want one. The motion is almost impossible not to giggle at – and by the end of the destructive run – I was laughing like a kid. It was so fun.

It was very much just a chase scene, but unlike any that I’ve seen. It was just crazy to watch. I can’t imagine how much loss of life is going on in this chase. All I know is it was so bad, that France has banned the JOES involved from setting foot on French soil. But Man, what a way to get banned, that’d be so much fun.

This isn’t an exact translation, but there feels like more of the spirit at play, than there was in the TRANSFORMERS movies. GI JOE doesn’t take itself deathly seriously. These guys are gung ho for stopping the bad guys, the bad guys want to blow shit up and kill people – and they do it in crazy future tech ways.

Though the scariest thing that I’ve ever seen is the concept of Mr Dark as U.S. President! Really? They elected Peron as President of the United States? Jesus that’s scary.

I was really stunned watching the film. If you’re not at least feeling this movie working after the first action sequence – there’s probably little hope for you, but to me – getting to tour JOE HQ, getting to try out new JOE tech, a crazy awesome trial run in Paris that goes huge big, then Pre-Cobra Command assault. The last act follows action in multiple locales, but while it does require that you pay attention, I really enjoyed it.

But ya know what? It IS a G.I. JOE movie and it was pretty damn cool! What makes it cool is that these are still men and women operating amazing technology that WE created ( moderately fictitiously) and that isn’t GIVEN by Aliens, Future Beings, etc. That’s what makes it cool, that and the notion that we work with a Global coalition of cool folks that are capable of crazy awesome with this stuff.

That was the dream of the G.I.JOE relaunch. Now that a lot of “HISTORY” is out of the way – hopefully the films will be unencumbered by explaining the history and we can just have JOES and COBRAS beating the boogery snot out of one another.

Of the BIG live action SUMMER films – this is one that you should have quite a bit of fun with. But now I’m really curious how hardcore JOE geeks react – along with noobs. I do know that my Commie Liberal sister (if you think I’m liberal, you really have no idea how conservative I am by comparison) – she went in wanting to hate it as Militaristic Propaganda to program our youth to “Go JOE” – but instead she came out loving how science fiction it was. How it really departs from the here and now. This is a pretty wild ride through a kinda hopeful not too distant future. More science fiction than military or war. Here's hoping we get to see S.H.I.E.L.D. vs A.I.M.!!!

What's he talking about? Channing Tatum wasn't in that.

EDIT: Ah, he meant Stop-Loss, I guess.

The reviews might convince me to see this.

I would think people (read non reviewers) seeing this are going for the action sequences & not character development (no snark).

I didn't like the Snake Eyes costume that much. Sort of reminded me of the Power Rangers for some reason. Maybe it was the lips. Was also expecting better fight scenes. But it was a decent August flick. Not the shit bag I expected it to be.

And now I know why Puffy was banging Sienna Miller.

Props to Mr. Eko and Marlon Wayans....

Certainly not w/o its faults tho

The Good:

Cobra Commander - JGL single-handedly saved this movie
Destro - Chris Eccleston was great w/o the mask
Storm Shadow - Besides some corny lines he was a bad ass
Snake Eyes - Glad they kept him a silent assassin Lose the lips tho
Heavy Duty - Bruh man was holdin it down
Breaker - Saïd Taghmaoui gives Ripcord a run for his $ w/ the comedy

The Bad:

General Hawk - I'm sorry but Dennis Quaid is & has been corny as fuck
Duke - Tatum was kinda soft but he's sorta written that way sooo...
Zartan - Didnt get enough screen time but should beast in the sequel
Baroness - She fine but her character got some plot holes
The uncredited cameo - Wont spoil it but Frank will probably love it.

The Ugly:

The script. Plot holes galore & too many flashbacks. I don't mind a little bit of Velveeta here & there to take me back to my childhood but at times there's an overload. I mean the Ripcord courting Scarlet is cool until they're damn near droolin over each other. And Duke shouldn't be some sucker for love simp over the Baroness either.

I wish they would've focused more on Cobra Commander & Destro because the scenes between those two were great. Just too few & far between. Same with Zartan. That trio has great potential for the sequel.

Not sure what the budget was but it looked like the effects got better along the way. Some of the shit at the beginging was laughable but by the end there were at least a few scenes that were very well done & unexpectedly dark as fuck.

All in all not too shabby set up for what could be a pretty decent franchise. I certainly hope they add a few more of my favorite characters from the past (especially Bazooka) Kinda surprised that a few of the regulars didn't show up in this one but maybe I missed them. There certainly were a lot of opportunities to squeeze them in during the artic/underwater scenes. They could've even had Wild Bill flying 1 of the 'copters at the begining. But oh well. I still enjoyed it

Transformers 1 is much more interesting/compelling than this terrible terrible movie. The acting and everything about this movie sucked except for the cgi which itself got boring after a while, and what a terrible script. I honestly stopped watching half way through.

on the Saber duel in Phantom Menace. This time Ray Park (Snake Eyes, Darth Maul) played the good guy. Both fights took place in generator rooms with near bottom-less pits and notice how Storm Shadow put both his swords together to emulate Darth Maul's dual lightsaber.

http://thepasswordisswordfish.wordpress.com/2009/08/08/gi-joe-the-rise-of-cobra-fun-is-more-than-half-the-battle/

The gist:
- the action is fun... some shitty special effects, but the general sense of "we're having a good time" makes up for it
- the actors all chew into their parts. Some make it work better than others, but overall, I didn't think anyone was bad at all.
- Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. I loved everything about both of these characters.
- the villains-- ALL OF THEM-- hammed it up appropriately.
- not one, not two, but THREE Mummy actors return here. I laughed when all three appeared. The third and final appearance is tricky, but in a key role, and if you recognize him, you'll get a good chuckle in (I'd LOVE to see this character in the sequel in an expanded role).

Overall, good fun B flick. I'd love to see it do well and get a sequel.

I mean the movie focused on 8 GI Joes, wasn't there about 20-30 of them, then the rest of them being Yeoman Johnsons? How can you be the best of the best if you got a lot of Yeoman Johnsons running around?

but they were pretty far exceeded by this film.

they did a great job using the flashbacks to fill in plot gaps and push the narrative without a whole lot of dialogue.

the action was very good. (the cgi wasn't too too cgi-ish).

there was a nice little homage to star wars in it. the editing between two simultaneous fight scenes (later in the movie, no spoiler-o) was very very clever.

the mech suit chase scene was kinda comical, but interesting.

the car chase was pretty badass in terms of the amt of destruction.

i really liked it.

peace & blessings,

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Full of sound and fury,
signifying explosions

Release Date: 2009

Ebert Rating: *½

/ / / Aug 7, 2009

by Roger Ebert

"G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" is a 118-minute animated film with sequences involving the faces and other body parts of human beings. It is sure to be enjoyed by those whose movie appreciation is defined by the ability to discern that moving pictures and sound are being employed to depict violence. Nevertheless, it is better than "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

The film is inspired by Hasbro's famous line of plastic action figures. The heroes are no longer exclusively Americans, but a multi-national elite strike force from many nations, which provides Paramount the opportunity to give top billing to an actor named Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. And to think there was a time when Maurice Micklewhite was not considered a good name for a star. At last Hollywood allows actors to possess their real names.

The Joes, as they are called, are needed to counter a secret nano-tech weapon which is a green liquid that eats up people and buildings and stuff. This weapon has been invented by the evil disfigured scientist named McCullen (Christopher Eccleston), who steals it back from the people he sold it to, and plans to use it to conquer the world. Why is McCullen so pissed off? His Scottish clan was insulted centuries ago. Those Scots.

His conquest plans are not sophisticated. He launches four nano-missiles at world capitols. Two of them are Moscow and Washington. The third one is destroyed, and if I'm not mistaken the fourth one is forgotten by the plot and is still up there somewhere. But that's the kind of detail I tend to get wrong, because that's more fun that getting it right.

How fast are these missiles? They rocket into space and zoom down to earth. A Joe named Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) commandeers the enemy's rocket airplane and, even though he's never seen it before, flies it so well that he catches up to the Moscow missile and destroys it, and then he turns around and flies halfway around the globe to chase up with the missile headed for Washington. He uses verbal commands to fire his air-to-air weapons, after a fellow Joe named Scarlett (Rachel Nichols) intuits that McCullen would have programmed his plane to respond to Celtic, which, luckily, she happens to speak.

These plot details are not developed at great depth, because the movie is preoccupied with providing incomprehensible wall-to-wall computer-generated special effects. I should have been carrying a little clicker to keep count, but I believe that director Stephen Sommers has more explosions in his movie than Michael Bay had in "Transformers 2" only last month. World records don't last long these days.

What is Cobra? What nationality are its leaders, other than Scottish? What will it gain by destroying world capitols? Reader, I do not know. Even the U.S. President (Jonathan Pryce) asks incredulously, "Don't they have any demands?" His role is otherwise limited to being briefed about the Joes.

Cobra has a woman named the Baroness (Sienna Miller) to match Scarlett of the Joes. These women are interesting. They have leather fetishwear and are seductively made up, but are otherwise honorary boys, because us Joe fans don't like to watch a lot of spit-swapping. But because us fans liked the two jive-talkin' robots in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," "G. I. Joe" gives us Ripcord (Marlon Wayans), who is comic relief, says black stuff, and can't control his high-tech armored suit, so he runs into things. We guess he's a contrast to the calm, macho heroism of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

The two teams also each have a skilled Ninja fighter from Japan. Why is this, you might ask? Because Japan is a huge market for CGI animation and videogames, that's why. It also has a sequence set in the Egyptian desert, although there are no shots of dead robots or topless pyramids. And Cobra headquarters are buried within the miles-deep ice of Arctic. You think construction costs are high here. At one point the ice cap is exploded real good so it will sink and crush the G. I. Joe's submarine. We thought ice floated in water but, no, you can see big falling ice chunks real good here. It must be only in your Coke that it floats.

There is never any clear sense in the action of where anything is in relation to anything else. You get more of a binary action strategy. You see something, it fires. You see something else, it gets hit. Using the power of logic, you deduce that the first thing was aiming at the second thing.

Yet I say this movie is certainly better than "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." How so? Admittedly, it doesn't have as much cleavage. But the high-tech hardware is more fun to look at than the transforming robots, the plot is as preposterous, and although the noise is just as loud, it's more the deep bass rumbles of explosions than the ear-piercing bang of steel robots pounding on each other.

I mentioned the lack of pyramids. We do, however, see the Eiffel Tower as it is eaten up by nano technology and topples over onto the Place la Condorde. Missiles also strike Mount Rushmore. No, wait! That was during one of the Coming Attractions!

All in all...it was one big fuckin GI Joe episode...and I'd bet it's pretty much similar to the first episode overall of the first one before that new Cobra commander showed up.

I wasn't into G.I. Joes when I was younger.

Anyways, overall I enjoyed it, won't watch it again, unless it's the chase scene through Paris. As for Marlon, he did O.K. goofy, but O.K.

We can't get Spirit feeding his falcon? Or Shipwreck getting drunk at a bar? Maybe I missed some Joe cameos. Where was Roadblock, Quick Kick, Lady Jaye, Gung-Ho, Dial-Tone, Flynt, Jinx, Beachhead?

Zartan was not used enough - and I would love the Dreadnocks to show up next movie. Baroness was a little weak to me. She can't become a 'good guy.'

Would have been nice to see Deep Six or something during the underwater scenes.

I also want more Dr. Mindbender. Storm Shadow vs Snake Eyes was classic and definitely made the movie.

But overall - I did not hate it and I even got a little sentimental when the Joes saved the day again.

As mentioned above, it would have been nice to see cameos in certain scenes.

Wild Bill in the helicopter.
Deep Six in the water scene.
Iceberg or Snow Job in the arctic.

Not a big deal I suppose.
The movie was still fun and entertaining.

After giving it more thought I'm assuming the Joe team at this point only contains who we saw. That still doesn't give them a pass for not including at least the characters who got figures in the Rise of Cobra line. (Shipwreck and Torpedo are really great figures, damn shame they didn't make it into the movie.) They really did have an opportunity though to throw a number of classic Joes into scenes, especially while in The Pit. It also would have been cool to see some new recruits show up at the end. It also would have been cool to see Destro and Cobra Commander escape but Sommers and crew had other ideas.

First off all the folk stating this movie was going to be an abomination they were wrong. I think what happened here is we went to go see a movie with no expectation and got a nice surprise. It wasnt perfect and it wasnt the greatest movie or anything like that far from it. But this shit was better then Wolverine and Transformers and the expectations for those movies were 10x more.

Reviews (spoilers)

- Cobra Commander
The dude they had playing him did a fantastic job. I was not expecting him to be the little brother. Big up to Dr Mindbender who showed up

- Destro
I was heated that he wasnt black. But you know what scottish dude did his thing. The way they showed how he gets his mask in the end was well done.

- Baroness
eh ok here is where I had some problems. The actress just wasnt good. I didn't like her at all. They could of gotten a better actress for this part. Plus she didnt have the accent. You can't fucking have Baroness and she doesn't have that accent.

Everything else was satisfactory. The special effects can only get better at this point, they were pretty mundane.

The turbo suit thing wasnt that bad. I mean they had some crazy technology on the GI Joe show so *shrug*

Stormshadow and Snake Eyes were perfect. I dare you to say otherwise

I wish they gave the role to someone who would bring "honor" to the role, but it's Hollywood. As I watched I wished that G.I. Joe and Transformers traded actors so that Duhamel and Tyrese were Duke and Ripcord.

Four huge action scenes:
- Army convoy and G.I. Joe vs. pre-Cobra
- G.I. Joe vs. pre-Cobra in the Pit
- G.I. Joe vs. pre-Cobra in Paris
- G.I. Joe vs. pre-Cobra at the North Pole

Almost all types of fighting and weapons:
- Firearms
- Swords/blades/throwing stars
- Martial arts
- Bombs/missiles
- Lasers (People clown the cartoon for using them instead of guns, but from this movie I understand why they're a weapon of choice)

Plots and subplots:
- G.I. Joe vs. pre-Cobra (main plot)
- Duke and Baroness
- Ripcord and Scarlett
- Snake Eyes vs. Storm Shadow
- Duke, Rex, and Ripcord's story

Yeah, I don't think I got bored or looked at my watch for its 2-hour running time. Still, what held it back the most were the questionable CGI at points (especially in Egypt with the plane), the silly music choices at points, Baroness' final turn (more reveal into she and Duke's relationship may've made it more convincing), and Channing Tatum's acting. Tatum was fine with the action and normal conversation, but when it came to being angry (Rex's reveal at the end) or affectionate (Duke's marriage proposal), he didn't seem convincing, so that's something to work on for the next picture.

I'm actually a bit surprised that they managed to juggle all of those plots and action scenes to moderate success (7/10 for me). I didn't expect Storm Shadow to have the best performance; I don't doubt that he'll be back in the sequel somehow.

Me too. It seems like that sequence had the most effort put into it, with the Eiffel Tower falling apart and the glass shattering on the roof. I forget, the facial deconstructions/transformations were well-done too (and a bit gruesome, didn't expect that).

i continue to be amazed at what you guys pass for a 'good movie'
it seems that if you dont yawn throughout a movie and theres enough action and explosions and guns and some eyecandy then it equals a good movie

its labeled a 'fun' movie. people keep saying that up here and said it in defense of those two transformer turds too.. it may not have the best story but at least its a fun movie!

foh

so an action film doesnt need to have a good plot?
this shit had plotholes all over
destro makes a weapon to sell it to then steal it back... to have gi joe come chase him to stop him from blowing up the eifel which he still does.. smh i wont even get further in

gi joe resolute >>>> this

i know ppl will defend it saying its based on toys and the cartoon was of the same level, but how come shit like resolute gets made then?

how come they can get a fucking animated film right over and over (see superman, batman, justice league, xmen etc etc) and the feature films will always get fucked up under the defense that it wouldnt work as a live action thing

>i hated this movie

Hate is a strong word, deluge. You don't even know this movie. Have you walked a mile in its combat boots? Have you ever stopped to think "Hey. Like, whoa."

Really? Have you?

>i continue to be amazed at what you guys pass for a 'good

The first Transformer movie was better than this one and I for one love it. And if loving turds like that is wrong then I guess I'm just a big old scat lovin German sheiza-porn video that's wants to stay wrong.

>
>foh
>
>so an action film doesnt need to have a good plot?

Honestly...not all of the time, no.

This is a summer popcorn mover based off a jingoistic 40's soldier doll that got recycled into a jingoistic 80's kiddie toy that was made for one reason and one reason only: REVENUE STREAMS. The movie was made so toys and cartoons can be made from it, so Happy Meals and Mega Mooby Meals can include the Shark™ and Heavy Duty™ with his operable gatling-gun arms. Fer the love of fuck, the song over the closing credits was BEP's "Boom Boom Pow"!!! How do you say "cross-marketing" in Swedenland?

Ronin had zero plot and that's like my favorite action movie ever. Munich had an spellbinding script, great plot, fantastic action and as much as I love the film, I STILL like Ronin better.

>this shit had plotholes all over

Yes. yes it did. Big fucking ones.

>gi joe resolute >>>> this

I don't know what that is. But if you're going to make the argument that somehow that's a "purer" GI Joe movie or that it is better because of no plot holes then you're still missing the point.

I guess I can only say that its really great when an action movie has a great plot, great acting, as well as great action. In a word, I'd say that'd be really great. HOWMEVER...GIJoe needed only one of those things to be "good" and "fun" and that's all it wanted to be. I don't mind paying $16.50 for me and my 9 year old nephew to have good, not great, fun at the theater with this.

It's time for you to know that even if you hate the movie...th emovie will still love you. And knowing is half the love battle.

Everyone was so stiff, it felt like a big budget syndicated TV show. The whole connection between Baroness, Duke, and Cobra Commander was lame and the reveal "Call me Commander" was awful.

I get that it was a dumb kid's flick but even still it just wasn't much fun. The good to groan ratio on the one liners was lousy. It was definitely worse than Transformer, less entertaining that Fast and Furious, and arguably is Sommers' worst film.

On the bright side, it didn't take itself as seriously as Terminator: Salvation did.

BUT....

I'm sorry, but Sienna Miller and Channing Tatum *CAN NOT ACT*. I'm sorry but Baroness and GI Joe had chemistry to *BURN*...

The chemistry between them two was nonexistent and Sienna Miller's few emotional moments...fail.

but everyone else was good...I grew to like Marlon Wayans as Destro; Rachel Nichols (aka the newbie agent on the last season of ALIAS) was surprisingly good as Scarlett...and Joseph Gordon Levitt KILLED it as Rex/Cobra...

good stuff.

He's really not that great of an actor. Sienna Miller's hotness distracted me from her actual acting, so I can't actaully remember how well she did in the movie.

I really liked the movie, though. I thought it was going to suck, but it really surprised me. Marlon Wayans was a lot better than I thought he'd be too.

it was a fun action movie and I really only have three complaints.

1. The CGI was really bad at certain points. The ones that most stood out to me was Scarlett riding the motocycle in Paris and the jet scene when they are first going back to The Pit.

2. Channing Tatum as Duke. He had ZERO emotion, I mean he was borderline terrible. I would have rather seen someone like Alexander Skarsgard or dude who played the Human Torch in FF play Duke that Tatum. I mean really he was boring and doesn't do subtle humor well at all.

3. It was obvious from the beginning that Rex was Cobra Commander. After seeing the flashback to Duke proposing to Baroness and Rex in that scene you just knew he was going to "die" but actually was the evil doctor.

WHO the fuck cast Channing Tatum as Duke...he was AWFUL...

a) he's far too fresh faced...he looked like he just came from a kegger...not an experienced soldier

b) I guess in trying to capture Duke's seriousness, he bungled his acting...dude was WOODEN...whoever mention Keanu Reeves was on point...

I wouldn't be shocked if they found some way to bring Storm Shadow back for the sequel.

enjoyed the movie but a few things:

tatum DID suck as duke. he almost made keanu look nuanced.

his "i grew up around black people" persona was uber wack to me. duke was apple pie as they came. i agree with duhamel playing that role, or shit, even paul walker. duke wasn't "cool" he was fucking duke, a soldier. anyhow his acting was lame.

not sure if i like the baroness storyline. she's too good a character to make good so fast or to keep locked up. hopefully with that shit still implanted she'll break out and catch wreck but duke will pussy out when he has to confront her.

storm shadow definitely aint dead. he might have to wear the mask from now on from disfigurement but he aint' done. no one else can properly battle snake eyes but him, and vice versa.

other than that, no complaints. but can we get some lady J and a sgt slaughter who fights and fucks people up?
