For the record, I like the film but it is NOT better than Goodfellas.
But in real life, a savvy undercover agent who knows that only two people can restore his identity wouldn't act like that.
Personally, if I was in that situation, and one of the two people who can restore my life gets killed, I'm runnin' up on the second dude immediately like "yo, fix this shit."
At that point, Costello was dead, he had the evidence in his hand about who the mole was, and he was bonin' the mole's woman.
In real life, he contacts Dignam, plays him the tapes, they apprehend the mole and dude takes his woman and gets his life back.
That's a win-win-win situation.
However, in movie world, it's a boring ending and after all, how many characters in movies do the real life sensible thing?
His plan at the end was half-cocked to say the least, but I still like the movie overall. But the end was "eh"
but it is what it is. sometimes I just like to watch a movie and veg out and not think to hard, and sometimes even with an "eh" ending, you can admire a movie for all the things it did right nonetheless (see: Collateral) ______________________________________________________________________________
