you be engineering some fabulous plea coppage.

Imean....wooow.

Dogma wasn't fucking funny.

It was an unfunny motion picture.

That being the case, the nigga responsible for the film gets the blame. If you are the sole artistic brains behind a bad, unfunny movie, its on you.

Whether or not someone is funny is contingent upon their WORK, not their potential or how funny the might be if x or y didn't happen.

Kevin smith's work is unfunny. That's all.I have to go on when determining if he is funny or not.

I don't count Jersey Girl cause it had none of the same characters.

If you wanna keep bringing up Dogma, fine. But the fact remains that Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy are all (if nothing else) funny films. Actually no - that's not fact. That's my opinion. And also, An Evening with Kevin Smith >>>>>>>>>>> Anything the Wayans Bros have EVER done or will ever do. Period.

A funny person and a funny script doesn't necessarily mean the movie is going to be funny.
But you've demonstrated a thousand times on this board that you don't know shit about movies.
Not to mention the idiocy of calling me a Kevin Smith plea copper mere right after a said that I hated his latest movie.
Just another stupid, wrong o_e post.

Yep.

Okay boards are teeming with hipster niggas hell bent on proving
how "eclectic," and "different" they are. Also, to niggas like this, compliments
from white people mean much more than compliments from black people.

Its corny.

This nigga bignick made a post once about how hilarious he
thought the TRAILER to 'Bewitched' was.

That trailer, and movie, was pure garbation.

Thas the type of nigga he is.

I don't hate him, but les call a spade a spade, and shit.

As I've already said, Dogma is a great script. Which is what talented writers do.

5. "Kevin Smith article swipe"
In response to Reply # 0

from the L.A. Times:

>THE DIRECTOR'S LIFE

Back to mining the store

Kevin Smith has come full circle, picking up where 'Clerks' left off 12 years ago. Will it brand him a boy wonder also-ran or a comeback king?

By Mark Olsen
Special to The Times

July 16, 2006

THE opening credits of "Clerks II" feature a travelogue montage of suburbia, as a song by Talking Heads gently croons, "Years ago I was an angry young man." The same might be said of writer and director Kevin Smith. Since bursting onto the scene 12 years ago with the first "Clerks" — a rowdy, melancholy-laced comedy about dead-end jobs financed largely on credit cards — and over the course of six more features, Smith has become a curiously divisive figure, somehow symbolizing tremendous success and total failure.

His notoriously dedicated fan base, feverishly reciting quotes and rabidly buying up his merchandise, sees him as a regular guy made good. Critics, by and large, have come to see him as self-satisfied and lazy. Coming off the critical and commercial implosion of his previous film, "Jersey Girl," which was a conscious attempt at making a more conventional mainstream movie, Smith finds himself back where he started. Though it may be easy to dismiss the dour reception of "Jersey Girl" as simply a part of the backlash against the tabloid romance of its stars, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, there is certainly more to it than that, as the film exposed cracks in the foundation of Smith's work.

As if to encapsulate the rather uncertain position Smith now occupies in the Hollywood landscape, HBO's insider comedy "Entourage" recently dropped Smith's name (alongside Michael Bay, no less) as shorthand for sloppy, soulless filmmaking. By reviving the characters from his first feature in "Clerks II," Smith now takes stock of his emotional life in his mid-30s in the same way "Clerks" surveyed his 20s. A freewheeling farce on lack of direction, stillborn ambitions and a life of mindless drudgery has given way to a rueful examination of unfulfilled promises, dashed dreams and the resigned acceptance of one's lot in life.

Though he often projects a demeanor of laid-back affability, there is also a free-floating air of anxiety and discontentment that hovers near Smith as well. He has an astounding recollection of his own bad reviews — hello, Eleanor Ringel Gillespie of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution — and exhibits an uncanny knack for diffusing criticism by preemptively turning it into a joke. Over the course of two encounters in the span of a few days, he wore similar-looking athletic jerseys with slogans emblazoned across the back — one read "Hack" and the other "Sell Out."

The first "Clerks" came about during that time just before the Internet (yes, such a time existed), the era of grunge and "Slacker," when many of those upon whom the Gen-X label was being imposed found themselves grappling with a heightened awareness of the damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't choices that ambition brings, the inescapable compromises of trying to achieve success on one's own terms. That ambivalence remains very much at the core of Smith's films, as the overarching structures of his work are derived from an essential tension between the rowdy, fan-pleasing trash talk and a searching, yearning need for a deeper emotional resonance. The results are often something like an existential shrug.

"At the end of the day I can only do what I can do," he says. "You read a lot of reviews where people say, 'You should stretch. He should learn to stretch as a filmmaker.' After a dozen years now, don't they get it?

"This is what I do, this is the storyteller I am. Do I let myself off the hook by saying, 'I'm just not that talented?' Probably. But also I think it's important to know your limitations. I've kind of embraced mine. And I've had seven films' worth of practice to figure that out."

As "Clerks II" begins, the convenience store where Dante (Brian O'Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson) continued to work has burned to the ground. Both in their mid-30s, they soon find themselves working at one of the few jobs worse than the one they had, at a fast-food restaurant named Mooby's. Dante is planning to move to Florida soon with his fiancée (played by Smith's real-life wife, Jennifer Schwalbach), where her parents will give them a house and a carwash to run and they will live a respectable, regular life. But his escalating infatuation with the manager at Mooby's (the film's secret weapon, Rosario Dawson) makes him rethink his plans. (The film also features, as have all his films except "Jersey Girl," Smith himself as the character of Silent Bob, along with his sidekick, Jay, played by Jason Mewes.)

On a personal level, in the years since his debut feature, Smith, who turns 36 in August, has gotten married, become a father, entered his 30s and moved from New Jersey to Los Angeles. It's not difficult to look at his filmography as chapters in an ongoing autobiography. After the rather crushing fate met by "Jersey Girl," Smith had to really take stock of himself, and he found revisiting the characters of Randal and Dante to be just the way to do it.

"Each flick I've done is kind of a snapshot of where I was in my life when I wrote it; 'Clerks II' really speaks to where I am in life at the moment. You don't have to be an analyst to look at the movie and go, 'The Quick Stop means a little more than the Quick Stop, and Florida represents something more than just going to Florida.' That's kind of where I am. There's definitely something bittersweet about arriving at 'Clerks II.' "

Critic Amy Taubin first heard of "Clerks" after its first screening at New York's Independent Feature Film Market, attended by barely a dozen people. She called Smith directly for a tape, and her subsequent articles on the film in the Village Voice were instrumental in bringing it to the attention of festivals and distributors.

Speaking recently about "Clerks II," Taubin suggested, "Dante's desire to get out of the Quick Stop mirrors Kevin's desire not to be making these raunchy comedies, but how not to do that is not clear to him, just as the next step is not clear to Dante."

More than just a filmmaker

ASIDE from his role as writer-director of feature films, Smith has also created a number of sideline endeavors for himself. He makes appearances on the college lecture circuit, has done a series of spots for "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," has written comic books, done various guest spots, co-owns comic book and memorabilia stores in New Jersey and Los Angeles and, perhaps most important, has an extremely active and direct role online in a circle of Internet sites. The websites allow him to interact with a broad swath of fans, sell merchandise and, as with the case of "Clerks II," heavily promote his upcoming releases.

Smith recently co-published the first in a series of graphic novel prequels to Richard Kelly's feature film "Southland Tales," a futuristic fable of the apocalypse starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and The Rock. At a recent signing event, Smith showed just how deep his commitment to and connection with his fans goes. He patiently listened as fans told him about themselves, he posed for pictures, he talked to people's friends on their cellphones, and never hurried a single one. If things are moving toward a niche-oriented, long-tail model of cultural consumption, Smith already has self-created and corralled his piece of the niche.

"Kevin is incredibly savvy when it comes to marketing," Kelly says. "Part of preserving your auteur status, preserving your vision and continuing to make films the way you want to is developing an identity, a fan base and an audience that will always be there for you. I think Kevin has done that, and he's able to make exactly the films he wants to make."

Of course, this can lead to the dispiriting sense of a filmmaker "playing to the base," in the lexicon of contemporary politics, most obviously in Smith's in-joke heavy "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back." For those who "want more" from Smith, feel that he is given to coasting and could easily develop into a more well-rounded and conventionally mature filmmaker and storyteller, his sidebar endeavors on the Web and as an all-round entertainer-entrepreneur could be seen as distractions standing in the way of him developing his true gifts.

"I don't buy that," interjected author John Pierson, a longtime fixture in the independent film community who was involved in the early careers of such diverse filmmakers as Smith, Richard Linklater, Spike Lee and Michael Moore. "He's made seven features in 12 years. Which, if you look at everybody else's track record, their production frequency, he's ahead of David O. Russell or Quentin Tarantino or plenty of other people."

Full of scatological humor, riffs on pop culture and inside jokes, "Clerks II" can be seen on the surface as the bawdy comedy Smith was trying to get away from when he made "Jersey Girl." He insists, however, that if examined more closely, it is just the kind of film many critics wanted from him, one that aims to synthesize the dueling sides of his personality, what he calls "the profane and the profound." Toward the end of the film, Randal makes a confession to Dante of his own fears and insecurities that is as heartbreaking as it is unexpected.

"I think the way it catches you off guard is that this actually is very moving," suggests Taubin. "It is a very big part of Kevin's talent. There's a thing about humor — it can be extremely defensive, it's a way of keeping your cool. And I think he uses humor in this way, and sometimes the veil, the comedy, falls away and you see there's something going on underneath.

"When he doesn't do that, that's when he gets maudlin like in 'Jersey Girl.' He so desperately wanted to do something that wasn't what he thinks of as broad comedy that it's like he forgot how to write. I think in Kevin himself, he realized that what most of his films depend on is a kind of desperately held-onto adolescent humor, that refusal to grow up and be mature. That's what's best about him."

He is, in a strange way, grateful for the failure of "Jersey Girl," even thanking it in the end credits to "Clerks II," as it puts him in the same position he was in after "Mallrats," a period that led to two of his best-regarded films, "Chasing Amy" and "Dogma." To say that Smith seems trapped by his own successes might not be entirely accurate, but it doesn't seem far off, either.

"There's something to be said for failing," he noted dryly. "It's not the failure you feel, it's the failure that people project when something disappoints. You're back to ground zero, where there's no expectations, and that's where I like to be. People like to set the bar high. I like to put the bar on the ground and barely step over it. I like to keep the expectations really low.

"After something like 'Mallrats' or 'Jersey Girl,' the expectations are in the toilet. People are like, 'He's over, he's done.' So it's easier to be, like, 'Ta-da, I'm not.' It's a much more comfortable place to work from. When you have an escalating career, and every time you have to outdo yourself, I couldn't handle that kind of pressure. But having to outdo 'Jersey Girl'? Not very difficult."

Calm down, bitch.

He's not funny.

You're an artsy fartsy film type. Kevin Smith is an artsy fartsy
comedic filmmaker.

You gotta defend you're turf. I understand.

But a part of your latte-drenched soul knows
I have a point.

Just hit the treadmill and keep trying to convince yourself
why 'Clerks 2' was funny. I bet you'll have just as hard a time
with that one as the 'Pulp Fiction' jokes.

The Wayans bros use pennies and turn millions with simple, hard
hitting comedy that isn't made to increase intellectual self esteem.

Do you not realize Kevin Smith writes dick and fart jokes?

Also, the Wayans bros haven't been using "pennies" since I'm Gonna Get You Sucka (and of course, that was a DIFFERENT brother).

http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=littleman.htm = $69 million budget
http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=whitechicks.htm = $37 million budget
http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=scarymovie2.htm = $45 million budget
http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=scarymovie.htm = $19 million budget

All of those except one have had bigger budgets than the biggest budget Kevin Smith has ever had (Jersey Girl with $35 mil). Clerks 2 has a budget of $5 million and will bring in a bigger profit percentage than Little Man, I guarantee you that.

Completely irrelevant.

I never said Kevin Smith used big budgets.

I said the Wayans brothers are hot commodities specifically
because they turn profits on films. I said that solely to give
more explanation as to why I respect the Wayans bros more
than Kevin Smith.

The budget shit is mostly irrelevant. The main reason is that the
Wayans Bros are funnier than Kevin Smith.

Wayans bros on the other hand? Ocassionally brilliant. Not always, but

And their worst film pisses all over 'Dogma'. Talk about a trainwreck.

He tried to do too much, too many gimmicks, too many gimmicky actors.

Not enough actual humor.

From Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back:

Jay: All you motherfuckers are gonna pay. You are the ones who are the ball-lickers. We're gonna fuck your mothers while you watch and cry like little bitches. Once we get to Hollywood and find those Miramax fucks who are making that movie, we're gonna make 'em eat our shit, then shit out our shit, then eat their shit which is made up of our shit that we made 'em eat. Then you're all you motherfucks are next. Love, Jay and Silent Bob.

^^^^Pretensious bullshit. Just show me people getting hit in the balls already.

If you think Kevin Smith films are artsy and are filled with "deep jokes," you've obviously never seen one. Since when are dick and fart jokes considered artsy? Have you ever even seen the original Clerks or Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back or any movie between those? Your whole argument makes you look retarded.

Excuse me,

Any fucking movie with a multi minute exchange about who the
employees were building the Death Star in 'Return of the Jedi', and why one
demolition was more or less moral than the other is fucking artsy than a
muthafucka.

Its not 'English Patient' artsy, but its still artsy in the "I'm so smart, and my
comedy is so different and edgy" sort of way. 'Dogma' is a perfect example.
It was supposed to be a comedic commentary on all this religious stuff....the problem was, it wasn't a commentary on anything because it wasn't funny and fucking sucked.

Kevin Smith = the most overrated muffucka ever next to Tarantino.

just by mentioning Little Man
you were given an automatic L

"turning pennies into millions"
then when you were proved wrong,
tried denying the fact u said anything along those lines
and how was him talking about how Clerks II was made with $5mil
and Little Man was made with $65mil irrelevant???
your whole argument is that the Wayans brothers can turn profit
from small budget films. where are these small budget films?
o, and little man is gonna flop. lets see who wins the box office war...

Umm.

When it came out, 'Scary Movie' had one of the biggest openings in history.

The Wayans Bros be getting mad paper.

That's why they have the green light to do projects like 'Little Man'. It wasn't
one of their best, but their legacy is solidified.

'Scary Movie' had an August opening that was HUUUGGE especially for a comedy.

August ain't never a big month to open movies. That 'Scary Movie' made 40 milly its
first week was RIDICULOUS, and FAR FAR FAR BETTER than anything that Kevin
Smith could hope to put together.

Even better, 'Scary Movie' was funnier than anything Kevin Smith could
ever hope to put forward.

You wanny know why?

Because Kevin Smith isn't funny.

Dante Hicks: Are there any balls down there?
Jay: About the biggest pair you ever seen, dingleberry!

Dante Hicks: You ever notice how all the prices end in nine? Damn, that's eerie.
Randal Graves: Have you ever wondered how much the average jizz-mopper makes per hour?
Dante Hicks: What's a jizz-mopper?
Randal Graves: He's the guy that cleans up the nudie booth after each guy jerks off.
Dante Hicks: Nudie booth?
Randal Graves: Yeah, nudie booth. You've never been in a nudie booth?
Dante Hicks: I guess not.
Randal Graves: Oh, it's great. There's this glass between you and these chicks, and they put on a show for you for like 10 bucks.
Dante Hicks: What kinda show?

Randal Graves: They do the weirdest, craziest shit you like to see chicks do. They insert things into any opening on their body - ANY opening.
Dante Hicks: Could we not talk about this right now?
Randal Graves: The jizz-mopper's job is to clean off the glass after each guy shoots a load. I don't know if you noticed, but cum leaves streaks if you don't clean it right away.
Offended Customer: I will never come to this place again!
Dante Hicks: I'm sorry?
Offended Customer: Using filthy language in front of the customers, you both should be fired!
Dante Hicks: I'm sorry, I guess we got carried away.
Offended Customer: I don't know if sorry could make up for it, you've highly offended me.
Randal Graves: Well if you thinks that's offensive, check this out!

Randal Graves: I think you can see her kidneys!

Dante Hicks: 37! My girlfriend's sucked 37 dicks!
Customer with Diapers: In a row?

Brodie: After all he's done to you, you should still kinda stick it to him.
T.S. Quint: How do you propose I do that?
Brodie: You stinkpalm him.
T.S. Quint: Stinkpalm?
Brodie: You take your hand and stick it in your ass like this. You been walkin' all day and you're nervous, so no doubt you'll be sweaty as hell.
T.S. Quint: You should see yourself right now, a grown man with his hand down his pants.
Brodie: Yeah i probably look like my old man. So you shake hands with the guy, "Hello Mr. Svenning how have you been?"
T.S. Quint: Whats the point?
Brodie: You know how long it takes for that smell to come off? Scrub all you want, it'll stick around for at least two days. How does he explain it to his colleagues and family? They'll think he doesn't know how to wipe his ass properly.
T.S. Quint: Meanwhile you yourself are left with a hand that smells like shit.
Brodie: Small price to pay for the smiting of one's enemies.

Brodie: Brandi is the past my friend. You face forward, or you face the possibility of shock and damage.

Brodie: Tell me, did you ever fart in front of her?
T.S. Quint: No, why do you ask?
Brodie: I never farted in front of Renee. Last week, I let one slip and today she dumps me.
T.S. Quint: Renee's not the shallow type. You're not insinuating...
Brodie: She was going down on me at the time.
T.S. Quint:
Brodie: What can I say, I was feeling relaxed, when I feel relaxed I squirt.
T.S. Quint: If all she did was dump you, you got off light.

Banky Edwards: Archie is *not* fucking Mr. Weatherbee!

Banky Edwards: And then, Black Beauty couldn't take it any more and he finally did some of his own mounting.

Bartleby: You know, maybe you're wrong about this slaughter thing. How can you even be sure what incurs the Lord's wrath these days? Times change. I remember when eating meat on a Friday was supposed to be a Hell-worthy trespass.
Loki: The major sins never change. Besides, you know, I can spot a commandment-breaker from, like, a mile away. So, bet on it.
Bartleby: This from the guy who still owes me 10 bucks over that bet about what was gonna be the bigger movie - "E. T. " or "Krush Groove".
Loki: You know, fuck you, man, 'cause time's gonna tell on that one.

Loki: What, are you insinuating that I don't have what it takes anymore?
Bartleby: Insinuating, no. Flat-out telling you.

Bethany: Were they sent to Hell?
Metatron: Worse. Wisconsin. For the entire span of human history.

Jay: I am the master of the C.L.I.T. Remember this fucking face. Whenever you see C.L.I.T., you'll see this fucking face. I make that shit work. It does whatever the fuck I tell it to. No one rules the C.L.I.T like me. Not this little fuck

Jay: , none of you little fucks out there. I AM THE C.L.I.T. COMMANDER! Remember that, commander of all C.L.I.T.s! When it comes down to business, this is what I do. I pinch it like this. OOH you little fuck. Then I rub my nose with it.

Siegel's a dipshit, but I'm not completely convinced of Smith's movie-making abilities. I'll side with him over Siegel every day and three times on Sunday.

"I don't think so. I don't want to disrespect anyone, but I don't want to see any movie where they are spitting on food and putting flies on food. That makes me want to go to a fast-food joint and (mess) somebody up. I think they could have something smoother to come up with, like macking down the co-workers, or freaking at work or something. Nope. Not interested. I don't want to see a movie like that. I think overweight people should go see it though. It will make them not want to eat fast food."

it is slow in parts, but I really enjoyed the movie. When Jack Valenti was running the MPAA this movie would have recieved an NC-17 for sure. If you remember that is what the first one got on the stength of it's language.

Not terrible. Good for a 4th place finish behind Pirates, Monster House, and Lady in the Water. Still beat out My Super Ex Girlfriend and Little Man. It'll probably finish with $10-$12 mil for the weekend which certainly isn't bad considering the movies it opened against and the budget was $5 mil.

I mean the biggest opening a Smith film has ever had was $11 million. I remember when Mallrats was supposed to be a "smart Porkys" and it bombed terribly. I think I might have been the only person who saw it in the theater (at the ripe ole age of 13).

It's gonna be a big money maker in terms of profit, but they HAD to have known it wasn't gonna get bigger than $50 mil.

(this is in response to a fanboy guessing that the movie would make $100m for the weekend)

>Whoa, whoa, whoa... Let's reign in those expectations, folks.

We'd be lucky to have a total cumulative gross of $30mil. $50mil would be travel well-beyond anyone's dreams (on this side of the 'net, at least).

Our screen count (for a summer movie) isn't very high (we'll max out around 2000) and what we're spending on marketing - when compared to the other summer flicks - is laughable (for example, we've probably spent a quarter of what even "Little Man" has spent on opening their flick (commercials and whatnot) - and they haven't spent even half of what something like "Pirates" or "Superman" has spent on marketing.

We didn't go nuts with our budget ($5mil) so we're not going nuts with our marketing costs. In the end, that will make us a very profitable film - even if we only reach $20mil total theatrical gross.

Me? I'm hoping for a $5mil opening. If we do closer to a $10mil opening weekend, I'll be ecstatic.

Funny movie. Jeff Anderson seemed quite at home in playing the role of Randal again after 11 years... his performance, for the most part, was off-the-meters funny. Smith gave him a lot of great jokes. The the LOTR riff was about the funniest thing I've seen all year. And the third act donkey show sequence was well put together very well, from the writing to the acting to the editing, like someone had been studying their Blake Edwards farces...

And we know, "Blake Edwards >>>>>>> Kevin Smith." Thanks.

But, I have to admit, I thought some of it was a bit much. Maybe I'm becoming more of a prude in my old age, but I thought a lot of the language was a bit excessive.

And there was that one joke... the P.M. joke... yeah.... that one quickly wore out its welcome... once Wanda Sykes and Earthquake - those Asiatic race traitors - left Mooby's, that should have been the end of that joke, imo... we get it, Randal's ignorant, keep it moving...

And I wish he would have cast someone hotter than his wife to play Dante's rich bitch fiancee... if you had a choice between her and Rosario Dawson, for God's sake, come on...

And let me make this perfectly clear for the haters: those criticisms ARE NOT "proof that Kevin Smith is a terrible/unfunny writer." Kevin Smith is a damn funny writer, fuck what you heard... people may get frustrated with the fact that all he does is blue humor, but this movie seems to be him saying that that's what he's good at, so he's going to stick with it... and I agree, save the couple of reservations I had with some of the language, as well as that P.M. joke...

I agreed with a review that said that Rosario Dawson was the movie's "secret weapon," though you'd figure if she's been working at a fast food joint for two years she'd probably get A LITTLE THICKER from being around all that food... just saying... but I really can't complain too much after her seeing her bounce around on the rooftop... sweet Jesus, she's incredibly breast-- er, BLESSED...

Smith and Trevor Fehlman (who played Elias) showed up after the screening for a Q & A... pretty standard questions from the audience... one guy did ask for a "three hour loop" of Rosario dancing on the roof... Kevin said that was a great idea and he'd look into it... he also told the story of how Harvey Weinstein had two notes for him, one of which was to visually show the "Pussy Troll," which got a huge laugh...

With Kevin Smith and Trevor Fehlman:

- Smith said that of the films he's done, this is his favorite because it speaks to where he is in his life. He said Chasing Amy used to be his favorite, because he used to be Holden, but since he isn't that guy anymore the film doesn't speak to him in the same way.

- Smith said the casting of Rosario Dawson was due to a "suggestion" by Harvey Weinstein, noting that "when they give you $5 million, part of the deal is you listen to their suggestions and notes." He said Harvey gave him a list of 6 female actresses, and of the 6 he figured Rosario would be the last one to say yes, because "her career is on the upswing, no way she'd come work with us losers." But Smith said he decided to send her the script anyway and she responded to the material.

- Smith said his favorite shoot was Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, "because there were new people constantly popping in and out, so we were always working with fresh faces, new people... that's always fun."

- Smith launched into the aforementioned "Harvey Weinstein said I should show the "Pussy Troll" story. Trevor added that at first he was thrilled when he heard that Harvey was digging his performance, but then had second thoughts after hearing about the "Pussy Troll," saying that he was doubting whether or not he had fucked up the monologue. Smith assured him that he hadn't, and noted that his acting in the scene was perfect, and also noted that he countered Harvey's note by telling him that showing the "Pussy Troll" would ruin the spirit/point of the scene.

- Smith said his favorite shot of the movie is of when the donkey person spits into their hand and misses. He said that he believes that shot to be his legacy, and when he dies and the Oscars does that montage “of motherfuckers who died that year… I don’t want them to show my face, I want them to show *that* shot…”

- When asked whether he was surprised the movie got an R rating on its first pass through the MPAA, he said he was, but then noted that his producer Scott Mosier said the movie probably sailed through because the movie doesn't end on the hardcore donkey stuff, but on a sweeter note, so that may have been why. Smith then said, based on his previous battles with them, "but they also could have been like, 'This dude's such a big baby, fuck it, give him the R.'"

- When asked about Superman Returns, Kevin said he loved the fact that Bryan Singer got $250 million to make his vision of Superman, without having Warner Bros. meddle by telling him to "you know, put in a fucking goat or something, cause the kids like goats"... having said that, he wished that Singer would have had Superman "crush a building or something," instead of using the Superman-as-Jesus metaphor for the entire movie: "I mean, come on, when Lex Luthor is doing more fighting than Superman..." He also joked that he was at least hoping that Superman would be gay, since Singer's great X-Men movies were clearly gay parables: "(in Lois Lane voice) I love you, Superman" "(in Superman voice) Fuck you, Lois, come here, Jimmy..."

- When asked when he's going to do his own superhero movie, Kevin said, "That will never happen."

I really loved this film, its probally by far my favorite Kevin Smith film, this movie struck a special cord with me, more than any other of Kevin Smith's film. At this point in time I find myself exactly in the same perdiciment: Im working the same type of job ive been working for the past 7-8 years with no end in sight, my brother seems to be moving in the exact opposite direction: he graduated college, working in his career field, and getting engaged soon. With me feeling left behind. In the first film i found myself more in line with Dante, now with Clerks II its a complete 180° i see myself more in Randall's situation.

but anyone who has read BigNick's book can easily tell what he hated about this film. Sorry, Nick....this was an enjoyable film, tho.

Randall's reaction to that made that joke even funnier.

I loved the movie. AI agree that it showed a noce amount of heart, and Anderson was excellent as Randall. I agree wholeheartedly that the PM scene was just too much. I understand what Smith was trying to do there, but it came off as forced and unfunny, trying to schock for shock's sake.

But other than that scene, I just loved it.

"We so do" - Jay...fuckin awesome timing.

Oh man, that, combined with the creepy music playing in the background...I DIED in the theater. I want to see it again just for that scene.

But then again, I'm a big Kevin Smith fan. It sometimes went on a little too long during some romantic parts, but the comedy was just right.

Fav. bits: Jay's "Buffalo Bill" scene, ABC dance sequence, the jail scene, Mr. Pillow Pants, Randal's racist grandma

**********SPOILERSSPOILERSSPOILERS*****************

Oh yeah, that kid HAD to be his daughter, she has her pop's chubbyness, and her mom's ears. cute kid.

I liked the musical montage to the Smashing Pumpkin's "1979", I thought that was the most touching scene, and it reminded me of Magnolia, which Smith hates.

When I went to see it, there was literally only five of us in the theater (three black guys, a white couple), and I think only two of us (me and another black dude) laughed at the "porch monkey" scene.

I hope Zach Braff was paying attention, because that "ABC" scene, where Dante is just watching Becky dance, was pulled off perfectly, the way the scene with Largeman watching Sam SHOULD'VE played.

It took me awhile to notice that Dante was doing the same thing to Becky as he was doing to Veronica, with the nails.

And speaking of Rosario Dawson, where the hell did her hips go?

The guy that played Elias looks like Topher Grace, but he was great.

I can honestly say I didn't laugh as much at this as I did at the original, but like others have mentioned, that's prolly because I'm used to his dialogue by now. But this movie had the most heart of all his work, easily. I really liked this.

Damn, I didn't even think of that! You're right, she was cute.

I was waiting for the parents to look out the window in shock at the creepy guy staring at their daughter. lol

I liked that montage a lot, too. The whole soundtrack was really great.

Yeah, I guess that's Dante's "thing." I took it as the first indication that they were more than friends.

Right? I was thinking, "This is the same girl who filled out that silver dress in 25th Hour?" At least her titties are still luscious.

Man, Elias absolutely killed it for me. every scene between him and randall was absolutely hilarious, the stuttering, the nervousness, the facial expressions were priceless. you could almost see randall's words slowly poisoning elias' brain.

1. I loved this movie except the end was too long without a laugh and I think ran out of steam a little.

2. I also thought the porch monkey scene was sub-par UNTIL the back of Randal's shirt later. That made it all worth it.

3. Based on some of the banter here, I can't believe you people. It's worse over here than in The Lesson.

I wasn't happy with it. I thought a lot of it was funny but What I missed most from the first one was the customers. The thing I liked the most in the first one was you got the feeling these were losers in a community of losers. It made it seem like the only thing that made NJ livable were the people you surround yourself with; this one felt like it was about three people that had a crappy job and Office Space covered way better. And, I can always do without a scene where a colored person teaches a white person how to dance.

Mech

PS - plus, I really wanted to find out what happened with the two girls from the first film; not so much the bitch, but his girlfriend at the time.

they'd throw a word i dont know the definition of between scenes lol.

it was aight though, but you gotta be a Smith fan to really enjoy it.

they threw in a little of Jay Mewe's life story in there too. him chugging the red bull was funny....to me.

not the best Kevin SMith flick or even top three BUT i appreciate him not making it too gay(by gay i mean all the lovey dovey shit). he'd have the lovey dovey ish mixed in with Jay rushing into the scene like:

"THIS GUYS GOING TO CORNHOLE THE DONKEY YO....WITH HIS OWN COCK!"

Clerks II
Typical White Guy Bullshit.
by: Reggie Eggert, for Entertainment

Ya know, at some point, people are going to have to start judging Kevin Smith by the same standards that other filmmakers are judged and stop treating the guy like he's some mentally handicapped kid who should be applauded for making a satisfactory volcano for the 12th grade science fair.

I gives this muhfucka no credit. NONE!

Same movie, over and over again. Puerile bullshit. Films that practically scream, "I WANT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY, BUT I'M AFRAID OF SERIOUS CRITICISM, SO I'LL JUST PRETEND TO NOT CARE AND MAKE PLEASANTLY AWFUL, DISPOSABLE SHIT LIKE THIS." Oh, but I will make serious judgments on this guy's movies, because there ain't nothing I love more than picking on the fat kid in the back of the class who likes to pop shit about kids at the front of the class who are actually trying to fucking excel. We all know this kid. All the fucking loser kids laugh at the lil' petty shit that he says on the sly about the popular kids. You know why? Because they're fucking losers. That's just what they do.

After seeing Clerks II, there is no doubt that Joey Lauren Adams should have received an Oscar nod for Chasing Amy. She was like a magnificent diamond set in a ring made of hardened dog shit, so awesome that the band o' shit that supported her somehow appeared to be platinum. Without her performance, Kevin Smith would have not one "good" movie to his name. No, I do not think Clerks is a good film. I think it's a fucking volcano made by a 12th grade 'tard. And that shit still ain't fucking with Hard Eight, so why was he on Paul Thomas Anderson's dick for making Magnolia? While it was strange and a bit disjointed, Magnolia was undeniably the unbridled manifestation of an artist's vision, a raw, honest and unapologetic outpouring of Anderson's creativity.

I'd rather a pretentious and talented director indulge himself with some frogs falling out of the fucking sky than watch some half-assing hack, WHO CANNOT WRITE SIMPLE, PURPOSEFUL DIALOUGE, attempt to divert the audience's attention away from his flimsy story and boring characters with gratuitous bestiality. Talk about hitting rock bottom. What the fuck was he thinking? Oh, lemme guess what you're thinking, little Kev Smith fan: I'm a prude? I'm not too secure? I'm no fun? I need to lighten up? Riiiight. Well, guess what bitches? DON'T GET SO BENT OUTTA SHAPE WHEN SOMEONE FILMS FROGS FALLING OUTTA THE FUCKING SKY!!! You muhfuckas will cry about minor details of X-Men movies and then laugh at men blowing donkeys. That's something, fellas. Keep up the good work.

This movie, while not a total disaster, simply isn't funny or interesting. No one cares about these two ugly fucking guys. If they wanna be lazy, let them be lazy. Randal, Dante, Jay and Silent Bob are boring, lazy fucking people. Don't put dialogue in their mouths that makes them seem intelligent and appealing in one scene and then try to Slick Rick it up by letting them regress back into some lazy fucks who just wanna have fun and not bother nobody. I ain't buying that shit. I haven't bought it for 12 years. Until Kevin Smith makes a real fucking movie and puts his ass out there for some real criticism, I'ma keep hating on these college crowd, dumb ass, corny cracker, contrived and clichéd cock and pussy conversation carrying comedies. Just because you tanked with Jersey Girl, don't resign yourself to being Champion Of The Fucking Losers, nigga. Make a real movie, for fuck's sake.

Before closing, I'd just like to say Rosario Dawson did herself no favors, and I'll just leave it at that. And I won't even be cruel and make specific reference to THE casting mistake in this joint. As Will Smith said in Men In Black: "Damn..."

that was my take on the message of the film.

I thought hte nigger/porch monkey bit was a little much and there were a lot of disturbing bits but all in all was funny. had me near tears a few times.

i mean bottom line. to take a relatively formulaic storyline (guy ditches girl he's with who doesn't really make him happy for guy he truly loves) and have the culmination of that realization happen during a gay (i guess it's gay?) donkey show?

come on.

i still blame hip-hop.
