How 'bout we start with a list of A-list actors?

Cage has been good, but out of A-list actors, names someone worse. And don't be one of those Russell Crowe haters.

Off of people I'd consider A-list, Julia Roberts is far worse. In terms of MALE actors, I'm not sure. But Cage is certainly more versatile than some actors I really like on the A-list, like Tom Cruise or Jim Carrey.

I prefer Cage when he's more of a character actor. Don't let his action flicks fool you, the man can act.

funny thing is that he's made quite a few movies I really like.. many of which ironically have actually benefited from his cornball overacting.

he's was always a shitty actor though. the original Keanu Reeves.

He's a cornball sometimes but with the right director he can be very effective. I know he gets shit for playing a Mexican in Touch of Evil, but he's actually quite good. Welles agreed.

Heston is also fantastic in his small role in Branagh's Hamlet. Easily the best American in the film.

so his performance worked within the context of the film, but could you (or anyone watching for that matter) for one second actually *buy* that his character was mexican?

dude, "The Ten Commandments" is the most over-the-top movie EVER in terms of dialogue, but by the same token, it's the most awesomely quotable flick of all time for the same reason, lol...

yes, this is my pick in this category.

what is her good movie? name one julia roberts movie that is good. name a scene in which she's good.

she's all about pretty woman, sleeping with the enemy. she seems more like a brand name that audiences feel safe with.

one of the most annoying movie segments i've put up with is the "julia roberts" middle part of oceans 12

so.. has there ever been a non-trained actor on the A list? like a singer or an athlete

cross over the filmic realm as well

being an A-list star has NOTHING to do with being a good actor... hell, being a "star" period is really not about the quality of acting as it is about the appeal of an attractive PERSONA

most stars don't even really "act," when you get down to it... they consistently present a likeable persona in every film.

matt damon is good at that character he plays in talented mr. ripley & departed (and possibly also good sheppard) --- smart, bright future, but completely spineless & insecure, which ruins him in the end.

keanu reeves is so creepy i can't bear to think about him.

At one time he was a huge star. I'd say I've liked 5 of his movie roles:

Silverado
Bull Durham
The Untouchables
Field of Dreams
JFK

After tht Untouchables/Bull Durham/Field of Dreams run, he became an A-list actor. And with the exception of JFK, done right at the beginning of that run, he has been shitty for the last 18 years.

A supremely ignored and slept on flick in what was a very good period for movies. Directed by Eastwood, starring Costner, Eastwood, and Laura Dern.

She needs better roles. She's a great actress but, the movies she's being offered are killing her.

DON'T TAKE THEM!!!!!

I'm not saying she should sit on her ass and not work, but if people realize she's not gonna take anything thrown her way, she might get better offers. and for the record, she's NOT typescast, she's done comedy, action, AND drama, so it's not like she's good at one and bad at the other. She's equally bad at EVERYTHING, so I'm not blaming the scripts...

You're right that her script selection is definitely to blame... scattershot at BEST.

But she's definitely got a good actress in there when the role calls for it.

142. "A-List has NOTHING to do with acting abililty..."
In response to Reply # 0

ALL the A-list means is that you're considered bankable, you get marquee billing, lead roles offered to you/written for you/your name comes up in the first batch of possibles for a lead or meaty supporting role in major studio films....they write articles abt you, etc...

B-listers still have yet to prove their marquee value, youll never hear their names in the ads for a movie...their only lead roles will be indie or limited release flicks...

experience or acting skills have nothing to do with it...

B-list actors may still work alot and have some level of fame...

for instance, Robert Duvall is A-list...he can pick and choose...he's not hurting for work....

Keri Russell...B-list, still on the come up....

Jessica Biel...A-List

Emile Hirsch...B-List

Scott Caan...B-List

Jake Busey...B-list

Michael Madsen....B-List

Samantha Morton...B-list

Bill Paxson...A-List

Helen Hunt....A-List

Jodie Foster...A-list

Chiwitel Ejiofor....B-list

Kiera Knightley....A-list

Rhys Ifans....B-list

Rachel Griffiths...B-List

Jonathan Rhys-Meyers...B-List

Dax Shepherd...B-list

John Tuturro...????

I mean it was such a small window of time. What was it like two flicks that she was seen as that?

You can always take he's acting. Even Dre 3000 did a better job than him in 'stay cool'.

Motherfucker's got one goddamn face, that kinda squenched up, confused look, through every single movie he's in. It worked in "The Departed," but I think that had more to do with intelligent casting that Wahlberg turning in decent work.
