"The official TRANSFORMERS post (SPOILERS)"
Mon Jul-02-07 11:40 PM by ZooTown74

basically it was ID4 with robots...
no let me refrase.it was away better ction movie then id4 but it had little to do with the transformers...especially as u dont see the bots tillhalfway through the movie and most of the deceps only in the last half hour

great explosions, and action..but someone needs to tell bay that if u make a robot in just one colur, all detail is lost....all i saw was grey smudge, black smudge, brown smudge

oh yea..and oprimus has frakking monkey lips

patience is a virtue, but heaven awaits those who prey

at the time...during independence day holiday.

best.movie.ever.

after 5 minutes of critical thinking, outside of the holiday context...not so much. (your macbook is compatible, but i can't transfer files onto my pc ...word, really?)

not to start another "turn your brain off" argument (there are way too many on the boards these days)

im just saying the environment you watch a movie is important to the enjoyment.

Hilarious,
Being a fan of the transformers since childhood, I have to go see this movie. Just so I can at least give it my own review. I am pretty sure there will be a sequel because, that's how they do movies nowadays. They set the first one up for parts 2 and 3. The first one is usually slow and introduce you to the characters so that is what I will expect from this. For me it's more about nostalgia. I would hope it would be a good movie but I do believe that it will fall into the mediocre category.

cause i didnt really see the transformers cartoons but people were saying the same thing about the x-men movie... its like if you want to just completely change everything about the characters, why are you making the movie?

The story, the characters theyve proven to work why is there some innate desire to be unfaithful to them when the movie comes around.

Main reason being, the costumes would look really ridiculous on-screen.
If you ever see the Marvel island of Adventure theme park, it's apparent.

They got a few things wrong, but got most right.

===

With Transformers, though?

One of the main gripes was Bay's thorough dismissal of the establish design aesthetic of TFs in favor of him being able to include whatever new flashy GM (read:American) cars he got a boner off of.

He also wanted them to be over complex and ugly, to symbolize their alien nature... ignoring established canon that the robots were initially manufactured as service and military machines, but later gained self-awareness. They shouldn't be ugly, but presentable.
If anything, they should look as refined as a car would, with the mechanisms hidden for the most part.

Other shit?

Instead of accidentally crash landing their ship on Earth and remaining dormant for millions of years, the new movie has them crash land in 2007 as self-propelled metallic turds that can reshape themselves into any form they please.

Instead of the Decepticons seeking to deplete the planet's energy sources to return to Cybertron and rule, they're instead seeking a mystical cube that can make a Mountain Dew vending machine and a cellphone turn into robots so they can take over Earth.

Instead of the being the runt of the litter, Bumblebee is now larger than Jazz and a muscle car... but can not talk, and instead plays songs to convey his thoughts.

Spike and Sparkplug are now called Sam and Ron, man.

There is no Soundwave, but theres a little... thing that turns into a stereo.

Why does Optimus Prime have flames? It betrays his character.

Jazz dies? You just introduced him! WTF?! (Always gotta be the Black guy, right Hollywood?)

The film spends more time with the humans, where in the REAL TF movie, the only organic characters were Spike and his son (and a fucking fish).

The script ends with the plot device gone and the main villain disposed of. Now there is no reason for the TFs to be on Earth. How you gonna make a series of films out of that?

===

IMO, they botched the handling of the actual film (aside from the CGI).
Even worse is, the rift this has caused in the TF fandom, which is as die hard as Star Wars/Star Trek, only on a smaller scale.

And with Hasbro basically giving the middle finger to the incarnation of TF that people know best? I'm pretty much through.

I'm gonna cop the figure in my avy (Hot Rod) and the Masterpiece Starscream and be done with my collecting.

I got better things to do tonight than cry.

THANK U....
i couldnt actually put into words how much the movie annoyed the shit out of me..but u said mst of it right here

also, for all bay's bitching about mass reduction, the frenzy decep(the one that turns into a stereo) manages to turn into both a stereo and a cellphone...
and the big ass mystical cube, bigger then all the robots, turns into a small cube that Sam carries with him...gee wouldnt THAT involve mass reduction?

except or maybe 4 character, no one has a personality....Jazz dies, but who cares, u could've jus as well put ironhide or ratchet in there, i dotn know em anyways

and people tell me i should wait till after the credits, to see what happened to the 2 missing deceps
fuck that..if its important show me in the movie...dont do someting completely illogical and then waist my time even more by making me watch a lot of letters on a screen

patience is a virtue, but heaven awaits those who prey

It was sorta corny but I gotta kick out of it the 1st time Shia picks up Fox

> There is no Soundwave, but theres a little... thing that

& a cell phone & a spider & uhhhhhh yeah the movie could've used an actual Soundwave. He was my favorite decepticon.

Didn't mind this

> Jazz dies? You just introduced him! WTF?! (Always gotta be

The wassup bitches line totally caught me off guard. And was he a Beamer?

> The film spends more time with the humans, where in the REAL

If he would've made the robots more engaging then they would've deserved more screen time. Here they're almost just an afterthought or comic relief in a way.

After seeing this movie did you really wanna see a series of films like it?

True

Wasn't aware of this. I was such a big fan of the show & the toys back in the day tho that after the trailer looked decent enough I had to see it no matter what. Still glad I saw it & glad I didn't allow unreasonable expectations. Gotta remember its Bay were talkin bout here.

Pretty much everything I was thinking. Actually if you read some reviews, regardless of the Transformers part, the movie itself is full of holes plotwise and other reasons, added on top of the fact that the focus wasn't as much on the Transformers, the "edgy" look of the transformers which made the fighting sequences hard to decipher, blatant product placement that was just plain obvious and annoying, and other aspects and you get a not so great movie, a transformers one at that.

You and many others share this same opinion, regardless of age or appreciation of Transformers. It is a divide. People thought it "rocked" or was a travesty. The day after I watched 10 full episodes of Transformers on YouTube and all was right again.

I thought that there was also more than one film, but yeah, I guess there is only the one. It happens when you post pissed off about other shit, I guess. My basic point is that they cant make these movies for the original people that fell in love with the stuff because it was dated material. There were cars from the 80s, etc and there's no way that they could have a boombox in the movie, kids today wouldn't even know what that is. I had some gripes about the xmen movies along these lines, but realized that if you just sat back and forgot most of the shit that you knew about them from your childhood, you could enjoy the film for what it is.

After reading another one of your posts where you went into detail about the items they changed/altered I can understand your point, but I still dont want to see the old transformers in a movie made today. I have the dvd for the first film, and when I want to watch that, I'll just watch that.

As is, I'm psyched as fuck for this movie and think that the updated transformers actually look pretty cool. They're not the original ones that I loved as a kid, but there's a bunch of stuff that I used to love as a kid that doesn't really interest me now

and i liked ID4 for its brainless action and effects.

transformers is a fun ride if you can stomach all the obligatory corniness and slow exposition scenes. don't expect a great story either.

and as far as robot design -- they look great when they're standing still, but when they're moving fast it's hard to tell them apart sometimes or even discern features. sometimes they look like giant metal blobs with sharp edges.

the scenes with the Autobots hiding from Sam's parents? funny, but completely a waste of time. the bots barely got any dialogue, the Decepticons being the main ones getting lines cut. i remember the writers explaining how the Starscream and Megatron dynamic would still be in place, but all we got was a 10 second exchange between the two in which Megs shows he is displeased with Starscream "yet again".
there was just simply too much time spent on humans, and that stupid, STUPID love story with Sam.

this is a movie about the ROBOTS. screw all these secondary human characters. ppl wanna see big robots smashing shit, first of all. second, the bigger fans of the franchise wanna see the bots interacting with each other. THEY'RE the stars of the film, so they deserve more screen-time with non-corny, expository dialogue.

lol @ Jazz getting canned. anyone else just go "ok, ye, there's the obligatory black dude gettin kiled".

i dunno, overall good but bad.

This type of shit happens CONSTANTLY in movies. I understand the idea that something needs to drive the film forward, and make it attractive to mainstream...

I get that.

But frick that noise. Who needs some love story to drive the movie? How much more do you need than robots transforming and trying to murder each other? Why do I need all the dialogue and extra garbage? Why change things for the sake of changing them?

Blah.

I gotta admit I was pretty giddy after the 1st "transformation" & old school transforming sound even if the sound didn't really mesh well w/ the actual transformation.

If you were a HUGE fan of the toys like me when I was young then you just gotta love when Shia rubs his thumb across the center of the steering wheel after he sits in Bumblebee for the 1st time & the autobot sign is revealed. I was grinnin like the fucking Joker after that scene

Also had to love how the more than meets the eye line was used. I had a feeling Bay threw it in there regretfully outta retrospect. Throwing it in again at the end was overkill tho.

Some of the action was cool but at other times it was hard to tell what was goin on. And I don't think it was just because I was sitting so close.

The 1st time 1 of the transformers talks the whole audience started cracking up. People thought Batman's growl was bad? Wait till you hear this shit.

And I'm convinced now that the only reason why Bumblebee was a Camaro instead of a Bettle is because Chevy was willing to pay for it & VW wasnt. Just like obviously Pontiac was willing to cough up some dough to get their Solstice in there as well.

I liked Shia, Tuturro, Fox & Taylor but the rest of acting besides a funny moment or two (some will consider it cooning) from AA & Mac, the rest of the acting was laughably cheesy.

C+ mostly for the nostalgia factor. I cant imagine peeps not familiar with the toys or the old show enjoying it very much.

GM put their money into this film, so their cars were used. At least, it was kind of cool how they made Bumblebee start off being the shittiest Camaro ever and then have him become the '09 Camaro. Just think: Knight Rider (though, GM made them stop saying "Pontiac" because dumbasses kept going to dealers asking for the "Knight Rider Car"). It would have been more "Bumblebee" appropriate if Bumblebee was a Chevette that turned into a Aveo, but Aveos ain't really running off the shelves.

VW wouldn't have done it anyway, they have problems with their cars being used for "war-like" functions, due to the company history and ties to Hitler, etc.

When Transformers came out (particularly, their root toys in Japan), they didn't have to worry so much about licensing the actual vehicles and what not; now, that's a real big deal with the IP hounds and whatnot. Not too long ago, they had to modify the hell out of a Transformer toy (that transformed into a Mercedes SUV), to avoid the legal complications (even though the original one had no Mercedes-Benz logos, it was very obvious that it was that car).

Like The Doc has said, it ain't about what they transform into, it's what they're transforming from ....those robots look like garbage.

I've seen tons of these little guys on the roads, and even a few in yellow.
It's updated, small and sporty enough to be Bumblebee... but Bay just wanted a "kick-ass" car in his film.

The bots are how they are just because Bay wanted it that way.

It turned me into a huge Transformers fan tonight. The movie is unexpectedly funny (lots of laugh out loud moments) and the story doesn't feel awkward or confusing despite trying to introduce the concept as a whole.

Action scenes? Top fucking notch. Everyone complaining about blurriness and the like... huh? Shit, I wasn't wearing my glasses and I could tell everything that was going on. Sure, there were the obligatory obstructed or shaky shots, but it wasn't overboard. I could easily tell who was who in every scene.

Loved, loved, loved this movie. Girlfriend loved it, brother loved it, friend loved it... and the audience I was with felt the need to applaud at the end (I don't do that lol).

This is the definition of a summer blockbuster.

Go Wings.

cosign. I didn't have too many problems. A couple shots at the final battle were confusing for a couple seconds but nothing I would consider a major flaw in the film.

yep. Its definitely an audience movie.

me and my boys spent the entire car ride home ripping it apart... and i never owned a single transformer. it was just fucking retarded. entertaining for about an hour and a half i guess, but the lines and the personalities they gave the transformers were fucking awful.

Maybe there was a slow moment or two, but I think the length was a good fit for this movie.

this movie is meant to be seen on the big screen... preferrably one like the cinerama in seattle.

judging a popcorn movie by some poor quality bootleg copy? comical.

i've been very underwhelmed by the cinerama the last few times i've been there. then again, maybe it was the obnoxious audience members that just distracted me from the movie. if possible, i would rather see movies on the IMAX screen down the street.

I hear you on that one. I'd pretty much given up on seeing a movie anywhere close to opening because of all the MST3000 wannbees. Last night the crowd was one of the better crowds (as far as silence) that I'd seen there in a while

the 8pm crowd was the perfect crowd if you ask me. everyone had their iphones out before the movie (they let folks in at least an hour early) and they cheered as the lights went down (last time i heard a crowd react like that when the lights went down was at "the phantom menace"), and cheered louder when "hasbro" came up...

they laughed and moaned at all the right parts, and cheered loudly when the credits began to roll...

that was the 8pm show btw...

aside from some bad casting (who is megan fox? josh duahmel and anthony anderson did NOT belong. you never want josh duahmel in yr flick....), some gratuitous slow-mo/close-up stuff, and some really weird editing, it wasn't all that bad.

no one hit their humor marks except shia labeouf (and this is the kind of humor he excels at. i kept thinking of "even stevens" watching him in this.) and his parents.

i liked the introduction of the autobots and their "visit" to sam's.

but bumblebee in trouble reminded me of that old '80s flick, "short circuit." 'round the eyes, anyway.

i don't know. that li'l michaela chick (megan fox) nearly ruined the human storyline. and the military stuff was mad cheesy. all of it. but whatevs. it's not really about any of that. it's all about the robots. and bay did deliver the robotic goodness.

First off, there are a lot of things to nit pick or are just straight up wrong in this film. Prime with flames? Jazz not a Porshe? WTF is up with the voice (or lack thereof) of the Decepticons? Devastator should be 5 robots, not a tank. Megs cryogenically frozen for 80 years? How can they fix Bumblebee but not Jazz (my favorite Autobot from the beginning of time)? Anthony Anderson? Tyreese?

But as was stated, once the action started, it was a wrap. Jazz was still black. Prime had his sword (and his voice). Megs had his mace. Starscream was absolutely the baddest ass robot out there, because he was straight fucking up shit. I wished Blackout would have tore more stuff up with that prop plade, but damn if it didn't look cool. While the robots were overly stylized, they looked good in their transformations and when they fought (even though it did get hard to see at times and could be blurry, even on the big screen)

Overall, as much was wrong with the film, I would still see it again and will be buying it as soon as it (legally) comes on DVD and Bluray.

This was Michael Bay's best movie since The Rock

No lie

Emotionally, it took me right back to when I was 12, peeping the animated movie with my cousins back in Tha Zoo

Certainly entertaining

But he really could have brought it in at 2:10 and been fine

My eyes glazed over with all of the talk about the cube and what would happen with the fate of the world and blah blah blah

I didn't care

I did care about the battles, and the effects, and they delivered on both counts

And I really appreciated the "edgy" humor

Shia's a funny dude, I can see why Spielberg's digging on him

Also, Anthony Anderson won

And TURTURRO

And my man Brian Stepanek won, too. For those who have seen it, he was Turturro's driver/right hand man

He also played Meter Maid (yes, that was his character's name) on an episode of Cuts that I wrote

Good dude

I'm sure the more I think about it critically, the more I'll find wrong with it

But for now, I'll say I enjoyed it quite a bit

I could've had more screen time for Starscream though.

Shia Lebeouf and Megan Fox did a good job. So did Tyrese and that white dude that was w/ him the whole movie. The robots were great, the action was great.

The Camaro was sleek and sexy. Also, Megatron would've sucked and been really corny as a gun.

G1 nerds need to go back to their Hobbit hole and STFU.

I just got back. And I enjoyed myself more than with the so-called Die Hard movie but I couldn't help but notice how horribly this thing was written and/or edited. what happened w/ hot hacker girl, turturro on tooo much coffee and john more rumsfeld than rumsfeld voight? no one knows because they didn't bother to resolve their storyline. just a black fucking hole.

if optimus prime can't beat megatron shove the all-important cube of mystery into his chest. it's the only hope. well, the only hope besides shaving it in megatron's chest instead.

oh and how could bumble bee talk all of a sudden?

oh and megan fox was a bad girl. and that was important because?

there was some great action and lebouf is a bonafide star and his charisma drives the movie. if they had cut a lot of the extraneous characters and given him some more to work w/ (esp. developing a real relationship w/ the autobots and bumble bee it would have been a much better movie)

that shot w/ whichever robot flips over that woman is one of the dopest things i've ever seen

They're little storyline was over when Frenzy KOed itself. They got the word out to the military through that radio. There was nothing else for them to do.

magic? i dunno, but I'm not looking for little things to nitpick about.

the transformers in this movie are amazing. they can honestly not get any better with special effects. the character designs are flawed - WAY too busy - but the actual animation, transformations, effects, etc. are like 2 or 3 levels above anything else that's every been done in film.

the problem is michael bay.

this mother fucker can't just tell a simple story. he has to have 5 useless storylines, a forced, shitty romance and the entire US armed forces involved in every fucking movie he makes.

he just has SO. MUCH. SHIT. going on, it makes you naceous.

and why is EVERY GOD DAMN SHOT DONE WITH SHAKY-CAM? jesus fucking christ, man. you have the best special effects ever made, but i can't make any of it out because you keep SHAKING THE FUCKING CAMERA. i would have KILLED to have those action scenes shot with a locked-down camera.

and some of this dialogue...holy fucking christ...unbeLEEEEEEveably corny.

it's a really awful movie, but worth seeing just for the autobots.

oh, and i love how Bumblebee gets his fucking voice back for no god damn reason. amazing writing, guys.

oh, and how a retarded black guy can hook up a computer from 1980 to a radio from 1940 and output morris code to the Air Force miles away. fucking brilliant.

i still think the CGI could have been nicer. there were many spots where it looked more like a computer game than real footage (you can find some better work on youtube nike commercials and shit). but the colors were great. visually still amazing. the character design was FAR too busy, but the close-ups still showed actual shapes and art direction.

everything else you said: my thoughts exactly. generic Bay plot, inability to soak in what you're looking at because every shot has to be fast and shaky and wild angle...like ZIP! BAM! BOOM! all movie.

BUT! ...shit (somehow) was still amazing! lol

"No, it's just me!"

Okay, so I enjoyed this movie immensely just as a (flawed) action film with giant robots and cool automobiles and explosions and battles.

There were some... deviations from classic Transformers that bothered me, most if not all of which have already been addressed in this post. Also, Jazz's death pissed me off GREATLY.

Other than that, I really enjoyed this movie and will probably see it again. But that would be most to look at the robots. Too much human element in the film.

I just wish I could take my nephew and then bask in how cool he would now think I am because his auntee knows about things like robots.

That's pretty much the only thing wrong with this movie.

S-P-O-I-L-E-R-S Below

The opening scenes where Bumblebee is in the lot and fucking up Bernie Mac's lot = comedy.

The scene where bumblebee is playing the music without dude knowing his car can transform and thus increasing the mood = more comedy.

What was up with the cooniggery with the black folks playing DDR?

The only other major bad thing about this movie is the ending. What was up with starscream escaping into space? There better be 15 deleted scenes on the DVD.

...to represent black folk in summer blockbusters.

While I liked the movie for the most part ("Awesomely terrible" is as good of a description as any...), there was more than a little not-so-subtle racist undertones/xenopobia/cultural insensitivity prevalent throughout.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who picked up on it.

the movie was a blast. period.

i was skeptical at first. i hated the designs. bay is one of the worst directors i can think of.

but it worked.

yeah, some of it was really corny, but come on now... it's a movie about ROBOTS. cartoon robots, no less. this is not citizen kane, nor is it supposed to be.

bay won.

DONT LET THE JOCKS WIN!!!!!!!!!!STUDY SOUNDWAVES!!!!!!!!!!!!BLACK PEOPLE HAVE CLINGY FAT ANGRY MOMS AND YELL A LOT!!!!!!!!

Worst story ever.

Great action but it should have been pitched to kids and dumped almost every human character except for Shia.

Transformers fans should be satisfied that the movie is just as brain dead, hollow and stupid as the series was--and they are.

I'd say there was too much story. Just gimme the robots fighting. Cut that 15 minute scene in the house with the Autobots on the lawn. Cut the sequence where they escape from the Sector 7 people just to get captured again immediately. Cut all of the Australian blonde computer genius (lol) and Anthony Anderson shit. I need robots fighting humans, robots fighting robots, and a small dose of boy-and-his-robot.

But man.... the special effects were fucking bonkers.

The mind boggling bad writing aside, the action was boring. It's like everytime they wanted a Transformer to do something cool, they had it do a flip and shoot a missle from god knows where on its body.

The part where they go "one shall stand, the other shall fall"
all the dialogue between prime and megatron from their fight. They took some of it from the cartoon and movie.

I knew from the get go they were not going to make the movie exactly how the cartoon was (story wise) and I have no problem with that.

Those of you who wanted this to be a carbon copy of the show, sorry you would need a budget of half a billion dollars to pull that off.

I am going to see this again.

It was highly entertaining and the special effects were some of the best I can think of in recent memory.

Sure it was corny at times, but nowadays, almost every movie is.

This is top 3 of the year so far for me, along with Grindhouse and 300, with Knocked Up right there.

Isn't it funny that Spider-Man 3 and Fantastic Four 2 were supposed to be the big comic movies this year, but the ones we will probably all remember when it's said and done will be Transformers and 300.

I found that intersting that they would put drivers in all vehicles as holograms.

It was a twist to see the real time phsyics to transformers being conditioned to the decades but always changing Transformers. I can accept the realistic view of this genre.
not see jazz as the racer he was is a turndown.Scatt Man Crothers RIP is a obvious reason why jazz voice wasn't the same. When they were first displayed as action figures they had no voices and Marvel's animation brought them to life and that was many childerns first introduction to tranformers but i do remember when they were just cars in boxes.

Yes my first transformer was Jazz.

In response to Reply # 0

Boy, a lot of this is going to piss some of you off even further. Oh well. From ew.com:

>Summer Movie Q&A

Optimus Prime Time

''Transformers'' director Michael Bay opens up about working with Steven Spielberg, the art of the action film, and the possibility of a sequel

By Adam B. Vary

''I've thought more about robots in a year and a half than probably anybody,'' sighs Michael Bay. Slouched in his chair, a gentle breeze wafting through his surprisingly zen Santa Monica, Calif., office, he's still hung over from the previous evening's mega-premiere of his latest summer-action extravaganza, Transformers the movie adaptation of the 1980s cartoon TV series and Hasbro toy line about a race of alien machines who bring their war to Earth. (He may be doing more celebrating after seeing the estimated $36.3 million in box-office revenue from the movie's first 36 hours in theatres, including $27.5 million on July 3, its first full day of release, a new record for a Tuesday opening.)

Over the course of the next hour, Bay talked to EW.com about his working relationship with exec producer Steven Spielberg, what helped him get over the notion of directing just ''a toy movie,'' and how he feels about being, you know, Michael Bay.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: I have to tell you, as a Transformers fan since childhood, the special effects were pretty darn cool.

MICHAEL BAY: That's what it's all about. I worked a long time on that. It wasn't always easy.

EW: I can see why the machinery is incredibly intricate. Why did you want to go in that route and not more

MB: Simple? Like a cartoon? Basically it's the equivalent of, like, the Marshmallow Man in Ghostbusters. It's got to withstand, you know, a 40-foot screen you just need a lot of detail and a lot of things moving just to keep your eye dazzled by these complex machines. It wasn't always peaches and cream. The robots kind of sucked in the beginning. My whole thing is lighting with (visual) effects. We all know something in our brain is telling us it's not lit right that's what makes you say it looks like a cartoon. You figure out how it's all going to reflect different pieces of light different materials reflect differently.

EW: What first hooked you into wanting to direct Transformers?

MB: It was a pitch that Steven (Spielberg) gave me. The story is true: I hung up (after we talked) and went ''I'm not doing that silly movie because it sounds like a toy movie.'' I thought about it. And I said okay, you know, (I'll) just go to Hasbro (for) this thing called Transformer School. I sat in this conference room and we went through the entire lore of Transformers. I like Japanese anime movies I just think visually they're really cool. There were some images in the room; I kept looking at one and I'm like, you know, if I make it real and edgy, it might be something really interesting. So I was a non-Transformer fan, but that's good because I think it makes it more accessible for people that are non-Transformer fans. I kept having this image of a kid hiding his robots from his parents. To me that's just a great kid fantasy. You have alien robots that are your friends. That's charming to me. (Chuckles)

EW: My understanding is that Spielberg really was the guy that roped you into directing this film. What was the first time that you realized that he was following your career?

MB: When I was 27, I did a whole string of commercials that were pretty famous, the type of commercial where people go to a bar (and say), ''Did you see that commercial?'' That ''Got Milk?'' stuff, a whole string of funny Nike ones, whatever. So I sent this reel (of my work) around Hollywood. I get this call from my agent. ''Steven wants to see you.'' I go, ''Steven who?'' ''Steven Spielberg wants to see you.'' Okay. I drove down to his office. A true story I said, ''You know, when I was 15, I worked at Lucasfilm and I filed your Raiders of the Lost Ark storyboards. I saw the entire movie (in storyboard form) and I honestly thought it was going to suck.'' (Laughs) And he started laughing. And I said, ''When I went to the Grauman's Chinese (Theater) with my parents and saw it, I went 'Oh my God, I've got to do this.''' (Pause) I don't know, he's always been nice to me.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: There are stories of him asking you how you would pull off certain shots, or certain sequences.

MICHAEL BAY: What was fun working with him, we would sit in my war room and (I'd say), ''Oh, Steven, I got this scene and I want to do it like this and shoot like that.'' And he knows what I'm talking about. He goes, ''Oh, what if you do that?'' But you can see when I'm showing him stuff that his gears are ticking for Indiana Jones 4. (Chuckles) You can see that he's a competitive director.

EW: I'm told he worked a lot with the Transformers' screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to bring a certain innocent tone to the film. The motto seems to have been, ''It's about a boy and his car.''

MB: Yeah. That was the hook to the movie. But I added a stronger military thing at the beginning to make it more, I guess, badass, to make the stakes higher. But originally the tone was very suburbia. We kind of changed that and made it edgier. I like the idea of the suburbia. I specifically shot this a little bit more suburbia, meaning, like, I would never put actors at a Burger King, but it's what people do, you know what I mean? Or in (lead character Sam Witwicky's suburban) house. It's not a sexy house. But it's identifiable, and more accessible.

EW: Was there a particular demographic that you thought would be your target audience?

MB: I just thought it would be from kids to, you know, to 20-something whatever. The first day on the set I'm working with all these guys in the military and I was apologizing for the movie. Forty-something guys. I was like, ''Okay guys, I know this sounds really stupid, but there's a 40-foot-tall robot over here and it's going to flip and land right here.'' They're like, ''Which robot? Is this Starscream?'' I'm like, how do these guys know that? And I realized, oh my God, it's a lot older than I thought.

EW: What is your work ethic with actors? What do you want and expect out of them when you are on the set?

MB: I want people to bring their A game. There are some directors that sit in a chair. They sit in their trailer. I am always on the set. I do 12-hour days, that's it, and I don't go in overtime. And I shoot very fast. When I am doing action I'm like your worst nightmare basketball coach. I am there with my kneepads on, right next to you, and I'm there because I'm trying to instill the adrenaline. When they see me intense, I see actors' intensity starting to rise. It's like a game you've got to play. Sometimes you create a bit of chaos. We call it on the set ''Bayos.'' But no, honestly, it's like a manipulation thing.

EW: You made certain changes to the Transformers from the '80s series to update them and make them cinematic like giving Optimus Prime a long-nose truck cab instead of a flat-front. There was a lot of fan uproar about that. There were even rumors that you got death threats.

MB: No. You get these funny talkbacks, like, ''Damn you, Michael Bay, you wrecked my childhood, Michael Bay. I want to hunt you down.'' I mean, whatever, you know. People are passionate about their childhoods. (Laughs) But honestly, they remember the cartoons greater than what they really are if you look at them. Because they don't stand up at all.

EW: I watched the 1986 Transformers animated movie the night before seeing your film, and it was, um, kinda not so good.

MB: Yeah, I saw 15 minutes of that movie and I wanted to put a gun to my head. ''I can't see this. I have to go into my own head about what this movie (I'm making) is.'' (Laughs) So yeah, you take the heat, but they weren't seeing (the robots) in a 3-D world.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: I couldn't help noticing that all the Autobots other than Optimus Prime are GM cars.

MICHAEL BAY: Why did I do it? I did this movie for (a budget of) $150 (million). That was a hard number. Steven, he's tight with the budget. So it forced me to get creative. I opened it to any car company, from Ford to Porsche, anyone. I just did it to keep an open mind because I wanted to find Bumblebee. I did not want a Volkswagen (like in the original cartoon series) it's the Herbie Love Bug to me.

I've had a relationship with GM, so they took me to where they do these cool concept cars. I saw this picture of that Camaro (used in the film), and I'm like, That's the car. It saved me $3 million on my budget, getting all those cars. I don't think you are whoring out the movie, because I think each car kind of fits the character. Maybe not Jazz . Jazz is the one thing which I was like, ehhh, I wish he was a different car, personally. It's too little. But that's why I did it. It saved me money.

EW: Was there any concern that you were also serving Hasbro, making sure that you are true to the toys and original characters?

MB: Well, I said ''Listen, if I do this, I'm going to redesign these things. You might not like everything, but I'm going to do it my way or I'm not going to do it.'' Starscream (the Decepticon fighter jet) they had a big f---ing problem with, you know. When we were deciding characters it became kind of ridiculous. Ian Bryce, my producer, came to me: ''Mike, they need the molds (of the Transformers for the toys).'' (I said) ''We don't have a script yet. We're only on page 30!'' He goes, ''They need the molds in China. What kind of vehicles do you want?'' Literally, we were scrambling.

EW: There was a poem that leaked on the Internet this spring, seemingly written by someone within production, that blamed DreamWorks for giving you too much creative control over the movie. Is it weird being the director people seem to love to take shots at?

MB: No. I'm pretty content with who I am. I feel like I'm happy in my life. They take cheap shots because people don't really know me. They think (what I do) is not art. Like, a nice woman from the Hollywood Foreign Press, she (asks me), ''Wouldn't you want to do more of an art movie, like something that's hard to do?'' And I said, ''Are you kidding me?'' I had this big picture of Bumblebee (behind me). That took a team of artists. It is so much harder to do, these type of (big action) movies, than a little art movie in the south of France. I mean, if you can take something that doesn't exist and make it look like it's got a soul, that's art. It's just frustrating when people just think it's like, oh, it's easy.

EW: How are you sitting with the idea of directing another Transformers movie?

MB: Let's see how this one does. I've got a lot of ideas for the next one. There's a lot of really cool, big robot stuff that I had in my head that we didn't do. I just want to see how this works. You might not grow as much as a director (to do a sequel). But it's kind of like you have your baby and you don't want someone else to take it.

EW: So, hypothetically, if you were to take on a Transformers sequel, would it be your next film?

MB: I don't know if it would be ready. It just takes so long to do a script. A couple things are on the horizon, but (maybe) I'll do my little movie that I can knock out, because we all think we're going to have a strike.

EW: What is it?

MB: Pain and Gain. It's a true story, happened in Florida. Just love the characters. It's these guys who work at a gym, and nothing's good enough. They're all looking for the American Dream, and they end up kidnapping. It's like a mixture of Fargo and Pulp Fiction, but it's all true. And they're knuckleheads. The whole point is no one's happy with what they've got. It's a fun character piece. No action. One car crash.

EW: Maybe that woman from the Hollywood Foreign Press will be satisfied.
MB: (Laughs) I don't know! If I shot in the south of France, maybe she would!

he has the taste level of a 14-year-old...he's just interested in fast cars and explosions.

he wouldn't usually show a suburban house because it's not "sexy"? jesus christ. he just needs to be a DP and stay the fuck away from any sort of script.

and his only justification for making the characters so visually complicated is to give the audience more to look at? fucking brilliant.

i'm really confused as to why spielberg just didn't direct the movie himself....the "boy and his robot" would've been a fuck of a lot better than the shit michael bay threw up on screen.

...in a storyboarded, but unanimated scene.

After the Dinobots fail to beat Devastator, Devastator falls into the interior of the city where he's faced by Ultra Magnus and a few of the Autobot cars.

The Autobots launch missiles into Dev, knocking him apart into the 6 Constructicons.
The 'Cons then fire back, murking out Red Alert in the process.

Megatron is heading into the interior where all that happened by the time Prime catches up to him, which we actually see.

It's hard to make Transformers a really unwatchable movie but Bay came close. Too many storylines, too many lame jokes, overall hyper-camera/editing was too much. And then after all the world's communications go down, there's almost a war, and "Mission City" gets blown apart, we're led to believe that somehow nobody noticed and the government was able to cover it up?

Action-wise, there needed to be more stuff like the Starscream fight sequence. Half the time I had no idea what was going on.

And for all of the storylines, there weren't really any interesting characters. The decepticons especially were lousy. They should have had Starscream be the first attack to establish him a bit.

Still, despite slow parts, I was entertained although it really was just a big budget Transporter-type flick with robots.

And we know: "So? The movie still SUX elephant donkey ass." The demos are interesting, though, and that's why this was posted. From your girl Nikki Finke:

>SATURDAY AM: Paramount says Transformers made $22.5 million Friday from 4,011 North American theaters and has a new cume of $107.4 million. Box office gurus tell me that, after a record breaking Fourth Of July week opening, the DreamWorks battle of the bots should haul in $60 million this weekend for a 6 1/2-day cume of $150 million. That's 50% more gross receipts than Paramount anticipated, and 20% more than box office gurus predicted. That's also equivalent to the budget of the rock 'em, sock 'em movie without marketing costs. "Word has gotten out to the parents that it's OK to take the kids," a Paramount exec told me Friday.

The studio just told me it believes Transformers's first 6 1/2 days of release positions it as one of the biggest non-sequel 7-day openings of all time, alongside Spider-Man 1, The Passion Of The Christ and Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone.

Cinemascope gives Transformers an A with "under 18" and "18 to 24 years olds" giving it an A+. Biggest reason why moviegoers went to see it was "subject matter" (63%) and "type of movie" (35%). Other data have showed a strong nostalgia factor for Transformer toys and toons.

Paramount also tells me preliminary exit polling shows that, among general audiences, Transformers is playing strongest with general audiences' older females (Moms) and through the roof with kids (90% of boys say they would definitely recommend) and parents (82% say they would definitely recommend).

But the studio believes that what is making the big box office difference is not just African Americans flocking to see the film but especially Latino audiences. They attribute this to the casting of Amaury Nolasco, the star of a popular telenovela as well as Fox's Prison Break who in the movie plays ACWO Jorge "Fig" Figueroa. He was recently included in a USA Today list of the 26 guys to watch.

Meanwhile, Transformers has smashed one-day records for Tuesday ($27.8M), Wednesday ($29M), and Thursday ($19.1M) as well as for Independence Day. On Monday night, the pic directed by Michael Bay and supervised by Steven Spielberg took in $8.8M.

I will say that the screenplay had some issues, but overall, I enjoyed it a great deal. I did have one question though: Why was the cube turning everything evil? And why, if it's energy fixed that lil' Decepticon bastard immediately, did it not fix Bumblebee's vocal issues immediately?

"what up bitches", are you serious? You introduce one of the cooler autobots with a line like that?

Optimus Prime was on point, had the right voice, and was kicking ass.

We all know Michael Bay fux movies up with ridiculous subplots and a lot of added preservatives that detract from the original concept (think Pearl Harbor), but if you just go in with your thinking cap off, its a hell of a ride. The CGI work is nothing short of amazing, and everything, minus the script, meshed extremely well.

Way too much storyline shit cutting away from the actual robots themselves. Bay coulda cut a good 20 mins by editing out some of the needless government and analyst scenes...shit was just pointless. If they give that time to more fighting and more shit with the transfomers, along w/ the Shia-Fox angle and the special forces team, I really woulda enjoyed the movie that much more. The multiple storylines felt completely tacked on, lemme see the bots in action dangnabit.

Far too much sector 7 nonsense and especially showing that the decepticons can tamper with and eliminate the US's communications, WE GET IT! Some corny ass dialogue didnt help either, too many attempts for one liners esp from Duahmel and that line from Shia about thinking about your life 50 years from now, no idea how they got through that with straight faces, lol.

Otherwise, I enjoyed the movie for what its worth....a summer, action blockbuster, and with my boy Shia getting some serious shine. Fox was solid, but the whole backstory just felt too tacked and trying to force some character development. The special forces cats played their roles well too imo.

The pacing coulda been way better if they woulda just edited some of the needless stuff along with that scene at Shia's house....the autobots hiding gets old after the first 5 mins and then Jazz's first line? WTF? If Bay just sticks to the bots and Shia, and cuts out the other needless storylines along with alot the shit about the cube, it would be a far better film.

Wow...
There are some SERIOUS haters in here... I have no words really.

As far as the movie is concerned.. I enjoyed myself supremely.. this isn't the TF that we knew & loved but honestly MB said that he was just updating the series. Me & most other TF fans know that there are other TF incarnations that no one liked *IE: Beast Wars* & since Hasbro got TF's back from Kenner it's been nothing but cars since. The way it should be. That within itself is a good reason to let all that sh*t go & just dig what we've been given.
Agreed... there were holes *BB's voice, (which honestly is a tactic they stole from the Junkions in TF: The Movie back in 86')... the peeps in the room with frenzy, etc* & Some of the TF's looked ridiculous with all the over detail & whatnot but honestly I put that all away.. there's no such thing as a perfect or near perfect movie. Period.
Basically I got schooled by a friend of mine who knows 1 of the writers. He told me that they really are fans of the show back in the day & the o.g. movie & when you write something like this... you understand that there's some things that just won't translate well or that you have to get rid of. Sometimes you have to sacrifice certain things in Hollywood in order to have an overall good project. Sometimes your babies have to be fucked with.
& honestly when GM offers to pay XX,XXX,XXX.XX in order to have TF's be a walking talking rolling AD for their cars please believe it will be done. In order to make an omelet...
I am a TF fan. I have actually seen every single cartoon. Literally. Yes I was pissed about Jazz in every sense. Yes I was pissed about Frenzy in every sense. Yes I think Megan Fox is overrated in every sense BUT since this is what Hollywood has to offer & this is what we get. I'm satisfied.
Trust, they pulled no shorts with this movie.. It was talked about then written then talked about more then written more, then talked about again then they wrote the SECOND draft... so just take it easy on them.

The script was terrible. The only good thing about the film were the effects and the fights.

This had nothing to do with the past. It's comparable to Miami Vice. That movie didn't suck because it moved away from the original, it sucked because it was a terrible movie.

I think I've always said the movie was entertaining. But the script was poorly written, the characters were one dimensional, and you could have cut out a lot of the scenes/characters and not changed the action/plot of the movie.

Aside from Bernie Mac's cameo and Shia's performance, how many non-action moments would be considered laudable or even passable? The hacker and Josh Duhamel storylines were superfluous and even some of Shia's scenes were questionable (the now infamous get in the car line). It was a bad script and for the writers to try to blame anyone but themselves is major pea coppage and just plain wrong.

In response to Reply # 0

Or did you want them to take all the story stuff away and just have robots fighting for 2 hours? You have to be joking. this is a summer action flick. this isnt some deep complex art film OR a video game. It had enough story to keep it glued together (Shea is an amazing actor, he did great) and that was enough. It did what i paid for. My definition of failed attempt would have Jamie Kennedy in Shea's place and some made-for-tv visuals. This was fun and exciting. Just what I expected out of a Transformers movie. Not sure what some of you were looking for

In response to Reply # 203

I don't think anyone said that at all.

- They could have trimmed the storylines. There was no need for the Anthony Anderson or the British girl. The film should have been less than two hours IMO.

- They could have given the remaining characters actual personalities. Aside from the personality Shia brought to his role, the other human characters were bland. The Decepticons didn't even have personalities.

- Punch up the dialogue, it was pathetic.

The visuals and the action scenes did what they were supposed to but everything else in the movie seemed like amateur hour. From a story standpoint, its absolutely ridiculous. It's not that it wasn't deep, it wasn't good. It made Armageddon look like Casablanca.

The dialogue has been corny from the get-go w/ Transformers. It's not like the cartoon was on some Shakespearean shit.

There wasnt much character development. It was basically "Deceptions = Evil, Autobots =/= Evil. They must do battle!"

The movie took a corny 80s toy commercial (because lets be honest, thats what the cartoon was) and made it respectable and relevant to a new generation

Starscream had a personality and he and Megatron's relationship was interesting. There was an allusion to it but it was hardly anything. The Decepticons might as well have been the aliens from War of the Worlds; they brought nothing except someone to fight with.

And to say that the cartoon wasn't Shakespeare is silly. Of course it wasn't, but the stories at least made more sense and were paced better.

I didn't even hate the movie but if people are honestly going to defend the screenplay as being anything but 100% hackery, then I think you're defending it just to defend it. It was a big, incredibly dumb action film. I stand by my comparison to Transporter.

You admit it was just a dumb action movie. It wasn't a quality action movie. And personally, I thought there were too many story points. They could have cut most of it out and still kept the action.

In the end, you had minimal expectations. I wasn't expecting much but this thing wasn't even Armageddon. It had entertaining action but could have been a LOT better.

The screen writers should be killed. Or who ever approved this horrible script. Cliche wrapped in cliche. Mofo's hamming it up something terrible. How much comic relief to you need in a movie that is 75% unitentional comedy.

It was pedestrian, hack and well, just fucking bad.

I thought it insulted the intelligence of kids, Young kids. How much can you possibly dumb something down. I left as the credits were rolling. I just didn't care anymore. The cars outside the Arclight were awesome though. That f3500 truck was incredible.

Action - A-
Everything Else - F

That Shia Labouf has got the goods, he won.

Box office destruction aside, this movie was shit. I get it that some people liked it. I didn't hate it, but we all know that movie was flat out awful.

But, if you are a fan of the cartoon, don't expect it to be a live action version of the cartoon. Different story.

he transformed into a starfighter-looking jet, and blasted out of there, then tranformed back. It was only for a couple seconds.

One of the best scenes to me was when Bumblebee was captured. No idea how they pulled off that emotion on a robot's face, but it worked for me, and Shia's acting was stellar as usual.

i saw an interview where he said the only reason he put flames on Optimus Prime was because it "looked bad-ass".

he made the characters so visually complicated because he thought the audience would be bored if they didn't have a lot to look at.

this is the guy they put in charge of $150+ million budgets.

every decep was badass
all the autobots were relatively weak
we missed the bumblebee/barricade fight- and why? so we could see soundwave attacking shia.

why wasnt ironhide more of a badass?
i dont remember megatron being that much stronger then optimus. where was prime and his badass blade during that fight?
devastator a mere tank? they basically wasted what could have been an awesome antagonist for a sequel.

not enough robot for a robot movie, too much military. shiawasgreat though, i liked bumblebee a lot.

246. "The Autobots were always weaker"
In response to Reply # 238

In the original U.S. cartoon line, Autobots were the descendants of a line of robots created as consumer goods by the Quintessons on the planet Cybertron. Their bodies were forged by the Plasma Energy Chamber and given intelligence by the mega-computer Vector Sigma in order for the work to be carried out. Eventually, they developed sentience and rebelled against their creators. However, A-3, the resistance leader was displaced from time by Quintessons from the future in order to stop the insurgency. The resistance had help from future Autobots (whose transformation technology frightened them) and A-3 returned to turn the tide by activating his coda-remote which deactivated the Quintessons' Dark Guardian robots.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autobots

In the original animated series continuity, the Decepticons owe their warlike ways to their faction's origin as military hardware robots, created by the five-faced aliens, the Quintessons, while the Autobots were designed as consumer goods. Following the rebellion that forced the Quintessons off the planet, the Decepticons - as they named themselves - lusting for power, began a civil war. The Autobots could not hope to match the superior firepower and battlefield powers of the Decepticons, and instead turned to stealth, developing the art of transformation, modifying their bodies so that they could assume other forms. With this additional power, the Autobots were able to win the conflict, and a period of peace began, known as the Golden Age of Cybertron, when energy was plentiful and the planet shone with a golden hue.

BKA Eddie Winslow from Family Matters http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0566902/. Where's he been?
Also, one of the soldiers from the beginning of the movie was the dude that played the bully in "Christmas Story" http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0911934/.

Overall I thought it was great for what it's worth. Yeah it was cheesy and times but there was great action, a lot funnier than I expected, and awesome special effects. I'm not sure if you guys were looking for a remake of Season 1 of the cartoon or something. I'm a huge fan of TF and I'm not disappointed at all. You know GI Joe will probably be next

Well shit, I really enjoyed it. Actually, my girlfriend really enjoyed it too.

Of course there were some brutal Michael Bay moments, but I had prepared myself for the worst in that regard.

For sure there was a little too much of the humans at times (ahem, that Josh Dummel dude and Tyrese), but whatever. Shia was great.

The only aspect that really dissappointed me was the lack of time spent on Megatron and Starscream's beef with each other.

C'mon. Some of y'all need to pump your brakes.

I'll admit, I was pretty skeptical at first, based on the commercials, so I wasn't sure if I was going to pay to see it in theaters. But when I kept hearing repeatedly, by word of mouth, how good it is, I figured even if it was overhyped it would at least be decent. So I went to check it out.

the movie exceeded my expectations. I expected the average Michael Bay movie and I think this was the above average Michael Bay movie. Performances were on point for the most part & I didn't expect the movie to be so funny. I mean its a summer popcorn blockbuster movie and it was very entertaining. Yeah, it had some plot holes & dull moments, but for the most part it was a very well-done way to bring some classic iconography into the present. I'm glad they didn't keep it super-locked-into the historical plotlines and came in with a new story that's more relevant to modern times.

The transformers themselves, of course, kicked ass. Visual FX were very well done & everytime something cool happened on screen, all the men in the theater had a shared "guy moment". was great. The theater applauded at the end.

peace

In response to Reply # 261

this could have been a classic movie...an E.T. for a new generation...but instead, it was completely disposable, instantly forgettable, sloppy trash.

i mean, how you fuck up giant robots that turn into cars, i don't know...but leave it to michael bay...

why do we need the hacker subplot? why the iraq subplot? why is every action scene shot by a parkinsons patient having a seizure? why does a shitty little gremlin transformer take up most of the screen time? why does bumblebee get his voice back in the last scene for no reason? why do we waste 45 minutes looking for grandpa's glasses? why do the autobots give the most important object in the universe to a teenage human to protect? why does optimus prime tell sam to stick the allspark in his chest when it's just as easy to stick it in megatron's? why is there a Sambo Autobot? why is the Sambo Autobot the only one to die? why introduce the character of sam's "crazy" friend and never show him again besides a useless cutaway shot? why are the characters so badly overly-designed that we can't tell who's who in the battles?

i'm all about fun popcorn movies...but fun doesn't mean incompetent...and i'm sick of people praising garbage

Again, what did y'all expect? I mean seriously, if any of you have ever seen any Michael Bay movies, you know that you're not going to be blown away by the intellectualism or rich nuances & emotional subtleties of the of the film...displays of fine method acting or complex symbolism & alla that.

ITS A PG-13 SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE ABOUT GIANT TRANSFORMING ROBOTS.

Its not like the source material had some kind of profound philosophical insights on life or was of a particularly high standard of quality...so it stands to reason that an adaptation probably isn't going to become some sort of transcendental experience.

The main reason most of these 80s cartoons have such iconic status now is (a) nostalgic remembrance colored by the fact we were kids ingesting the media (b) connection w/ the merchandising. If you go back and look at the original material, most of it is not really that good by adult standards. The toys were cool as shit though.

As far as the movie, the writing was fine (again, some holes, but very entertaining for the most part) and the camera movement was typical of a big-budget action movie. On the big screen I had no problem following the camera and I didn't think it was overly choppy. I dug the visual look of the film. I'd willingly see it again.

The subplots I thought were relevant and I liked the terrorism angle. Ditto w/ grandpa's glasses. i thought all those things were a good way to tie the humans into the story of the robot war. The decepticons as hostile extraterrestrials that are initially perceived as terrorists worked for me.

I also particularly liked the kid playing Sam, I thought he did a great job performance-wise. His scenes were funny and the subplot w/ the girl worked for me. I liked the soldiers in action too and I didn't expect the film to be as funny as it was.

I think a lot of folks had unrealistically high expectations or maybe were fanboys disappointed that the film didn't exactly mimic the 80s cartoons. As someone else pointed out, that would have been incredibly corny.

peace

it was exactly what it appeared to be on the surface -- light summer entertainment. If you have unrealistic expectations of some sort of soul-enriching cinematic masterpiece, and the film fails to live up to it, then that's on you.

I am quick to categorize a film as bad if warranted. in this case I didn't think it was warranted.

Did you pay to see it in theaters or you downloaded it?

if you paid and thought it was that bad, why sit through the whole thing?

it failed in BASIC FILMMAKING. ya know... like a fucking script that makes sense, interesting dialogue, intentional comedy, coherent camera work...

you like giant robots. i like giant robots. that's cool. and they looked amazing when they were transforming. but there was NOTHING else in this movie worth looking at. and they focused on that other worthless shit for a good chunk of the movie.

i may be way off base, but i'd rather have awesome giant robots AND a good movie at the same time. believe it or not, that's actually possible.

That was a much smaller version of Scorponok... but he never transformed into a robot which would have been nice.. He just kinda' stood there in one place shooting... but if he would have changed.. ooo mama.
& I do believe that Devastator was wasted as hell. Yes he was badass as a tank but honestly I think that CAT could have spent as much money as GM did & they could have had a dumptruck, bulldozer, Crane,... shit!!

how the hell can that happen? devestator and bonecrusher, who just happened to be A FRIGGIN PART OF DEVESTATOR, both died.

but then there are still battlecons and stunticons. there are more then enough characters to mine for more movies, but still. devastator was (at least to me) the best known of the bunch.

oh, and i read they were considering dinobots, which i am not real thrilled to see. i want ultra magnus, or even fortress..

What's all this shit about: "it's a DUMB action movie. I wanted a DUMB action movie. What did you expect?"

Since when are action movies dumb? Action movies might not have the philosophical implications and shit that you like about other movies, but a good action movie still brings a lot of shit to the table. How about understanding of each character's motivations? How about understanding why each character is making certain choices, and why he couldn't or shouldn't make other choices? How about action that is actually entertaining, where characters have to outsmart each other to win?

This movie had none of that.

It wasn't a DUMB action movie. It was a BAD action movie. Stop calling it "dumb", as if that's okay.

Maybe its because I kinda blanked out and just thought about Megan Fox during any of the signal analyst or government scenes, but the movie just seemed to go by alot quicker(it was actually because I was looking forward to certain scenes and just replaying those in my mind....Megan Fox is pretty damn nice though, esp them eyes).

- Action coulda been a bit slower to admire the bells and whistles.
- Some gaping plots holes/movie logic. (I couldn't figure out why Duhamel started rolling with Shia)
- More cars from different brands.

Jazz doing a 1990, nice.
Jazz being Jar Jar Binks, not so nice.

But all in all, worth 10 bucks.

So besides being the worst writing in a movie ever...you mean no one was bothered by BMac's ridiculously minstrel-like performance. For real..."that's my mammy"

Come on I wasn't expecting highbrow entertainment but DAMN!

Before Bernie Mac's Moms flips him the bird he points to her and says "That's my Mammy". Again, for real? In 2007 "That's my Mammy" and then she flips him the bird. I'd rather Black folks be left out of MSM/entertainment (as per usual) if this is the best we can expect.

...he went a long way to pay homage to the original series and movie even though he said he couldn't sit through the the first ten minutes of the original movie.
