"Taken starring Liam Neeson....What's your opinion?"

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/taken/

Personally I thought the movie was really good. I was entertained and that's good enough for me. Late pass me if you will but I don't recall seeing any post about this movie. I was wondering what was the average opinion of this film on here?

...I remember seeing the trailer for this movie last year and I could tell I was gonna enjoy it. I finally caught it a couple of months ago and was thoroughly entertained. To paraphrase what you said in your post; cats on here are reeeaaallly sleeping on a good action flick. I was suprised to not have seen anyone (well, until you posted that link) talking about it. I would recommend Taken to any fan of the action thriller genre.

...a wide release in the theaters over here in the states. I used to be confused for the longest as to why I didn't really hear much about this movie since coming back over here because I have been out of the country for the past few years and that is when I found out about this flick. I didn't know the American audience wasn't really exposed to it, outside of the few movie diggers here and there.

I'm glad to see it will finally be exposed to more cats over here. I truly think the movie is entertaining. I don't want to make it seem like the 2nd coming of Christ or anything but in my opinion, it is truly enjoyable.

That broad was annoying. I normally don't condone hittin' women but I woulda understood if ol' boy woulda two pieced her for her stupidity.

i gotta say, when Liam shot the french dude's wife... that was some of the most bad ass shit ive seen in a long time.

i love how as the movie progresses he gets so much more violent... the action paces the movie to its climax.

....I love the fact that the main character wasn't someone who was getting beat up and kicked around all throughout the movie. I wanted a movie where the enraged father gave the bad guys the business and that's what I got. This movie was very satisfying.

....but that type of thing never stopped PTP from talking about a movie before. To be fair, I was out of the country for 2 & 1/2 years, so I was out of the loop a lot of times as to what was going on here in the states. I wasn't sure if Taken was released in the U.S. but since I was seeing previews online and on certain bootlegs, I assumed that it did. That was the reason why I was wondering why I haven't seen any posts about the movie on here. Hell, I didn't even see the previews that you see on tv now until after I made the original post.

...he wasn't some uber-macho, damn near cartoony styled action hero spouting out bad pun after bad pun if that's what you're trying to avoid. His character was hard though and he did manhandle cats with ease. The movie didn't go overboard with the gunplay but they are used. If you're a fan of action flicks, then I believe you won't be disappointed.

I have watched it like 8 times now...

Poppin dudes wife in the arm....unpreditable

Torturing the albanian dude....pretty good

Putting 6 into dude in the elevator.....priceless

at times Liam looked like Al Bundy lol but he played a pretty good role.

I wish he would have shot the horse dude bought his daughter.

He missed the oppurtunity to bang the Sheenah or whatever that singers name is.

I wonder if the French dudes wife accepted the apology

watch this a second time around how hilarious some of the fighting scenes are. I might have to this in a theater to bust out laughing at some of the better fight scenes. Very good flick. Rare to see a straight beat em up flick. I have a feeling it will bomb at the box office.

First off dude did look a little bit like Al Bundy and he wasnt a good father(when the daughter was young) lol this was like the Married with Children I always dreamed they would make.

Anyhoo where to begin. All the great points have been touched upon

- Liam shooting the guy's wife in the arm. One word WOW

- Liam telling Marco in no small words "you know you done fucked up right?"

- Liam shooting the guy in the elevator like 6 times. Popped that nigga menance 2 society o'dog style

- Liam making the guy stab himself with his knife and then kneeing it deeper into dude's stomach

and of course the end the fat guy at the end who had his daughter all grabbed up "We Can...*POP*" right thru the head.

FUCKING AWESOME MOVIE

I kinda wish that Jabba would've got dealt with in a worse manner. Similar to the way the "photographer" got dealt with by the semi

This was a fun flick that needs to be seen on the big screen with a packed house. The crowd reaction to the ass kickin adds to the enjoyment.

Liam was dishin out some major L's in this flick. He did not fuck around. January might be 1 of the dumping ground seasons but this is the exception. Not just another mindless action flick. Had the smarts to go along with some great fights. Maggie Grace is one to watch for. And Liam is officially on the bad ass list. I'll be seeing this one again soon. Glad it lived up to the hype & great teaser/trailer.

Yes, the film doesn't make sense. Yes, the villains should probably know that the guy speaking english isn't really a French policeman. Yes, the villains are laughably bad shots and miss Lian Neeson even though they are right next to him.

But WHO THE FUCK CARES?!

WOW, this movie was an old school no holds barred beat the shit out of the bad guys and then shoot 'em for good measure flick. There's one scene in particular that I'm already calling will be one of the top 10 scenes of the year.

Wow. My blood is racing after that. Yes, I can't really even think of adjectives because I'm just typing WOW! over and over.

On a calmer note, did they do the Benjy Button effect on Maggie Grace? She looks like 10 years younger in the movie.

But more importaantly WOW!

...I didn't watch this movie expecting to have a life changing experience. I didn't watch it expecting to see a metaphor for American politics or social commentary. I watched the movie for one reason, I wanted to see crooks catching the wrong end of the foot and the fist and this movie delivered that and more.

Sometimes, I just want to see dudes gettin' their ish rocked, no more, no less. You're right, this movie falls into the lineage of the 80's action flick. No fancy CGI bullet effects, no wire & harness styled fighting, just balls to the wall action. I'm not saying I don't like the fancy tricks used in today's action joints but it's nice to see a good straight to the point, beat 'em up flick.

Couldn't disagree more. Liam's voice & delivery added a lot to my enjoyment of the movie & can't be matched by just anyone. Espcially not a bum like Segal. That pony tail aint convincing. It wasn't just the action that made this movie great.

So was I! It was fun seeing him fuck shit up

>but it's definitely not a good movie.

There were a few plot holes or maybe some things that didn't make perfect sense that I might pick up on a second viewing but it was still a good movie. Was it perfect? Naw. But that doesn't mean it wasn't good.

>Neeson's character has all the dramatic range of an android.

What kind of range was he supposed to show besides showing love for his daughter & malice towards the bad guys?

I loved the film but couldn't bring myself to give it more than 3.5 stars out of 5 because it was just SO ridiculous.

I'd still recommend it highly to people who like 80's action films but it's technically not a "quality" film. It's an amazing genre film though.

i'll give him that.

but he's really just gravely-voicing it through the whole thing.

what scenes do you think he brought something unique to? the only one that required any acting were when he was on the phone with his daughter during the kidnapping and when he busted in on the bad guys, posing as the government official.

i didn't hate the movie, but i don't think it would've been any worse with a generic action star in it.

It's not a scene by scene thing. The entire flick he was convincing in that role. I felt that he'd do anything for his daughter. If it was Segal I'd only feel he'd do anything to punch the next guys lights out. He was convincing as an ex gov't "preventer". He showed some smarts the way he set up that scene on the roof, the way he drove the whip causing diversions along the way, & just the overall way he went about fucking everybody up.

Most generic action stars come across pretty corny to me so it would've been worse with someone like Segal at the helm. They showed a trailer for a new Cena flick that didn't look too shabby tho.

I'm normally not a fan of this genre so I dont see a lot of the so called laughably over the top shitty action movies. Maybe its just like the rest of em & I've been missin out all along. Adding an actual established Oscar nominated actor to the genre is what convinced me to give this one a shot & I'm glad I did.

Even though he's done action flicks before, he's not the likeliest candidate for this kind of role and I think that's what made it so great. I won't go so far as to say he gave the role any 'depth' but something about him being in this movie is just enough of a curveball to make things interesting.

But man, the movie itself? SUCH a straight to video B movie. It would not surprise me AT ALL to find out the script had been sitting in a file cabinet for the past 15 years under the working title 'Commando 2: Even Squintier'

that fat albanian dude sitting at the table just inside the entrance to the red house. dude was grilling liam crazy. i was waiting for dude to get popped.

that whole scene was ill. i was thinking, "there's 5 dudes in this room, another 6 downstairs, get the info and bounce." liam was like, "yo fam, remember that shit you said on the phone."

notice he kept the euros he checked from them.

Loved the look on dude's face when Liam was like "Do you remember me from the phone two days ago. I told you I'd find you."
The "oh shit" face he gave was priceless.

to make it worse, it seems like she's running in every scene she's in. i found it pretty funny that the actress' name is maggie GRACE. shit was not graceful in the least.

actually though, i wonder if maggie purposely ran like that to make it seem like she was still an awkward 17 year old instead of her real life 25.

Entertainment Weekly

(Entertainment Weekly) -- With an unexpectedly big gross of $24.6 million, according to Sunday's early estimates, Liam Neeson's kidnapping thriller "Taken" was the easy victor at the box office on this Super Bowl weekend.
Liam Neeson stars in 20th Century Fox's "Taken," which debuted at No. 1 this weekend.

Liam Neeson stars in 20th Century Fox's "Taken," which debuted at No. 1 this weekend.

That's a particularly impressive feat for a male-baiting film whose key audience has had plenty of distractions during this national football holiday frame. To be sure, the movie drew an A- CinemaScore review from a crowd that was nearly three-fifths men and 70 percent over the age of 25 -- an almost exact mirror of the big game's core demographic.

For Neeson, who hasn't starred in a major Hollywood release since 2005's "Batman Begins" and "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" (to which he lent his voice), this is a nice turn of events, indeed: The $24.6 million premiere is the fifth best of his career, and, really, the top debut ever for a flick featuring him as a solo lead star.

Certainly, "Taken's" weekend sum could decrease slightly after the Super Bowl is played tonight and the actual final Friday-to-Sunday box office figures are calculated, but the film has no chance of falling out of first place. That's because its next closest competitor was two-time champ "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," which brought in $14 million and fell to No. 2. With $83.4 million in the bank to date, the Kevin James comedy is basically assured of becoming the first 2009 release to gross $100 million.
Don't Miss

* EW.com: Box office chart

"The Uninvited" (No. 3) was next, with a decent $10.5 million -- exactly the kind of first-weekend number that all Asian horror remakes seem to get these days. "Hotel for Dogs" (No. 4 with $8.7 million) and "Gran Torino" (No. 5 with $8.6 million) rounded out the top five. (At $110.5 million and counting, "Gran Torino" is now the top-grossing movie of Clint Eastwood's career.)

And the other big new release, the Renee Zellweger comedy "New in Town" -- the kind of female-friendly counterprogramming that studio bigwigs typically expect to do well on weekends like this -- got little love at No. 8, earning just $6.8 million.

Among Best Picture nominees, "Slumdog Millionaire" once again fared best, banking $7.7 million at No. 6, while all the others fell outside of the top 10 (i.e. they all banked less than about $3.7 million a piece). That result is a tad disappointing for "The Reader" and "Milk," as both movies expanded somewhat wide this weekend (they grossed $2.4 million and $1.4 million, respectively).

Overall, the cumulative box office was essentially flat with the same frame a year ago, when the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus concert film came out of nowhere to be the big winner. Just like the Arizona Cardinals will do tonight.

Very good movie. Only problem I had with it was that he didn't get a scratch until 95% of the movie was over.

(1) Dude was too perfect for most of the movie.
(2) There was no true balance to all the bad shit he did to get his daughter back. True, his enemies were a bunch of bastards. However, he was doing too much willy nilly as he felt.

Everything that didn't involve Liam kicking ass was pretty terrible. Actually the present wrapping scene at the beginning was pretty cool because it foreshadowed what a tunnel visioned meticulous psychopath we were dealing with.

and not in a shock posting way either. who gives a fuck that it was predictable and that there were better movies?

THIS SHIT WAS AWESOME. And not just in a Liam kicking ass kind of way. You guys do realize that following a formula to perfection is hard, right? You realize that it involves getting every part of the production--director, cinematographer, every actors, make up, EVERYONE--on the same page?

And to do it all in 90 minutes is just a miracle of screenwriting. NO ONE makes tight scripts any more. everyone is just trying to fill two hours. this had all of the good parts--character development, feeling, intrigue, ass kicking--and almost zero boring exposition. questo once said that he wasn't able to write something as efficient as "summer in the city." this is the summer in the city of action flicks.

i could go on and on.

Not only is she old for the role (then again, what "teenagers" in Hollywood aren't) but she added nothing and probably cost more than just some random teenage actress.

Liam was on some Jack Bauer/Jason Bourne go HARD never-say-die shit. It was just on this side of the ridiculous line, with all the chops to the throat, one shot kills and whatnot. But I enjoyed the fuck out of it.

It probably wouldn't have worked with, say, Statham in it (although I would have been amused to see his take), but I'd rank it along with, say, The Professional if pressed..

Had the flu over the weekend so got to watch this finally. Man,it did not disappoint with the totally impossible comedy. Lets see...

when he strolls up into the Albanian's place and starts pretending to be the new police contact, producing a card with Jean-Claude on it, there is no questioning why the new French security chief is speaking with an Americanized Northern Irish accent, even with the most stereotypically French name ever?

The total lack of giving a shit about the other kidnapped prostitutes was great. As was the bodycount that didn't seem to have any basis in reality. How are you going to kill a sheikh, on a boat, and still leave the country a-okay?

When he goes to meet the real Jean Claude and he rigs the phone thing, which physically I still can't make sense of in my mind (how does this phone thing remotely answer itself?), they bust onto the rooftop and see this walkie talkie/cell phone contraption and look around like "DAMN!" but we, the audience, can plainly see this one dude standing on a church belfry not 3 buildings away. Nearsighted than a mother fucker in the Parisian police department.

How all the french people are carrying around baguettes.

A busted late 80s jeep Cherokee beasting a brand new Mercedes M class.

We never find out what happens to the chick that he rescued; did he kill her after she told him about the safe house?

Waiting till the kids are put to bed and THEN shooting the dudes wife in the arm.

And the random horrible ending shot at some popstar (I guess?) home recording thing...man...I was hoping he got shot or arrested at the end, but nope...he just went and saw some Cheetah Girls chick with his dumbfuck daughter.

His exwife is hot. There will be a Taken 2, Electric Boogaloo. And it will be even more hilarious.

I'm shocked at the amount of positive feedback. This movie is one of the shittiest movie I've ever seen. I like action but not like that! It was wack from the first to the last scene. I watched the whole thing only because I wanted to see how much worse the movie could get. In that, it entertained me.
