"Hancock"

Was wet hot ass. Horrible Plot, bad editing, just seemed rushed. Will Smith is the saving grace of the movie but his best parts are all in trailer. Huge disappointment.

He's clearly an excellent actor, so the whole
"He can't act" think never works.

Instead, we tend to get:

"He was good, but he inserted himself in the role
too much. He needs to adapt the roles better."

I remember niggas was in here talking about
"Oh my gawwd, 'I am Legend' was soooooo
unrealistic."

Hahaha

>He's clearly an excellent actor, so the whole
>"He can't act" think never works.

it depends on what you mean by excellent actor, and that's on the real.

can will act? sure.

is he an "excellent actor? in terms of him being a hip-hop star turned actor, you betcha.

but he's is a great actor in the sense of, say, laurence fishburne?

oh hell no.

let's not lose perspective here. will is naturally glib, and has mad presence. he's basically eddie murphy times two; the guy that adlibs all through his lines because he can get away with it.

but in terms of pure and sheer acting ability, will's been exposed, pal.

jamie tore him a new one in "ali". and let's not even talk about "baggar vance". *yikes!*

hancock is right up his alley. as long as will does films like these he's fine.

but he won't be pushing don cheadle out the door for pure acting ability anytime soon.

This character is different than his typical persona (the Hitch/Mike Lowry smooth guy). Pursuit of Happiness was a breakthrough that people have been expecting since Six Degrees of Separation. Not to mention that (even though I wasn't a huge fan of the film itself) I Am Legend showed he could carry a movie literally by himself.

Will Smith rarely takes roles that force him to stretch his range. While it might not be great for an actor, that's what you pretty much need to do as a movie star. He's had a brilliantly managed career (and yes, he had a lull but nobody is perfect).

Will is a very good actor. He's not Brando but very few people are.

-Carefully choosing roles?

Check

-Imposing his persona into his roles?

Check

-Managing his career, very carefully?

Check

The only difference is that Will does blockbusters
and Hanks does more dramas.

Will was damn good in Ali, Jamie ain't do shit. Will was definitely better in Ali than Denzel was in Training Day. Training Day was far better than Ali as a movie, but Will's acting was much better than Denzel's. And also, Will in Ali>>>>>Jamie in Ray.

will in "ali" trumps jamie in "ray"?

please...

not in this lifetime, or the next...

will's a great character presence, and he picks his roles that play to his strengths carefully.

but a dramatic actor he's not.

Will's performance in Ali was Oscar-worthy, imo. He basically made me look at him as if he was Ali, and not Will, he played him so well.

I don't know how you can say he's not a dramatic actor after Ali, Happyness, and I Am Legend.

What has Jamie done that's so great outside of Ray? Nothing that's seeing Will's dramatic roles.

Will can act. I'm really surprised people are still going this route after his last few films. Two Oscar noms for acting and the guy still isn't a dramatic actor? He might not always choose those roles but I think he's shown that he can handle them.

And here's one of the positive reviews:
"Hancock is horrendously disjointed and barely manages to tell a story, but I was delighted by its charisma and Will Smith's unexpected middle-finger timing."

I'm still going to see it anyway. The concept is interesting and I've liked most of Peter Berg's films. Definitely lowering my expectations but after Indiana Jones IV and Wanted, I can't imagine Hancock could lower the bar any more.

WHAT????? Wanted was great.... it included all aspects of the great film, action, great plot (with twists), comedy, and love/romance.... it is truly a underdog -> hero story...... before you judge a great piece of cinema.... be able to back it up

Unlike a lot of people, I didn't even have an issue with the weaver of god (or whatever that was). That didn't bother me.

To start off, I was annoyed by McAvoy from the first action scene so that was a huge issue. The training portion of the movie dragged beyond belief. I almost walked out because it felt like it lasted an hour (and really, nothing was happening. He wasn't really learning anything or growing). The action scenes were boring to me; it was like watching someone else play a video game.

The twists were just silly, if not wholly predictable. The story was point-by-point formulaic with absolutely nothing new which usually isn't an issue but in this case they would move on to the next cliche even if it didn't make sense. The kid realizes he's being hunted by an assassin and what does he do? Goes back to work. Really?

Not to mention little bits like when the one team member dies, they have to throw in a line saying "What's he doing here?" because the guy had no reason whatsoever to be there.

It was a b-action movie. I can understand that some people could sit back and enjoy it but spare me on the "great cinema" BS.

I'm not really expecting anything. It's just Will Smith and a cool concept. I kinda gave up on Will giving us a GREAT movie all around. It's always something missing or it's too much. All I know is that this movie is getting $15 of my money this weekend. I'll enjoy this nonetheless.

The movie seemed to slowly bleed my interest until I was checking the time by the end.

I thought all of the principals performed well, visually it worked well, but the story was basically flat beyond the initial premise.

Cool little cameo by Mike Epps in the early credits.

i first can say i give two shits if a lot of people and critics enjoy or love a particular movie, artist, or album. 17 millon people bought the massacre and get rich or die trying, and both those albums are trash and critics praised them. yet, most of the time i agree with peter tavers and rodger ebert.

as for Iron Man, it was full of capitalist pomp and U.S. military agression, typical in hollywood movies. I felt Robert Downey Jr. was comedy to watch and not in the way most of the critics were praising him for. the movie was not engaging, the stgory line was under-developed and the story line between his and gwyenth paltrow was completely predictable. i do believe the CGI was great, yet the last fight scene was underwhelming. and in all honesty i feel trying to complicate the moral and ethics behind the character profiteering off militarism and than trying to make a turn for the better, was just silly. leave the psychological exlporations to DC comics. i hate hollywood celluloid like this to the enth degree and at least the rampant isreali-ism of Zohan made me laugh. blade wasnt a super hero movie in my mind either.

all yall can suck it easy

But fuck it, I was entertained.

I can see how people are hating on the film. It was one of the worst constructed stories I've seen on screen in a long time. It was like the first hour was the pilot episode of a series and then they tried to cram the rest of the series into the last half an hour. The guy who wrote the original script must be annoyed since it's nothing like the original screenplay (then again, that sounded like it was pretty brooding and probably never would have been made).

Very light

Some serious scenes, but its a B movie.

It just happens to be funny and charming and
entertaining.

Its also NICE AND SHORT

Doesn't waste our time with awkward, dumbass
scenes

Doesn't try to do too much

Not too mushy

But not icy either

Well done, overall.

Its about as serious as 'Men in Black'.

Its not even as serious as 'Independence Day'.

Light, goofy, fun. Slightly more crass than is
appropriate for a child film, but it definitely
has 'B Movie' tone

They didn't set out to make 'The English Patient'.

They set out to make the film that is on the
silver screen.

Wasn't supposed to get oscars. Supposed to get that
paper.

And it will.

Will will.

And you mad about that.

It's not backtracking. It's clarifying. I haven't changed my stance, I just didn't express it accurately.

Also, a movie not being serious does not make it a b-movie. You have no idea what you're talking about. People are calling Hancock a character study. You can not have a character study b-movie. You should do what I did and realize that what you said doesn't accurately represent what you mean, and find a new way to say it.

And, finally, what makes you think I'm mad about this movie making money? What have I ever said or done that gives you the impression that I care about Will making money or not? Shove that hit dog shit up your ass. I haven't even seen the movie. I could llike it just like you did. I wasn't commenting on the movie, I was commenting on your stupid plea-copping review.

I don't care what *people* are calling it. *People*
are slamming it on Rotten tomatoes. Critics, who allegedly
know what they are talking about, at that.

And by my definition, that no one can seem to properly
debate, it most certainly is a B movie.

>And, finally, what makes you think I'm mad about this movie

How about the nonsensical bullshit that you've posted

>I could llike it just like you did. I wasn't commenting on the

No, my "review" was perfectly rationale: I was saying
that it was very light, tongue in cheek humor, was very
short, and did an excellent job of not taking itself too
seriously. This was a compliment because Hancock was the
type of story that the WRONG director or writer would have
DEFINITELY tried to make too sanctimonious or dramatic. It
has the elements in place. Wisely, the creative team decided
to KEEP THE FILM'S TONE closer to that of 'MEN IN BLACK' than
even 'Independence Day(which was silly itself)'. That is
ultimately what made 'Hancock' a success:

-Nice and short

-No dumb, awkward scenes

-No force fed message

The creative team deserves credit for this, because
that film could have EASILY been ruined by an
overly ambitious director.

^^^You see, I actually make sense.

The problem is, you're a furious, rambling bitch
who hasn't seen the movie.

That, my friend, is the cause of our squabble.

Every single person replying to you is telling you that you have no idea what a b-movie is, but you refuse to care, and just keep trudging ahead with your idiocy.

You like a movie that most people don't. You don't have to come up with stupid reasons to convince people why they should like it, too.

And, again, I've stated no personal opinion of the movie. I was excited about it until the reviews came out. And yes, I can mostly trust Rotten Tomatoes. When you've got dozens of people professionally reviewing and end up with an average, you can mostly tell if you're gonna like it or not, based off of what the gripes are. The gripes about Hancock are consistent.

You just refuse to believe that folks can not like something because it sucks. You're the dude that can't accept others' opinions as honest, so instead you insert bullshit into why you think other people don't like something, when you don't know those people at all. You say that people are judging a movie unfairly, but you're claiming things about actual people, calling people names and shit.

You are the one that's fucked up with it.

Anyways, if you set out to make an A-movie, and end up with a b-movie, that's a failure. Straight up.

The only debate in here is about MY DEFINITION of a
B-Movie, which I have clarified and stand by. Again,
my definition takes more thought, and gives more credit to
movies than the standard criteria. I gave a lucid account
of EXACTLY WHAT I MEANT. Instead of READING WHAT I WROTE,
you hopped, incorrectly on the 'B Movie' red herring, to
your doom.

And you still haven't seen the movie.

Very light film.

I know you guys are thinking 'B Movie' in the 80s

so when you say "b-movie" you just mean something "light" in tone, as opposed to traditional "oscar fare"?

yeah, i've never seen it used like that

when ppl say b-movie they usually mean low-budget genre films (western, sci-fi, horror, gangster, kung-fu, blaxploitation, high school sex comedy) featuring c-list actors in the leads, that sort of come + go in theaters and pick up a cult following over time

something like hostel, saw, grindhouse, american pie, those tyrese/ja rule LA gang flicks that go straight to dvd, etc etc

that's why the shit threw me off -- i'm like "hancock wasn't that @ all, not even in spirit"

My definition actually gives them more credit, since
it acknowledges that the B movie flavor is difficult to
create and is the product of creative vision, rather than
just a lack of resources or good actors.

And again, gives more credit to good filmmakers
for creating enjoyable tone that treads the line
between realism and fantasy, leads to films that
can be watched at any time, in several settings,
without scenes that are awkward or misplaced.

Its actually quite valid.

not that you're right or wrong:

---

The term B movie originally referred to a motion picture made on a low or modest budget and intended for distribution as the less-publicized, bottom half of a double feature during the so-called Golden Age of Hollywood. Although the U.S. production of movies intended as second features largely ceased by the end of the 1950s, the term B movie continues to be used in a broader sense, referring to any low-budget, commercial motion picture meant neither as an arthouse film nor as pornography. In its post–Golden Age usage, there is ambiguity on both sides: on the one hand, many B movies display a high degree of craft and aesthetic ingenuity; on the other, the primary interest of many inexpensive exploitation films is prurient. In some cases, both are true.

In either usage, most B movies represent a particular genre—the Western was a Golden Age B movie staple, while low-budget science-fiction and horror films became more popular in the 1950s. Early B movies were often part of series in which the star repeatedly played the same character. Almost always shorter than the top-billed films they were paired with, many had running times of 70 minutes or less. The term connoted a general perception that B movies were inferior to the more handsomely budgeted headliners; individual B films were often ignored by critics. Latter-day B movies still sometimes inspire multiple sequels, but series are less common. As the average running time of top-of-the-line films increased, so did that of B pictures. In its current usage, the term has two primary and somewhat contradictory connotations: it may signal an opinion that a certain movie is (a) a genre film with minimal artistic ambitions or (b) a lively, energetic film uninhibited by the constraints imposed on more expensive projects and unburdened by the conventions of putatively "serious" independent film.

---

now according to THAT, your statement that a major component of a B Movie is lightheartedness, is somewhat correct. But I think if we go by the textbook definition, "Hancock" isn't a B-movie if for no other reason than the budget, and the fact that it has TWO A-Listers in it, who probably commanded between 10 and 15 million each in salary.

Which is crap. It's like folks that say "hiphop" is artists that they like, and "rap" is artists they don't like.

Being able to watch a movie at any time and enjoy it is a quality thing, not just a tone.

Your definition isn't smarter just because you like it, and it's not smarter than the people in the industry that created the term, and have used it for years. A definition can't be smarter, anyway. It can be more accurate, though. Yours is not.

What an unbelievably horrifying analogy.

Motherfucka,

There are terrible 'B Movies'. The
fact that they are bad doesn't change the fact that
they did fit a genre of film.

Hell, I don't like 'Robin Hood: Men In Tights'. It
was stupid. It most certainly was, however, a satire/parody
comedy.

So no, you're wrong.

Then I can see how you'd say that. I mean, not really, okp's like to exacerbate from time to time.......most of the time.

honestly its something that I don't like in people in general but something I love about this site...Seeing people so high off of their own opinions keeps me sharp an objective with out being too argumentative.

but I digress.

I was surprised at how good this movie was. At first i griped about all of the character development, but then realised that that's what the story was about. it wasn't an action flick, not a love story or anything like that. this was a movie about a superhero in the real world, who's actually miserable that he's the only one of his kind.

it's the story of (insert name of Bruce Willis character here) had he the power of superman. I think that's a good re-look at the action hero genre.

it's transformers

it's cloverfield

it's a movie for people who can decide whether or not they like the movie AFTER they've seen it.

When I watch a movie, read a book, or listen to an album, I don't wait until the end to "decide" if I like it or not. I either enjoy it when I'm immersed in it, or I don't. Afterwards is not for deciding whether you like something. Afterwards is for dissecting WHY you enjoyed it or not.

I think most people walk into a movie hoping to enjoy it. When it fails to do so, they come in here and vent.

Now fans of the movie can't handle anyone not agreeing with them so they make up a complaint that people are expecting too much or wanted to hate the movie. Therein lies the problem.

^^^ Uh, ?uest, was that a misprint?

Actually, The Big Twist wasn't the problem at all.

The problem for me, as Longo feared, was Peter Berg's direction.

This isn't the movie for all of the handheld shit, Peter.

Anyway, I'll stop there before some of you start throwing more temper tantrums about "thinking too hard" and "it's a summer movie, not a Oscar contenderr!" and all that other pile-on, let's-argue-just-to-argue coonetry that you like to take part in...

Will Smith could announce that his next project will be a Uwe Boll-directed, 4-hour reading of the Scientology "bible," and I will be there opening day. The guy just is a MOVIE STAR. Initially, it felt like his performance was going to be a variation on Mike Lowrey from the Bad Boys movies -- hey, let's see what would happen if Marcus Burnett got killed, Lowrey got thrown out of the Miami police force, moved to L.A., and became a homeless drunk! -- but he added something to the performance, especially in the scenes where he's trying to impart the P.R. lessons he's learned... it would have been nice to see more of that.

Jason Bateman brought the earnestly-square-white-dude funny. "Did you land hot?" had me rolling. I liked that we saw him fail at pitching his P.R. solution to a company... we're on board when he sees an opportunity to rehab Hancock, because we saw him TRYING (and it also helped that his pitch was on the benevolent side). See, that's the difference between wanting to see this guy succeed here, as opposed to not caring whether or not James McAvoy succeeds in Wanted.

Charlize is about to take the White Heavyweight Champion™ crown from Biel. Just a side note. Anyway, it had to have been tough for her to pretty much sit on her hands for the first 2/3 of the movie, since she's really given nothing to play up to the final 3rd, except to glare repeatedly at Hancock and serve meatballs to the kid... I mean, if you didn't know what The Big Twist was going in, you'd surely know it based off of the many shots of Mary glaring nastily at Hancock, with Berg holding on her nasty glares a few seconds after Hancock and Ray have exited the scene, just in case you didn't get that Something's Up With Her And This Guy.

And in addition to the problematic Peter Berg-let's-shoot-every-fucking-thing-in-close-up-and-handheld style choice, the film felt rushed, especially after The Big Twist. It would have been nice to see another 5-10 minutes seeing how Hancock, Ray, and Mary deal with this newly-discovered love triangle. Settle down, I said 5-10 minutes. That's all that was needed. But no, we have to get to the prison break and the robbery and the shooting and... all... that... shit... in the hospital.

For me, THAT'S the point where the movie went off the rails. It felt like we left a "four-quadrant" comedy (yeah, I know) and stepped into the missing first reel "prologue" of I Am Legend. I actually wasn't pissed that the movie went from this edgy comedy to a domestic comedy to a dark action thriller. Well, at least I wasn't until we got to that third genre.

But who cares, right? We're not there to see The Oscars performances, we're there to not think too hard, right? Right. That said, I'm going to bottom-line the critique anyway. It's a nice movie for about 2/3 of it, then it gets strange at the hospital, with Charlize's Big Backstory Monologue and the goofy-ass shootout with the prison escapees. The good far outweighs the bad.

I'll add that I'm looking forward to Netflixing the inevitable "Unrated" version later this year. Maybe we'll get more Mike Epps riffing? More cussin'? Charlize nekkid? Let's hope so.

It was funny, the action was good, and the plot was not weak like a lot of the reviews are saying. Fuck the reviews, though, because they said Wanted was good and it was average at best. Hancock beats the shit out of it.

The Mike Epps cameo at the end was funny and I was pleasantly surprised with 'Here I Come' off Game Theory came on when the credits rolled.

The movie was thoroughly enjoyable, I don't understand the hate. I think Will's been having too much success for some people's liking.

...I felt the film could have been longer and could have been toned down a little bit towards the end. It could have used a little bit more drama because the end definitely felt rushed. Still better than "I Am Legend" and "The Pursuit Of Happyness", imo. Will ain't done just yet, haters.

hancock gets about an 8 out of 10. now, i say that because i'm an action junkie and at the end i was kinda waiting for a "Bigger" fight but i enjoyed what i watched and i think that's what most people miss in film.

They should've shown hancock doing regular stuff as well. If they can show him drinking how come they cannot show him at Burger King?

I'M GOING TO SPOIL A COUPLE THINGS BELOW SO STOP READING NOW.

How could dude not know his wife had super strength? When they were procreating dude must have worn armor (assuming she was invincible).

The funniest part of the movie was Hancock trying to test out her abilities.

The kid was a product of Ray's first marriage, which I believe ended when she died

Sexual relations between the two of them is an interesting topic, though

And it appeared to be covered more in-depth in Vincent Ngo's original script... I believe that's one of the reasons it was called Tonight, He Comes

when they ate and dranks it was pretty normal, so why would "relations" be any different. It's not like sex requires superhuman acrobatics. If she could do something as delicate as cook meatballs, why wouldn't she be able to "turn it down a notch" in the sack.

(this isn't directed at you, but I'm merely answering all the "how'd he not know his wife was a superhero, she must have Super Tits, right?!?!?" people.)

I hate the whole "told u so" thing:

but I told you cats when I AM LEGEND came out that will smith was the most bankable and VERSATILE movie star (MOVIE STAR NOT "ACTOR") ever:

If hancock does 100 mil, he will have the most consecutive 100 million dollar movies under his belt. Also, his 100 million dollar movies have spanned across more genres than any other actor ever, check IMDB if you have doubts/hate.

all of these things are FACTS.

that thread that was started has been deleted by the mods due to editing of the topic and one of them having to apologize to me after...well we know why they apologized, no need to air dirty laundry.

but please, keep the emo-will smith hippie-hate fest going. I'm bored at work.

The first post is a review of the script that was rewritten by Vincent Ngo and Vince Gilligan

The second post (mine) is a link to a .pdf of the draft of the initial script (minus page 125) that Vincent Ngo wrote by himself. It's a pretty dark and nasty script, but I think it's a really good read...

I'm starting to think that this current version of Hancock is mostly Vince Gilligan's, especially the first half with the interactions between Ray and Hancock...

Up to this point, Ngo has refused to comment on this version of Hancock, saying only that he's going to build a Vietnamese school with some of the Hancock script money...

White people never need a great reason to hate on
black people.

And the hate can come overnight.

And the hate come reign down on black people
who are allegedly accepted and successful
already.

Not saying that this has anything to do with
Will Smith and 'Hancock', but don't be a naive
dick about it.

What point are you inventing to argue against?

Obviously lots of white people love Jay-Z, or he
wouldn't have been invited in the first place.

Fortunately, no part of my argument was that all, or
most white people hate Jay-Z. You'd know that if you
weren't a furious, rambling fag.

My point was a very simple one: MERELY BEING
POPULAR and WELL RESPECTED BY WHITES does not
absolve black people from being HATED ON BY
OTHER WHITES.

I mean, Oprah got racially fucked with in Europe,
for god's sakes.

Oprah.

It was a basic, simple point, not to mention the
fact that I SAID in my post that the Jay-Z
example might have nothing to do with HANCOCK.

I'm debating the GRANDER argument made. Not the
one specific to Jay-Z analogy.

White people can and will hate on anything, at any
time, regardless of who the individual being hated on is,
regardless of what their status is:

And so your original argument, that white people
wouldn't hate on Will Smith NOW because they would
have done so a long time ago is invalid; just like the
Jay-Z example, there are no black people, of any status,
immune to irrational hate, and high dosages of it.

Its actually very sensible.

The problem is that I overestimated your intelligence,
which I apologize for.

In what part of my post did I suggest that all white
people hate Jay-Z?

I'm saying that DESPITE HIS BEING WIDELY ACCEPTED
AND LIKED, that DIDN'T and DOESN'T PREVENT HIM FROM
from being ROUTINELY hate on(at least
in part)because of his race(I know the Gallagher et al
situation was more complicated, but you'd have a hard
time convincing me, or Jay-Z, that race had nothing
to do with it).

Furthermore, in the SAME POST I said it had nothing
to do with 'Hancock'.

You're right when you say that there are whites who don't need a great reason to hate on black people, it's just that Jay-Z at Glastonbury and Venus Williams are obscure and unfounded examples of it.

LOL.

"Obscure?"

And neither are unfounded.

Both are individuals at or near the top of their
respective crafts who STILL accumulate criticism
and hatred that is still at least in part influenced
by racism.

Again - I'm just overestimating your intelligence.

I'll apologize for that, if you apologize for your
existing on earth.

When you have nothing else to say, bring intelligence into question.

As I've said elsewhere, the criticisms of Jay and Venus reflect only a small amount of people. The majority do not resent them, making your claims obscure and unfounded.

Thought it sort of fell apart towards the end, even though I didn't hate the twist. A perfectly entertaining summer action flick, no Iron Man but better than Indiana Jones.

And yes, Charlize did look good.

this is one of the few times where I actually agree with the reviews. the first half of the movie is dope, it feels like it's headed in the right direction, all the comedy is on point, the action scenes are ill, the will/jason, will/charlize relationships seem like they're gonna be fun to watch throughout the movie, etc.. but that whole second half, like from the time he got out of prison to the end, the movie feels rushed and weak. the explanation for why hancock is hancock and all that was weak as hell. "i am legend" had the same problems to me, dope ass first half, weak ass finish.

Overall I enjoyed it. Bateman and Will were funny together and the twist was cool. I think it is hard to pull off a superhero movie that is not based on a comic, but they pulled it off.

we got a hit?

So you know the whole black folks as alien motif in literature, then you add the old passing tale: "one has assimilated into white life" fears being outed does whatever she can to hide her "dark secret" and black man sacrifices.

With that shit out the way, the movie was going well until the unbelievable

So she just has this fly ass super hero outfit for ocassions. Does she knows where he stays because he's hancock..they have some type of emotional GPS? He's been in LA for years why didn't he start losing shit, didn't they live in LA for awhile?

So the guys who get beat down, link up with a SHOCKER, some white supremacist lite redneck (a flashback to the bigots who beat up will in 1853? or 1928 with a claw and two escaped convicts mosey into the hospital with the worlds superhero, with ease. Also he's a superhero but only works in LA?

i still dont hate it, i'm just like messy movie.

How often does it happen that you see somebody getting hurt? A person could go their whole life without getting a severe injury. And you'd think that a standard injury ( pin pricks, paper cuts, etc) wouldn't even be worth talking about. So sure, it could happen.

As everyone has said, the film seemed rushed. It felt like the movie skipped over some points where it could've really gone to flesh out the story of all the characters involved.

Instead you feel like there is all this stuff that is skipped and then instead of letting the film tell the story naturally all the pieces that are missed are filled in through dialogue instead filmaking.

All and all, it's a cool flick. I'll check it again on DVD.

The same way i feel like I need to see Cloverfield again.

I'm pretty ambivalent about my alma mater, but Peter Berg working a Macalester shirt into the film via Charlize Theron made me prouder of the place than I've been in awhile. I am, however, glad that he didn't do this with "Very Bad Things".

I thought the movie was good summer fun. The beginning hooked me in enough that I ended up wishing it were better, but that's mostly because I thought they came close but couldn't work their way around some logistical difficulties with the story. I enjoyed the slightly unorthodox choice to base the story around a millenium-old, mythical love story that we never actually see. And I really enjoyed all of the pre-rehabbed Hancock shenanigans.

But it seemed like working on this other stuff kept them from fleshing out a quality villain, which I felt like I needed. Still, being almost really good but missing is pretty enjoyable.

Im a bit perplexed by the hatred this thing brings out in people. It's main drawback is the lack of a good villain but overall it's pretty tight. Good performances all around and way more character development than most comic book films (Batman Begins included).

Overall it was ok & agreee with most of yall that the 1st 1/2 was pretty good & then it just sorta falls on it face once the "twist" is revealed. If you saw that scene of Charlize all decked out in the trailer tho or all the "looks" that she gave Will then it really wasn't a twist at all.

Hopefully its ok to not really think this movie is all that yet still give Will the credit he deserves because he does a good job here considering the botched script. Bateman cracks me up & I wish they would've done more with his character. Was the Epps cameo after the credits? I dont recall seeing him. It did look like Michael Mann was 1 of the guys sitting in on the opening PR sales pitch tho.

You know i hate to be a hater...I really do but Will don't have a filmology as good as Tom Cruise. IMO Will is an average actor with way more misses than hits. But his misses still make money which is all that matters in Hollywood. Jada on the other hand, she is a good actress. I wish she was making more films.

This film was so disappointing and all of the homo rederences and butt jokes. I find ir peculiar that Will's first movie role was that of a gay con artist. The homo tongue in cheek references in his films have not stopped since.

What does it mean? I don't really don't have the time for the ANALysis but I am just sick of it.

Glad i skipped it at the theater. Hancock is not just one of the worst of 2008it is one of the worst of the decade.

I just rented this anticlimatic clusterfuck of a flick.

Even as a producer and leading male (superhero even, gotdamn)he still manages yet another turn as the Magic Negro sent only to console white guilt. I can not believe he was OK with that prison shit.

This apologetic mysticism seeps into almost every role he takes on. I like him as a personality, and he is incredibly entertaining, but the subtext of almost every choice he makes on screen seems to always= "I apologize for (insert negro indiscretion here)."

Personally the *magic negro* stuff don't offend me.

What is your take on the homo innuendo and gay tongue in cheek stuff. from what i understand DiCaprio was playing quite a few gay characters in his early roles, yet i don't recall seeing all this homo shit in his later films. Just wondering why is that Will's films have all this homo references in them?
