dare i say it, the trailer for this one actually looks GOOD.

the first one, i was hopeful
the second, i knew what i was in for and wound up getting fucked anyways by robots in black face, italian mobster stereoypes (actually, the character was a dead ringer for impmon from digimon) and devestator being a fucking dragon.

this time i actually have some expectations from the trailer. and i'll probably get fucked again.

26. "A couple of alarming lines in that review:"
In response to Reply # 25

"The first hour and a half of DARK OF THE MOON focuses primarily on story"

Jesus Christ, how long is this fucking movie?

"He has a new girlfriend, Carly (supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley), who doesn't need an occasion to dress in the tightest clothes imaginable. Bay has a great deal of fun shooting Rosie like he's directing a Victoria's Secret commercial"

The depiction of women in especially T2 made me uncomfortable. Maybe because they're not the type of women I find hot, or maybe the uniform dressing of all women in heels, tank tops, daisy dukes, and spray tans just rubs me the wrong way. *shrug* Rose H-W definitely doesn't do anything for me though.

"A few Decepticons are still around, including a severely beaten down Megatron, who's especially creepy in DARK OF THE MOON because half of his head is missing and these little spider-like robots crawl in and out of the place where his brain circuitry may have been at one time. He plucks them out, almost without noticing, which somehow makes it worse."

This sounds stupid as fuck.

"but when Sam says to the Nest team "Chicago is ground zero!," I got a fucking chill."

Exploitation of 9/11 imagery and/or phrases? Well, at least it'll give me something to talk about in the film class I'm teaching next year, lol.

"and we don't need comic relief like this anyway when we've got street-smart little robots to entertain us."

I realize the people at large love sassy street-wise robots... but REALLY?

"In watching most of the action sequences, it appeared to me that Bay opted to go practical a lot more than he has with this franchise in the past."

... okay, this does give me at least a little re-assurance. But he said the only things not practical are the robots... which are almost certainly the focus of nearly every frame, lol.

I'm still gonna be hopeful, and obviously a shitload of people in America will love this movie... but that positive review didn't really persuade me.

Not that T1 was brilliantly written or anything, but T2 really started breaking apart if you gave it the slightest bit of thought once you left the theatre. The fact that Shitskid and Mudflap aren't in it automatically make this one better...

"Make no mistake, D.C. takes a hell of a beating in DARK OF THE MOON, but it was in the final hour of this TRANSFORMERS chapter that I simply forgot to breathe; there isn't a spare second to do so. For a solid hour, Bay and his CGI-created robot buddies decimate Chicago. And I won't lie: seeing it so realistically and utterly leveled was almost more than I could handle. Granted, people outside of Chicago probably won't have the same reaction I did (I didn't even get a little misty eyed watching California sink into the Pacific during 2012, or New York die in countless sci-fi stories), but our city has never been the victim of an alien hate crime like this before. And as much as it hurt to see, I also loved watching it happen."

i can put up with some bullshit for the absolute mayhem that this will be. TF3 is gonna kick so much ass.

The last 1/2 hour almost makes up for it but I was still sleeping through some of that shit. I'm not even sure how long I started watching my own movie on the inside of my eyelids but when I went back to Bay's flick a major character had lost an arm. It's so hard to see what's going on with a bunch of twisted metal flying around so I could've been awake when it happened & still missed it.

The Good:

Chi-town. Shockwave rips the city & buildings to shreds & dudes are literally flying out of windows & planes to escape. It's by far the most entertaining sequence in the movie.

The Bad:

Before we get to Chi-town we get more of the same lamebrain plot devices & jokes that plagued the first two. It doesn't seem like there's an actual script. Just a bunch of Bay sayin, "Uh lets shoot this shit & you do this & just yuk it up for a bit cool?" And it happens over & over & over again.

The Ugly:

The niggabots are back in a shrunken version this time

this is why i'll never see another one of these god awful pieces of shit...it's LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE to tell what's happening on screen. who's fighting who? where are they? is that his face or his arm? why should i care? who knows?

i honestly don't understand what anyone gets from watching 2.5 hours of this shit.

i haven't seen any interviews with him on this subject, but i'm almost positive that you're right...they probably have a loose script outline and most of the dialogue is improvised. but it's such BAD improvisation...almost never funny and it usually goes on way too long.

It's a challenge and a strain on my eyes which is probably why they eventually figured, "fuck it" & shut em down. I could feel the lids gettin heavy & had no energy left to keep em open.

I'm a sucker for the nostalgia & couldn't pass up a chance to see what Bay would do with the IMAX 3D technology for free. It looks great at the start & then a few times towards the middle & end but was a chore & a bore to sit through for the most part.

I pictured Michael Bay in a director's chair yelling cut and then asking Tyrese if he could do that scene again but this time Blacker...

everything about it was bad. the acting, the script, the music, fucking everything. i didnt know i could hate a movie so much. glad i didnt pay to see that trash.

the only thing that kept me seeing these movies was to hear Prime's voice and get that nostalgic feeling. this movie killed that. i dont think ill ever see a movie directed by bay again.

the jokes were so corny, such stupid robots added... man, i could go on but fuck that, this movie doesnt deserve it.

I liked the use of slow-mo during the fight scenes, made it a lot easier to follow the action in this one as opposed to the first two. If you are looking for great writing, acting and a decent plot, this flick is not for you. If you're looking to see big ass robots kick the shit out each other and totally fuck up the city of Chicago, then get your ass to the theater pronto.

And yeah, the IMAX 3D is worth it, apparently James Cameron lent Bay his cameras he used to shoot Avatar, and you can tell, the 3D in this flick is excellent....

except we haven't seen all of the footage yet. i recognize that you're being hyperbolic, but some people just want to watch stuff blow up. we might go to movies where we're interested in people saying words to each other in a coherent fashion, but sometimes maybe that's not what we're looking for in a movie. i saw tree of life a week ago, enjoyed it, and then went to transformers yesterday and enjoyed it for different reasons. i didn't boo the first movie because nothing exploded, nor did i boo transformers because it didn't have people whisper-monologuing throughout the movie. i recognize each movie can be made fun of if you don't like it, i just happen to like both of them.

i don't mean to be a dick or anything, i'm just saying, myself and others dig movies like transformers 3 (or at least the last 90 minutes, the first hour was kind of boring) and don't see anything wrong with it.

since YOU KNOW the script sucks, the acting is going to be terrible and the comedy is idiotic you're excited to see it?

nah, not buying that.

everything leading up to this film said the opposite of it. they said the cheesy comedy was toned down. they actually had a good script and people got excited for it. the only thing people probably knew was that the new chick cant act for shit and is going to be horrible (which she was)

i loved the first one and could understand the hate for the second one, but this one, nah, just a straight up bad movie.

i never said i was excited for those reasons. in fact, none of those things are things i remotely expect going into it. it is what it is, and i already know what it is.

>nah, not buying that.

lol, you're not buying my own personal perspective on my expectations of a film with massive flaws i readily acknowledge and grudgingly accepted- and yet remain excited about for reasons having nothing at all to do with the things it's being trashed for not doing well, things i don't expect or care about with this particular iteration of this franchise? lol. alrighty then.

>everything leading up to this film said the opposite of it.
>they said the cheesy comedy was toned down. they actually had

soooooo "they" said things, and thus i should temper my own expectations based on what "they" said?

>people probably knew was that the new chick cant act for shit
>and is going to be horrible (which she was)

lol, no. i guarantee you this movie will have very little surprise for me. i'm 100% sure i'll get 90% of what i expect.

>i loved the first one and could understand the hate for the
>second one, but this one, nah, just a straight up bad movie.

but "they" said it would be better! right? lol. you don't like it, which is fine. i'm sure i'll have a million gripes while enjoying myself immensely.

yes, people who aren't so smug and elitist that they can't see the forest for the trees in appreciation of a whole. You know, people who are capable of enjoying the overall movie while accepting that certain parts of it aren’t exactly stellar. People who don’t get mad at the fact that someone else enjoys something they don’t.

granted, if we were talking about ass rape, it would be another story. People who like to ass rape other people clearly enjoy the act; not so much the rest of us, and certainly not the person being ass raped. So, if we were talking ass rape, murder, necrophilia with the corpse of someones dead grandmother, police brutality, public hangings of minorities, etc, I’d be on board with you, because there are clearly some things we SHOULD be upset with others for enjoying. Dumb action movies where robots beat the shit out of each other and shit blows up really shouldn’t be one of them.

lol, no irony. i'm cool with you not liking it. just trying to figure out why you're so mad that others do.

so... you're mad at me being able to enjoy the movie for what it is despite knowing it has flaws, correct?

i agree with the way the movie was being talked about, like they had left out all of the shitty elements of the second one, which they clearly did not. i suppose i was just more cynical and thought that even though shia and bay were saying these things, they were exaggerating. those two have a flair for saying absurd things though.

that being said, yes, this was supposed to be the one that was an actual good movie, and it was as far as the action elements go. as far as story, plot, and sam's arc though, the first one is far and away the best of the three.

These dudes in here talking like there's no room between The Kings Speech and The Last Air bender *smh* So I guess big screen video games is what's hot in the streets now.

I see where your coming from. For me as far as Transformers go, I already know the plot, I can care less about the acting. I want to see a live action cartoon. I want cheesy one liners from Megatron and Optimus Prime while they throw each other thru buildings. That's what I want to see. If I want to watch something with good acting and great plot, I'll watch the King's Speech or something similar. Thier are different types of movies for all of us to enjoy for whatever reason and I'll put money on it that everyone in this post saw BOTH Transformers even though they were BOTH cheesy, and y'all will watch this one.

(Though that's not saying much.)

A lot of the problems of the first two are still here. The beginning is far longer and more complicated than it needs to be. The characters are all ehh. Lots of manipulation of our patriotic sensibilities with troops in danger, moments of heroism by Americans (the "let's roll" moment made me cringe), and loads of allusions to 9/11.

But the shot length is longer, the 3D looks good, and some of the action is genuinely thrilling. I've NEVER seen a jump-from-a-high-place thrill work very well until now-- the 3D in particular is a must for these sequences alone. The Chicago building sequence is good. I thought Dempsey and Turturro were having fun. Nice to see Andy Daly in a movie of this size.

I mean, if you don't like Transformers movies, you'll leave with the same complaints, so don't go see it. If you're indifferent like I was, you'll enjoy some of the final hour, especially the 3D.

Also, RHW's face is strange to me, but she does have a gentle, sweet screen presence which was kind of a nice change from Megan Fox's character, which was a mish-mash of tomboy and damsel-in-distress. Here, it's all damsel-in-distress, and it works better.

the sequence in Bay's own The Island was, imo better than any of the wingsuit / base jumping stuff in this movie. i dug the action, I just thought those parts ended up being pretty average after all the hype they received.

I'm thinking Dark Knight, M:I-III, etc., where the heroes do some MASSIVELY HUGE jump, and I just sit there and think, "They coulda easily done this shit with CGI."

This one, the 3D camera on the helmet really actually made me feel like the physical execution of the stunt was important, and it put me in the middle of it.

I didn't mean you're-somewhere-high-and-you-fall scenes. There've been plenty of awesome scenes like that, including The Island, which is awesome.

I didn't really "like" the product as a whole (at least 30 minutes too long, weird tonal shifts, and the humor never really worked for me), but I appreciated segments of it a great deal, enough to the point where I can tell people safely if they like the idea of a Transformers flick, they will probably at least like parts of this enough to merit seeing it in 3D.

that "good dumb popcorn movie" shit never flew with me before and it doesn't now.

it has characters that I give a shit about

the plot flows in a coherent manner, and the comedy and action are appropriately sprinkled in so it doesn't get bogged down.

the action is far better here than it was in either of the other two movies, clearly bay has had to slow down from his quick cutting style for 3d and we all benefit, you can actually see what the fuck is happening and it all looks great.

ol girl is hot, white skinny bitch hot sure, but hot.

cleared up the major issues from 2, the parents show up and ruin things, but this time it's in a "dan lebatard is on pti ruining things" way.

it could be shorter, but it isn't, and like...97% of what's there is awesome.

while it does boil down to expectations, it's more nuanced than that; saying you can't enjoy the overall effect of something while simultaneously recognizing that it's seriously flawed in certain areas is a bit short sighted. many of us have simply accepted the franchise for what it is.

i NEVER said these movies are teaching life lessons. i said the movies our culture chooses to endorse says a lot about us. but you're, unsurprisingly, ignoring that point as hard as you can. way to go.

And you do? That's why you've watched this corniness not once, not twice, but three times. The same bad script written by the same bad directer with the same actors but yet you went to see them 3 times. And I'm a retard?

about a grown man who runs around in a bat costume because he got scared in a cave as a child. it's corny as hell.

but creative people who actually give a fuck - like Frank Miller and Alan Moore - took that cheese, imbued it with their own personal creative perspectives, and turned it into engaging bits of entertainment.

a hack like Joel Schumacher took a crack at it and shat out a lazy, gaudy mess.

Christopher Nolan clearly gave a fuck and, WITH THE SAME SOURCE MATERIAL, created a modern classic.

see how that works?

so your argument of "it's Transformers, what'd you expect"? is lazy and specious.

The only thing about Batman being cheesy was the 60's show because they had to soften him up due to declining sales. Other than that, Batman was no where near as blah as the Transformers. Bruce Wayne saw his parents murdered as a kid and swore revenge on crime. He enrobes the bat suit because he saw a bat come threw the window and rest on his father(don't remember all the details) but it wasn't til they changed the story up, that he was scared of them as a kid. Anyways he's a billionaire by day, a crime fighter/detective at night and you compare this to the TRANSFORMERS?

All of the ones you've put up thre are recent iterations of Batman. Batman after folks have taken liberty to darken and mold him to be tougher.

The transformers comics are gangster as shit NOW. In the begining they were similarly cheesy as the cartoon was.

still not ideal but it's a dramatic improvement, and it feels like the movie they should have made all along. sam and his purpose got some depth finally. the double cross(es) were well done and not entirely expected.

i can't say i was thrilled all the way through (first act was slow and a little annoying, half the crew being held prisoner and one getting executed wasn't remotely believeable, the falling building scene being way too long, the wormbot being essentially worthless and given entirely too much screen time, the humanized hair features on the robots, the accents).

all in all i came away fully satisfied for the first time, and not in a "it sucks but i still enjoyed myself" kind of way like the other two. i wasn't completely annoyed by the super skinny (and still not all that attractive) love interest this time around.

i love the fact that it was much more graphic and the fact that there were casualties. i liked that the cia ice queen didn't hold the same note all movie long. i LOVED the scene with turturro and shia after the autobots left. i enjoyed the autobot ruse.

all in all i give it a solid B+.

The chase scene and the final battle were great, and even knowing not to expect much, I couldn't help be bored and uninterested between those sequences. There's really no resonance with the characters and the writing/jokes (Optimus's speecehs got a little too corny this go around, the freedom one in Chicago was like cmon) are played out so I basically expected to not care at all during any of the non-battle sequences. The parents really are terrible too, and Rosie was decent enough.

The chase scene was probably my favorite in any of the transformers trilogy...my jaw seriously dropped. In general, the much wider angles really made the action that much more impressive. The jump sequences were sick. The hand on hand transformers combat is still too convoluted, nothing came close to the Optimus forest scene from part 2(probably the only scene I liked in that lol).

Did anyone have Terminator 2 flashbacks during the Chicago scenes, especially with that big carrier transport? Someone needs to get Bay to direct just the action scenes of a Terminator 2 future inspired film.

2 great sequences, not much else...but that's the formula I expected. Far and away better than part 2, not on the level of part 1.

Watching it in 1080p at home... the CGI isn't as impressive now as it was then. You can see the seams between the robots and the forest a good deal, especially when the robots interact with the trees.

My favorite action scene in a poor movie is the freeway sequence in Matrix Reloaded. That scene's visuals to this day are absolutely ridiculous.

In response to Reply # 0

my main frustration with the discussion in this thread - and with people who inexplicably like this garbage-ass franchise - is the general lowering of expectations.

"it's Transformers, what'd you expect?" fuck you.

action movies can have BOTH bad-ass set pieces AND coherent narratives. see: True Lies, Terminator 2, Die Hard, Dark Knight, Jurassic Park, Robocop, The Matrix, Aliens, Indiana Jones, Lethal Weapon, Speed, Iron Man, 300, Predator, The Incredibles, The Fugitive, Inception, the first Pirates movie, etc.

some of those aren't even great movies, but they're AT LEAST COHERENT. there's a clear objective. characters' actions affect how that objective is met. dialogue propels the narrative forward. it's storytelling 101.

"i just like to see shit blow up." fuck you.

why can't we have 'splosions AND characters/stories we care about? WHY? not one of you assbagels have answered this.

why? because Michael Bay is a horrible person.

it's not just that he's terrible at basic storytelling (he is). it's also that he has terrible taste. he must think all those interminable "comedic" moments are actually funny...that's why he lets them go on for 5-10 minutes too long. but they are OBJECTIVELY unfunny, ugly and usually have no impact on any aspect of the narrative. they're just disconnected filler in a movie that's already 45 minutes too long.

he also must think the insanely overcomplicated designs of the Transformers are better because there's more shit on the screen. problem is, when you throw two piles of scrap metal together, it looks like a pile of shiny shit. if they had shown some restraint on the character designs and stayed truer to the toys/cartoon, you'd be able to visually differentiate between characters instantly...even in silhouette. which would work infinitely better with Bay's ADD editing style. as it is, every character literally looks the same, especially when in motion. it's a god damn mess. when you HAVE to resort to super slow-mo to make your action scenes understandable, there's a fucking problem.

if you want to sit in a theater and get eye-raped by explosions for three hours, you're retarded. i don't mean that in a flippant, colloquial way. i mean, there are many levels of retardation and you may be at least mildly affected. that shit's not normal, man. i'm fucking serious...the 47th time one pile of shiny shit punches the other pile of shiny shit and they 'splode real good, what the fuck are you getting out of it? they would've used this to test for future psychopaths a couple decades ago.

bottom line...we have to expect more. you assholes are rewarding a lazy, arrogant filmmaker for creating overly-loud, overly-long, ugly, lifeless garbage. i'm just glad Bay's run is finally over. cuz i'm DYING for a good Transformers movie. bring on the reboot (please).

why, exactly?

it's really not a big deal.

>action movies can have BOTH bad-ass set pieces AND coherent

right, they *can* be. this franchise isn't that. nobody, i mean NOBODY, in this thread is saying otherwise.

see: True Lies, Terminator 2, Die Hard, Dark

right, they are.

>there's a clear objective. characters' actions

right, and nobody is arguing this.

no, fuck yourself. you're the one with the problem.

>why can't we have 'splosions AND characters/stories we care
>about? WHY? not one of you assbagels have answered this.

we can and nobody said we can't

>why? because Michael Bay is a horrible person.

i dunno about that, he's an amazing talent in a very limited regard. what he does well, he does really well. the rest tends to suck.

>it's not just that he's terrible at basic storytelling (he

right, he is, and nobody in here disagrees.

>it's also that he has terrible taste.

right, and nobody said otherwise.

he must think all

right, and even people who enjoy the movies as a whole, (except for the fallen) like myself, acknowledge this.

>but they are OBJECTIVELY unfunny, ugly and usually have

right, and guess what? NOBODY DISAGREES.

they're just

right. and people largely pan these elements. i don't get what your beef is so far.

nowhere near that bad actually. hyperbole right here.

right. agreed. nobody really disagrees with this.

yeah, it's not that bad at all actually. more hyperbole.

>that in a flippant, colloquial way. i mean, there are many

lol. you're so over the top here i can't even take you seriously any longer.

why, oh WHY, are you so furious with people who liked this movie?
you're actually angry here, tangibly so. the more accurate indicator of a psychopath in here is the guy who is passionately callng people retards for liking a movie he doesn't. in other words, you.

>bottom line...we have to expect more.

you just worry about yourself and your own smug sense of what constitutes good taste. we would like better, but this is what we got, and two of the three movies manage to be pretty good as a whole in spite of themselves.

i have no problem with low-functioning morons like you enjoying shitty entertainment...it saddens me, but i understand there will always be a huge segment of America that keeps shit like "Two and a Half Men" on the air.

but i do have a problem with you mongoloids defending this ugly shit as "pretty good" or telling me i'm a snob for not liking it. go fuck yourself with a rusty ice pick.

this isn't "just a popcorn flick." this is our culture. ya know...that little thing that separates us from wild fucking animals. it's how we share ideals and connect with like-minded people and shape our world view. keep rolling your eyes, but it's true...what we watch says a lot about us.

and, for a movie like this, that's aimed squarely at children, the potential damage is magnified. we're giving a big thumbs-up to a movie that's racist and loud and relentlessly violent and xenophobic and treats women like disposable cock receptacles.

and you can miss me with that "well, you shouldn't be letting your kids see it, then." this vile shit seeps into the culture. it numbs us into accepting horrible, brainless shit and it bolsters people like you, who enjoy paying $15 to get their eye holes fucked for three hours.

more than anything, it's a celebration of mediocrity and laziness. and that's just not healthy, in any context.

yep.

>do i need to spell out what's wrong with that?

oh, please do. it's an absolute charade to sit here and say that you can't enjoy something that is deeply flawed. if that's the case you shouldn't be a fan of movies at all.

>if you loved chocolate ice cream but the only kind your store

what an absurd, nonsensical analogy.

>i have no problem with low-functioning morons like you
>enjoying shitty entertainment...

lol@YOU in here calling people low functioning morons, while you have zero ability for nuance in your perspective and would rather sit here and trash people on a personal level and attaching character and intilectual flaws to them because you're mad at the success of a movie you don't like.

>it saddens me, but i
>understand there will always be a huge segment of America that
>keeps shit like "Two and a Half Men" on the air.

the fact that you're this disturbed by tv shows and movies and the people who watch them is a clear indication that you're a little delusional in regard to the level of your own intilegence.

>but i do have a problem with you mongoloids defending this
>ugly shit as "pretty good" or telling me i'm a snob for not
>liking it. go fuck yourself with a rusty ice pick.

i didn't tell you you're a snob. but again, you telling the same people you call mongloids, retards, and morons to fuck themselves with a rusty icepick is a little self defeating - and it does a FANTASTIC job of exposing you for the mental midget-slash-potential sociopath you really are.

>this isn't "just a popcorn flick." this is our culture. ya

>your eyes, but it's true...what we watch says a lot about us.

yeah, this is a bogus connection to make and a laughable reach on your end. while the basic premise of this statement has some truth, the overarching point you're trying to make in direct relation to this movie is a joke.

>and, for a movie like this, that's aimed squarely at children,

i agree, there's a place for "mindless" entertainment.

the Transformers franchise goes FAR beyond that. it's AGRESSIVELY ugly. it's goes way out of it's way to objectify women, make anyone non-American seem "other", and generally be overly-loud and crass.

you're ok with that. i'm not. end of story.

Just because someone is expecting or used to shit, doesn't mean they should be satisfied with and/or rationalizing shit.

There's just so much that could have been executed better, and you touched on a lot of it. The biggest issues for me are the transformer designs, and the completely disconnected humor. Lastly, I feel like the most compelling of the Autobots/Decepticons story-lines was lost with Megatron being relegated to the background because nothing compares to the Megatron-Optimus rivalry.

nonsense. everyone determines their own expectations and the things the choose to accept. it's awfully pompous to sit here and tell people they shouldn't be satisfied with something based on their own expectations. who are you to tell someone else how they should or shouldn't rationalize their personal expectations?

>It's so terribly wrong of me to expect the best. My bad.

you should expect whatever you expect, hold your standard to your standard. by all means, do you man. however, your post entered the realm of telling other people what *they* should and shouldn't expect.
me harping on you for telling people, quote,

"Just because someone is expecting or used to shit, doesn't mean they should be satisfied with and/or rationalizing shit."

in no way took you to task for what you personally prefer.

everyone has their own expectations, and they can be as satisfied or dissatisfied with something based on their own expectations as they please. you can argue the merits of their expectations, but you can't argue their personal level of satisfaction.

it boils down to people appreciating things in the context of what they are as opposed to appreciating them for what we want them to be. that subtle change in perspective here is key. you have your criteria, i have mine. this idea that people can't enjoy things that are flawed is a joke.

i mean, a brilliant specimen of human intelligence such as yourself should be capable of recognizing the difference between the two. weird how a moronic, retarded mongoloid such as myself can understand such a distinction. but then, you've shown not a single ounce of nuance in your posting thus far.

>"you take this too seriously".
>
>no shit, man. i'm interested in movies and the culture they
>influence and are influenced by.

no, you're really, REALLY, super duper serious man. like, you're angry that people like a *movie* that you repeatedly call "vile". i'm not so sure you understand what the term means; in other words, you can't trash the movie based on it's (lack of) merit, you need to blow things far out of proportion to get your point across. telling.

>you just use movies as en escape. that's fine...just don't
>get mad when someone with an opinion doesn't stand up to
>applaud the (admitted) garbage that you enjoy.

lol. that's not what happened in here. what happened was YOU got pissed because others liked the movie. and some other dude, nueve or some shit. i responded to the dick attitude on display towards people who liked the film; i responded to the smug sense of superiority. i don't care if you like the movie, you can think it's shit. good for you. your attitude toward people who enjoy it is what warranted the response, not your opinion on the movie. but again- you lack nuance. you can't seem to distinguish one motive for the other.

>you're not interested in a real discussion of movies...
i absolutely am.

>just want someone to pat you on the back

.......... no.

for not being a
>pretentious asshole like you imagine i am.

i'm not imagining; i've formed that opinion on you based solely on your words in this thread. if i have the wrong impression, it's because you put forth an image so blatant and aggressive that doesn't take a genius (read: even a retard could pick up on it) to see it and form an educated opinion that you are in fact a pretentious prick whose breath reeks of masengil.

I did this for Revenge of the Fallen, so I'll do it again here.

The Good

I thought that of all the actors on screen, it was the *voices* of Peter Cullen and Leonard Nimoy that were the best performances. I've never heard two actors make such silly-ass dialogue feel so important.

In fact, of all of the characters I only gave a shit about Optimus Prime, mainly due to the voice work of Mr. Cullen, also mainly due to the fact that our "hero" Witwicky is such a whiny, douchey bitch that it was hard to root for him.

The Chicago sequence, while too long, was very well done, and it might have been because of the huge IMAX 3D screen and the aforementioned slo mo but the action was much easier to follow this time out, so that was a plus.

The twisty-wormy machine monster, last seen in The Matrix Revolutions, was cool.

Loved the alternative historical set up regarding the moon landing and Sentinel Prime.

Everything looked great in IMAX 3D (the real IMAX 3D, not that Aziz Ansari in Burbank bullshit)

I'm resigned to the fact that Michael Bay is convinced that he's the voice of the teenage American boy and therefore has to shoot everything (women's asses, military shit, soldiers, tattered American flags, cars speeding down the freeway) with the gaze of a commercial director who's always trying to sell you some shit...

The Bad

Once again, it's another Michael Bay movie that's at least 20 minutes too long. He continues to have this problem directing humans and scenes involving comedy that isn't that funny to begin with, much less when he decides to hold the scene an extra beat or two longer than he should.

And while the Chicago battle was entertaining, it could have been trimmed by at least 10 minutes. And did we really need for Cybertron to restart after it had been shut down the first time? Couldn't they had found another way to kill McDreamy than have him go set up the thingy and have Witwicky's bitch ass electrocute him? Lame.

You know, since Shia's been in such a sharing mood lately, maybe he'll tell someone that he felt like he didn't have much to play in this movie. And he'd be right, because he was completely unlikeable in this movie. He was, at times obnoxious, whiny, and bitchy. The one thing he wasn't was funny. Or even amusing, for that matter.

McDreamy was wasted.

I'm kind of tired of post-Dark Knight movie scores where there are "dark," driving rhythms during the action through most of the movie. Please fucking stop it, Hollywood.

Rosie Huntington-Whitely was a cute enough girl, teenage boys will drool all over her for a minute, but all I could think of at certain points of the movie was, let me see how many shots Michael Bay will fetishize her in (starting with the shot of her ass, which was the very first shot after the moon landing sequence, I counted at least 3, which isn't bad for Bay, but it was still terrible)...

... not to mention the fact that she's a part of this big-ass battle in Chicago, with Shia and Optimus and Black Ty and the army fighting like badasses in the streets and office buildings where there's all kinds of broken glass and rubble and rocks and fire and shit... and not only does she barely suffer a scratch, she's running at full sprint through the streets and sliding down office windows... all while wearing high heels.

Cmon, son.

The Ugly

Seriously, she was running amongst the rubble of Chicago in heels.

And the explosion of the Autobots shuttle off of Earth was shot and edited to invoke the Challenger disaster in '86. Not cool.

Did I mention ol' girl was running around the streets of Chicago in heels?

This movie was an improvement over Revenge of the Fallen but that's kinda like giving it some kind of award for trying or something. Bay works hard and to his credit he's a director's director (with him firing off letters to theater owners demanding that they show the movie with the brightest possible bulbs) but imo he still can't direct humans and tries to cheat by turning up the music during points where we're supposed to be sad but it doesn't work.

But it was fun to see another major American city not named NY or LA get destroyed, even if it seemed to go on for 4 hours...

Also, I'd like to get some good, solid reasoning (not namecalling or agenda fishing) behind the decision to go at Ternary Star's neck in here, or at anyone else who didn't dig on the movie for that matter...

i've always said Bay's movies are like 3 hour trailers, but you're right...they're more like commercials.

the weird editing he uses where shots barely connect with one another and there's loud music over every scene...it's always off-putting to me. i feel like i can never get into a flow...like it's all climax and no buildup.

but it does make more sense to me to picture his movies as a loosely connected series of 30 second tv spots. you kinda just blew my mind. seriously.

it's ultimately the commodification of EVERYTHING. pussy, guns, violence, America, machines, humanity, etc. it's a firesale for our souls in Michael Bay's mind. haha.

I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, but, yeah, he's Tony Scott before Tony Scott started playing with dizzying hand held camera and flash cuts

That actually might be Bay's next artistic leap

Though, to be fair, he did get his start in commercials...

he's pissed off because people enjoy the movie.
he's the one in here telling people to fuck themselves with a rusty screwdriver. he's the one telling people "fuck you because you like this". he's the one who's upset that there are people who can enjoy these movies for what they are as opposed to what we think they should be. he's been the one going for the jugular in his interactions. he;s the one calling people morons and mongoloids and retards.

so it's a little odd, after he's been going hard all thread and NOBODY, including me, who we all know can't resist engaging anyone on any level for any reason, has turned up the volume toward him anywhere near the level he's blasted it at others, to hear you ask why people are going at HIS neck. he's the one who's been over aggressive in this post, and not by a close distance either.

*edit: and as far as going at anyone else who didn't like the movie, it's also been the other way around; in fact, it's the one's who don't like the film who have taken to name calling and taking a talk-down approach toward those on the other side of the fence.

if anything, he went superhard at me and others who actually liked it, questioning mine and others' intelligence and calling us retarded for liking it. Thats why I hardly post in this forum, because there's no rationality when it comes to disagreeing with someone, its all insults. I'm sorry that I don't take my movies as seriously as you and him do, and yes, there are a ton of mindless movies that I enjoy, as well as "artsy fartsy" (c) OE films that you serious film lovers like as well. All I ask is to not be insulted for liking what I like.....

And as far as those artsy-fartsy accusations you tried to lazily aim at me... remember, I'm a pro wrestling fan.

I've said here countless times that I'm a fan of mindless entertainment. It certainly has its place. This trilogy of movies, like most of the Michael Bay catalogue, certainly qualifies. That's his thing.

But all I see in this thread are cats going on the defensive and trolling back-and-forth because one guy isn't really feeling y'all's reasoning for liking the film. All he seems to be asking is that you find another reason to dig the film besides the standard, "it's mindless, what else do you want GOD it's not about OSCARS it ain't that deep!!!!!?" that people like to go to whenever they feel the need to defend themselves. But y'all can't seem to get past the namecalling and answer his question.

defensive? he's the one calling people retards and mongoloids and morons and telling people fuck you, to fuck themselves with icepicks, etc.

the same guy who resorted to a shit ton of personal attacks?

he's really not. he's sat here and talked down to people, calling them idiots, morons, etc. newsflash: i don't need to give him a new rationale for why i enjoy the films. he doesn't like my rationale, fine. i don't like his. however, the trouble in here is 100% do to his name calling and down talking. it has absolutely nothing to do with differing opinions, and everything to do with HIM spitting personal attacks at people who don't share his view. THAT, my friend, is what's going on in here.

>But y'all can't seem to get past the nameccalling

but he's the one doing like 90% of the name calling in here. it's really bizarre that he showed up with guns blazing screaming personal attacks every chance he gets, and yet you're defending him.

WHAT questions? he has no questions. he's on a fuckiing rampage calling everyone names because we like a movie that's flawed in spite of those flaws and he doesn't. h has no questions.

and you know what? you know damn good and well if it were me saying the exact same shit to people, you wouldn't run in here on some "just ignore his assholia and answer his questions".

no, you would say that my assholia negates any actual conversation that might be had, and talk about how if i wanted to have a real conversation i should do so without name calling and whatever.

and if i had said all that shit to you? i highly doubt- from past experience with you, might i add- that you would simply ignore me telling you to fuck yourself with a rusty icepick because you like a movie and i don't.

i called you retarded. get over it.

if you like watching three hours of explosions, with no semblance of a narrative, you are dumb. it's that cut and dry. you can take offense to that label all you want, but it's true. you may be a wonderful son, cook a mean ribeye, and volunteer at the shelter every Sunday, but you're dumb.

you mentioned "Idiocracy" earlier...i just pulled up a quote from that movie and it's hilarious how much it relates to you. comparing "Ass: the Movie" to movies of the past, Luke Wilson's character says:

"People wrote books and movies, movies that had stories so you cared whose ass it was and why it was farting..."

that's LITERALLY you. you just watch shit blowing up and you don't care why the shit is blowing up or who's affected by it. just staring, gape-mouthed at the purty 'splosions.

but my ultimate point is, we can have balls-to-the-wall action without sacrificing basic storytelling. so why are you not only settling for less, but praising this tripe as "pretty good" and bristling at any valid criticism leveled against it?

why are you celebrating a movie that treats women like spunk canisters and anyone non-American as weird and worthy of ridicule?

why should we watch this toxic garbage when there are movies made by people who actually give a damn?

first, i could give a fuck what you called me. he asked, answered. it's simple.

>if you like watching three hours of explosions, with no
>semblance of a narrative, you are dumb.

see, this is the issue *right HERE* the name calling. if you like this, you're an idiot! and yet you and a few others are taking issue with being called a snob. it actually goes both ways, like it or not.

>it's that cut and dry.

it really isn't/

> you can take offense to that label all you want,

offense? no. what it is, is sad that your disdain here for people who like something you don't runs so deep that you feel the need to make emphatic assertions as to the intellect of the people who enjoy it. it's even sadder that zoo up there has an issue with people calling you out for it. he wonders why, that comment right there is why.

but it's
>true. you may be a wonderful son, cook a mean ribeye, and

yes, that's it. keep it coming. no, i don't need to know who's affected by the explosions. but if it makes you feel better about yourself, if it makes you feel more confident in your own intellect, by all means- keep hammering home the point that you think anyone who enjoys this movie is a drooling idiot.

>but my ultimate point is, we can have balls-to-the-wall action
>without sacrificing basic storytelling.

right, and nobody is arguing that.

>so why are you not
>only settling for less, but praising this tripe as "pretty
>good" and bristling at any valid criticism leveled against
>it?

i haven't bristled at the criticism of the movie at all, i've bristled at the name calling and down-talking by you and neueve toward anyone who likes it. but again, that's something that's been lost on you from the start. you can hate the movie all you want, that's good and well. i'm bristling at you and your need to insult people because they fail to see it your way. i'm bristling at zoo because he doesn't see a problem with your name calling, but he sees a problem with people calling you out on it.

>why are you celebrating a movie that treats women like spunk
>canisters and anyone non-American as weird and worthy of
>ridicule?

because i enjoyed it. you want answers, i gave you answers. here's another answer: because it's nowhere near that level of misogynistic, and i have no idea where this "ridicule anyone who isn't american" nonsense is coming from. i can't even respect your criticism because it uses so much hyperbole it's become every bit the cartoon the movie is.

>why should we watch this toxic garbage when there are movies
>made by people who actually give a damn?

you should really worry about what you watch and stop being so bothered that people watch shit you don't like. there is no "we", it's you. it's me. we does not exist. but then, you want everyone to do shit your way. to think your way, to enjoy and hate what you enjoy and hate. your issue is waaaaay bigger than this movie.

Michael Bay was there.
The wing suit guys jumped out of a helicopter with chutes/gliders.
BTW - the suit guys were POINTLESS in the movie.
I almost fell asleep in the final 3rd.
All this non-stop whoo-ha reviews you may read are bullshit.
All of these reviewers that slathered the cock of this movie are forevermore SUSPECT. (no JoBlo-mo)

I liked Jeong, but I like him in everything.
Malcovich was awesome in this check cashing phase of his career.
The 3D was great.

If you liked the first 2, I question your sensibilities, but this shit will make you giddy.
If you didn't even bother with the 2nd because you knew better and your curiosity is peaked because of the brouhaha - be warned, keep it moving.

And it's Sofa King long.

what?

I have no idea what the story for either would be.

The good parts of Thor are based off of ancient legend. Transformers is something someone came up with to sell action figures.

Shia was shiddy but the "script" just called for him to be a brat so I can't blame him directly. Even if you think the leads were equal there's no one else in Transformers on the level of Loki, Odin & Heimdall.

Turtoro telling me that Shia's an alien bad news magnet didn't cut it nor did Frances McDormand's blurred line between male & female. I'm not a Bay basher but the boy sure did waste a lot of talent between them Malc & Jeong.

He was very effective with limited screen time. Shia & them were a complete waste of time.

I'm sitting here, staring at my Lenovo monitor, wonder what in the hell possessed me to go see this yesterday.

I admit, the chase scene was incredible and the Chicago stuff was pretty good. But this movie was BORING.

I literally fell asleep somewhere around the Ken Jeong stuff and woke up just before the highway chase. I have no idea how much time that was, but it was my favorite part of the movie.

Basically, if you're on the fence about going to see this because the reception has been so positive, don't. It's just more of the same. Also, I have been a 3D apologist and this is the best 3D I've seen since Avatar, but it still doesn't hold a candle to Avatar's 3D. I think I'm beginning to join the anti-3D crowd.

If you have any problems with my opinion I'd love to discuss it this movie via Cisco Teleconference....hit me up.

Before I get into this, let me just say that I enjoyed the movie and thought that it did what it should have. The beautiful thing is, that none of these questions matter at all to anybody.

-If Sentinel Prime had apparently already reached an agreement with the Decepticons to solve the whole situation, why did the Decepticons shoot down his ship in the first minute of the film?

-Also if the target all along was to enslave Earth, why does Optimus refer to Earth as an "unknown planet" in the opening voice-over of the first movie? It's like they couldn't be bothered to go back and watch the first 30 seconds of the first movie for the purpose of continuity. They know that nobody cares.

-What was the point of Sentinel turning down the weird life giving plot device that Optimus offered him? I get that it’s supposed to make his heel turn all the more surprising but that guy was a huge asshole. He would have realized that could have come in handy at some point if he knew that he was going to double cross a lot of people.

-The 180° turns were awesome. Megatron's was my favorite though. They clearly wanted Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to do something else than be scared and run, so they have her mind fuck Megatron into double-crossing Sentinel. He went from, "It's all good. We're going to bring back Cybertron, enslave the human race, and kill all the Autobots." to "Man, that's messed up that Sentinel talks down to me sometimes. I should go kill him right now before this plan has been cemented and there's still time for the Autobots to pull out a victory."

-Sam Witwicky tells his parents in their trailer that Carly is "the one". She loved him and supported him when he was a bum without a job and unlike Megan Fox, it had nothing to do with his car. Then on multiple occasions he recklessly risks his life to try and keep her safe. They survive a crazy intergalactic war. Then at the end when Bumble Bee suggests they should get married he starts pulling the "Whoa, whoa, let's slow down here." Mind you, I'm a bachelor but I feel like I'd probably be willing to propose to a woman before I'd be willing to drive 15 hours to fight an army of mechanized alien robots for her.

-I love how when the movie takes the time to explain how things work, they almost rub it in your face that they know you don't really care. How the fuck did the Pillars work? Apparently you just spread those things around and Sentinel can beam whoever or whatever he wants from anywhere to where he is. But it's not a start portal because he beams individual Decepticons to the National Mall and then beams an entire planet to outer space. But it's cool, because he explained it to Frances McDormand at one point. He said something to the effect of, "This machine does not work according to your laws of physics". Seriously? That's like somebody read the first draft of the script and said, "You should put some explanation in here about how this thing works because I'm pretty confused." And Ehren Kruger came back with, "Seriously? Nobody has any clue what the Matrix of Leadership was or how it did anything and we made $800 million worldwide."

-Along similar lines, they apparently built a secret hatch in their rocket ship that lead to an unseen location beneath the launch platform where they were chilling when Starscream blew up their rocket? 20 giant robots just sneaking out of a fucking rocket that the world is watching? And when Sam asks them about it, the one Autobot was like, “Hey we built the thing. We knew this would happen at some point.” They don’t even pretend to care.

-I'm really glad that we got an in-depth look at critical scenes like Sam's search for employment and looking for hiding Cosmonauts in a brothel in New York. That was almost certainly cooler than the implied scene where the Decepticons took over the city of Chicago by force and the entire world collectively realizes that they're all fucked...Good call on that.

-Did they confirm that Sam shoving McDreamy into the Pillar killed him? I wasn't really sure.

-We're like 7 hours into the live-action Transformers era and sadly we are no closer to Dinobots.

- I actually appreciated the Star Trek references that the sprinkled throughout. Like Bumble Bee's audio clip dialogue had Nimoy saying, "I have been and always will be your friend" from Star Trek 3. Or Optimus tells him before the big show down that, he needs to learn "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" which is out of Star Trek 2. And then there's a TV on at Shia's house that had a Spock scene, I think it was the one with the pon farr from The Original Series.

That's weird because the elders were there before as well. I guess since the elders never made it back and Sentinel crashed they didn't know the name of the planet.

Tha Matrix of Leadership is only supposed to work for those the thing deemed worthy. Had Sentinel took it and it didn't work for him, it would have looked suspicious.

Worst agreement ever. "Alright, if you make past the defenses from the force that massively outnumbers you, we'll work together...But let's keep this between us because otherwise something bad could happen to you...like getting shot down."

>Tha Matrix of Leadership is only supposed to work for those

This makes some sense. Insofar as I don't really understand The Matrix of Leadership but it passes the smell test.

Thanks.

the Transformers franchise has always been a special brand ADD film-making -- a sensory overload of incoherence, witless humor, female objectifying, xenophobia and racist caricatures. it's runaway success makes you question the things Americans find pleasure in.

setting that aside for a moment, I didn't mind this one (and I hated the first two). the first 90 minutes moved fastest to me. I liked Malkovich and others hamming it up, while Shia's job-hunting was more interesting / brief than his previous endeavors in high school and college.

the overly dramatic score (cue Lifehouse song!) was hilarious. the plot was stupid but more direct. the slow motion helped A LOT -- for the first time, I appreciated the action (freeway scene was legitimately well done).

worst part was in Chicago, surprisingly. humans shooting at 60-foot robots with machine guns is pretty uninspired, and I literally had a headache after an hour of non-stop THX explosions.

This was supposed to be the money shot like the Will Smith/Martin Lawrence shot in Bad Boys, and while that one was cheesy-yet-appropriate, the shot here was completely unnecessary...

It would almost be like if they hired Spike to direct a Transformers movie and in the middle of the action he'd cut to his famous dolly shot -- with Optimus Prime on the dolly.

If he shoots it like the Inside Man Denzel dolly shot right before the action started it'd be perfect.

Some of the best action sequences - CGI or Live action - that I've ever seen.

~ Highway car chase <-- basically, RONIN + TRANSFORMERS
~ Shockwave destroying building
~ Soldiers sky diving into Chicago
~ Optimus versus Sentinel versus Megatron

Once again, Optimus was the most compelling character - which is hilarious, given how hard Shia was trying to act - but he's always been the protagonist of Transformers to me. In fact, the Sentinel Prime/Optimus Prime/Megatron triangle probably would have been a better angle to play up. The MOON CONSPIRACY angle was wild boring, to me.

Shia's new love interest did a good job - she was more likable than Megan Fox and made more sense in the story. And I really dug the idea of human spies working for the Decepticons. Introducing transformer technology that works with human biology is just ASKING for a human/transformer hybrid at some point, right?

Overall, I dug this movie a lot and I hope it makes a shitload of money. I think Bay built a solid foundation for this franchise and there can easily be more Transformers movies. Just do them without Shia. He's the man in dramas, but always seems like a lightweight in action joints.

The past is my foundation, not my preoccupation.

...is a cameo by Buzz Aldrin, you know something is wrong.

The visuals of the last 40 minutes made it a film I didn't mind seeing but I also couldn't help but think that I wish those visuals had been in a better movie.

In the end, Transformers is a big budget, heavy FX version of the mediocre action movies of the 80's. They aren't necessarily good but they'll entertain most people and that's all that really matters.

The fight scene was visually stunning but it was kind of a clusterfuck in terms of where people were/what was happening. I wasn't sure how Optimus, who everyone was gunning for, managed to get tangled up like he did but no Decepticons took a shot at him.

And I'm 100% with you on the fact that the Autobots are like vintage Hulk Hogan - from almost getting choked out to beating up every single wrestler in the arena with no problem. There was no rhyme or reason given as to why they suddenly could kick ass IMO.

I think it was clear in the end that Bay knew he wasn't going to direct anymore Transformers movies and he just went off. I have no idea how they're going to do #4; they killed most of the main Decepticons.

I did the whole marathon so that I could watch 3 on Saturday. I thought the first two were pretty good. I'm a big sci-fi fan so these sorts of movies excite me.

It took me a while to warm up to Carly. I know Megan was basically fired from this Transfomers but it would've been nice if theere was a smoother transition aka background between his relationship ending with Fox and the start of this one.
Rosie lacks character depth. I mean she just looked like a supermodel who got thrown in there. I think Megan Fox is a better actress. But Rosie is prettier, I guess. Megan is overrated to me but Rosie isn't much different, she has fake-looking lips too, moreso than Megan's. If they just dressed Rosie in more regular clothes and gave her a less-glamourous job, she would've been more credible.

I was expecting more from Ken Jeong's role. His character was really funny but it bordered on awkward. And then the next moment, he was gone.

John Malkovich was a strange character as well. I think he was supposed to add more comedy and humor but it was too similar to Agent Seymour Simmons. Could've done without him.

Frances McDormand played an effective bitch. I enjoyed Carly's jab at her. Especially cause Sam was too scared to.

The action was great in this movie. Certainly it was long but I didn't feel that way. Shockwave seems like the most fearsome, destructive decepticon. Why Megatron is supposedly more powerful is beyond me. He looked so silly in this one. I wonder what happened with the twin autobots from 2, i would've liked to to see them in 3.

The humans gliding down was pretty cool too. Its amazing they didn't get shot down, knowing how precise and effective killers the decepticons are.

The choice of Chicago for the setting of the movie was a nice change from the usual large cities like LA and NYC that we see in a lot of blockbusters.

Bumble Bee and Optimus Prime are still my favorite autobots. Optimus is THAT mack truck. He's such a stud. lol. Bumble Bee is quiet, charming but steadfast. I was really sad about Ironhide. He was probably my second favorite autobot.

I don't know that there should be a 4th movie, but if they make one, with or without Shia, I'll watch it. He's definitely a core character but I watched this movie because of the autobots, not him. I don't know how they'd replace him or if they'd just do away with Sam and find another character.

How did Sentinel Prime make a deal with Megatron and end up crash landing on the moon in the 60's if Megatron had been on Earth since the lat 19th century and been in the Hoover Dam since the 30's?

Because it seems odd that the Decepticons had been planning things since the 60's on Earth even though they both seemed like they'd never heard of Earth before they arrived in the first movie. Also, I guess Shockwave was heading up the plans with the humans in the 60's since Megatron was frozen in the Hoover Dam (although he still really acted like it was all his plan in this film.)

Also, I thought they really missed an opportunity for a great opening scene. I think it would have been better to establish that the Earth now had better defense planning to prevent the Decepticons from flying in (hence the reason they needed the pillar bridge to get to Earth to attack it). I would have preferred a bad ass battle scene in the beginning with the humans/autobots having an upper hand, forcing a Starscream led attack from landing on Earth (but maybe a couple sneak onto Earth to help put the Moon plan into action). Save the heavy moon landing exposition to a bit later.

That would have been much better than the completely random Middle East attack scene they threw in there.

Also, I think internal beef between Megatron and Shockwave (who should have been implementing the Earth plan) and Sentinel would have made those characters stronger and not forced them to rely on the corny, out of the blue mindfuckery of Megatron by Carly in the flick.

I'll say this, the plot doesn't make a lot of sense. The twist was predictable, but hey I guess if you're gonna get rid of a great character quickly that's one way to do it.

The wreckers were a great addition to the team, but my question is and will always remain, why is it 200 against 7? Seriously 7 autobots and an entire city of decepticons WTF.

- I'm just at the point where i've resigned myself to the fact that they don't give Tyrese any lines they just let him do what he think his character would say "aww yea ya'll come with us" Oh my that's bad.

- Seeing Terry Tate office Linebacker was an added unexpected plus.

- Soundwave was really small compared to Megatron which i didn't think was true at all, but hey you've got to find a way to make the scale work. But Shockwave on the other hand was enormous! Not the damn building eater thing, but the actual robot was HUGE. Prime served that fool though.

- The only robots you get real close looks at are (Optimus, Bee, Sentinel, Megtron, and Starscream) everyone else you sort of have to guess what they look like. That pisses me off, this is a movie about the robots, fuck Sam, Fuck carley, and why and in blue hell fuck couldn't they have used an alleyway in DC?

- So the Autobots went from staging a surprise attack to captured in 3 frames. Heavy editing, i'm sure that was a running time casualty that they just figured people wouldn't care about.

- I tried explaining to my man why there's no explosions in space and he wasn't hearing me "They're robots they could ride with the windows down if they wanted to"

- All in all fun SUPER mindless flick I probably would've disliked more if it were for the IMAX and 3-D

Too much CG being thrown at the audience without explanation!

- We first have to understand why in the hell would the leader Autobot(Sentinel Prime) at the time leave battle against his foe on a remote planet just to bring some control tubes to Earth to build a bridge to the planet(Cybertron)that his foe(Megatron)help destroy. What would be the purpose of needing to make a deal with Megatron exactly? Megatron just sat around and gloated about being a lame ass for the entire film. What exactly was Sentinel Prime relying on him for made no sense. Couldn't he have just waited for Optimus Prime to arrive later and talk about the possibility of building the space bridge to Cybertron to get the rest of the Autobots from Cybertron?

- Besides the core three Transformers (Ironhide, Optimus & Bumblebee) plus Sentinel Prime and the other Decepticons (Soundwave, Megatron, Starscream and Shockwave) did they mind explaining who the hell the other 20+ Transformers where? Besides the Wreckers and Brains there was barely any mention of the other's names....

- Sam's parents, again, the mom is supposed to be funny but she's annoying and unbelievable as a character. I wish Starscream would have killed both of them off earlier. Would have made the final battle between Sam and Starscream much more epic.

-Lazerbreak just goes around killing NASA scientists like it ain't sh@#. In the last film there was a Pretender that was trying to kill Sam. Wouldn't make sense for Decepticons to use more of them to get the damn job done?

people are mostly defending themselves and their own personal reasons why enjoy the movies for what they are- more to the point, defending themselves from a bevy of personal attacks on their intellect.

i really don't see much defending of the movies.
in fact, everyone pretty much acknowledges the faults present across the board. the people who enjoyed the movies largely see the same faults the people who hate it see; the divide comes from the fact that the people who enjoy it are able to enjoy it despite it's faults. somehow, the assumption in here is that if something is fundamentally flawed, even deeply flawed, then somehow that means that you cannot- and should not still enjoy it.

personally, i'd like to see what you see that amounts to an actual defense of the franchise, as opposed to a defense of their own personal reasons for not hating it so bad they want the forced sterilization of anyone who doesn't. there is a very real distinction between enjoying something for what it is while recognizing it's faults, and *defending* those faults.

Let's be real. A lot of people who support Palin like her because she's better to look at than most other conservatives pols and knows how to throw a rally. The message she brings is usually something they can get behind, even if they know that it is half-baked.

The diehards think Palin should be President but most people just like her as a commentator or whatever.

Kind of like Transformers, people aren't saying that Palin should be President or the greatest thinker on Earth, just someone they agree with or think isn't terrible to listen to/look at.

even at 2.5 hours i found myself entertained just about the entire movie. visually it was good to see the frenetic editing toned down a bit which made the action on scene much easier to digest compared to the past 2 movies. audio was every bit as big as the visuals. no complaints about any of the actors, they all did their part in a movie that didn't really require much.

couple cringe worthy moments for me were some of the song choices and cues used in the movie. corny.

and as far as what the title of this post is referencing are parts such as Optimus Prime getting caught up in steel cables?!!?!?! are you fucking serious?????? steel cables??!??!?! these damn transformers are punching through buildings and shit but he can't bust through a couple cables? and why the fuck didn't he pull out that sword he always has tucked away in his arm??!?! he was caught up in that shit for like 30 minutes while chicago is getting torn apart? furthermore, not one of the 200 supposed decepticons in the city took advantage of that shit?!?!?! this scene and others like it just piss me off in the theater when i'm watching.

but again, i enjoyed the shit out of this movie.

The Sentinel Prime twist was cool.

That red Autobot that transforms into a Ferrari reminds me of Unit 2 in Evangelion, I like it. The Decepticon designs were shitty though, you can't even tell what they transform into.

lmao @ "Shoot the glass!!"

HOW did Bumblebee get captured? It's not like he lost his weapon since he uses his arm to fire shots! As soon as the distractions came before his execution, he started firing again, wtf he couldn't have done that earlier lol?

There was a bit too much (metallic) tentacles in this movie for my liking. Also thought the 3D was useless as usual.
