the soundtrack is hot as hell too. up there with bebop.

i am sure this is a popular one that has been mentioned many timee but i thought i'd mention it anyway.

I ain't the most knowledgable in the world of Anime but i got hooked into this and f*ckin love it. cool story. nice story twists. great characters. badass weapons and gadgets. even a nice soundtrack (save that horrible end title). alla round good fun.

But it is def one of those that you gotta watch every ep from start to finish.

Check out Rahxephon, one of the biggest copycat anime's ive ever scene. Enough that I imagine that when they were creating a script, they sat in a room with the Evangelion screenplay and just copy/pasted at will. Buts its DESPITE this that I recommend this series, its just well done, and imho does alot of things right that Eva falters at.

Rahxephon dose just about the same thing that Dual: Parallel Adventure does but with EVA and Tenchi.

But for some reason they do it so well, it doesn't really matter.

Never finished it. Didn't hold my attention.

But for some reason, I could fade Dual. Maybe it's because you're in on the joke. I found that out rageous situations and comedy much more entertaining here.

Rahxephon, is just dope. Possbibly since the director isn't in the middle of a nervous breakdown and no one is threatening to pull project funding every week. It flows so much better than EVA and the payoff is more satisfying. Both shows are on the same level to me though.

Oh yeah, Rah is NOT a remake of EVA. It takes a lot of hits from it, yes, but after doing some research, Rah is a homage to this show....

Gundam Seed

The character designs are not that hot but the show has slowly grown on me. What started as a modernized rehash of the original Gundam, has slowly spiraled into a pretty grim war stroy that takes parallels with current day events. Governments starting wars for selfish reasons and prejudice. Add a dash of good ol' fashioned soapy drama and you may have something that feels like the first time you saw Robotech Macross Saga. Last ep. of the series should show up next week.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

This is TV version seperate from the movie and is closer in tone and feel to the manga. Even with the changes, it's still a really nice detective show. Not an action show, a detective show. While there are some nice fights and gun battle in this series, it's more concerned with the ramifications of a totally wired civilization and the measures that a security agency in charge of keeping track of cyber crimes has to go to in order to keep the balance. The soundtrack seems to be inspired by 4Hero too.

Another surprisingly good action miniseries about a paper mage who acts as an agent for the Library Special Operations. Some of the best animated action I've seen in a long time.

The Japanese name is too damn long so I've just abbreviated it here but the show is nuts. It's a parody of Sentai/Masked Hero shows and just about every anime cliche out there. Not as out there as FLCL but close.

Animation was unpoint, and they take an unlike premise and make it believable and fun. One of the best 'series' I saw last year. I hear they are planning a normal series to come out this year/next year.

BTW, have you seen Wolf's Rain. I want to love the series, but it bores the fuck out of me. Same with Noir.

Sort of the same way GITS:SAC isn't necessarily an action show, Wolf's Rain isn't necessarily a straight forward adventure show. It's more of a down tempo fairy tale.

I was having problems with it too but I loved the art and the concepts they were throwing at me so I adjusted my approach to the show. I enjoyed it more when I just payed attention to the events, and the effect it had on each of the characters instead of lingering for a cool fight scene every ep. It's much more effective if you take the time to pay attention to the mythology that they lay out for you along the way.

Still, it's not for everyone and I guess it's Studio Bones way of letting people know that they're not getting pigeon holed into doing Bebop style action all the time.

Another thing, it's TV run was not the whole story. A four episode, direct to video series will wrap up the whole story.

About the ROD TV, it's not about "The Paper". It seems she has been missing for a number of years. The show is about her old roommate and a trio of sisters who have been enlised as her body guards. Somehow, they have the same paper mage abilities as Ms. Readman but they have never heard of her. I think a search for "The Paper" will begin once all the characters have been introduced.

I don't know how they did it on a tv budget but the paper animation is just as tight as the OVA.

Hell, I even digged Gundam Wing....

Now G-Gundam was out there....the robots look effin' crazy (Dark Gundam was a effin Gundam head with a Gundam coming out of it's head). The story had a nice concept, but I dunno...some of it was just as out there as the Gundams (Dark Gundam cells and ish like that).

Both are miniseries like O8th and have equal animation quality.

Stardust is a good ol', overdramatic, mecha bashing action story about a rookie pilot who get's thrown into the action during a Zeon last strike at earth.

War in the Pocket uses the war as a backdrop to a childs life in a colony. Unfortunatly it comes crashing into his everyday life when he get's mixed up with a Zeon spy looking for the latest Gundam.

It's the same basic story with a few twist.

The colonies are, for the most part, populated with genetically altered humans. They're better at everything and have already in the middle of a big war with Earth that is at a stalemate with a peaceful colony nuked and Earth getting zapped with a super weapon that renders all nuclear fusion useless.

The main story is about how a the colonies have stolen four of Earth's new mobile weapons, Gunadams, and are about to deal and finishing blow to the Earth. Fortunately for the Earth, they failed to get one, the Strike Gundam and it's support ship the Archangel. From there the show takes MANY dramtic, politcal, and technological twist that lead in to a three sided civil war by the final episodes.

The saving grace for the show was the decent amout of character development as the show moved along. There is a large cast. But to the show's credit, just about everyone's motivations and personal delimas get a decent once over during the couse of the series.

I dunno about the genetically enhanced humans vs humans, but it sounds good...I might have to check this out.

...just altered to be better than the average human physically and cognitively. To be honest, the way it's laid out in the show, it comes of as a scientific PR stunt that went wildly out of control due to over obsessive scientist.

Unfortunatly it doesn't keep them from being as sadistic assholes.

Kicked ass! It was not just a shot em up show. It showed emotions and the choices of life and death. The main character is a 6th(?) grade boy who lives on a nuetral colony. He runs across a downed Zaku and it's pilot. The boy named Alfred helps the Downed Zaku pilot named Bernie, do "spy" stuff. But Alfreds good friend is a Confederate MS pilot. So eventually Both Bernie and Alfreds good friend fight each other, and who dies? Well your gonna have to find out.

Solid series, good animation, great story line & action. Starts off a lil' slow, but mid way kicks into high gear. Also the Samurai X OVA is great, much darker, more violent, really helps you understand Kenshin's past, and gives you a new respect for Kenshin.

I'm glad Cartoon Network brought this to cable....now they need to show the OAVs just like they're doing with Dragon Ball Z. The OAVs are more serious compared to the series, though (With some surprises)

They would edit the crap out of it. Maybe its better left alone. WHo knows if they do start the Adult Swim channel, we may see more things like that. One can only hope.

Samurai X movies is on Comcast’s On Demand service…there’s a lot of cool anime on there.

problem is they don't chage it enough. I got Comcast Digigtal a few months ago & it was on there....and it still on there. LOL But something is better than nothing.

I need a verdict for this one....yay or nay?

I so wanted to like this but it seems they are padding out a very basic story with some cool looking but weak villians of the week.

I may go back and try it again but after about 7 eps. the real story was just getting started and I didn't care any more.

What are some of the good things about the series....anyone from the original movie show up (the 8 Devils of Kimon, Dakuwan, Kagero, etc)?

The art and animation are nice but the budget shows through when you get a lot of still shots and slow pans of scenery. There are some good fights but most are too short.

It is it's own story and none of the Devils of Kimone show up. Instead we get two warring sets of "devils". One group rolling through the countryside killing anyone in their way and another that seems to be directly opposing them. Thus, you get every ep. with a gaggle of mutant, sperpowered, henchmen comming out of the woodwork.

Nice designs and some cool abilities but far too weak when it comes to facing off with Jubei. Maybe it was a sign that while these first batch of thugs looked hype, they were just scrubs *shrug* but it was getting old quick.

Like I said before, when I stopped watching the real story was just getting started after a handful of eps. waffling around in the woods. They did start a storyline that kind of explained that all these freaks are actually humans with mutant abilities. Which sides of the coin they fall on, good or evil, depneds on their motivation in life. I may give it a chance again either by renting or just waiting until it get's on Adult Swim.
