i just couldnt stand that they switched character roles from the comics, basically making rogue into jubilee from the comics and really not getting into the relationships between characters and villians that made the comics so dope... i understand its a movie, but even the Xmen cartoon was pretty much dead on with the comics... it just bugged the hell out of me

the movies SHOULDN'T be just like the comics...they reimagined parts of the universe, and they needed a young girl to play "prospective student" they coulda done kitty pryde, but it's been done...why NOT rogue? and WHAT are you talkin bout with the relationships shit?? all that fuckin convolution would NOT work in the movies...they kept it simple "charles and magnus used to be homies, but due to vastly differents endgame ideals, they ain't no mo"....doing any other shared backstory (other than say wolvy and cree know each other) is just...wack....i HATED the x-men cartoon of the '90's...glad they did do that BS...

really happened lol ... what the fuck do you mean "what else could they have done?" ... they could have done it like it how it was originally written... rogues character wasnt even important throughout the last 2 movies, they could have done the same shit and just actually made it jubilee and it would have been practically the same... hell they could have even made rogue an actual x-men member as an adult instead too... why was that so impossible to do?

Logan and Rogue were not a couple but teamed up quite a few times since she saved his finance and he wouldn't hesitate to pop a claw in her ass if she acted up.

but they DIDN'T...and are you seriously arguing that Jubilee is a more popular charactwer as Rougue and would have worked in the plot given?? again, it was the best thing they coulda done...i like jubs, but NOBODY really gives a fuck a about her....and as i said before, comic movies are adaptaions,, they shouldn't just copy erything from the comics, ESP convoluted ones like XMen...i know you pissy they didn't use lil Jubs, but using her makes lil sense unless you fanboyin...

you act like rogue is some well known popular character to the majority of the human population or something, like she has her own popular spin off comic/cartoon series or something and everyone knows who she is... they could have used either one and it would have been the same fuckin movie... people who dont know about xmen wouldnt of known the difference... and people who did, who you would consider fan boys i guess, wouldnt have perceived it as just a random character change that really served no purpose... the funny thing is, i wasnt even into xmen all like that, it was cool, but i wouldnt consider myself a fan boy... the fact that you are arguing that they used rogue instead of jubilee because of her popularity is fuckin retarded tho

1 - I came to see X-Men, not "Wolverine and his Uncanny Friends".

2 - In the first one they make a big deal about how the X-Men train their powers to perfection in order to protect the world, but as soon as we see them together in action at the end they get their asses handed to them. Quickly.

The only one that actually felt like a real X-Men story was the 3rd one.

What I got out of that film was that they created an anti-mutant vaccine, it ended up not being permanent, all the mutants regained their powers after the movie was over, and the whole flick was for absolutely nothing.

you could tell those flicks were more about star power than them actually getting it right.

with the exception of patrick stewart, damn near everyone else was wrong, ESPECIALLY halle as storm. (wtf?)

the scripts were horrible. the dialogue was bad.

they just weren't good flicks.

minus the web shooting being part of his body instead of a mechanical device that was man made... and some other minor differences, the plot and origin were pretty much dead on compared to any other comic movies, its why Spider Man (the first one) is my favorite comic book movie to date

He's had web shooters since Amazing Fantasy #15, bruh. And they actually reverted back to webshooters again with the "Brand New Day" relaunch of "Amazing Spider-Man", so it's been at least a couple months.

Changing classic comic cannon to tie in with the Hollywood movie is some extra bullshit if you ask me.

is so straight-forward and by-the-book that the movie does little for you but regurgitate. It tells the story you already know, and indeed had hoped to see, but it doesn't at all make it fresh (see "Superman the Movie" and "Batman" for more successful attempts)

If you don't know much about Spider-man, the film works a lot better.

they omitted an integral part of Spider Man's character not writing him as a relentless smartass...the right writer could've given the whole trilogy an entirely different edge if they had played up Spidey's defiance in the face of danger, no matter the magnitude...

Also: Thomas Jane SUCKED as Punisher. The Frank Castle that I envision is more of a late 40-something scruffy looking hard-ass with a sadistic sense of humor. Like a Nick Cage or a Bruce Willis type, but not necessarily them. Thomas Jane, simply put, was too young and pretty to play a convincing Punisher.

Also (Part 2): When making future Punisher movies, the powers that be need to quit bullshittin', tryna tow this fine line between PG-13 & R. Yes the last Punisher flick got an R rating, but aside from a few titty shots in the skrupp club and some occasional coarse language, there wasn't really much to justify it. They should go for an unapologetic hard 'R'/borderline NC-17 rating, which would free them up to have some real over the top/bordering on comical style violence, in the vein of some Kill Bill or Lock, Stock, & 2 Smoking Barrels type shit, where each subsequent bad guy bites it in some new and increasingly more inventive way.

But yeah, more dark. That's a start.

In response to Reply # 9

1) That stupid Henri Ducard/Ras Al Gul switcheroo plotline. The need to deviate from the comic by making two separate unique and intriguing characters into one person was completely unnecessary.

2) Batman's utter failure in movie after movie to protect his secret identity. Pushing my hatred of all things Katie Holmes aside, the question still remains: Why does every broad that Bruce hooks up with in every Batman get the obligatory tour of the Batcave the morning after? That shit's a resthaven for hoes! (c) The Mack

3) It would've made for a better story if Holmes' character had died after she got poisoned by Scarecrow. Not to mention it would've excused issue #2 stated above by showing the consequences of what happens when the enigmatic Mr. Wayne lets people get too close.

4) This tends to be a problem with most franchise superhero movies, but the Batman movies are some of the worst culprits: Why must there always be two or more villains for Batman to face? Can't we tell a decent story without cramming it full of villains? I woulda been cool with just a Ras Al Gul story. Fuck a Scarecrow.

5) In the clamactic finale, our hero has a knock down drag out battle in a race against time on a runaway train.

Waitaminnit... Wasn't that the end of Spider-Man 2? Yawn.

6) Minor shit, but still not a fan of the rubber suit.

7) Also minor, but not so into the Bat-Tank either. Maybe for special occasions, but as Batman's primary means of transportation? Not so much. I prefer my Batmobiles to be sleek, kick-ass, kitted up sports cars, thank you.

Batman Begins was not a terrible movie by any means. Nolan gets props for getting down to the nitty gritty of Bruce Wayne's psyche and what makes him tick. But I think Batman Begins gets more credit than it deserves from a lot of people just for not being as shitty as past Batman movies have been. Think Common dropping Be after Electric Circus, for example.

The good news is that Batman Begins is the best live action Batman movie to date.

The bad news is that there still has yet to be a live action Batman movie that fully gets it right.

Commence with the tomato pelting.

In spite of everything stated above, I'm still geeked about the upcoming Dark Knight movie.

From the opening scene you knew how it would end.

And the scene with Spiderman running in front of the American flag. Me and my girl busted out laughing in the theatre. That had to have been a joke, right?

- There was a pretty big stretch of the film in which you could have completely forgotten that you were watching Spider-Man instead of some romantic drama.

I forgot where I read it, but someone described the movie as the first action chick flick. Pretty accurate.

- Venom didn't need to be in there at all

I blame the producers. There's no other explanation for why such talented writers and director who clearly understands the comic book movie genre would totally break the rules like that. They must have been told that they needed to make that the ending. I can't buy anything else.

Singer mentioned more than a few times that he doesn't read comics, so I wouldn't put the blame on the producers.

I'd argue that while he made two decent movies based on comics, he doesn't understand comic books. I saw him speak at a Wondercon right before "Superman Returns" was released, and it was palpable how little he cared about comic books and how uncomfortable he was being questioned about a comic book character, rather than a character from the two Richard Donner movies.

picked an actor that looks more like Alex Ross' Superman (http://fuzzyblowfish.com/kingdomcomeross.jpg) instead of modeling him after the Christopher Reeve type Superman.

And they should have filmed it like they did "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" giving everything a late 1930's-early 1940's feel.

(which is not the same as "unrealistic", because there's nothing realistic about Bruce Banner turning green and cock diesel when he gets peeved either)

The film literally turned into a cartoon at that point. And the fact that that fight went on forever didn't help things.

I don't have as much of a problem with the rest of the film, until we get to the last reel or so. The fight versus the Army was pretty good stuff. The fight versus daddy...not so much.

I can see the argument about the animation, but we both know that the people calling out the Hulk dogs are simply talking about the concept, not how it was rendered.

Oh, and Ang Lee originally wanted the fight to go on for 16-20 minutes.

The second half of the movie is pretty action packed, which is why the complaints about not enough shit getting broken always seemed hollow for me. The final fights with his pops was lackluster, but I did like that whole "I came here to see my real son" part. Nolte did his thing. I don't care what anyone says.

So all the "men in tights" movies end up looking silly to me.

Obviously, it's still possible to make it a good movie, but you're kinda starting in the hole.

I can't put that on Miller's writing. The dialogue sounded fine when the actors committed to it. That's the reason That Yellow Bastard went over so well, since Willis was putting in work. But when mofos like Madsen phoned it in, it sounded horrible.

The only thing they definitely should have taken out of the script were all the descriptions of sounds. They were needed in the comic but not in a movie where you can, y'know, actually hear shit.

Fun is the new gritty

much of the monologues in Sin City were totally out of place in a movie script -- because like you said, it's a fucking movie!

just like you write a novel different from a comic, they needed to chop a good bit of those descriptive phrases from the movie

- gratuitous use of slow-motion taken to new levels
- horrible, overacted WWF speeches every five minutes
- repetitive action scenes of 360-degree Matrix sword swinging
- again, the awkward use of Miller's writing when it's spoken and not read inside your head

Some of those are reasonable arguments against the film but you are going overboard on alot. To say everything? Really? FOH.

They managed to create a connection between the audience and King Leonidas and the Spartans whereas in the comic they just came off as these barbaric animalistic society of bloodthirsty warriors. The dialogue was not completely on par with the comic like Sin City so I'm not sure why you threw that argument out there, guess you just felt like mimicking the Sin City arguments up top.

The scene between Leonidas and the Persian was superbly done and the dialogue was changed to make the King's choice for opposition against Xerxes as virtuous and morally steadfast whereas in the comic he just seemed like he was trying to show how big his dick is in the most arrogant sense.

Shit, have you even READ the comic???

the fact that the wachowski bros. directed kinda did it in. as much of a stank as pple made about the philosophy aspects of the matrix 2/3 they are kinda known for doing an action scene proper...v for vendetta was not meant to be like that

i liked it, though
