1) 75% of them are used. I know a spot locally that sells used DVDs for dirt cheap prices. You can buy 5 for $20, so I usually scoop up whatever.

2) I bought two people's entire collections, each like 300. One back in 2000 when I first started collecting and one two years ago when DVD-R prices went way down and a co-worker burned all his and sold me his collection.

There's only one obscure-DVD store in all of Memphis. RENTAL ONLY. Bastard. I bet he asks for hundreds for an unopened "Pink Lady and Jeff" DVD on ebAY. Dude is really slowing down the movement.

Whatever DVD-Rs I have aren't on there. That story meant that when the dude bought a DVD-burner, he sold the real copies of all his stuff to me.

>There's only one obscure-DVD store in all of Memphis.

I'm sure there are more, just don't know about them.

Also, I forgot that I get DVDs from a certain Canadian company, who distributes Miramax, New Line, and a bunch of foreign flicks for free.

I go to a local joint called Spin Street here in town.

http://www.spinstreet.com

And would you believe that THIS is where I found my copy of "Supervixens"? You have to see the place to really feel what I'm saying.

Other than that, it's Amazon--various DVD-R sites--no eBay, though.

I'm limited here in Memphis, but I do what I can to make each purchase count towards the "theme" of my collection.

*hugs you*

I'll say this for my twenty-three (?) little DVD's--there's a THEME. Can you SEE it?

I'm trying to concentrate on rock musicals, sexploitation, grindhouse and drive-in stuff...and weird/obscure TV shows.

I'd have a LOT more if they didn't have this thing called "rent." And more than that if I made a little more money. So I try to make it count whenever I get a new one.

Mm-MM-mmmm.

Maybe it's because I haven't bumped into anyone who appreciates my tastes in a long time? I can't really screen a lot of my stuff with my family or friends.

I miss being able to screen my Russ Meyer movies and have them appreciated, instead of deconstructed by armchair feminists and people who want a "Little Man" sequel. It's hard down here for a pimp.

ABBA was one of the greatest groups ever. I encourage anyone who's only heard 'Dancing Queen' to listen to more of their work. After that, if you still don't recognize the appeal of them, something is wrong with you. Actually, i know you love them but you're too afraid to admit it. *Listens to Nina, Pretty Ballerina*

Doesn't that sound like a pleasant night at home? First you watch Audition and you vomit all over yourself and your loved ones, and then you watch the ABBA movie to dance around with a mop as you clean it up.

...it's a trailer compilation, of course. (I like trailer compilations, and I wish I could get a hold of "Bruce Lee and Kung-Fu Mania" again, but I digress.)

The trailers run in blocks, like a sci-fi block, a 70's porn block, a Christina Lindberg block and so on.

I DO recommend it. And Synapse says that Volume II is on the way.

Lost:

My entire Russ Meyer "Vixen" series, on a Greyhound bus back from Canada.

Holy grail(s):

One of them is "FM."
And Amazon dealers want above $100 for it. I just can't rationalize that into a smart investment, but DAMMIT. I want that movie.

Another is only on VHS--the forgotten Chevy Chase film "Under the Rainbow." Saw it at the theatre--Skinemax used to show it constantly in the eighties. Would a DVD release draw the ire of little people in today's "let's-get-back-to-being-politically-incorrect" America? Dunno.

I got my eyes on some grindhouse gold, though...a Mondo boxset featuring "Goodbye Uncle Tom."

No, as I recall, the "censored version" is the only option on DVDaf. To my knowledge, my copy isn't censored, but I haven't actually watched it yet.

I got a really good deal on it at DDD. It was cheaper than buying all the seasons separately. And it has beautiful packaging - pink suede with a clear lucite "slipcover."

Obviously, I disagree.

In response to Reply # 57

I got the two of them for 10 bucks on eBay, brand new each.

As for my "L"s, The Kid I maintain is a good kids movie. I don't think Bruce Willis has been that funny and charming since the Die Hards, nowadays he's always the serious guy. Plus, there's something about that Spencer Breslin kid that makes me laugh. He was the new Jonathan Lipnicki in that movie.

And The Island I defended pretty loyally on here. I got both The Kid and The Island as the 4th movie in a Blockbuster "4 for $20" deal, and I'm pretty happy about owning both of them. I got a pretty damn good kids movie, and an action movie that I personally think is one of Michael Bay's better outings. Sure, it's ridiculous, but it was a shitload of fun.

Also, I like how your collection goes from The Critic to CYE to Marx Brothers to Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo. To me, that says, "I have good taste, I have good taste, I have good taste, I frequent the bargain bin."

In response to Reply # 82

The rest of Rob Schneider's movies suck, but every snob who I've shown Deuce Bigalow too has ended up admitting it's funny. However, it's true that I got it in the bargain bin.

And Good Burger is a Top 5 live action kids movie of all TIME. Yes, I said it.

If you wanna see white people fuck up that badly, just turn into C-SPAN more regularly.

Do you ever watch Juwanna Mann, Crossroads, Girl Next Door, Brooklyn Babylon, White Chicks, and get all nostalgic for the money that you used to have?

Also, if you're gonna tell me you own some of these titles for a particularly attractive female lead, then I'm gonna tell you to find a cheaper way to jack off.

But I don't know what's more of a waste of money: that you own six seasons of Seinfeld when there's at least two episodes on TV every night or that you actually bought a copy of Waiting?

On behalf of the Official Ryan Reynolds Fan Club, Alanis and I would like to remind you that the complete box set of Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place comes out next Tuesday!

It's funny when you've worked at a restuarant, and that was a 10 buck Blockbnuster used purchase.

As for Seinfeld, I like having them so I don't have to watch the same five eps over and over on Fox and such.

I'd just like to say that, aside from Enter The Dragon, your oldest movie is Boyz In The Hood. I don't really have anything funny to comment about that, but I do hope you're enjoying your Gnarls Barkley CD.

BTW, do you already have a spot saved on your shelf for Snakes On A Plane?

I like how you have these movies like Love Actually, Love & Basketball, and Notting Hill to appeal to women, but Save The Last Dance is just trying too hard, especially when all the wrestling tapes and LOTR just scream, "I own multiple open bottles of Jergens."

BTW, when's the One On One box set coming out?

The Exorcism of Emily Rose or waking up one day to realize you paid actual legal tender to own a David Blaine DVD?

Dude tried to hold his breath under water for nine minutes, and I bet he couldn't even stomach what you accomplished there.

Or did your money just levitate out your pocket with that one?
