I did not see it at the theater because I decided to go ahead and buy the DvD. I fell asleep on it and I still yet have not looked at it again. It's been over a month now. I guess I will get around to it b4 the next one comes out......sigh

9 times out of 10, I agree completely with the stuff you say.
Departed = incredibly overrated. Are you telling me that of all of the so-called film scholars in here, nobody found the editing to be annoying, the acting to be (poorly) over-the-top, and the tension to be relatively non-existent? Two positive things I will say about the movie: a) Marty knows how to shoot violence and b) I am glad he shot coke use well, but why did it take him so many years of sobriety to do so?
The thing I don't get is this: people on this board LOVE Goodfellas, but are creaming themselves all over the Departed. The Departed = the last 30 minutes of Goodfellas but stretched out even longer. When everything is that fast-paced, nothing is fast-paced. Its kind of the opposite of the Last Samurai problem, which is that when everything is done in slo-mo, nothing in slo-mo matters any more. I just feel that Marty felt a little desperate for an Oscar so he tried to recreate some of the things he is best known for in the hopes that he will finally get that little golden statue.

I got up in the middle of it & had a long conversation on my cell phone in the back of the theater. I was going to feel bad about it till I noticed there were a couple other people back there doin the same thing complainin how bad it was & that they'd be leaving earlier than expected. True story.
