This was from this morning's KTLA Morning Show:
"The (issue) is, you have an actor who's trying to be a comedian, who doesn't know what to do when an audience is disruptive. Now, I do, and people do... You know, it's like a cop with a gun. You don't relinquish your gun, but if a guy's not a cop in a uniform they're going to get the gun from them, man... This guy doesn't know what he's doing, he's an actor whose show has been off the air. He shouldn't ever be on a standup stage, he's not a standup, he should stick to acting. I mean, if he can't find work after (his show's over), then go live off of your residual money... but, you know, you've got a cowboy trying to be a cowboy because he has a rope. A rope doesn't make you a cowboy, nor do the shoes... this guy's ridiculous... we're professionals, we've been doing it for 25-plus years... if someone's disruptive, I know how to handle them without using the N word..."
(after the notion that "anything goes" in a comedy club is brought up): "No, it's not 'at a comedy club, anything goes.' There are things you back away from. You know, that's what comedy is... comedy is going to the line and not crossing it and letting people kind of make their own judgments in between the lines themselves. That's why some people 'get it,' and some people don't get it. But when you use the N word I think everybody gets what you're trying to say... Inherently, what's unfortunate about that is that deep down inside everyone, we all have views that are biased against other people, but, look, if you snap, as in traffic, you know, I heard a lot of things... people told me to go back to where I came from one time while I was driving, and I'm from Mission Hills (CA)... this is just a guy, (who's) angry and frustrated with his inability to be a comedian..."
(when asked how mad he's gotten at hecklers and if the heckling ever throws him off): "It's not supposed to throw you off, you deal with it... You go, 'You know, I remember my first drink', you know, there are a lot of tame ones, like 'If I wanted any lip from you...' that kind of stuff, or 'If I wanted to hear from a...' there's a lot of them. And a lot of (insults) are stock because it's like where you need to go so you don't go to this place. But have I ever yelled at somebody, have I ever been upset on stage? Absolutely, we all have."
(when asked what Richards should do now): "First of all, you can probably start by never stepping on a stage again unless you're really prepared and have material that's funny. Look, if someone is yelling at you that you're not funny, you're not funny. Because if they're laughing they don't have time to yell. So, he's not funny." _________________________________________________________________________ ZOOTOWN WILL RETURN IN OCTOPUSSY
