I'm not questioning you, but other than the name-dropping of obscure European directors, I don't get the appeal of this film (although I did get a laugh out of the Forrest Gump sequel scene). Enlighten me

I love Cecil B. Demented. What an excellent attack against everything wrong with the movies! An unapologetic, uncompromising, even violent attack on the money-men behind the scenes and the sell outs in front of the camera. It's great stuff. It's a very fun movie too. Extremely silly. Every once in a while it's nice to say goodbye to politeness and "being reasonable" and just say "I hate all this bullshit." John Waters does just that in Cecil B. Demented and somehow manages NOT to look like an asshole in the process. Good for him. That's what I say.

Bitch, that wasn't even a good POPCORN movie.

I didn't see the sequel (even though I heard it was good) cause the first was just a one trick pony. Chase chase chase Jason Bourne....plot development? WHO CARES? JUST CHASE THE DUDE.

Pile of shit it was.

Go ahead. You know you agree with me.

You are missing some points here.

A)The Identity series is a known triology, so anyone that knows the series knows that the first one is not stand alone. That explains the gaping holes in the plot -- there are supposed to be holes in the plot.

B)Sure, its a chase movie, but the way a "normal" person is worked into the conflict, and how Bourne exposes all sorts of shady shit is interesting. The European touch is key...adds flavor to the scenery....makes it more interesting. Because of the political diversity in Europe, we don't know who, or what is responsible for Bourne.....you always assume the Russians, but you never really know. I like that.

C)The acting was good. Hell, I'll take Damon's acting in this movie over 'Good Will hunting'. Dude looks like he genuinely has no idea what the fuck is going on....except he seems to be programmed with these awesome instincts....he knows more than he can access consciously, and whoops ass without a blink. Dope.

D)The yt girl is cute as they go, probably because she has that alternative european style. It makes her more compelling. Sure its Hollywood magic that they met...but I still like it.

E)I sorta already mentioned this, but I like how Bourne's creators really do not have their shit together...their lives are just as sloppy as his...I hate movies where the conspirator is just perfect...not true in Bourne Identity...lots of dirt.

F)I like Bourne Supremacy too. I liked it alot, however, specifically because it was set up great by Identiy.

G)Sucka mcees cannot diss OE, cuz the nigga gets hoes and likes good movies.

In response to Reply # 27

But Two Towers was the only great movie of the three.

Fellowship was straight and ROTK had 600 battles and endings and hyper-dramatic "fight to the death!!!" phrases. I'd rather watch the ROTK trailer than the movie.

The battle of Helm's deep was the best battle of the entire trilogy, by far. It actually had some drama to it, some specific drama, and not just generic good/evil drama like all the battles in ROTK.

I like the splitting of the fellowship and how each is on their own journey.

Treebeard could have been butchered, but was handled very well. The Ents were cool, dude.

Yeah, I can just watch Two Towers from now on and smile. Shit was blaze.

but otherwise i agree with you. i'll go further and say that helms deep may have been the best battle scene committed to film. when it starts raining...jesus.

i rank return of the king a tepid second. i think they butchered a lot of shit, and i don't even think the battles were that good, but...

i really didn't care for the fellowship, relatively speaking. it was cool, but i didn't think the beginning of it (getting out of hobbiton and stuff) translated really well. it also gets a mandatory 10 point deduction for taking out treebeard. i know jackson had to do it, but still, that's my favorite part of the books. ballrog was cool, though.

he has zero bearing to the plot, and nobody knows what the fuck he's supposed to be or mean anyway. he's harmless enough in the book, but he would've sucked if they put him in the movie.

bombadil does help establish what we're dealing with in sauron. they're sitting around in the council saying that sauron could take down even bombadil, and you're like, fuck. but i agree it doesn't have central bearing to the plot and don't care even a little. it's the most bad ass part of the books.

I do remember that bombadil is completely unaffected by the ring though, so he's obviously a more powerful force than just some random forest spirit or whatever.

As for establishing what we're dealing with in Sauron, I thought the intro did a good job of that with Sauron murking fools by the dozen with his mace while they're rendered powerless by his will via the ring.

In response to Reply # 29

it's like damn near 4 hours long though, so I understand that they had to cut out alot of stuff for the theatrical release. But the extended edition fleshes out the narrative alot better.

And they cut out some GREAT scenes: the Mouth of Sauron, Aragorn confronting Sauron with the Palantir, and the Witch King vs. Gandalf - I can't BELIEVE they cut that one out of the theatrical release.

Okay, I take that back, enthusiastically in fact, but yo, that ROTK shit need to be broken up into two moves or something.

Niggaz got jobs.

At least put an intermission in that piece.

I mean, I know its very well made....but that's just too god damn long.

That's why I liked TT...it was just as exciting and radiant with none of that overboard shit.

... I keed, I keed!

But yeah, I totally understand people who think that's too long to sit through a movie. But that's why it works on DVD, you can get up and take a break, get something to eat or whatever in between, or even watch disc 1 one night and disc 2 the next night.

But I agree that TT probably works best as an individual movie. And I agree about Helm's Deep, it was the best battle scene and had the most imminent sense of foreboding doom, like they really had their backs to the wall with no hope left and were all about to get murked, so as well as being the best executed battle scene it was also the most emotionally engaging one in the whole trilogy.

Gimme a fucking break.

Those movies fucking sucked. Just deal with it.

Shit.

EDIT: I mean seriously, two of the three most mentioned films are City of God and Kill Bill.

There is no fucking reason those two films should mentioned...one of them is actually extraordinary and a masterpiece, one is pure unadulterated hype.

And yes, 'City of God' is the masterpiece, so delete that smartass response.

Shit.

Twentynine Palms (Dumont)
The Pianist (Polanski)

Dogville (Trier)
Ten (Kiarostami)
Fog of War (Morris)
The Fast Runner (Kunuk)
What Time is it There? (Tsai)
In the Mood for Love (Wong)
City of God (Meirelles, Lund)

2046 could bump a film or two (you can probably guess which), but two films by WKW didn't seem fair.

Batman Begins

Royal Tenenbaums
Memento
Spider-Man 2

This list is roughly in order of which I'd most likely choose to watch on any given evening, assuming I had DVDs of all 10 at my disposal:

Last Life in the Universe
I *heart* Huckabees
3-Iron
Bridget Jones's Diary
In the Mood for Love
High Fidelity
City of God
Machuca
Brothers
25th Hour

And since I've seen A LOT of great films in the past 5 years, I have 10 honorable mentions (in no particular order):

Bus 174
Murderball
Before Sunset
Ghost World
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring
Twilight Samurai
Amelie
Born into Brothels
Travellers & Magicians
Oldboy

Well, I did say *assuming* I had all 10. 3-Iron has been out for awhile. DVDaf is your friend, man. I think I got it off eBay. Unless something has changed in the past couple weeks, Machuca hasn't been released in any region, let alone here.

Yeah, you keep saying that. Get on it!

>u liked 25th hour that much? ew. lol

Yup. It's my 2nd favorite Spike film. However, I will admit that was the film I debated most about including in the top 10. I think I should've put it on the honorable mentions list and replaced it with Amelie or Ghost World.

>>Travellers & Magicians
>whats that?

Um, it's a film. ;-)

Nah, it's a modern day fable set in Bhutan. It's really sweet and charming. The scenery is gorgeous!

Ghost World
Sideways
School of Rock

those 3 I'm sure of, after that the list gets a little trickier and/or subject to revision, so in approximate order:

Murderball
Mulholland Drive
Batman Begins
Crouching Tiger
City of God
I Heart Huckabees
Kill Bill
Edit: Forgot Bad Santa somehow, so I guess I have a top 11. Or it might knock off anything below Mulholland Drive, if it came to that.

Honorable Mentions to Requiem for a Dream, Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Spirited Away, Mystic River and Memento, which I really liked but can't see myself watching too many times, I tried to keep my list to movies that have a fair amount of replay value for me. Oh yeah, also Talk To Her, that was great.
