I'm still working on this one, but I thought this idea would be really crazy:

DUPREE MEETS THE LAWSONS

Chapter one: The unexpected guest

As Vicky Lawson used her secret robot strength to lift up the couch while she was vacuuming, she heard the doorbell ring. Since she thought it was her brother Jamie, she didn't bother putting down the couch, since Jamie already knew her Robot secret. But when she answered the door, her circuits nearly overloaded, because there was a very strange young man with blonde hair standing on her very doorstep!

He said: Wow, you must be a bodybuilder or an athelete. Cool! My name is Dupree and I'm your distant cousin and I was wondering if I could "crash" here for a while.

But something in his eyes made Vicky compute that "a while" could turn into a very long time, indeed...

This review has got me really excited, as if I wasn't already!

You, Me and Dupree

Three's a pleasant enough crowd in "You, Me and Dupree," a middling third-wheel comedy elevated a couple of notches by the ineffably weird charms of Owen Wilson. Proceeding from a conventional easy-laugh premise -- a pair of newlyweds forced to put up with an obnoxious houseguest -- pic sidesteps the potential gross-out monotony of its setup by heading in an unexpected and dramatically effective direction, though rarely eliciting more than a chuckle along the way. Still, the strong cast and genial execution should have broad demographic appeal, making this a welcome (and financially self-supporting) lodger in Universal's summer house.
Land developer Carl Peterson (Matt Dillon) would seem to have a great life: He's just married a beautiful schoolteacher, Molly (Kate Hudson), received a hefty promotion at work, and moved into a classy suburban neighborhood. Unfortunately, his new home is about to be crashed and partially immolated by his best friend, Randy Dupree (Wilson), an affable blond bum who has just been fired and evicted and has nowhere else to go.

Predictably, Dupree's "temporary" stay leads to all sorts of unwanted (and sporadically amusing) shenanigans involving skateboard accidents, clogged toilets and some involuntary coitus interruptus, as when Molly walks in on Dupree and his new girlfriend re-enacting a scene from "Last Tango in Paris." To their credit, brothers Anthony and Joe Russo (helming their second feature after the heist comedy "Welcome to Collinwood") don't overdo the sight gags and keep up a fairly swift pace from one pratfall to the next.

As Molly's patience with Dupree wears thin, Carl faces even bigger problems with his boss, Mr. Thompson, who also happens to be his new father-in-law (Michael Douglas, last seen with Dillon in "One Night at McCool's"). Thompson barely conceals his contempt for Carl, undermining his projects and making insulting suggestions that he adopt Molly's last name and undergo a vasectomy.

Merely the latest addition to Douglas' roster of rich, tyrannical CEOs, Thompson is an all-too-convenient villain who turns Carl into an irritable crank, forcing Molly to seek comfort from an unlikely source. As Dupree cleans up his act, he morphs from accident-prone nuisance into lovable substitute husband -- a reversal that, as worked out in Mike LeSieur's screenplay and played by Wilson, comes off as surprisingly canny.

Wilson's amiable slacker charm masks a wholly alert sense of comic delivery and, crucially, a knowledge of how to play annoying without annoying the audience. The character Dupree is smarter and more complicated than he looks -- selfish but selfless, irresponsible but resourceful, clueless but sensitive, mediocre but inspiring. Much of the pic's humor originates from the sheer silliness of Wilson's appearance; few thesps can wear a pastel-purple bandana with such imperturbable conviction.

Offering solid support are Dillon, whose suggestion of an underlying rage makes him an ideal straight man; and Hudson, whose Molly is almost too sweet, sensible and sexy to be true. Seth Rogen ("The 40 Year Old Virgin") also makes a potent impression as Carl's even more obnoxious friend Neil, offering an ugly alternate view of married life.

If the Russos demonstrate a skill for directing actors, their sense of resolution isn't at the same level. After several third-act stabs at humor that fall flat -- including a violent chase sequence that goes on far too long -- pic belabors its conclusion with a series of face-to-face reconciliations that feel obligatory.

A random appearance by Harry Dean Stanton as a local drunk suggests the actor's best scenes -- along with his reason for appearing in the first place -- were left on the cutting-room floor. Lance Armstrong also has a cameo that's decidedly inferior to his work in "Dodgeball."

Looks like YOUMAD is as big with the critics as it is with everyone else.

http://www.spiritualityandpractice.com/films/films.php?id=15795

You, Me and Dupree
Directed by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo
Universal Pictures 07/06 Feature Film
PG-13 - sexual content, brief nudity, crude content, language, drug reference

Sometimes people surprise us, especially when we think we have them pigeonholed. Someone can come across as irritating and then overnight transform into a person with special charms. That is what happens in this comedy directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.

Randy Dupree (Owen Wilson) shows up late for his best friend Carl's (Matt Dillon) wedding. He always has to have things his way; for example, he wants to wear a special button declaring that he is "the best man." After marrying Molly (Kate Hudson), a schoolteacher, Carl purchases a new suburban home and gets a promotion on his job as a land developer. His boss is Mr. Thompson (Michael Douglas), Molly's successful and manipulative father who doesn't have much respect for his new son-in-law. Carl is convinced that he is being set up for a fall, which creates a lot of pressure, but he toughs it out.

There's trouble brewing at home as well. Dupree has lost his job and has no place to stay so Carl and Molly take him in, letting him sleep on their couch. Dupree screws things up with an overflowing toilet, a fire in the living room, and taking advantage of their kindness in countless ways. His philosophy is to enjoy life and not work too hard. The longer he stays with his friends, the more he angers them with his irresponsible ways. The kids in the neighborhood love him; he is just an adult who never lost his playfulness. When Carl can't make good on a promise to speak to Molly's class on career day, Dupree substitutes for him and salutes the pleasures of being nimble and going with the flow. The person most surprised by this trickster is Molly who suddenly sees a man who isn't afraid to express his emotions in poetry or who in the enthusiastic way he rides his ten-speed bike.

In a heart-to-heart with Carl, Dupree tells him that what he likes best about him is his "Carl-ness," that special spark of vitality that separates him from everybody else. This little speech alone is worth the price of the ticket. Throughout the screenplay, writer Mike LeSieur salutes the spiritual practice of you. Most of us are so much more than we think we are and the best thing a friend can do is to help us see and appreciate that miracle. "Each of us has access codes to the many stations of our being. Our tendency is to forget to update them and to tune ourselves day after day to the same old programs," Jean Houston writes in A Passion for the Possible: A Guide to Realizing Your True Potential. Dupree enables Carl to access a courageous and truthful part of himself which he had lost or buried. Once he gets in touch with his soul, everything seems clearer. The bang-up grand finale of You, Me and Dupree will make you feel good.

Did you get Dupree 2 freestyle over em?

BTW. Nice work passin up on the midnite showing last nite. I hear the O-Wil, M-Dill, & K-Hud fanboys were tearin the theaters apart all over the country last nite. Apparently it was impossible for them to contain their laughter & they were pissin their pants left & right. You might want to bring a pair of Depends when you go today mkay? Enjoy & holla back @ us w/ your review. The anticipation is killin me.

However, I went in, based on Owen Wilson's inclusion, thinking it would be more frat boy humor along the lines of Old School, Wedding Crashers, and Anchorman.

Also, I'd like to add Kate Hudson may be the most likeable person in the entire world.

If you wait until the DVD, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The first half was more engaging than the second... certainly funnier than The Break Up... I thought Seth Rogen was wasted, though... and some of the character turns were a bit jarring and weren't organic at all... but it was enjoyable overall... I'd say C/C+ range...

except I have no idea how any of yall thought it was on some "Wedding Crashers/Old School" tip

I figured it'd be more like another "Along Came Polly"

it wasn't bad, picked up quite a bit near the end (first half had maybe two laughs total) and it's good for a date movie

and Rogan wasn't funny at all. His character could've been, but his delivery was terrible,

This post takes a bit ol' Dupree-sized deposit on my once-upon-a-time Gigli Post. You're the man now, stylez_dainty.

Really though, the NY Times had a field day with Dupree. However, in honor of the kid s_d, let's instead focus on hair-and-movie-aficionado, and Sacramento's own, Mark S. Allen and his triumphant review, which happens to be the sole blurb used in Dupree's ad campain, "the funniest movie you'll see this season." Yup

worst movie I've seen this year, a solid D-, I'll give Owen the benefit of doubt and not give it a F. It was too much stick to the script, no ad-libbing, extremely disappointed
