1981- Thundarr
1983-He-Man

...and Thundarr was exclusive to animation. He-Man was a toy first (starting in 1982).

I wonder if He-Man was a ripoff...because he certainly reminded me of Thundarr...and vice versa. Only no Skeletor in Thundarr.

I forget which station used to rerun all these toons, but I know I've seen a great deal of them for some reason.

USA used to have an H-B monopoly of sorts in the 80s-up-to-mid 90s...with their Cartoon Express.

*coughcartoonnetworkcough*

(well, them AND the USA "Cartoon Express." In 1990 they had ALL the old Hanna-Barbera cartoons...by 1994 they were down to just showing "Scooby-Doo"...and by 1995 Cartoon Network had Scooby-Doo under exclusive contractual rights...)

USA used to show all the cartoons with their old Hanna-Barbera studio logos, and I used to try and keep track of each one, which era it came from, and how long they used it for.

Cartoon Netwrok is notorious for plastering those "Hanna-Barbera: A Turner Company" logos over everything they show that's old...

Man, I've seen nearly all of the cartoons you've mentioned. There are those that I wasn't an avid watcher of, but I have seen them.

Lookaheahfool, the sig starts heah.....

No other MC can touch my style the way I deliver it/ 'cause I'm more complex than a room full of books to an illiterate.....

Obliterate your style, meanwhile your crew is getting/ Stomped and smashed like a wine glass in a Jewish wedding.....

As for beef, too late to squash it/ I'm gon' hit you wit' so many knees & bows, you'd swear you were caught in the midst of a mosh pit.

My Hobbies: Drawing, rhyming, using the wings that sprouted out my back to fly into space, inhaling carbon dioxide and exhaling oxygen without any harmful effects, walking on water, lifting ten tons. You know, normal stuff.

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! (CBS: 1969-1971; reruns 1971-1972, 1974-1976) (this is the one...this is it right here. The original 25 episodes. It never got much better than these. THe selling point for these episodes has always been for me Ted Nichols' immortal score music--"immortal" in that not only is it good, but in that it appeared in like 30 more Hanna-Barbera series all throughout the 1970s...)

The New Scooby-Doo (Comedy) Movies (CBS: 1972-1974) (oddly enough, I peeped some vintage TV Guides at my mom's college's library back home...and the Scooby-Doo Movies episodes where listed in the TV Guide as just that...movies. Not as a series, but each episode was listed with the "*MOVIE*" designator, a star rating (usually two stars) and the name of the actual episode--eg. not "Scooby-Doo Meets The Addams Family," but "Wendsday is Missing." Wierd, huh?)

The Scooby-Doo Dynomutt Hour (ABC: 1976-1977) (hour long show..included an episode of "Scooby-Doo" and an epsisode of "Dynomutt, Dog Wonder." In January 1977, THey renamed it "The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Show," expanded it to 90 mintues, and started showing TWO "Scoobys" instead of just one)

Scooby-Doo's All-Star Laff-a Lympics (ABC: 1977-1979) (two hours long...included "Scooby-Doo," "Dynomutt, Dog Wonder," "Laff-a-Lympics," and "Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels." Re-named "Scooby's Laff-a-Lympics" and cut to 90 minutes in 1978, when "Captain Caveman" went his own seperate ways...

(*note* the 1976, 1977, and 1978 episodes of "Scooby-Doo" where all later syndicated as "The Scooby-Doo Show"--and are still shown today under that same title. A lot of these have Scooby-Dum in them.)

Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo (ABC: 1979-1980) (these are the ones with the whole gang plus Scrappy)

The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show (ABC: 1980-1982) (these are the ones with the seven-minute episodes with just Scooby, Scrappy, and Shaggy)

The Scooby-Doo/Scrappy-Doo/Puppy Hour (ABC: 1982-1983) (these are the ones with the "Fearless Detective Angency" 7-minute episodes--with still just Scooby, Scrappy, and Shaggy--"Scrappy and Yabba-Doo," and "The Puppy's New Adventures" a 30-minute seroes made by Ruby Spears about Petie the Puppy)

(*note* all the 1980-1982 episodes of "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo where all syndicated using a variant of the 1979 "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo" opening/closing credits sequence)

The All-New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show (ABC: 1983-1984) (this is the first season of the fifteen-minute episodes with Scooby, Scrappy, Shaggy, and Daphne. Two of the shows featured a 30-minute story split into two-15 minute halves.)

The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries (ABC: 1984-1985) (this is the second season of the fifteen-minute episodes with Scooby, Scrappy, Shaggy, and Daphne. At least six of the shows featured a 30-minute story split into two-15 minute halves...all of those featured Freddy back with the gang...and at least three of them featured Velma as well. Most of these episodes were digitally-inked-and-painted and rendered )

The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo (ABC: 1985-1986) (the final season of regular Scooby...it didn't even last the entire season...it was eplaced in March 1986 with reruns of "Laff-a-Lympics." the mosters are all real...and it's the best incarnation of the series since the 1976 version. Hilariously irreverent...it's producer Tom Ruegger's dry run for the anarchy he'd bring to his later shows like "Tiny Toon Adventures," "Animaniacs," and "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo." Speaking of which...)

A Pup Named Scooby-Doo (ABC: 1988-1991) (great stuff. greeaaaaaaat stuff. Made irreverent fun of each and every last aspect of the original Scooby-Doo series...and the songs where off the chain--especially the theme song!)

What's New Scooby-Doo? (WB: 2002-current) (a bit too much, that's what's "new"...new costumes, new standards-and-practrices rules about what the kids can & can't doo, new sucky directors/writers, new gaudy digital ink-and-paint, new horrid theme music, and new horrid synthesized renditions of Ted Nichols' original incidental score. I. HATE. THIS. SHOW.)

there was an episode where the Mystery, inc. gang is featured in a haunted house, called "Bravo Dooby Doo" (Season 1, Episode 4). Shaggy confronts Fred about why he's always stuck with the dog, while Fred gets to hang out with the girls...Johnny Bravo opens a door to find Fred and Daphne making out...this was hella funny!!!

can anyone remember the name of this cartoon? it is about a guy who turns into a red sports car, and if I remember right, this ability is based on whether he is hot or cold (or touchs fire or ice or something like that).

I guess my contribution would be dirk the dragonslayer. it is not really obscure, but you gotta be a certain age to know about it.

Nobody fucks with Luno, and with only a small handful of episodes ever done, now I know why.

I wish they aired it or release it on DVD, but: "The Mighty Heroes" with Cuckoo Man, Diaper Man, and Tornado Man and others.

"Beany & Cecil" was great, but that's well known.

i always wanted my parents to buy me one of those, alas, it was placed on this list of toys i wanted that i never got.

and i remember a bunch of the cartoons i watched were made by Ruby Spears (the R with a star and an S, with the star going round and round, with cheesy sounds effects, to get to the center of the R). RS needs to bring out a set of DVDs for these cartoons of our childhood.

E'rybody thinks that I'm making this show up. Apparently, I was the only one who watched that joint.

Someone PLEASE tell me you remember this show. The main villian's name was Saw-Boss; or at least that was one of the main villians.

on the Today Show and everything.

Always wanted to see Alvin & Co. on the screen with the CBS and ABC guys.

(for some reason, I think for many years, NBC had Saturday mornings on lock, ABC crept up after NBC dropped out, and CBS was perennially slept on outside of Garfield and Friends and perhaps Muppet Babies...)

the Filmation (i.e. unlicensed) version had a generic theme song ("let's go, ghost busters - let's go - let's go, let's go!...(repeat)") and they drove around in a beat up car similar to the one the Clampetts used to arrive in Beverly Hills.

the Real Ghostbusters was the shit - it expanded upon the mythos barely scraped in the movie (Toban's Spirit Guide, etc.) and included the voice talent of Lorenzo Music (aka Garfield's voice) as Venkman and a young Arsenio Hall as Winston Zeddmore.

i always thought that Peter Venkman should've been drawn like Ray Stantz and vice versa.

for one season.

then Dave Coulier (Full House, Nickelodeon's Out of Control) took over the Venkman voice, and Buster Jones (Blaster from Transformers, Doc from G.I. Joe) took over Winston's role.

I think Coulier was a better choice for the Venkman voice, because it was weird as hell hearing Garfield's voice outta that guy.

Filmation's version was actually licensed...not from Columbia Pictures' "Ghostbusters"..but a little-known TV show called "Ghost Busters" from 1975.

David the Gnome was this pansy-ass Nickelodeon cartoon about... yeah, Gnomes.

Camp Candy was exactly the year before they canceled Sat. Morning cartoons. It was aight.

Bananaman was a short between Danger Mouse episodes.

Ed Grimley was on NBC, and it was fookin' funny. Based off of the Martin Short SNL skit.

In response to Reply # 0

This was a cartoon that ran on MTV in 1999 (Aug.-Sept., roughly). It was about these teenagers and young 20 somethings and their adventures in New York City (mostly Manhattan). They showed like 6, 7, maybe 8 episodes at best, then the shit just stopped coming on.

At first I didn't understand why they cancelled it, but after it went off, I figured it out: I must've been the only one watching it, because just about everyone I spoke to about it, didn't know what the hell I was talking about.

If anyone remembers this cartoon or has any idea what happened to it, let me know.

...as far as what happenedto it? Hey, it's MTV...they're like the Jezebel of the TV animation world...they love to f*ck with animation properties for a hot second and then leave them high-n-dry for a new one...

produced by Saban (who would later "produce"--or rather "chop up and re-edit old Japanese kiddie shows to make"--"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers")

koala's names were "Pinky Bear" and "Binky Bear."

with the little girl named "Sandy" as their best friend.

she "noozled" them to life by rubbing her nose to their noses.

I used to like that show.

hey...did anybody ever see tthis?

It came on primetime round about Christmas 1992...about some dudes in the ghetto and this one dude in particualr named Orlando who wanted to buy his pops a Christmas present, but spent all his money on some designer sneakers...he also wanted to be the fifth member of Boyz II Men ("Boyz...2 Men...2 Orlando!") and Boyz II Men (in animated form, of course) showed up at the end of the special and sung "Silent Night" at Orlando's church during Christmas services (allowing his pop to forgive him for not gettign him a good present--Orlando gave him some socks he bought from a hustleman).

It was pretty good. I just hope I wasn't the only one who saw it...

Here we go...

But first, the list of jawns I had but was surprised to find folks were up on:
Roman Holidays (damn you, Freddy!)
Clue Club
Goober & The Ghost Chasers
Mighty Orbots
ProStars
Hammerman
Kid N Play
Bionic Six
Pac-Man
Panda-monium
Tranzor Z
Macron 1
Wheeled Warriors
Kissyfur
Kidd Video
Bravestarr
Blackstar
Lazer Tag Academy
Rambo
Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos
Spartacus
Duckula
Dangermouse
Bananaman
SuperTed (I think the same company as Bananman made that one)
Street Frogs

Now.....what's REALLY GOOD?!?

I offer the following (divided up by studio, even naming the station! What a nerd I am):

HB:
Monchichis (ABC)
Flinstone Follies (NBC)
Funtastic World Of Hanna-Barbera (incl. the likes of Galtar
Paw-Paws, Sky Commanders, Don Coyote, and the 80's Jonny Quest, among others already named. It was syndicated)
Space Kidettes
Space Stars (Space Ghost/Herculoids/Teen Force and the finale that teamed up two of the crews, NBC)
World of Super Adventure (Impossibles/Dino Boy/Mightor/Fantastic Four/ Frankenstein Jr./Birdman/Space Ghost/Herculoids, might have been CBS)
Yakky Doodle
Wally Gator
Pixie, Dixie, & Mr. Jinks
Pigsburg Pigs (Fox)
Fred Flinstone & Friends (which included the Patridge Family In Outer Space, and others that were already mentioned)
Wheelie & The Chopper Bunch
Wildfire (CBS)
The Buford Files

Marvel:
The Marvel Block of the 60s (Thor/Captain America/Hulk/Sub-Mariner/Iron Man, syndicated)
Spider-Woman (ABC)
Robocop (part of the Marvel Action Universe block that included Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends, Dino-Riders, and the X-Men one-shot. It was syndicated)
Super Week/Super Sunday (Robotix/Bigfoot/the mentioned Jem/the mentioned Inhumanoids, syndicated)
Dungeons & Dragons (CBS)

DIC:
Weekend Fun Day (Sylvanian Families/Starcom, syndicated)--did anyone get this in their market on Saturday or Sunday? Out here they showed one on Thursday and one on Friday.
Hulk Hogan's Rock N Wrestling (CBS)

World Events:
The Little Prince (syndicated, but was also on Nick)
Vytor (syndicated)

Ruby-Spears:
HeathCliff & Marmaduke (ABC)
Goldie Gold & Action Jack
Rickety Rocket
Sectaurs (syndicated)

Filmation:
The DC block (you forgot Justice League, Suberboy, and Teen Titans, Freddy)
Tarzan & The Super 7 (CBS)
Batman & The Super 7 CBS)
Groovie Goolies & Friends (included such fodder as M.U.S.H, Wacky & Packey, Lassie & the Rescue Rangers--if I'm not mistaken--and other obscurities)

Rankin-Bass:
Mini Monsters (the lost member of the Comic Strip block....unless there was one more, syndicated)

Other/Unknown:
James Hound
Super Chicken
Underdog
Alakazam
Shazam! (NBC)
Garbage Pail Kids (which was never even shown, CBS)
Saturday Supercade (Cartoons about hot arcade games from back then like Frogger and Q-Bert, CBS)
Mutt & Jeff
Oswald the Rabbit
Aeon Flux (MTV)
Teknoman (UPN)
Space Strikers (UPN)
Flying House (the joint that came on right after superbook on CBN)
Robotech (syndicated)

Jay Ward:
George Of The Jungle
Bullwinkle

It's time for Cartoon Network 2 or Cartoon Network Classic or something. Those new joints done took over the current CN....and Toon Disney isn't the place for a lot of them.

Could have sworn Flim-Flam was Mexican.

Silverhawks was a take-off of Gatchaman, IMO (thinking of this at some damn 27)

Lorenzo Music (RIP) would have been great to voice Havok if that character had ever made X-Men. I used to voice out my comics when I was a kid and imagined his voice.

Did Centurions air an entire season in other markets? Here in LA, they only did that one week on Ch. 13 Same with Sectaurs. But Rambo went a full season.

...with who? THA DOODOOMAN!!!

nope...first ep. of "13 Ghosts of S-D" takes place in Tibet. That's where Flim-Flam's from, that's where Vincient Van Ghoul lives, and that's where the demon chest was kept.

I found "13 Ghosts" to be the highlight of the post-SD & Scrappy-Doo, pre-Pup Named SD era.

>>>SuperTed (I think the same company as Bananman made that
>one)
wasn't SuperTed a Hanna-Barbera cartoon? (or at least "The New Adventures of SuperTed")(I remember it being on The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera)<<<

Hanna-Barbera Australia, most likely...which reminds me, forgot all about CBS's Teen Wolf.

>
>>Flinstone Follies (NBC) (is this the official name for the early 1980s Flinstones stuff...incl. "Flinstone Family Adventures," the "Pebbles, Dino, and Bamm-Bamm" mystery cartoons, "The Shmoo," "The Frankenstones," and "Dino & Cavemouse?" I've seen them aired under about 5 other titles over the years...<<<

Most likely. That makes sense.

>>>Space Kidettes<<<

I see I got everyone with that one!!

>>Space Stars (Space Ghost/Herculoids/Teen Force and the
>finale that teamed up two of the crews, NBC)
The 1980 Space Ghost/Herculoid eps came from here, right?<<<

You are correct, sir.

>>>World of Super Adventure (Impossibles/Dino
>Boy/Mightor/Fantastic Four/ Frankenstein Jr./Birdman/Space
>Ghost/Herculoids, might have been CBS)
It was CBS<<<<

Smelled like it. Don't know why, just had that feel like it was on CBS. I couldn't imagine shows like those being syndies.

>Yakky Doodle
>Wally Gator
>Pixie, Dixie, & Mr. Jinks

I think these shows were originally set up like this:

"The Huckleberry Hound Show" (inc. "Yogi Bear" and "Pixie & Dixie")
"The Yogi Bear Show" (inc. "Snagglepuss" and "Yakky Doodle")
"Quick Draw McGraw" (with "Snooper & Blabber" and "Augie Doogie & Doggie Daddy")
Wally Gator (I forgot what aired with Wally...though I did see a reconstruncted episode or two<<<<

You'd be fairly correct...that's how USA used to show them.

> the Patridge Family
>In Outer Space,
my God...Just like "Josie in Outer Space" and "Gilligan in Outer Space"<<<

I think those were also part of the FF&F block.

>The Buford Files
I remember this show (Here comes Buuuuufooooooooooordddd....*yawn*...did this come on with Mighty Mann and Yuck...or another cartoon?)<<<

MM&Y was Ruby Spears, part of that block they syndicated thru the week with GG/AJ, Fangface, Rickety Rocket, and a couple of others. Buford was HB.

>>>World Events:
>The Little Prince (syndicated, but was also on Nick)
aw shit...nice one!<<<<

Yep. used to come on Ch. 7 at prob. 6:30 in the morning, before the network block.

Oh yeah, speaking of joints that ended up on Nick, how could I forget Belle & Sebastian?

>Vytor (syndicated)<<<

A week-long mini-series.

>>>>>Filmation:
>The DC block (you forgot Justice League, Suberboy, and Teen
>Titans, Freddy)
JL and TT are still in production and are both immensly popular...you DID call me out on Superboy tho..<<<

Not the CN versions (those are WB), the Filmation joints from the 60s that preceded Superfriends. Superman, Batman & Robin, Jutice League of America, Teen Titans (with Wonder Girl and Kid Flash), Superboy, and Aquaman. I have no idea what station those were originally on, but I saw them as Sunday syndies in the 80s.

>>>>Tarzan & The Super 7 (CBS)
>Batman & The Super 7 (CBS)<<<<

No one remembers these? Or for that matter, this one REALLY obscure block with a Batman feature that used to come on NBC in the early 80s.

>>>>Groovie Goolies & Friends (included such fodder as M.U.S.H,
>Wacky & Packy, Lassie & the Rescue Rangers--if I'm not

Never heard of that one....Filmation did such? DIC had an Archies in the 80s that they syndicated (if it wasn't on NBC, memory doesn't serve me that good right now)

>>>>James Hound
>Super Chicken
Jay Ward<<<

Felt like it, it wass just hard to call.

>>>>Underdog
Format Films (makers of The Alvin Show)<<<

Under Paramount

>>Shazam! (NBC)
Filmation. Made Captain Marvel & the Marvel Family look. like. SHIT. (and sound like it, too!)<<<<

Weird....didn't feel like a Filmation show, but more like an indie. The DC Captain Marvel was always weirdly marketed and separated from the rest of the DC universe....but don't get me started on comic books.

They should do a DC Captain Marvel movie.

>>>Garbage Pail Kids (which was never even shown, CBS)
>Saturday Supercade (Cartoons about hot arcade games from
>back then like Frogger and Q-Bert, CBS)<<<<

No info on either one?
>>>>Oswald the Rabbit
okay...se now I know you're talking about theatricals...I;ve never seen an Oswald cartoon yet. Not a single one.<<<

Yeah, that was Disney before he invented Mickey.

>>>>Flying House (the joint that came on right after superbook

Used to get up at 4 in the morning to watch those and Space Kidettes on CBN when we first got cable.

yeah...Filmation made an Archie show from 1968 until 1977. It was actually Hanna-Barbera's orginial inspiration for their series "Mystery's Five," which, by the time it debuted on the air in 1969, had been renamed and revamped as "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!"

They are. I hope it doesn't suck. Cap is actually my favorite DC comics character. I got an Alex Ross poster of Cap on the wall at home.

Yeah...and then Universal turned snake in 1928, got rid of Walt, and kept Walt's animators AND his character. (resulting in Walt and Ub Iwerks coming up with Mickey Mouse as a replacement) Oswald cartoons were later made by Walter Lantz, who also produced "Woody Woodpecker" shorts.

nicely drawn, but poorly animated. Typically, the more detailed a design is, the more ponderous and less accomplished looking the final animation will be (that's why Bruce Timm did the designs for the Batman TV show the way he did...)

It came on real early on saturday mornings. I can count the episodes I saw completely on one hand. It was too early for me to watch the whole episode. It was based on the RPG for Nintendo.

Anyone remember this one? I really liked it cause monsters are cool.

Then there was that block of live action shows with Isis and Shazaam!

My favorites were always Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers, Star Blazers, MASK, that kind of stuff.

But Thundaar was in a league of its own. In the year 1994, a runaway comet passes between the Earth and the moon...

Ookla is named for UCLA. Jack Kirby did the character design. Ariel, Ookla, let's ride!
