Well like clues about how they show she is upset and does go to the doctor...I just never connected it with her having cancer. Finding out she had cancer was a complete surprise to me...I didn't realize they show it all along the movie...doh

it wasnt really about right or justice or morality
i felt like it was more a look at these people who may or not engage in alot of questionable shit and take them for who they are and how there journey changes them or defines them
and I appreciated the political commentary about how the changes in th giovement affected people in the country who again just wanted to live there lives
I respect your opinion and all but this film shouldn't be looked at in terms of right or wrong, black and white; it can't be one thing or the other...so hearing that you say "the boys weren't likable", it kind of bothers me. I'm thinking you missed the whole point of the film which was not to get you to like these characters or hate them! Maybe you should watch again with a little bit more of an open mind...
cos my mind is sooooo open , and I see the potential in a film like this....I want to see the characters stretched!
So, the female character is the guide, taking these two on a rite of passage. She dies---which is predictably tragic. It might have been more interesting to see her be more deliberate in leaving this experience as her legacy to these two.
The male characters go thru this "journey" only to come back more repessed than they were at the beginning.Well, actually I take that back--cos I would have preferred a more extreme reaction in either sense--liberated or repressed. But the ending just fizzled. And I felt why the hell did I just bother watching that? To see the locations shots? The best thing was exposure to the middle/upper class life of Mexico City, which is under respresented in film.
So, its not that I didn't get it--it just could have been MORE.
