I agree with the ones y'all are listing. I love me some Half-baked, Friday, Kevin Smith, Wes Anderson films... all them. Definitely essentials.
But I am suprised I am the first to mention the South Park movie. Definitely one of the greatest comedies to come out in a long minute. Instant classic .
Only thing that sucks is that this DVD lacks in the special feature department. regardless, it is a must-have that will get worn out in your DVD player.

I've just got a DVD player and would kill to get a copy of this flick....where did you find it? I only saw it once at a film festival and absolutely adored it.
Also, if you know, is it available in region 4 (I'm in New Zealand...)?
Oh, and does it have many special features (although honestly, I'd be happy if it came with just the movie)?

A defining work in the concert-film genre... the Talking Heads kill this, Byrne is a mad man, and the commentary and extra tracks are fantastic.

the only things good about that dvd is the price, and the dolby digital 5.1 sound.
full screen (4:3) sucks, as do the extras (just a trailer.)

Not only does it have every post-Def Jam video, but it has great features, like you can pick alternate remixes of the songs, choose different camera angles and sort of create-your-own-video. I thought this was the tightest feature I had seen on a music DVD. The only thing that could make this a better is if it had the License to Ill stuff on it.

"Belle De Jour" and "That Obscure Object Of Desire" both directed by the great surrealist Luis Bunuel (and don't forget "The Discreet Charm Of The Bourgeoisie" that someone already mentioned).

"The Seventh Seal", "Wild Strawberries" and "Cries and Whispers" directed by Ingmar Bergman.
"Breathless" and "Alphaville" directed by Jean-Luc Godard.
"Jules and Jim" directed by Fancois Truffaut
I love foregin films. Especially those films that come from the Surrealist tradition, or the French New Wave tradition (Godard and Truffaut were part of this). These directors are among the most highly regarded, and they're a good place to start. There's countless more of course. I suppose these aren't for people who hate subtitles, but you really shouldn't let subtitles stop you. . . you'll get used to them.
Exorcist: The version you have never seen (Incredible!!) Nightmare on Elm Street Sixth Sense Unbreakable (i consider this to be a thriller) Nightmare on Elm Street: New Nightmare Blade II Alien (i know... this could be Sci Fi too) The Shining The Lost Boys Thirteenth Ghost And as soon as "The Ring" comes out, it is getting added to the list....
