"The Harry Potter 6 Anticipation Thread"

We're inside of five months until HP and the Half-Blood Prince, people. Look sharp. Let's start (just for nick) a thread where we can speculate about stuff.

I'll start with two things. One, I assume the "Half-Blood Prince" refers to Voldemort. Two, I'm convinced Dumbledore is going down in this book.

In response to Reply # 0

Voldemort? Can't be he's a mudblood (I think...its been forever since i've read the books) right?.

Half-blood prince? That would imply to me that the person is half-Something. That coule be harry. But I doubt it. Why mention harry twice in the same book title.

Prince? Has to mean its a male.

A prince means royalty.

It was alluded to that Hagrid is a half-blood himself...AND that his mother may very well be royalty. I think in the last book the Giants they found were of some relation to Hagrid and his mother once ruled them....thus making him Ruler of the Giants.

Well at least thats the logic my friends who have read it are taking. I personally can't think of any other existing characters that could fit the role of being a half-blood.

i have a theory that malfoy is the half-blood prince. how much of a twist would this be? also she tends to write about culturally relevant things, and i can see how self-hatred would play into that. just a theory tho. what do you think?

second movie moreso than i remember it from the books.

when tom riddle is explaining why he changed his name to voldemort...

but i think it was book four that started of in the riddle house...i can't remember specifics anymore. need to re-read before the 6th joint drops.

there's also plenty of info on the web to fill in any gaps you may have.

I suspect his character will get much more dimensions this time round, and him and Harry may have to reach some sort of truce...otherwise they'll just be reliving James Potter and Snape's high school years.

And I agree fully that Dumbledore isn't making it through this book - hes far too much of a security blanket for Harry. Theres always a sense that he'll ALWAYS turn up at the right time to save his ass (and deliver a rousing pep talk afterwards). If Harry goes into the 7th book without that, its gonna be a whole lot more scary for him and the reader. The only thing that makes me think he might not die is that since so many people are predicting it, Rowling might keep him alive just to surprise us.

Damn, how much of a geek am I?

Francis.

“I can teach you everything I know in an hour. Everything. That’s how simple it is to make records. Nowadays, buddy, the technician is in control of the medium. They try to make out like its black magic, or flyin’ a spaceship. I can teach ANYbody on this planet how to fly the spaceship. If you look at the modern console, there’ll be thirty knobs – high frequency, low frequency, midfrequency, all notched in little tiny, tiny, TEENY tiny degrees – and its all bullshit. All this stuff doesn’t matter, and you can’t be intimidated. You just ignore it – ALL of it.

I walk into studios with the biggest console known to mankind, and I ask for the schematic and say, “Can you patch it from here to here and eliminate the ENTIRE board?” I just run it right into the tape machines. All the modern consoles, they’re all made by hacks, they’re not worth a shit, they sound terrible. None of it touches the old tube stuff – like the green board from Heider’s. It has TWO TONE CONTROLS – high end, low end and a pan knob – and that’s IT. I had great good fortune when I was a kid and started makin’ records. I made ’em at Wally Heider’s, Gold Star, so all the people that taught me were Frank Dimidio, Dave Gold, Stan Ross, Dean Jensen – these guys were the geniuses of the music business, still are.

They taught me more about sound and how sound is made and the principles of doing it, and it’s unshakably correct what they said to me: You get a great sound at the source. Put the correct mike in front of the source, get it to the tape THE SHORTEST POSSIBLE ROUTE – that’s how you get a great sound. That’s how you do it. All other ways are work. The biggest moment of my life – the one I haven’t been able to get past ever, really – is 1961, when I first got to LA. I got invited to Radio Recorders to see Ray Charles, and I walk in the studio, and Ray’s playin’ all the piano parts with his left hand, reading a braille score with his right hand, singing the vocals live while a full orchestra played behind him. So I sat there and I watched. And I went, “THIS is how records are made. Put everyone in the fuckin’ room and off we go.” In those days everybody knew they had to go in, get their dick hard at the same time and deliver. And three hours later they walked out the fuckin’ door with a record in their pocket, man.

Of course, in those days they didn’t have eight-, sixteen-, twenty-four-, forty-eight-, sixty-four-track recording, ad nauseum, to fuck people up, and that is what fucked up the recording business and the musicians of today, by the way – fucked ’em all up to where they’ll never be the same, in my opinion. People realised they could do their part…later. Play their part and FIX IT later. And with rock and roll, the more you think, the more you STINK.”

Oh, I think Neville is going to fuck shit up, but I still think Harry and Volde will have to deal with each other. I think Rowling's going to let Neville take down Beatrix LeStrange and avenge what that bitch did to his parents. It would be a very kung-fun thing to do.

But then why did he hate Lupin so much - you'd think he would have empathised with him (self loathing rearing its head again?). And I'm pretty certain hes appeared in sunlight in the books - at all the quidditch matches, for starters. Sorry, can't follow you on that one.

-David Briggs, producer extrordinaire.

The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches . . . born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies . . . and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not . . . and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives . . . the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies . . ." (Order of the Phoenix, page 841.)

"The odd thing, Harry," he said softly, "is that it may not have meant you at all. Sybill's prophecy could have applied to two wizard boys, both born at the end of July that year, both of whom had parents in the Order of the Phoenix, both sets of parents having narrowly escaped Voldemort three times. One, of course, was you. The other was Neville Longbottom."

>#3 This very well could mean that Neville is the HPB.

Neville's a full-blood.

Take this however you want but JK Rowling said in an interview a while back that "Half-Blood Prince" was going to be the name in a chapter in Chamber of Secrets, but she took it out last minute. I think that should tell us that we allready know who this Prince is and that he's not a new character.

so the logical/easy deduction would be that its either seamus, dean, or hagrid? it seems to me that hagrid would be the only one of those three that could be so major of a character that the book would be named after him. im still going with it being a suprise. (*cough* malfoy *cough*) im not giving that one up until i read the book though.

I'm excited about the book and the Movie

Now that The Gunslinger series is over, I hope Dumbledore isn't going to die in this one, that would suck for real.

I believe Neville could step up and be the man, Technically he could be the half blood prince look at Hermione both parent muggles but she;'s magical.

Neville's family didn't think he had any majic talents, whose to say that one of Neville's parents wasn't a squib to start and then learned majic and got into the order of the phoenix?

I think Lucious would have drowned Draco in a barrel if he thought there was Muggle blood somewhere LOL so maybe will be Hagrid.

AARGGGGHHHHHHHH damn it now I have too many thoughts going... I'm goig to JK's site and check things out.

Pre-orders for new Harry Potter exceed half a million

Wed Jun 15,12:41 PM ET

NEW YORK (AFP) - One month before the release of the sixth volume in
J.K. Rowling's hugely successful
Harry Potter series, online retailer Amazon.com said that advance orders had topped the half-million mark.

A total of 568,000 copies of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" have been ordered online and at US syndicated store sites, such as Borders.com, Amazon said in a statement.

The online retailer has posted a "Harry Potter Meter" on its website which updates the number of advance orders every hour.

Scholastic Inc., the US publisher of the Harry Potter books has announced a record-breaking first print run of 10.8 million copies for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" which will go on sale in the United States at midnight on July 16.

An accompanying audiobook will be available the same day with a record first printing of 635,000 copies.

Harry's last outing, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," became the fastest selling book in US publishing history, selling five million copies in the first 24 hours after its release in June, 2003.

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" has sat firmly atop the bestseller lists of Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com since its release date was announced back in December.

Judges have nothing better to do than to order 9 year olds not to ready Harry Potter three days before its release date.

Purchaser says she'll return copy

Wednesday, July 13, 2005; Posted: 8:48 a.m. EDT (12:48 GMT)

ROSENDALE, New York (AP) -- A drug store accidentally sold a copy of the latest Harry Potter book to a woman ahead of Saturday's strict release time, but the customer said she will return it.

Mandy Muldoon said she was shopping with her 9-year-old son when she spotted a stack of the much-anticipated books on a shelf and purchased one. Christine Ekblom, a manager at the upstate New York pharmacy, said she believed it was the only copy sold.

"They were pulled off an hour after they were put on the shelves," Ekblom said. "It was a mistake."

The book, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," has been shrouded in secrecy and its debut has been highly orchestrated to enable everyone -- readers and reviewers, alike -- to crack it open all at once. It's the sixth in J.K. Rowling's seven-book fantasy series on the young wizard.

Fourteen books were accidentally sold Thursday at a grocery store in Canada, but a judge ordered the customers not to talk about the book, copy it, sell it or even read it before its official release.

Muldoon's husband said the family would return the book to the publisher, though his stepson, Sylum Mastropaolo, admitted reading about two pages.

"We're going to do the right thing," Mike Muldoon said. "We don't want to ruin it for other kids and take away from the experience of everyone reading it together."

Kyle Good, a Scholastic publishing spokeswoman, said the company was not aware of any other early sales in the United States. The company said Sylum would get a copy Saturday along with a gift pack.

fuck that judge. I would have finished the book by the time he handed down that ruling.

edit: As soon as I get my book in the mail I am staying away from PTP until I finish it.

when book 5 came out they told me I had to wait a week and it came Saturday (the afternoon the book dropped). So I ordered two copies one for myself and one for my niece. She is on vacation with her mom now I said to myself I will probably get lucky again. But this year those bastards at amazon sent me an email saying they are preparing to ship my items. I wish I could respond cause I would want to know how fuckin long does it take to put two damn books in a box.

For the Dutch translation... I've read all the books in Dutch so switching to English would be weird, because many names and things are different. I'm currently re-reading everything so I'll be up to date by the time it's November.

But hey, November will be double Harry Potterish for me then... since the new film is gonna drop as well around that time, ha!
