So I met someone who hadn't seen Menance to Society and I damn near lost it...this same person hadn't seen 5 Heartbeats.

So I figured we needed a list of these movies. Like a psuedo mandatory list of black films that are undisputed 'u should have seen this' rated. Like, you can't say 'I love gangster movies' but have never seen Scarface or any of the Godfathers.
(non-black folx, ya'll can play too...see how many of these you own/have seen).
Qualifications: Predominant black cast, could be widely regarded as a classic black film, you know at least 5 black people who have seen it and love it and when you meet someone black who hasn't seen it, you're surprised.
I'll start the list off with these:

your list skews very 80s-90s (methinks you must be pretty young)
the only eddie murphy OR richard pryor movie is "harlem knights"? are denzel washington or sidney poitier even on your list?
no "x" or "do the right thing" or "lady sings the blues" or "car wash" or "the wiz" or "carmen jones"...c'mon now, not even "superfly" or "the mack"?

EDIT: Ok, just reread the criteria. I wouldn't list this as I'm shocked when someone says they ain't seen it... but damn if it ain't a really great movie. Same goes for BROWN SUGAR. And THE WOOD.
