I mean, it's the same image as the postcards that my shop has hyping Blackest Night, but that right there -- and Ganthet's admission that he tweaked the Book of Oa because he foresaw BN -- all point to the fact that this might END UP being a big ass event in the long run of the continuity, but in the space of one issue, yeah, it was mainly about how bad ass it was to have the Atom drop a nok on us. I'm fine with that. It isn't the finale YET, it's just the set up for the finale, and making a bunch of DC staples into Lanterns is pretty sweet -- sound and fury ... signifying nothing? we can't actually say until later.
>but, to me, it didn't really advance the plot at all, and I >still have some major questions. we could know more about the >nature of nekron, and for this secret the guardians have been >keeping has been teased way too long.
the Guardians always have secrets, and the tagline at the end of this one was hyping Black Hand in the next one, so the way I see it -- this is the set up issue for the epic forces of good, and next one is set up for the epic forces of bad, and then we get a kick ass finale with long term implications for the GLU.
>also, and this is big for me, i *really* need some exposition >as to why all of this is happening on Earth. if you're a full >on GL nerd like most of us, you can guess, because Ganthet >called Earth the most emotionally rich planet at the end of >Dat Nestro War. but i want it fleshed out, given some meat, >with Nekron offering a fuller explanation of who/what he is >and why he wants Earth so bad.
cuz all the heroes are there. they'll invent some kind of reason, but I mean it's because all the heroes are there. remember the first BN, which was mainly a loving elegy to the richness of the DCU and all the heroes and villains that have been created through the years? that's why we're there, we're going to learn something about Black Hand, and Nekron will hopefully make more sense. Give it an issue, son!
>I guess my complaint is that as a three year GL reader who >went back and read *everything* since Johns started, I really >want the story to be completely fleshed out and finished. i >know that's an unrealistic expectation in an event comic, so >I'm not real mad, and I'm sure the ending is going to feature >some awesome battle moments. but right now i'm a little >wistful, because all of the War of Light and BN has been >moving way too fast for me since Tan started his Ruinfest 2009 >World Tour on the Fleezy storyline.
I've read *everything* Johns did, too, and I've been going back and reading everything post Sinestro War to prep for this event and everything. What I'm looking for is an end to the rein of the Guardians and some interesting tensions on the other side as the new corps establish their niche in the universe. It won't necessarily "resolve" anything, as much as it will reshape the GLU and create a new landscape to carve stories into. I'm not sure what "resolution" you were really thinking was coming...
>plus the splitting of the rings is, to me, a little cheesy and >unnecessary. there have got to be a lot of available rings >from recently deceased lanterns of all colors out there. have >ganthet summon them, rather than introduce something that has >me raise the brow.
Scare Crow as Yellow Lantern = rad. Don't overthink it.
