I understand why it's there, but I could do with a little less "HEY, YOU'RE...", and other first series name dropping. Don't need the constant reminders, especially when I'm trying to get with the characters and settings of this series.

But yeah, it was a solid episode. When that shit fell off the wall(?)in that early scene with Korra's parents, I smiled. The comedic elements of the first series was one of my favorite things, and I'm glad it's back. Action scenes were cool too, especially her fight with the thugs.

Junior Aang seems cool, but I hope they're able to create some strong supporting characters for Korra. Those Aang grandkids are annoying as hell. I hope we don't see too much of them.

Were genuinely geared towards building up the new era than tethering it to the old series.

The animation and the music were top notch, and I liked how this was an introduction into a newer, more technologically advanced but equally as dangerous time. They really tried to establish a clear difference in both life and personality btw Korra and Aang and I can appreciate it.

My two gripes are 1)all of the major characters thus far are voiced by white actors. After all of the uproar from the whitewashing of the movie, there's no reason why the majority of the cast isn't Asian since this world exists in an Asian influenced environment.

2)For a world with a female avatar, it still seems to be a predominantly male run environment. I didn't see any other female city guards besides Toph's daughter, no female probenders, no female leaders in the anti bending scenes, just men. Definitely a missed chance.

Saying that, my issues with it aren't enough to keep me from watching. Overall, the show is off to a strong start and I can't wait to see the next episode.

it honestly never crossed my mind that Amon stripping bending abilities is wrong.
im on the fence there until we see more about Amon's background and what (if any) code of honor he goes by.

but it's clear that the benders have a major advantage over the nonbenders and we've seen in the history of the show that there are benders who have no problems using their abilities to oppress others and further their own goals. that's why i find myself in support of the cause.

Very interesting flashback when Korra was being dragged on the ground. I saw Aang and Toph, but there is a third guy who I don't recognize. Wonder what these flashbacks represent. Are they flashbacks Korra is having or are they just for the viewer?

Man, Asami looks exactly like Lust from Full Metal Alchemist.

the final stretch where they found the underground warehouse was so bad ass. I thought it wda been the shit if wuts his face's daughter would've been an enemy tho ... hot damn their story telling is on pointtt.

lovin this series so much. and the steampunk/1930sishness of it all.
darker tone, less kiddy stuff which means better dialogue and no wasted time. Bolin is hilarious. Pabu is the shit and fills Momo's shoes quite nicely, however Korra's polar bear ain't no Appa.
i too wanted the daughter to join her father's cause, but they played it so well that i coulda seen it goin either way and i still woulda been thoroughly satisfied with the outcome.
the fight scenes are really where it was at this ep, not to mention some snazzy direction and the music (which has been fucking awesome).

this show stays winning becos it makes valid points for supporting Equalists/Amon and for Korra's crusade/Republic City's task force. i can't see it ending just with a final battle scenario, i feel like at the end of the series (aka end of Book II) both sides have to come to some kinda mutually beneficial arrangement. perhaps instead of only a certain selection of humanity having the ability to bend, maybe they could come up with a way to gift bending to those without it, so then EVERYONE'S on a level playing. everyone's a bender. if it ends with just a Korra/Amon showdown then..there's kinda no point to anything.

Asami's gonna be a pretty awesome ally to have. seems like the main group is now formed with those 4. nice how it happened in a real roundabout way.

Other than the main mystery, who is amon and what is his goal the writers are really answering questions.

-The viewer finds out really quickly that the head of future corp is evil and Asami is good. I think that could have been a mystery that really dragged out.

-The writers could really have made the whole pro-bending tournament and Amon's attack take the entire season, but they wrapped that up quickly.

-They clear up the relationship between Chief Beifong and Tenzin without dancing around it.

-Korra comes out really quickly and tells Mako that she likes him.

I think these are all things that on a lesser show could have been dragged out with filler.

the more i think about it..asami offers the perfect balance for the fourth team member as a non bender .. plus there's the love..square? as a dynamic . they've answered questions immediately which hopefully is a precursor for even bigger things to come which i couldn't even begin to fathom. that last episode where bei fong went ham in the stadium was good enough to be a finale

I think he's using Bloodbending & chi blocking together to disable benders.

I think, essentially, he wants to thin the ranks and leave him and his the only benders.

i think the most obvious theory at this point would be that Yakone is Amon, but it seems TOO obvious so i'm still not sure who he could be.

and WTF with "General Iroh"? that confused me for a quick sec lol. i think thats sposed to be Zuko's kid right? hilarious they're using the same voice actor as Zuko (Dante Basco).

that was a major plot point in the finale to the last series

but then aang touched the forehead and chest
so i question whether the technique has advanced or if the bending is really gone for good

i had tears by the end of this. the brothers, the love triangle, the healing! gotta watch it again

and i was soooo waiting for Amon's backstory, cos i knew he wasn't just guna be an all-out villain. i love how the entire Avatar series paints sympathetic pictures of all the villains. Amon/Noatak was no different to the OG series' Sozin/Roku backstory. everyone's got a motive we can believe and even understand.
i was genuinely SHOCKED at Tarlok's final act of mercy. not the decision *i* would've made, but ye. honestly didn't pick it. just as Noatak shed a tear, too. daymn thats tuff stuff.

altho i think all the characters are pretty swell, i couldnt help but think thru the ENTIRE finale..."poor Asami" lol. sheit i wish i had Mako's problem like i used to back in the day: do i stick with hot bitch #1? or go for hot bitch #2? plus his treatment of Asami in general has been pretty mean and ungrateful. he's probly my least fav character atm. Bolin stays at the top, a VERY worthy successor to the now-legendary Sokka.

this season felt like it emphasised "crappy fathers" as its theme lol. Yakone being the obvious big choice (sidenote: ALWAYS awesome to hear Clancy Brown on a toon), and of course Hiroshi. and i guess in the end it becomes about breaking the cycle of violence and revenge, to prevent more new ghosts being created that will haunt future generations. sins of the father n all that.

other than that, still absorbing it.
wouldn't mind seeing a full-on flashback to the original crew just after their defeat of the Firelord, if just to hear the OG voice cast one more time (but in their late teens or sumthn).

yeah, the backstory was good. not to mention how it contrasted with Mako/Bolin's relationship. i love the running theme of family in this series. in the original, the kids kind of made their own family and things were warm and fuzzier. this time around, folks are older and they deal with the fact that sometimes family can do shitty things. and on a somewhat related note, Tenzin's brother Bumi seemed awesome, LOL. oh, and glad to know the secret to Amon's power.

Asami mos def got played, and i'm wondering if that's gonna bite them in the ass later. maybe she can hook up w/ General Iroh. but Bolin would help to lighten her mood.

overall, i liked how Korra is so different from Aang and that it wasn't really predictable. i was geeked to see her enter the avatar state.
