And yes, I'm recommending this nearly solely for the nudity, which is outstanding.

I second that, but I recommend any film starring Ludivine Sagnier for that matter solely based upon her mere presence and potential of nudity.

La Petit Lili is another film of hers that's available on Instant Watch with nudity scenes on par with Swimming Pool - and coming in a distant second, based upon Chekov's play The Seagulls.

I saw it at SIFF a few years back and, to me, it was like a French Michael Mann movie.

Shoot The Piano Player (one of my all-time faves) - even though some might consider it "avant-garde" or whatever, it's pretty straightforward, i doubt u'll be disappointed

Hiroshima, Mon Amour - this one is more "arty"

Really good ensemble comedy. Audrey Tautou is in it.

Also:

Triplets of Belleville - quirky animation, catchy music

The camera work, the soundtrack, hell even the dialogue is great. Yeah the story as laid-out probably wouldn't have been good if put in order but it could still have been reshot to be made a somewhat decent film. I liked it a lot more than Memento, which could never have been a good movie if put in order regardless if it was reshot but also had no great acting, directing or anything really interesting besides the one "trick".

I thought everything about it was completely pointless and a lazy attempt at using shock violence to say something. He's obviously a Kubrick devotee (see posters on the walls and other homages throughout) but there's not enough thought behind this to step into this realm. I don't mind disturbing movies but when there is no reward for all the misery you are forced to watch then I become irritated. To me this film is flat out garbage with the ending only further confirming that. I wish I had walked out.

The camera work & soundtrack is nauseating & the dialogue was vulgar for shock value. Far from great.

Pretty good thriller.

But I guess you could just wait a year or two for the inevitable Hollywood remake...

I'd suggest going into it pretty blind though...I would've enjoyed it even more if I hadn't read the premise before.

Great movie. It's about a French student who studies abroad in Barcelona and has to deal with being in a new country, living in a house with international roommates, having a long distance relationship, and having to deal with the difficulty of returning back to France. It reminded me of my time studying abroad in France. It was cool because it's mainly in French but he speaks Spanish when he's in class or talking to classmates, and in English when he's at home with his roommates (Spanish girl, British girl, Italian guy, German guy, and I think the other one was Swedish). It's a real funny movie. Oh, and Audrey Tatou plays his girlfriend (is she in every French movie? LOL)

IMHO.

Even if one doesn't find Wages full of tension or suspense, I don't think one can deny the masterful filmmaking especially the editing.
