"The Official Juno Post"

Definately this year's Little Miss Sunshine.

Everyone was great. Ellen Page will probably (hopefully) be nominated for an Oscar.

But the one performance that really surprised me the most was Jennifer Garner. She conveyed such quite sadness. Who knew she had it in her?

but I still liked it, there was some funny stuff in it

I thought Page, Allison Janney, Michael Cera, and J.K. Simmons stood out

Good (first time) script, Diablo Cody nailed the difficult abiility of giving each individual character a distinct voice

The dialogue they quoted sounded very *blinking in neon lights* QUIRKY, and the article about Diablo Cody made her seem like one of those people that all we're gonna hear about is her quirky story.

Too indie, too quirky, too friendly. I dunno, I don't trust it. I love Michael Cera, Jason Bateman and Rainn Wilson, so I'll probably end up seeing it - but I'm not happy about it.

Esteemed author of the celebrated, double-platinum post: "Drake - Wu-Tang Forever".

It's a pretty funny movie, but yeah, the above rings true. Kinda forced dialogue at times, but it was definitely an entertaining flick.

There was one scene where I was cringing for like 5 full minutes... you who've seen it probably know what I'm talking about.

This is his second film and I like the direction he's headed in. I guess when you're pops has already "made it" you can do films without overtly pandering. I liked this one a lot. It was endearing without getting sentimental. Ellen Page was awesome. I couldn't stand her in Hard Candy, but I loved her in this. I, surprisingly, really liked Jennifer Garner in this. I actually connected with her character. Overall, I think it was a good effort on everyone's part.

She played the boring suburban housewife part perfect, then when it came time to humanize her, that was pretty striking too.

I still think she's funny looking, but good performance.

Once it does *come out*. They have had almost 100 free screenings the last 3 months. I saw it back in November. I guess they're trying to build word of mouth, but 100+ free screenings seems a bit excessive if you ask me.

You can see it free by following this link:

I saw Juno, Enchanted, and This Christmas all in one week for free back in November. Gotta get those free screenings when you can when you're broke.

Bought the ticket, and walked in line at Union Square theater, and the line marched directly into the theater without anyone checking the ticket.

the main six actors are all excellent, especially jk simmons who comes in and slays his scenes. page is also very good and the movie wouldn't work without her to carry it.

the dialogue can be distractingly quirky and shows the hand of the screenwriter too often but i found most of the dialogue funny and, when necessary, appropriately emotional. i do already fear all the stories about diablo cody (she was a stripper! she wrote the screenplay at a target!) but i did like a lot of the writing.

Ellen Page and Michael Cera are bringing nerd chic to an alltime high in Hollywood. and they are terrific advocates.

Bateman, Garner, Simmons, and Janney are all superb as well. the characters are flawed. but you learn to love them for their flaws. they dont suddenly become perfect to wrap things up nicely. you as the viewer just learn to accept and love them for their flaws. its quite humane and wonderful.

way better. i almost hated LMS.

dialogue was sometimes a bit much, but mostly great. kinda like gilmore girls in a 2 hour movie. which is a good thing. if you were a fan of GG def watch this.

very well cast. kitty pryde was just perfect. allison janey had some great lines, and im glad they didnt hate each other.

the biggest disappointment was george michael and jason bateman not sharing any screentime together.

nice little soundtrack as well

i honestly had a grin on my face during the whole movie.

Not sure how I feel about all these LMS comparisons... They certainly share some common ground but I think Juno tends to lean towards the more subdued and possibly honest side of things.

Now I liked LMS a lot... It probably made me laugh more than Juno did, but of course it went at greater lengths to get those laughs. I didn't find Juno to be too terribly wacky or quirky... Look at the van in Juno vs. the van in Little Miss Sunshine. That pretty much sums up all you need to know about how these films differ in the way they deliver their humor.

Great dialogue delivered by solid acting is what sells this film. I didn't find it to be too quirky or written-sounding. Juno is one of those smart ass high schoolers who almost always has a snarky retort up the sleeve. That sort of thing only really bothers me when everyone in the movie is just as witty. But the characters all displayed varying degrees of snark so I was able to buy into it.

The story tossed a few twists and turns in there that I didn't go in expecting (I didn't expect to like Garner, either). Good stuff.

I will say that if this movie suffered from any of its own quirkiness, the blame probably falls on the soundtrack guy's shoulders. Hey soundtrack guy, when is it ever appropriate to play a Moldy Peaches song during a labor scene? Way to take me out of it, soundtrack guy.

Oh and how about that opening title sequence, huh? That was Shadowplay, same outfit that did the also-excellent opening title sequence to the also excellent 'Thank You for Smoking'.

JK Simmons, Ellen Page, and Jennifer Garner were all great. Michael Cera is one of the best awkward actors ever...and judging from the TSOYA podcast where Jesse interviewed him, I'm not sure he's really acting. The scene with Rainn Wilson was great, but who'da thought Vern Schillinger would be able to be a funny, likable father character?

Anyway, I get the LMS comparisons, but IMO this movie was much funnier than LMS...whereas LMS is likely the better movie.

I loved the flick, I actually thought LMS was funnier but this the better film. Cera is so good, but I wonder if he'll ever be able to play a different role, lol.

and Minneapolis most def stand up, I didn't even know it was supposed to be based in my home city. Although it was filmed in Vancouver, I still love the shoutout to St. Cloud, Mankato, Stillwater, etc.

I honestly thought Diablo Cody was a guy, lol. Just looked at her imdb profile, really intersting stuff. She lives in Minneapolis now, born in the Chi. Look at the profile, intersting stuff, she's hot too (I love me some yt indie girls). She's got a cat named douchepacker. lol

i actually did not find juno to be a very likable main character, but i like ellen page anyway and i think she put in a really good effort. i also really enjoyed allison janney, michael cera, and jennifer garner (who suprised me).

Think I would've liked it better if I hadn't read all those gushy reviews. Didn't really find it all that brilliant. "Ghost World" is still the classic in the awkward, quirky White kid genre to me. This felt like the girl version of all the Wes Anderson/Noah Baumbach films.

Definitely a winner for the Jason Bateman/Jen Garner performances and putting me on to the Moldy Peaches/Kimya Dawson, who I'd never taken the time to listen to before the film.

Just saw Juno. I did find the dialogue to be slightly Gilmore Girlsesque. It was snappy and felt very forced in the beginning, but mellowed considerably as the movie went. I loved Gilmore Girls for about one season and then couldn't stomach the cutesiness and snappy talk any longer.

I wasn't crazy about Little Miss Sunshine, but I really enjoyed Juno. Ellen Page and Michael Cera made this great. Supporting players (especially Jen Garner and Allison Janey) were flawless and the music was on point. Loved the suburbia scenes and the ending was nice. I thought this was a solid movie. Not really brilliant, but an excellent first effort from Diablo. I would see more of her stuff.

but i disliked this movie mostly because of juno.

all of the stuff that people find endearing about it felt too try hard to me. everyone else was pretty much awesome, but juno...man.

if you're trying to make a movie about normal people, why can't thye be normal? this movie was all over the place.

now i must watch hard candy so i can decide ellen page's fate in my future.

The dialogue was quite out there at the start(seemingly trying too hard to prove that these cats were kinda edgy teenagers), but it became far more believable as the movie went on.

Regardless of that, I thought the performances were excellent, particularly those of Page and Garner. Just excellent casting and acting all around, teamed with some hilarious writing.

I found the pacing to be excellent along with the mix of comedy to dramatic moments....almost reminded me of the top-tier Scrubs episodes.

Very enjoyable movie for me.

at the beggining i really was annoyed by her. But the dialogue mellow downed and the people weren't trying to sound hip and make a smart ass joke every two seconds.

I mean, in some scenes ( when she first meet gardner and bateman's character) i was thinking, "Is she really making 50-11 smart ass jokes in this situation?"

Why are you even comparing it to LMS, they're very different and not at all comparable.

Ellen Page did a great job, and I liked the dialogue, I guess because she reminded me of this weird chick that I was cool with HS.

She used to throw slang in, with her lily white sayings. She was really into hiphop and but then would do a 180 on you and throw out some punk. I wonder what ole Liz is doing now.

yeah, Me not really trying to pay attention to the hipsterness of the movie, I enjoyed it. I did realize how hip they tried to actually be though, & it definitely made the movie less funny, not by much though.

The initial phone coversation with Juno and her friend was kinda painful. But I definitely enjoyed this film, it was funny and wonderfully cast.

I don't really agree with the Gilmore Girls comparison though.

On Gilmore Girls, they always talk like that for no real reason and that's why it annoying. IMO, that type of dialogue is more believable in Juno because Juno has that weird girl personality and, believe it or not, I have seen weird girls that talk like that.

I remember I had a friend who used to suggest I watch GG for the dialogue and after seeing one episode I wanted to punch him in the balls for even suggesting that show.

if you watch ALIAS, she has those moments..but she was very surprising as Vanessa Loring. What could have been very one note was rendered very deep and profound.

Jennifer should be noticed for her work. But, given that Cate Blanchett is all but a LOCK for best supporting actress (unless Jennifer Jason Leigh gets in for Margot At The Wedding), Jennifer probably wont be nominated..she should be though. but, this year there were so many strong supporting roles for women that Jennifer's and possibly Allison Janney's will be overlooked...

but the cast was great in Juno..they really were.

I can't say I liked it. The dialogue wasn't really an issue for me; you either go with that style of writing or you don't. I wasn't crazy about it but couldn't say it was objecticely "bad" in the same way Attack of The Clones's dialogue was. I just found most of the characters/conflicts underwritten. I never really felt Juno was struggling with anything. And why was Jason Bateman's character married to Jennifer Garner's again?

Still, the backlash against this movie Ive seen on some comedy message boards is more than a tad ridiculous.

I think I was expecting a bit more, but that's my fault, not the movie's. And as it is, pretty solid film. I can agree with some of the criticisms. Was disappointed in the lacking usage of Michael Cera.

JK Simmons OWNS this movie though.

I'll give it a B. Dont really care for the LMS comparisons either. Just dont see it.

the dialogue didn't bother me much

Ellen Page really made the movie though...wasn't sure if I'd like her or not after 10 minutes but she hit all the right notes by the end

actually all the acting was good

what bothered me most was that soundtrack -- gah

half the movie played out like one of those pretentious hipster music videos...I swear there were 12 songs in the first 15 minutes

*and Juno's friend was a straight jump-off...I know the actress is older but that's why I get religious around high schools*

In response to Reply # 0

Jennifer Garner and Michael Cera are so great in that movie. JG I didn't appreciate as much as I should have until the 2nd viewing and MC was just perfect like always every single moment he's on film. JG pulled off a very tricky thing in that film, she was neurotic and obsessive and unlikeable WITHOUT EVER ACTUALLY BEING UNLIKEABLE. I rooted for her more than anyone else. Also she showed a deft comic touch with timing in her bewildered yet sweetly honest responses to Juno and her little friend's "teenagey-inside-jokery" offerings.

Michael Cera, God I hope he doesn't go Anthony Michael Hall on us, he's got that Bill Murray/Will Ferrell thing happening where I crack up just watching them be serious and waiting for them to be funny. The kid's brilliant.

Do they give Oscars for casting? If they do, whoever cast: JG, MC, Justin Bateman, and the fantastic character actors who played Juno's folks...ANNNDDD Cut Chemist(?!) deserves the Oscar, the Golden Globe, the Golan-Globus, the Golden Girls, the Go-Go Yubari, and any and all awards for that job.

Justin Bateman, solid as ever. What did PTPers think of "Mark Loring"? Was he a bad guy?

Juno is a solid entertaining film yet easily forgetable. I can appreciate the storyline about a pregnant teen avoiding preachiness and politics. Yet, I think the story could have used a bit more dramatic situations. I mean Juno is a sarcastic, hostile and cavalier character. Any such person is always constantly butting heads with somebody. I did not really enjoy this fantasy film . Can't really believe almost everybody here did. This is definitely a white folks movie, lol.
