How can we as intelligent beings submit to the self-imprisonment
of a “saline consciousness" which insist that, contrary to all historic
evidence, Africa stops wherever salt water licks the shores? Or that,
conversely, all that is bound by salt water on the African continent is
necessarily African. What other race, and especially on the African continent,
has lost 200 million of its people through forcible uprooting? Elementary
curiosity justifies that we seek out those who survived of
that number and inquire in what forms have they survived? What have
they achieved? What have they contributed to their new environments?
What lessons, if any, have their specific genius evolved for those who
were left behind. The African habit of celebration, which is an act of
recollection, assessment and rededication validates this impulse.

it has something to do with living in a society or let's say better ''group''. libido and such things...
i know it sounds vague right now but i'm kinda on the run and lazy.
and following a leader has nothing to do with being lazy or dumb imo.
imo this world is like it is at the moment because
a) the leaders of our world are not good leaders
b) people act like sheep and don't question/learn from their leaders
c) they think that they don't need a leader
(one reason is because they forget that experience is one of the most important things in life. look at how we treat older people (past sixty)in our society.)

...of something or someone. Good leaders don't come out of a vaccuum because in order to inspire or motivate others they have to be inspired or motivated themselves.

Im just as baffled as you are

I think one reason could be people are caught up in circumstance all of the time, the thrill of the moment and not really paying attention to the past or the future, or the facts for that matter. They want answers but are too lazy to research when all of the answers are right there.

Lies run sprints.

Leader/Leadership is the most worthless creation of modern civilization.Only animals need a constant supervision and only the pathetic needs someone to tell him/her what to do or remedy their problems. I consider myself an antiestablishment and I don't need to follow no one but my own conscience. If each man and woman follow their conscience and police them selves, social problems will cease to exist. Then we wouldn't need those ego-tripping muthafuckas to lead us.

i don't think this is a modern concept at all.

nice illusion.

well, someone will always lead. think about that.
ever been part of a group?
i think the reason we are having those ego-tripping mofos is because everyone is following their own conscience (or lack thereof).

Yes, I am part of a group of people that are smart, think for themselves, formulate their own opinions and question authority. Tell me why is it necessary to have leaders that are elitist, racist, pathological liars, hypocrites? George Bush for example who does not possess a single ounce of integrity, how is he better to lead? Don't you know that 90% of the world crimes, atrocities, social and environmental disasters are created/perpetrated by governments/leaders. Just imagine a world without them.

okay.

i don't think that's neccessary at all. and the original question was ''why do people need leaders?''. as far as i understand it the word leader is not automatically to be associated with something negative. maybe that's your problem.
true, most political leaders we have today may not be perfect examples to follow but i still think a life without leaders is an illusion.

i can imagine a world with better leaders but i guess you think you don't need leaders at all.
