"Seriously, Whats wrong with eating pork???"
Thu Jun-05-03 09:16 AM

I asked a vegetarian friend of mine this question and got some pretty interesting answers s/a...pigs harbor infection because they have poor circulation; puss seeps from the hooves of pigs, pigs are cannibalistic (they eat their DEAD babies)...

My stomach turned while listening but I'm not thouorghly convinced. I need some kind of proof. Whether it be a general consensus, or a research website, or a story that will make me url all over my desk.

I've googled Pig and Pork and both searches turned up more Pig/Pork lovers associations than I ever thought existed.

Would this 'bullshit' be anything like the Christian 'bullshit' aversion to meat on their sabbath?
And while in the past, the dietary laws were set to deal with trichinosis, the congenital high blood pressure in the Jewish community makes eating pork a bad idea as a high-sodium food source. Similarly, modern interpretations of dietary law refer to prohibition of treif (non-kosher foods) as an expression of personal and religious discipline – that not all things are meant to be possessed and consumed.

I like pigs...ALIVE! Seriously, pork was the first meat I stopped eating as a teenager because most of the people in my fam suffered from early hypertension, obesity and later heart disease and other serious health problems. I noticed how folks could but every part of the pig cheap and use it for everything because they were poor. In my young head onlu poor people ate pork so I was determined to break the socio-economic cycle, a series of rebellious moves that I am very thankful for today.

im pretty sure it wasn't just the pork

did your family member's EXCERCISE?

that's the problem, everybody just wants to blame it on the food, and not their own inactiveness

you can eat what you want, just as long as you burn that shit off, you'll be alright

Are you being serious? Eat what you want, just burn that shit off? Any knowledgeable health expert will tell that good health and physical fitness begins in the kitchen. Food is the fuel for the body and just like the fuel we put in our cars we must make sure that it is pure, undiluted, and healthy for optimal perfomance. I understand what you are saying as far as "burning that shit off" but disease and ailments can not be exercised away and that is the major issue with the consumption of pig.

>did your family member's EXCERCISE?

Yep. On their knees as domestics or working long hours in sweat shops. In fact right before my grandmother put in 12-14 hours at the factory, she went to the gym. Please.

>that's the problem, everybody just wants to blame it on the
>food, and not their own inactiveness

This is about lifestlye (and life choices), not inactiveness. It is also about soci-economics. Poor people don't exercise, they are too busy trying to eat and when money is short they buy the cheapest food they can afford and stretch out. That was pork for us. As a child, my mother had to eat pig brains with eggs for protein because it was cheap.

>you can eat what you want, just as long as you burn that
>shit off, you'll be alright

That's bullshit. Eat to live and you'll be alright because we are born to breathe, eat and rest, creating a balance for optimum living. For some exercise is a luxury.

After stopping my pork consumption, I stopped eating red meat in college and chicken in grad school, and by my late 20's I was mostly off fish (but not quite). But it didn't stop there. I started fasting ever so often and working out at the gym three times per week. Then, my mother, who was way more athletic than me, got colon cancer (she eats everything). My father has been struggling, too, and he plays basketball.

In conclusion, I figured out early that there is a connection between what we eat and how we live, how we effectively deal with adversity (stress), etc. Again, not eating pork was the first in many steps towards my personal freedom and health.

>getting snotty with me on a post?
>wow, aint know you had it in you girl

Sure and there's a lot more where that came from. But my post was not even trying to be funny. People love to talk about exercise and changing lifestyle but I still can't figure out when people who work 12-14 hours and still have to take care of their families are going to find the time to exercise.

There's a lot to this and it's not just obesity...and my grandmother was slim and trim and a alcoholic. She self-medicated to deal with the stress of her job. She didn't even know about meditation or yoga or even cardio.

My point is that at the core of the issue is how to make a change in the whole way of life, from the job to the home, from what you eat to what you do for leisure...and exercise. Many slim and obese folks in my family suffer from hypertension and other health-related ailments and their diet makes these problems worse...and not just pork.

I loved my grandmother very much. I have a photo of her soaking her feet, looking defeated after a long day of work. She looked angry. This was the same woman who served up pig feet, pig ears, pig everything because it was cheap and she did not have the money to buy beef or chicken to feed her children. Most of her life she was thin and she died of cancer (not alcoholism).

My grandfather, her ex-husband, died of a heart attack. My mother, a former college athlete, almost died of colon cancer last year. Most of my younger family members suffer from hypertension, including a cousin who was set to go to Russia to dance with a ballet troupe (she never made it).

I do think that diet is part of a larger picture, not the whole picture. People who exercise and eat right can choose to eat pork but, for me, there are other alternatives.

Sometimes I think about my grandmother and remember that she was the main reason I stopped eating pork. I was angry as a teenager and, as I stated before, it was the start of a big change in my lifestyle.

<--- Blame this lady for Nutty.

and whatever else comes with not knowing how to find productive ways to handle stress like cancer. I practice mindfulness when I am feeling overly stressed. I feel my heart beat faster and I relax. One of the things that I noticed is how often people self-medicate. This is a sure sign of a stressful lifestlye and some call it social (drinking for example).

nothing wrong with it if you want to eat it. Let those that think there is something wrong with it avoid it...its no healthier or more unsanitary than any other livestock.

Many people believe that abstaining from pork is a purely Jewish or Muslim "custom." However, nothing could be further from the truth. The Zulu of South Africa, among other nations of Africa detest the pig as much as Muslims and Jews. Not simply because of religious doctrine but dietary reasons. The Zulu, in particular, according to J.A. Rogers often state that the pig is not for the Black man, only the White man. As Black people our first contact with the pig, in terms of consumption, occured during slavery when the slavemaster would throw out his scraps. And our ancestors, many were Muslim and Yoruba that don't eat pig, were forced to eat it and feed their young. The pig was first domesticated in parts of Europe to help clean up the caves and hillsides that were laid to waste by roving bands of barbaric and pagan "tribes." The pig will eat just about anything including its own feces and its young. This animal is so unclean that it is often considered a living sewer because its intestinal system is not advanced enough to separate nutrients in food from the waste. It has a sewer line that releases puss through its forelegs as you have mentioned. It has also been used to clear rattlesnakes from swamps due to the ability of the toxins in pigs to often counteract the snake venom. The worms in the pig, called trichina, are thought to be "cured" when pork is properly prepared. Even if they are "cured", whatever that means, we have to ask ourselves if we are truly satisfied in eating fried/baked/barbecued worms.

Furthermore, when someone is diagnosed with high blood pressure, heart problems, etc. one of the first foods a doctor tells the patient to limit is pork because of the sheer toxicity of the pig, high cholesterol and fat content, and high sodium.

Remember, only a child considers all things as food and places it in his/her mouth. The pig, despite the fact that it is an animal, is not fit for human consumption. It is true that there are many unclean animals, but does that mean we should become overwhelmed and say the hell with it? No. As spiritual beings we enter houses of worship (churches, mosques, synagogues etc.) and often are very conscious of how we talk, dress, act, and of what we bring into the "house of God." However, we need to also be as conscious, even moreso, of what we put in the "real temple of God", the human body. As of Thursday, June 5th 2003, the pig is still the foulest of all animals.

Please consult various authors and books including Afrikan Holistic Health, How to Eat to Live I & II, LIfe without the Pig, Heal Thyself and many others.

''The pig was first domesticated in parts of Europe to help clean up the caves and hillsides that were laid to waste by roving bands of barbaric and pagan "tribes." ''

Actually, the pig was domesticated in China not Europe. I am sure however that some Europeans did doemsticate a pig. The Polynesians by the way happen to have lots of pig in their diet as well.

You are right about Africans not eating pig. The Egyptians considered it to be a filthy animal, while they denoted the evil deity of Set. Semites mostly likely inheritaed the custom from Egyptians,as well as the custom of eating no fish with scales.

If pig/pork is "ok" then, why does it have so many negative connotations such as: "pig-headed", the "pigs" (crooked cops),"pig sty", you're a "pig"...etc, etc?

Tell me something that one could say to/about/describing you/someone that has reference to a pig and you not be offended.

Not eating pig is an ancient custom practiced in KMT AND NUBIA thousands of year ago. The pig is seen as a foul somewhat satanic animal in ancient KMT.

Many other ancient African societies did not mess with pigs it is only when the Africans were enslaved and forced to eat the savage european's scraps that many Africans began eating pig.

Personally I try to stay away from meat period although I some time each chicken but with all the stuff they are injecting into these animals these days I don't eat any of it.

the slavery issue is understandable to stay away from pork for personal reasons, but the idea of detesting the satanic foul pig is still based on some bullshit out of date superstitions, be they muslim, KMT, jewish, Nubians or whatever else.

now, i resent savage europeans. I'd say we were all pretty savage back in the day. Cultures go through cycles of refinement and barbarism, often resulting from contact with other cultures. Africa wasn't a utopia before the white man came, and europe wasn't perfect either.

i don't believe anything is "wrong" with the flesh of the swine (haha) -- it's really just a matter of cultural preferences, dietary balance, and discretion. for every "the hog is inherently unhealthy, filthy, and satanic" believer you'll find someone who swears they live a fit lifestyle with pork.

i slammed down way too much last spring in the philippines with my countrified relatives after they slaughtered 2 for about 150 pounds of meat. i felt a little ill after my 2nd straight day of pork meals.

not to jump on you (please don't take it that way) but I notice you often quote and base your philosophies directly on scripture. Realizing that you are coming from a Christian perspective, what is the rationale then behind ignoring this passage?:

*note that I probably won't respond as I'm not trying to debate it. I'm not a fan of pork myself. I would just be interested in reading your perspective.

Mark 7

Clean and Unclean

1The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus and 2saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were "unclean," that is, unwashed. 3(The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders. 4When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles. )
5So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, "Why don't your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with 'unclean' hands?"
6He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
" 'These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
7They worship me in vain;
their teachings are but rules taught by men.' 8You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men."
9And he said to them: "You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! 10For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.' 11But you say that if a man says to his father or mother: 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban' (that is, a gift devoted to God), 12then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother. 13Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that."
14Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15Nothing outside a man can make him 'unclean' by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him 'unclean.' "
17After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. 18"Are you so dull?" he asked. "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'? 19For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean.")
20He went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him 'unclean.' 21For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.' I almost missed this

I'm not ignoring this passage because Christ is not saying here it is OK to eat pork or"unclean foods". It would contradict what is written. There are several scriptures the unlearned use to justify eating "unclean" foods and this also is one of them. But we must remember to read them in the proper context. Sometimes it helps to read the whole chapter first to get an understanding of what is going on. Man is so concerned with the traditions they have created and make no matter of what God's tradition or standard is. What law are you breaking for not washing your hands...none. What Christ was telling them here in this passage is that not to concern ourselves with the washing of our hands but the standard that God has put forth and that is having a pure heart.

I can see why people use this and other scriptures to justify eating pork but what needs to be understood first is that Christ/Paul/Peter wasnt always talking about foods. God uses earthy symbols so that the "earthy man" will understand Him better. Just like in Acts 10 this is also a scripture the unlearned use, Peter wasnt even talking about foods but the Gentiles. You know Christ spoke in alot of parables which cause people to make interpatations but if you let the Book speak for its self you dont have to worry about interpatation. If Christ told us he came to do the will of the Father...who sent him....why would he change what God commanded in the Dietary Law? question like this made me go back and search because I believe God's word to be truth and not tainted. Line upon line precept upon precept.

I hope you gained an understanding if not I would be more then happy to discuss it further.

p.s. I not offend nor does it bother me when yourself/others question my faith. It provides the opportunity to testify and sometimes gives me a chance to learn something new, that I can take back to the crew and we can reason about it. Those that know Christ will understand what Im saying and those that dont wont get me at all. "the harvest is great but the labourers are few".

Shalom

and decorate (PORK) with some pineapple chunks, cheeries, apples and grapes for "fruit fiber" to eradicate the worms that did not die.

i will mound the 12 slabs of pork ribs and surround with chicken dressing, topped with slithering slices of red bell peppers and green bell peppers.

stick straight up some red/green firm hot peppers.

top the dressing with little assorted, colorful umbrellas and assorted colorful toothpicks/w colorful plastic tips!

place pepcid ac pills in a beautiful fake pier 1 import dish!

gonna be a wonderful "Pork Fat Rule"--"BAM" ! day. 4th day of july-"tommorrow,tomorrow"!

35. "i stopped eating meat"
In response to Reply # 0
Fri Jun-06-03 11:12 AM

because my body stopped wanting it

period. it just got gross. and pork wasn't the first thing to go in my case. (i stopped eating beef first, then pork, then chicken/turkey/fish. it took about a year & a half to phase everything out).

in my personal experience and in the literature i've read, meat-eating (even just chicken & turkey) is not conducive to optimal health. i do still eat eggs/cheese, but in moderation. i've developed an allergy to milk.

plus, conditions like cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure run in my family. eating a diet of heavy in and/or primarily/solely consisting of fruits and vegetables tends to prevent these (and many other) conditions.

nothing. if you believe is it is okay to eat pork then eat pork. the thing about all these religious customs or what have you is that there is no right and wrong with many issues. it's just what you believe. it's not the healthiest of things, but meh, what is healthy these days?

In response to Reply # 48

outlawed pork because of the region that the religions originated were hot and poor preservation made it so eating pork literally endangered one's life. I think that a moderate amount of pork is perfectly ok but i completely understand and respect people who choose not to for religous reasons.

In response to Reply # 0

choose wild game, such as deer, rabbit, duck, or fish.
If you want to eat pork, trek down to the tropics and hunt some wild boar. Domesticated animals eat inferior fattening diets, and they do not get adequate exercise. Their bodies and the meat they produce is second rate.
If you eat meat, choose wild game instead.

I read some shit that said nowadays because most chickens we eat are raised on corporate farms where the sanitary conditions of the chicken coupes or whatever they're called, are like virutal cesspools of bacteria. Because of this, pork is actually CLEANER than chicken. Im lookin for the link now....

76. "VERY IMPORTANT ADDITION TO THIS POST..."
In response to Reply # 0

I was given this booklet by a Sunni Muslim (Iraqi) on Sunday (yesterday) while I was out "Yard-Sale-ing"

The name of it is PORK and has an illustration of a pig with a HUGE red X over it. It's by Sayyid Saeed Akhtar Rizvi. It does not list a website or email information as it dated 1978 (Revised Edition) It does, however have an address where you can write in to receive more info on this subject or on Islamic Studies. the address is...World Organization For Islamic Services, P.O. Box 11365-1545, Tehran - IRAN.

Like I said before, the book is dated 1978, but hopefully the po box hasn't changed.

I haven't finished reading it, but it speak/quotes Biblical and Quran scriptures regarding pork/pig, it speaks on the bacteria and disease associated with pig/pork as well as other things. Here are some examples from the book...

1. Leviticus, 1 -8 - "And the swine...he is unclean to you. Of the flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you"

It also says that the same command is repeated in Deutoronomy, 14:8

"Forbidden to you are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine..." Qur'an, 5:3)

2. Talks about "Balantidium Coli" and the affects it has on humans...say that it is "normal inhabitant of the pigs' bowels. It is excreted by its feces and finding the external environment unsuitable for itself, develops a shell round it which is called a "cyst"...it say further that..."the cyst cintains living parasites that communicate with man's diet thus enter his bowels"

3. The booklet quotes Dr. E.A. Widmer in his article "Pork, Man and Disease (Good Health, vol.69,no 1):- "The protozoan ciliate, known technically as Balantidum Coli, is extremely common in swine. Recent surveys in various countries reveal an incident range of 21 to 100 per-cent. This organism is much less common in man. The general incidence of 1 percent reported in Peurto Rico is representative of the incidence in many countries."

from same qoute (emphasis added by booklet author) "When found in man serious clinical symptoms may result" (end article quote)

..."It creates uncurable dysentry".

...I found this pdf on dysentry and ther bacterial diseases...I don't know why I asked...

http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~eworobe/122lecture%2016.pdf

I'll post more re this later...also remember...I DIDN'T WRITE THIS BOOK...I'm just quoting from it.

If you found out all the bacteria that sits in just about every other kind of meat. Ever wonder why fish smells like coochie? The same bacteria that hangs out in coochie also hangs out in fish bodies. Mushroom eatin muhfuckuhs are eating fungus. You like eating bleu cheese? That shit got bacteria in it. Same thing with cottage cheese and yogurt. This "unclean" shit is ridiculous...
