"Just Freedom?"

equality? justice? is that all?

do you think that in the midst of "the struggle" we have lost sight of what the ultimate goal is?

do you think there is one?

...that amongst this ongoing and never-ending stuggle for equality for all mankind in a world that simply wants to but chooses not to, some of those of the African-American persuasion have either grown weary of it and have settled for what things are today OR others have decided to act as if everything is perfect and neglect certain injustices and see them as "something that can happen to anybody". Then there are some who are still undergoing these bullets shot in the battlefield of humanity that is 400+ years old. All we, as individuals, can do is make sure that we fight for what's right in a productive and sensible manner...

In response to Reply # 0

is to be free of domination by any other group.

is self determination. You could argue that is the situation now, but I would argue that in America, your demographic status often limits your options in that self determination. The goal is to remove that demographic barrier, in order to allow full self determination. This applies to an individual as well as the community.

this would manifest itself in ways lik this.

- not needing to sue someone cause I can't advance in a company
- not needing to beg someone to put a library in my neighborhood
- not protesting to get my stories told in the history classes
- not fearing for my own safety in my dwelling, or in my neighborhood
- knowing that the authorities have my interests at heart
- not being considered an other, but one of a whole
- being able to move truly freely, and really do whatever I want, given my resources and abilities.

That is what I am striving for.

when you are SO American? (in ideals and values by what you've said on other posts, especially "okayplayer: sweatshop free")

You play the system...
the system plays you.

That's the nature of SOMEONE ELSE'S game.

Serious question, not a diss.

"Activism is the practice of using an internal, self-determining source of power to live one's life and/or enact some sort of change. Power is the ability to define reality, while self-determination is to decide or define one's self. Therefore activism, is not simply something done to right some wrong or to fight some cause but rather it is a way of life. Activism is the way of life where one can define self and change anything that may impede or control the reality that one chooses to live."-Solarus

no it is not just freedom it is really free-dumb
it is not equality, but respect for humanit period
i know for a fact that we have lost sight of what the ultimate goal is because when it is okay that a man gets shot 41 times because like Yunique sain "it can happen to anybody" or when it is simply accepted as a part of the reality that we live in then things are not okay
people have become complacent with their position in society and becaus ethey have elevated a lil bit in economic status
fuck dat!!!
(sorry for the curse words)
i get upset thinkin about it
we have to realize that because we are inundated with capitalism and materialism doesn't mean we have to fall victim

the question should be...
why just freedom? freedom is defined in many ways... all oppressed people are entiled to MUCH more than freedom... to say that I am JUST striving for freedom is an insult to my ancestors... Freedom is a birth right a given... I just know too many that havent been able to see beyond that goal...
its about having a plan as well

...to stand on the shoulders of my ancestors and take part in the liberties that they couldn't have, like that of living under my own control, the right to vote, the right to own land and property, and the right NOT to be treated as property and not to be discriminated upon. It is when this right is waivered when I choose to react in a way that ensures it won't happen again to me or anyone else. Taking it to another point, being a musician and studying jazz as my life's passion I choose not to involve myself with drugs, alcohol abuse and things of the sort because that's how my father's would want me to do it, since that was their downfall...going even further I wish to continue my education to the doctorate level to be the best that I can and be the north star that my ancestors looked up to when they thought of better times because that what I believe is best and that is what I think they would feel is right....isn't that what Dr. Martin Luther King fought for?

Oh, and by the way, I'm doin' alright. How're you? How's everything been? School ok? How are your endeavors in the English language and it's poetical expressions going? I hope all is well...

Im not really concerned with the way another group of people feel or think about what I do or do not deserve... or what thier disrespect will bring about

my purpose in reference to any struggle is to relaim and reconstruct the the land/ thrown that is rightfully mine(ours)... to exist in the mannerin which my ancestors did (in theory) and if I only concentrate on being respected I will never ever reach that goal

But I'm just saying that "rights" don't exist. Rights are only as good as what can back them up.

>my purpose in reference to any
>struggle is to relaim and
>reconstruct the the land/ thrown
>that is rightfully mine(ours)... to
>exist in the mannerin which
> my ancestors did (in
>theory) and if I only
>concentrate on being respected I
>will never ever reach that
>goal

What land is rightfully mine/ours? The concept of "rightfully" just isn't logical.

But you can take land by force, or the threat of force, and then run your society. If it worked for the Israeli's...

in the struggle that we forget the reason we're in the struggle to begin with!! Sometimes when you're in a fight for so long you throw blows because it's the only thing you know how to do, not because you want the fight to end. Let's not forget about the people who don't even realize that there is a struggle. They are the ones who we need to worry about.

My Moment of Truth: May 12, 2001, 9:00 AM, Greensboro Coliseum

**The Cha-Cha Slide---Why??
DISCLAIMER: I was wrong about this one. After going to a party and actually doing the Cha-Cha Slide, I realized that it was a lot of fun.

**Musiq is really Teddy Riley---The big glasses and the facial hair, yeah I know who you are.

**"I want his heart...I wanna eat his kids...All praise to Allah"---Okay, one of these statements does not belong.

**The hot tan crocheted Bisou Bisou sandals---Making their debut at a Spring Break near you.

Look over to your left...yeah, up in the corner. As a suggestion, you may want to take two.
