Can someone please explain to me why Black people are Christians? How can you be a religion that murdered and enslaved you? Christians robbed the Afrikan of her language, of her Gods, of her culture, of her human dignity. Christianity was forced on the Afrikan by the primitive white race, please explain to me how any person of Afrikan decent can honor this blasphemic religion.

why? i mean, for real, why?

Nuwb or "blackness" is supreme balance before the chaos was introduced. It was a state of sound, right reasoning. That darkness was triple darkness, which is what you would call the absence of consciousness, or the state of being awoke. In actuality, the dream state is more real and peaceful than the chaos you meet once you are awake. A form of spiritual darkness responsible for the spark that turned on the light that is the life and intellect of all who breathe and think.
When the light is turned on again, the chaos begins. The differentiation begins. The separation begins. The rights and the wrongs, the goodness and the badness; the supreme balance is broken and the ego begins to verse the "I."

no, i was saying "why" to why this post is up here. christianity is irrelevant as to why black people flock to it. it is peripheral to the real reason...but anyways, on a lighter note.

but the white jesus and the missionaries did bring civilization to the heathen nations that flourished in africa, had they not come, who knows where they'd be?

it is the people who took things into their own hands, let money, power, and their own supremacy corrupt themselves, and took for granted the fact that Christ died for their sins...

...i'm sick and tired of people saying that Christianity is responsible for slavery.

it is those that professed to be Christians (and didn't act as such) that are responsible for slavery.

truth is, it WAS religion that enslaved us. and this enslavement was MENTALLY. whether is is christianity, islam, buddism, or whatever, ALL religions enslave the mind. becuz nothing can be verified factually, and they keep u locked in a spell of BELIEVE instead of KNOWLEDGE. the truth is that on in ancient EGYPT (where all religions defected from) did one gain the true knowledge of THE ALL. there systeme was not belief, but knowledge...think.

actually a lot of the Egyptians teachings was based on beliefs no hardcore knowledge or facts. they were great scientists and were very knowledgable for the time but all religion is based on faith. you can use all the logic you want to back up your beliefs but you are basically walking blindly praying there will always be a ground under you.

to think that religion enslaves you is absurd. its supposed to give you direction and focus. the basic ground rules for healthy living. of course this does effect your mode of thinking but look so does music.

all that 5%er stuff is dead. supreme mathematics ain't gonna save you.

"Activism is the practice of using an internal, self-determining source of power to live one's life and/or enact some sort of change. Power is the ability to define reality, while self-determination is to decide or define one's self. Therefore activism, is not simply something done to right some wrong or to fight some cause but rather it is a way of life. Activism is the way of life where one can define self and change anything that may impede or control the reality that one chooses to live."-Solarus

Okay ummm...don't Black people practice the "bastardized" version of christianity? Why is the bible so important? You people can't really believe that those were actually the words of "GOD" ...the names are all fucked up, josh and Mathew-what the hell?

Religion is another form of control.

Sir, having conrol over another person's mind or body is never...NEVER a "good" thing.

White Devil's having "control" over the Afrikan's mind, body etc. is why the Afrikan is so fucked up now. That control is why thousands of Black-Afrikan Amerikans are christians, that's all they know, that's all they think is "right" that is what they were taught to believe and that is what they were forced to believe.

if you follow the laws of KMT or that of a traditional Afrikan spirituality system you are following a religion. With guildlines and structure that are designed to bring stability and structure not only to the individual but to the community.

In response to Reply # 61

Christianity is not a religion, it is a doctrine. How can it be a religion when it is devoid of spirituality?

How can it be a religion when it has been used to conquer and control and kill... all in the name of god?

How can it be a religion for Black people when Black people who are of African descent have their own spiritual traditions, but cannot seem to wash this bit of spiritual imperalism from their soul?

How can it be a religion when Europeans are disconnected from the Cosmos and have no understanding of what it is to be connected to Everything and Nothing at all?

I must agree with the original precept of this post. Christianity is nothing more and nothing less than a vehicle for European culture hegemony. It was given to Black people to pacify them with their enslavement.

Although I do think that Black churches serve an important function because it brings the community(ies) together, I feel that Christianity runs the risk of tearing it apart.

My two cents.

Peace,

is just that.

I mean, I feel like the author of this post definitely has a point (and that is part of the reason I am learning more about other religions/spiritual systems), but I feel like whatever gets you through the day and makes you a better person is all right by me.

I don't have to believe in it. But I can respect that you do.

In response to Reply # 18

Is understandable I once felt the same way as you. I made that same statement many times not to long ago, but it is not that simple. In truth Christianity is practiced because of over 500 years of conditioning to practice it. The way Christianity is practiced is because it was the way Afrikans were "forced" to practice it. But dig deeper than that, and look beyond what was forced and instituted in today's society. AME, Baptist, The Nation of the Nuwabian Moors, the Black Isrealites each practice Christianity in their way.
The stories in the Bible can be traced to KMT(Egypt).the ten commandments are founded on the principles of MAAT. Jesus's birth and the story of Osiris. The story of Caan and Able. These teachings spread and expanded over time throughout the region over centuries. The Hebrews pulled many of these same teachings into a text "the Bible" when they began to practice their religion. Abraham, the father of the Hebrews, was born in Ethiopia as well. The Pope is documented to pray to the Black, Afrikan, Madonna hell Eastern Orthodox Catholics do as well, they know the truth. Son, I can spit all kinds of stuff at you, but what I ask of you is to read it for yourself, and not just a
a chapter in "Stolen Legacy" or the "Isis Papers", I mean read more, and form your own opinion after that. I do not endorse Christianity on anyone but I do encourage you to read and form become an independent thinker.

Christ stems the Greek "Kristos" which means "The Anointed." This tradition stems from The KMTic (ancient Egyptian) "KRST" which also means "the anointed." It was a title referring to the resurrected savior Asar (Osiris). It literally was in referrence to the dead body that is anointed with oils in preparation for burial. But It took on a greater meaning a Asr was a representation of the indwelling spirit. As far as the Biblical Jesus goes, most of the gospels are direct derivatives from the Asarian Drama and tales of Asar's son, Heru.

So in a sense he WAS AFRIKAN.

Whether he was African or not, how is he used?

I mean, I adore a history lesson as much as anyone, but history don't mean shit if you don't bring it along with how it is used!

_Not_ to mention that Greeks used to go to Egypt all the time and learn from the KMT's... in fact, all this shit we are mired in today could be seen, in a sense, to be the result of an error made by Plato in trying to comprehend the KMT's teachings... substititing "or" for "and". A little mistake with HUGE consequences.

Everything points to Jesus being a Black man. From this you say, to what Dr. Francis Cress-Welsing writes. But the truth of the matter is that Jesus is not presented this way. When Europeans crusade in his name, the image they had in their heads is not an African Jesus. When they do "missions" in his name, the face they show people reflects theirs. This is yet another way (lie) they (white folks) have warped KMT's teachings and USE it to enslaved and bolster their own feelings of superiority and self-worth.

"If you Black, get back."

Not too say that Christianity does not have it's demons, however, I NEVER said Christianity was superior than another. It just happens to be the religion I practice.

You are mislead into believing that Christianity was not practiced in Africa, as another poster pointed out Ethiopia and The Coptic Church.

What do you think those Africans who practice ancestral religions, say about Islam? After all, Islam is not native to Africa either! Who do you think is getting targeted for the Slave trade in The Sudan?

Just something to think about............

there is a modern day holocaust going on down there. basically, the sudanese (sp) government, which is run by a regime of muslim/islam dictators, is killing/enslaving/terrorizing any citizens who are non-muslims. they are enslaving children and forcing teachings of the quaran on them. they are amputating the breasts of non-muslim women so they cannot feed their children. they are destroying churches, killing villagers, and this is only a very small amount of what this government is doing to the people of the sudan. funny how the news isn't covering it. must not be any oil to win out there.

even if every muslim in the entire world was doing this, it is not Islam or part of Islam.there is a diff. between Islam and a muslim.

all muslims dont practice like theyare supposed to, like all christians dont practice like they are supposed to.

Jugde the people by Islam, dont judge Islam by the people!

"Islam is not native to Africa either!"
correct. but when the prophet muhammad sent muslims to ethiopia, why did the king Negus accept Islam? was he forced by muslims who were seeking his protection in the first place? or did he realize the truth?

but what's that got to do with Islam. nothing at all. the post is about black christians not black muslims.

and the diff. here is:
african slaves got they asses whooped into christianity, and african americans today CHOOSE Islam regardless of what is giong on in the world. they know it is the truth. do you think all those soldiers who went to Saudi during the Gulf War accepted Islam as their way of life so saddam wouldnt kill them? if so why are they still muslim.

thank Allah, dont thank me.

p.s. and those africans that were muslim slaves, do you think they were forced into Islam too....(see kunta kinte in Roots, brah)

i don't know, everyone has to make their own choices......i'm no theologian.....

but, here's a thought:

would you be christian if european colonists "whipped" islam into black slaves?

your beef isn't with christianity......your issue is with white america.....

if it weren't for beef with the white man, half of the blacks flocking to the muslim way of life wouldn't be there......

being a strong christian myself, i don't see the power in islam.....i don't see the attraction to muhammad, the quaran, etc, other than it puts black men and women on a pedestal (ie. god's/earths).....it's more of an esteem thing than a spiritual thing.....if there is more, please enlighten me.........

And I suppose african americans can't CHOOSE christianity?

The point trying to be made is that you judge a religion by its teachings, not by its practitioners (just as you were saying). So if someone asks "how can african americans be christians", the response has been "why not?" (this doesn't ammount to an endorsement...just clarification).

There are plenty of "scientists" out there that aren't scientists at all...they are sensationalists trying to make a buck. Do I then, as a result, abandon science (and wonder how on earth anyone could EVER be a scientists)?

pick up any book/article on conflict in modern Africa...

one of the local papers here sent reporters there a few years ago to expose the slave trade there.

in addition to the Amnesty Intl. link someone put up, check out archives at cnn.com or the Baltimore Sun paper, or other national news sources. Most places have done something on the topic in the last five years or so.

also check http://www.allafrica.com for breaking news/developments.

but all of these items are written by non-muslims, who usually when reporting about anything in the islamic/muslim world report bias to their own beliefs. you testified to it yourself on another post. i believe it was "the princess and the marine". you know the media does not rep. the muslims right, because they have nothing to gain by doing so.

On the biased reporting of Westerners, however slavery in Sudan does exist. Westerners would liken it to a Muslim vs. Christian and/or Baggara vs Dinka issue but the real issue is Arab and Arab-descended Muslims enslaving the lowly "abd" (black) despite whether he/she is Muslim, Christian or my favorite Western perjorative "Animist." All blacks are nonhuman thus deservng of being enslaved.

as far as I've seen, the Muslim north has disenfranchised and tried to economically and otherwise destroy the Nubian South. Period.

Slavery exists in the Sudan. Period.

It can be good/bad, religious/secular, whatever. There are a million reasons for the "why," but the facts are there, regardless.

that was my only point.

Christ is not about destruction!! Don't blame God or Jesus for things that men have done. I agree that PEOPLE not Christ have caused many hardships, but Christ doesn't stand for that and you should know better for saying something like that. So called Christians take The Bible and try to fit it to their lives instead of altering themselves to the word of God. Christ is about love for your fellow men and if there isn't love, there isn't Christ. The question you should be asking is how can people call themselves Christians when they aren't about LOVE??

Peace

What I'm going to say now is that the anger in your words is the direct result of ignorance. First of all, yes I am black, but since you seem to be so into history lessons, how about we discuss the fact that christians did not invent slavery? How about we discuss the fact that slavery was practiced long before Christians arose? How about we discuss the fact that slavery was present in Africa between BLACK tribes long before christians visited the continent? How about we discuss the fact that some tribes were known to trade blacks to Europeans for personal gain during the time of "american slavery" which is all anyone ever seems to refer to as if their knowledge does not extend beyond our own country's short history. Religion does not enslave anyone. You believe what you chose to believe. According to others who have posted, ALL religions enslave because there is no fact behind them? The same thing exists in science except we refer to it as "theory" yet noone seems to question it. How many of you have ever seen an atom? An electron? But you do believe they exist correct? Your choice not to believe in Christianity (or even god for that matter) is in itself a belief. All things fall prey to corruption if not properly maintained. even your speech is corrupt. You seek justification for something which does not concern you because you absolve yourself from it, yet you constantly degrade it as if it needs your approval. Were you firm in your own belief and even lack thereof, then you would need no reassurance. you would be content with the knowledge you feel you possess above everyone else. But you're not, so this discussion is indeed pointless...

You accept the validity of the pictures on faith. You, as an individual have no concept of science other than what people tell you. I can create a picture of what should be "an atom" on photoshop and you'd never know the difference. Why? because you accept on FAITH. Meaning you believe the information that's been presented. Whether you like it or not, life is based on belief. Someone tells you something and either you choose to accept it or you don't. When was the last time YOU looked at an atom? When was the last time YOU took a picture of an atom? You haven't. You simply accpet what others have told you is "science."

Wow! I just got into it with some folks the other day over this same topic. Why (I asked)--with so many languages and cultures on this earth--would there be "ONE" and only one "TRUE" religion. Why is Christianity the bridge to the "sweet hereafter" for so many black folks? Why are Indigenous African Religions/Culture so threatning to Aframs/Africans alike? People choose to forget that Africans were doing their own thing long before they were beat over the head generation after generation with the likes of Ch...,Ca... and Is... . Total conversion comes about when you have convinced a people that EVERYTHING about them is backwards and wrong. Words like "Ugly", "Dirty", "Barbaric" and "Heathen" have all done a great disservice to the well-being of black people. So many institutions so little time...

Wassup AmeriKaan nUumber. I am a Roman Catholic myself, and I have learned that Christ was Aramaic, I think. So in His own earthly native tongue, His name was Yeshua or something like that. In English, this would be translated to Joshua. The name Jesus, I forgot, I'm sorry. I think it might mean the chosen one, but I might be thinking of "Christ" which someone already mentioned means "anointed".

I do believe (after attending a workshop for Catholic educators/ ministers by a priest of the Dominican Order) that Christian rituals and beliefs, in Roman Catholicism anyway, certainly do have roots in Egyptian culture. He said that Baptism, was an Egyptian "import", so to say, among other things. My belief is that because of this, Blacks, Africans, etc. equally share ownership of Christianity, regardless of what KKKristians say. So you have every right to reform the evils of this world to absolute truth, because Christ is alive and in YOU. And true Christians will be right by your side in helping quench the thirst for truth. Don't let the wolves in sheep's clothing claiming Christianity while acting as devils detract you friend.

Freedom and Peace,
Derrick

Here yo go again spouting only what makes you look good. if you review history, you can find a time where ANY race was in power above the others. You're killing your own argument. Once again, I am a black christian, but the point you're making is absurd, that everything was perfect before christianity? Then why did it decline? Assume for a moment that christianity was evil and did cause it (which I don't believe) but with that in mind, then it wasn't that perfect if the society was so easily uprooted then was it?

Because they feel the principles of the Bible are true and contain valuable relevence to thier spiritual needs/beleifs.

The religion had nothing to do with the murdering or enslaving of Africans. People who acted in ingnorance were to blame for enslaving my ancestors. They were not lead by the church or protestant movement to do what they unjustly did.

Christianity was not forced on Africans. If you remember we were brought here as slaves and to work. The white man could have cared less what religion we embraced. They wouldn't have forced the Bible on them if anything which embraces harmony among all people.

Who is Christianity blasphemic to? Have you completely dismissed the idea that once African were here and exposed to Christianity they made a chioce to take up the religion. Earlier you said that they were stripped of thier culture and what not. While agree with you on that you make it seem like that because they were taken from thier home they didn't get a chance to find a spirituality that was comfortable for them. Isn't that what matters most? I know black people that are Christians do not embrace the mistakes other people claiming to part of the religion have done, they embrace the teachings of it's scriptures and contentment it rbings thier spirit.

true...but over time, we have metamorphasized the faith in several ways to do just that. Check the practices of some independent African Christian churches, sects like the AME church and the Shrine of the Black Madonna (is that the right title?)

They were led by the church. Many many many reverends and church leaders pointed out passages to enforce the ideology and practice of slavery. Yes, there were many who did just the opposite, but you can't say that it didn't come from the mouths of Christian leaders of the time.

Oh they cared. If they didn't, then Africans would have been allowed to beat drums to communicate. They would not have had to hide their Gods behind Catholic saints. They would have learned to write down their religious tenets in the language of the New World. Shit like that. If you've read anything about the "black codes" or any other laws implemented around religious services and gatherings of slaves, then you would know this to be completely untrue. Slaveowners cared what religion they practiced. They cared a great deal.

It wasn't always a choice. They were (or at the very least pretended) to be Christian or they were punished.

yes, that is what matters, but if you look at the history of the Black church in America, there was always something missing from the ideals of "White" (for lack of a better term) Christianity that caused Black folk to form their own centers of worship and cultural expressions within those centers.

maybe u know all this and just didn't express it, but I just had to drop my two cents.

You can't be serious. Not only was it forced on African slaves, but the same could most certainly be said for African people on the continent herself (via missionaries, etc.). As soon as the boats docked, anxious "masters" went to work renaming African "slaves": Ezekiel, David, Martha--you know--straight from the good book. The ancestors were beat and tortured for speaking in their native tongue and often times killed for practicing "heathen" ceremonies or rituals--Murdered in the name of what was "right" and used as examples for those who dared to embrace their OWN culture...It is certainly understandable why black folks are so convinced today...That's all I have to say for now...

Look homey, I understand your angst.
It is just misdirected.
White supremacists don't practice Christianity.
Neither do Black Nationalists for that matter.
Christianity is probably the hardest religion to follow because it has been perverted by ALL.
The bottom line is that Christianity is a personal path that comes to you through prayer to GOD and an open, objective understanding of the bible combined with the greatest force on Earth, FAITH.

Youmight want to ask our Islamic brothers why they practice their religion. They enslaved Afrika first. Then you might want to ask practicers of religions indigenous to Afrika why they did not unite under one common idealogy hence leaving them open to the decimation and destruction of most of the continents social structure by the so called "Islamic and Christian" raiders

Like I said, you anger is understandable it is just not well thought out. The truth is always black and white and concrete, it is just usually not fully seen by our eyes.

Slavery was created in Africa. Africans enslaved Africans before Europeans, although African slavery was not as brutal as European slavery and African slavery offered slaves freedom through work, money, time etc.

The big three religons all had slavery Judaism, Islam and Christianity. Check out the life of Muhammad and Fatima - much violence, slavery and sexism.

Religion is all about faith, not a tic for tac - you did this now I will do that game. Remember, most religon was created by man, changed by man and used by man for man's sake.

Christianity, through man, used slavery just as the U.S. Constitution used slavery. But, slavery was defeated by Christianity and the U. S. Constitution.

You miss my point, although you can look up any reputable book about the history of Islam and see the violence that Muhammad and Fatima went through in their journey. I am just using their lives as an example. And yes, Christianity and Judaism have examples for violence, slavery and sexism too.

What I am saying is that you can not blame a religon, a belief system, for what men and women do.

I also do not believe you can say one religon or belief system is better than the other. It all comes down to the person or people within the religon.

I find it interesting that Islam is the only religon that excepts the validity of other religions as far as believing that good Christians can go to Paradise/Heaven. No other religion believs or preaches this.

Also, Islam never tried to "wipe out" other religons like Judaism and Christianity did. Muslims just taxed believers of other religons after they conquered them. Check out the Moors in Spain and Italy.

Attempt the Ascent, Free a Slave

Qur'an: Surah 90 Al-Balad (The City)
Nay, I swear by this city... We verily have created man in an atmosphere... But he hath not attempted the Ascent, Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! It is to free a slave, And to feed in the day of hunger, An orphan near of kin, Or some poor wretch in misery. And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity.

And THIS is Islaam.

The word "slave" in Islam does not mean the same thing as the American slave in years past. The word means more like servant, maid, fieldhand, or anyone who does not work for himself. One who relies on his/her employer for food, clothing, shelter, and/or protection. Allah Knows Best.

First of all u answered ur own question. simple becuz Black people could be Christians if they are robbed of their own culture etc etc. but thats true about all religions. becuz whether people realize it or not all religions are ALIEN to Black people!! and furthermore, i dont think its a Black issue. i think that ALL people no matter what their so-called race is accept religion for generally the same reasons...ignorance, faith, belief etc etc. its all boils down to the devil trying to keep us from knowing our own potential, and keeping us from realizing that WE ARE GODS!!! This is a great controversial issue.
Sometimes we hold these "beliefs," often very strongly as you can see, even though many of us don't have a good sufficient background knowledge and have been engaged in too little thought to be able to intelligently support our "beliefs." I think that it is important for all people to examine those "beliefs" that they hold so strongly, for consistency and believability. Often too many times our "beliefs" are grossly inaccurate or shallow, and tends to yield grossly inaccurate, inappropriate, or self-defeating conclusions.

I have been living in this world for almost nineteen years now, and my "beliefs" change, Beliefs are ignorant, once a person takes the time to acquire a good supply of background facts to improve there existing stock of beliefs, they will be able to began weeding those out that prove to be false, and maybe then we can consider expanding our minds and begin to except all people for their "beliefs" which I personally "believe" will bring unity among people, because right now all i see is "I'm a Christian im right, your something else your wrong" the fact is religion itself is nothing but a lot of "beliefs" past down.

I am a very spiritual person I know that there is a higher force (you can call it whatever u wish) that is the reason why we breathe, why we die, why we pray or meditate, have faith, etc., without a "said" religion I am free to experience my GOD in so many ways.
One "belief" i do have though, is that "GOD" is apart of every living organism, I know that when we kill something or someone that we are killing apart of "GOD"

God created everything that exists. but dont mean he's a part of it. if thats the case, then no more african americans should complain anymore about slavery being forced on our ancestors, b/c "a part of God" dwelled in those indivs.and that would mean that it was realy God who enslaved us. Right?

Wrong. THe spirit of God, the essence of God, nothing of God dwells in any of us. period. point blank.

we are the creation, he is The Creator. God sits on his throne far away from this madness, and yet still sees and hears everything we say.

the only thing that dwells inside of us, is our soul. and one day, we all got to give it up. and give it back to The One who created it in the first place.

Ummmm...if "God" is the TRUE beginning...if "God" created EVERYTHING...then is not "God" responsible for evil as well (or the devil that you ascribe that evil to)?

God...this sounds like metaphysics101.

he created the devil, and allows hinm to tempt us in all ways.

in other words, he allows the evil to take, man just falls into the trap that Evil sets.

and contrary to popular belief, the only power the devil has is the power of suggestion.

think about it.

think about every evil thing that you might have done, it was a thought first, right? then either you overpowered the thought and moved on to something else, or you succumbed to the thought and fell prey to the devil and his whisperings.

true....God created us with the freedom of choice.....if we were not free to choose, could He really say that we loved Him? that's why there is "evil"....anything that is against the will of God is "evil".....that's life's struggle.....God or evil.....

I was going to drop some TRUTH on the faulty foundations of Christianity but the tone of this thread has turned for the worst. The TRUTH would automatically be rejected in defense of already hurt feelings.

Therefore I recommend everyone take a look at "OkayBlackourstorymonth" for a review on relevant topics under "Significance of the African Priesthood."

Are we all Common fans on this board? Everyone just needs to cool out and listen to Common's "G.O.D. (Gaining One's Definition)" on one day it'll all make sense. It ain't about the religion - it's about having the spirituality brought by God, or Allah, or Jah, - the knowledge of "a being that's supreme to you."

well, some would say that there are universal concepts in most, if not all, religious systems (i.e. the golden rule, tenets similar to the ten commandments, the morals of certain parables/myths, etc). would you agree or disagree? and if you agree, if one person were to adhere to those universal rules, would they really be "wrong"? Just something to think about.

What are you basing this on? What is wrong, for example, with the idea that there are many truths, but one God. i.e, One Being created the Universe, but because we as people were given free will/evolved in different climates/etc, we all interpreted the truth of this Creator in different ways. So while some may call Buddha, some Allah, and some Jehovah, we are all really appealing to the same benevolent force.

well, i do believe that there are some truths that are basically universal. i mean, people are basically the same and in every culture there is a longing for a supreme being. God speaks to us all, regardless to what we believe. adhering to these truths is not wrong at all. however, some folk pick and choose what they want to believe based on what they are willing and not willing to give up. i think that in itself is not so much wrong as it is a cop out of living a true spiritual life.

as for your second point, i'm a christian. the bible teaches that, like you said, there is only one God. however, allah, buddah, and jehovah are three different concepts!!! you can't call the God of abraham, buddah. buddah is not who God is. buddists do not believe in christ. christ is part of the God head. allah is not God. muslims do not acknowledge Jesus as the christ. my christian ideals will not allow me to fathom faith without christ. as far as being from different cultures, that is what the great commission is all about. every person who claims to be a child of the one true God and saved by His son, Jesus, was born to tell others about who God is. so, in india where hinduism is strong, we as christians are charged to go there and introduce them to christianity. then, it is there will to except or not to except. that's where free will comes into play; not in interpreting who God is.

non-denominational churches are the churches of the new millenium. i belong to one. a good non-denominational church put it's emphasis back on God's word, and takes emphasis off clothing, rituals, and old moves of God. that's why so many people leave the church, because people get caught up in rituals and how their parents worshiped God. God may not change His commandments/principles, but how He enforces them can, will, and, as a matter of fact, is!!!! for example, God is going to invade hip hop music. the youth ministry at my church actually has rap ciphers on sundays! the church is going to get back into the community, too. Jesus didn't kick it in the suburbs! He had lunch with lepors and prostitutes, so that He could reach people who were lost. the church is about to get back on that. for real. time's short, ya'll. sorry to go on like that. peace, b.

Do you even understand the concept of belief? Whether you realize it, the statement you made is a belief. Quite a paradox we create for ourselves when we attempt to justify ignorance with ignorance. bottom line is this, you don't understand what others feel, they have something you don't and you're on the outside looking in. Deal with it, because until you come to realize that there's more to the world than you choose to accept, you'll always be ignorant. And that's the truth.

123. "Ignorance..."
In response to Reply # 121

Hey,

Let's not be offended brother BooDah. Ignorance is just the lack of knowledge, or education of a particular set (or sets) of arenas. I venture to say that none of the beings who post to this board are omniscient. By default, we're all ignorant some way or the other. Now, if the statement was intended to offend, what does that say about the initiator? I suppose it means he's ignorant to ignorance. (*whew!*)

If I were to state that belief was ignorance, here is the sequence of logic I'd use to build that statement. I would have to start with two statements:

"I believe 1+1=2".
"I know 1+1=2".

Only one of the previous statements require a mastery of addition. The latter. To state "I believe 1+1=2" could mean that you've heard it mentioned that way before, or you hypothesize that the statement is true, etc.... To state "I know 1+1=2" means that you have gone through the process of addition and reached that conclusion.

To put simply, knowledge is reached through some system of tests and or rules/procedures. Belief can just be reached (i.e. "I believe Apollo drags the sun around the earth on his chariot"). If one is forced to believe about a particular thing, he doesn't know. And, as we've already stated, not knowing set A is equivalent to being ignorant of set A. Now we have:

*Belief => not knowing
not knowing = ignorance

Hence (by the transitive property)

Belief => Ignorance.

I feel like I should write a proof for the new theorem I'm developing.

Peace

eyezed

*note that "=>" and "=" are not equivalent statements.

i agree that about much, ALL of us are ignorant. so to that extent my brother's comment is true. inferentially, if it was a "me/we vs. y'all" thing, which it may or may not have been, it was a little off (as you stated).

It was a reaction to the specific post that I was responding to, i.e. the person who said movies don't lie.

It wasn't meant as a comment about EVERYONE. Not even the poster but moreso the comment.

Example Scenario:
A Black person (in person) says something completely ridiculous and I respond " Black folks is dumb as hell." Am I making a sweeping generalization? No. Considering that I am Black and KNOW I'm not dumb, this comment is more of a specific reaction to a specific person to a specific comment.

Christianty didn't cause slavery.

ignorance did.

to think there would be no black christians without slavery is straight foolish.

yeah everything you said is right but I don't think its about being Christian. I mean I'm christian and yes I have alot of disagreements with the church but I'm not their for the title nor the people in the institution. I am what I am because I believe in spirit, love, and life so that has me to believe in GOD and I believe in what he is capable of and his word. I have wavered all other faiths but it drove me back to this because life for me was only beautiful when I was where I am. So to say black people are crazy for being christians because the people enslaved us with it is not true. Because, if thats the case than people are crazy for beliveing in evolution. Evolution is nothing but the other races word them playing GOD writing their own bibles just giving it another title. Does encyclopedias sound right?

I feel that this is a very important discussion. I am baptized as a Christian but lately I have taken it upon myself to study other religions...Islam...Buddhism...etc. I feel that Christianity itself is not bad...its just that so many so-called Christians of the past and present manipulated the teachings for their own gain and not the gain of GOD. I read that the best theologian is the one that never talks about GOD because once you think you have an understanding of what you think GOD is--you become trapped by that thought. GOD transcends everything!! What can we possibly call GOD???? Let me know what you think. By the way, does anyone know any good books that explores traditional african religions? Thanks...PEACE...

ok... i'm new here and i have been reading most of these posts.it's pretty on-point from what i have seen. but i just wanted to drop my 2 cents here. religion is the strongest form of control over the human masses. billions of people have died for their god at one or more times in the history of the world. but it's really just the the heads of the organized religion in question that is behind all the bullshit."go save people that pray to the "devil" if they don't follow the "true way to live than kill them" Think about it the only thing organized religion gives you is a feeling of not being alone in the world, that someone or something that watchs you and that your in "good hands". but if you don't follow the rules that the true "gd" has given you than YOU BURN IN HELL FOREVER. now that's some control. people die in wars because if they die in the blesses of your god then if you die you will live on with everyone you have loved in a place of bliss. that's a pretty shady story if i ever heard one. Now if everyone said F*ck organized religion and just live with good moral's and an open mind about new or odd things. maybe even think about the whole karma idea maybe "i" think we would be alittle better off. people that control themselfs are people truey free from all outside master's.

sinless/or more
that's the real question

Now if everyone said
>F*ck organized religion and just
>live with good moral's and
>an open mind about new
>or odd things.

Thats the equivalent to saying: "If everyone said f*ck organized law and just did what was right then there wouldnt be any need for police" The thing is, is that what is "right" is subjective. What may excuse the conscience of one may accuse the conscience of another. There have to be standards set for what is right by a higher power. Humans have been trying to govern themselves for centuries. That was the conflict in the garden of Eden. Satan proposed the idea that man only obeyed God because they had been given no other choice. So God has allowed men to be free moral agents ever since, and we see what the result has been. We kill each other without reservation, millons starve, while others stockpile. Humans said "f*uck organized religion" a long time ago. Most of the organized religion nowadays is a preversion of the original article. All those wars and enslavements would have taken place any way, just under a different banner.

now, :'( later....

as stated and ignored before (even after reading these posts) i'm still not convinced that this wasn't thrown out in an attempt do do nothing but start drama

like throwing a flame on an anthill.

to me this is tantamount to asking members of OTHER faiths the question: how can you follow a God who ALLOWS people to be persecuted, abused, etc?

or asking a child: how can you love a parent after they punish you?

or asking a student: how come you still go to school after you've failed a test?

or a parent: how can you love your child after they disobey you?

or a message board moderator: how can you keep on doing it without pay when the people you volunteer to help ignore/disrespect you?

in every case it takes a certain amount of maturity within responder to seperate the concept from extranous circumstances.

in the case of faith, some people are able to seperate the evil of humankind from the perfection (and example) of the holy.

i'm amazed at the fact that this discussion has been entertained to this degree.

y'all will discuss what you want, and i don't have a problem with that, but i sincerely wish you all would understand that polarized discussion rarely leads to any form of education, understanding, or even real satisfaction (beyond that which comes from "saying what you gotta say").

As moderator it is my hope that we would use this board to COMMUNICATE, learn and grow -- as well as make change through doing, but sadly too many would rather discourse than do.

such is life.

right now we have a book drive going. have you donated? have you even peeped the post? if that isn't your bag, what HAVE you brought to the table besides hot air. this isn't to disrepsect the value of activism through dialog, but truth be told how many of us want this to be a message board that's noting more than a sundae with tons of whipped cream and sparkles, but no ice cream (hopefully that analogy isn't too far out for y'all)?

are you the sound or the noise? do you only RESPOND to the sound, or the noise?

(those are rhetorical questions)

call it elitist or whatever if you like, but THIS board is supposed to be about something better than the same old bull that you can find on countless internet message boards. how about we all make a concerted effort to help it be just that?

stay blessed

your ever-observant friendly neighborhood moderator.

I don't even come to THIS board anymore because of the simple fact that it is turning into a "political and cultural General Board" where people just start MORE BEEF.
I act.

"Apathy is a solution.
It's easier to lose yourself in drugs than to cope with life.
It's easier to steal what you want than it is to earn it.
It's easier to beat a child than it is to raise it. Hell,... Love costs, it takes effort and work."- from "Seven" (M. Freeman)

it is what it is. fundamentally, it's a message board, and by default it's purpose is communication.

additionally, part of the thought was that this could be a board where more "serious" (however loosely defined that might be) topics could marinate a while longer.

but again, if the discussions lead to nothing more than me vs. you, then what's the point? we all know there are folk out there who disagree with us, and it's fine to bring the viewpoints here for some sort of discourse.

but it's really getting hard to seperate the signal from the static.

an opinion without reason, or a comment without communication is pointless and just noise (be it audible or digital).

am i the only one who sees this, and would rather CHANGE it, rather than just avoid/leave the board altogether?

how we gonna change whatever ails is if we're sick ourselves?
