"America the Bully"

US plane destroys chairlift in Italy, killing skiers.

Embassy destroyed in Belgrade, killing journalists and others.

Iraqi planes shot down while in Iraq.

US soldiers rape and beat teenage girls in Okinawa.

Submarine sinks Japanese fishing boat, kills students.

US spy plane collides with Chinese fighter while spying on China and Bush blames China.

The US continues occupies foreign soil with it's military (Guantanamo, Germany, Okinawa, South Korea, etc.) and shows complete disregard for national sovereignty.

One day, all those we have picked on will stand up and fight back. It is time for the US to trully become a peaceful nation, not just talk about it. But, Baby Bush seems to be looking for a war, maybe to boost his sagging popularity.

What do y'all think?

JMello

"Those of us who spent time in the agricultural sector and in the heartland, we understand how unfair the death penalty is - the death tax is."

"Si, I'm very concerned about the amount of acreage in cultivation for the growth of cocoa leaves."

"...it's about past 7 here, so we're actually in different timelines."

"I am mindful not only of preserving executive powers for myself, but my predecessors, as well. And that's why I made the decision."

"I'm about to name my brother the ambassador to Chad."

"They don't seem to be flocking in right now, but it is dove season in Texas. I'm a hunter and if I decide to shoot some dove, I'll shoot 'em and eat 'em."

I think you should pack your bags and catch the next flight to Europe. Maybe then you will be with people who share your anti-American views.

that holding people and governments responsible for their actions is anti-American? Our groups are doing things that are wrong with few repercussions. Are we, as Americans, above decency?

Eff the laws. We are the most powerful nation on Earth. We MAKE the effin' laws. In effect America owns the World. If they say that it right rape Japanese girls and kill Italian skiers, guess what....

I completely agree. They talk about so-called rogue nations and nations of concern - America is the largest one. We go around the world getting involved, playing big brother, when we should be watching ourselves. The worldwide anti-American sentiment is justifiable because of what this country does (or does not) stand for. The media brainwashes us into believing that we are free. THe news covers up so much and consistently lies to us. Watch news from around the world, you'll see the difference. -babygirl

>I think you should pack your

Good grief... I thought we'd heard the last of this sentiment, but just the other day, I saw an actual "America: Love it or leave it" bumper sticker.

We are free to find fault with our own government. The country was founded on the principle (at least on paper). I don't see why this necessarily translates into hatred of one's country. But if you don't like it, you could put your money where your mouth is, and catch the next plane/boat/vehicle yourself.

>We are free to find fault
>with our own government.

right on. Somebody said "Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the government when it deserves it." That seems pretty reasonable to me. It's not you, not me, not your next door neighbor who's responsible for raping girls in Okinawa or destroying Italian ski lifts, it's the government's cold-war era policies and the mistakes and immorality of isolated individuals.

In other words, if the gov't didn't still think we needed to be spying on China, that bs the other day wouldn't have happened and we wouldn't be in this idiot situation...

But the hard part is, it's a democracy (well, pretty close), and what the government does is our fault. Our collective fault, true, but we all need to be working towards some big changes, or else this shit's gonna just keep happening.

later,

n valvo

WAIT!!!
Don't go anywhere. I hate this place too. But on the real it didn't sound like his/her views were anti-american, but they wanted America to be a better place. I on the other hand believe that since this country was built on war and opression...well let me put it in simple mathematical terms. 360 degrees the Universe revolves. AMERICA where people work all their lives slavin 4 dough, then when they get old and are about to move on, they finally realize it wasn't about the dough.
A place where so much emphasis is put on the accumulation of money, that children are forced to grow up fast and never get a chance to be a kid. Then their parents (members of the NRA and the Hunters club) are screaming WHYYYY!!? Why did my child take MY gun out of MY Closet and cap all his classmates and teachers?!
WHYYYYY!!!

the real truth is America can do whatever the fuck it wants, I am living in Japan now, the submarine incident is still big news over here, while it is off the news in the states now. Imagine if the role were switched in many of these incidents, we probably would be at war (unless those things happen to Americans of color (hyphenated Americans as I like to call us), then we won't care. I hate it when Asian, Blk, and latino americans act the fool in other countries too, we do not need to stoop down to the levels of our colonizers when we are abroad. At times, I am not proud at all to be American, I am a minority and I blend in where I live now, usually I just keep quiet and blend even when other Americans are around. with some of the recent actions by our gov't, I am pretty close to fronting and say I'm from Toronto or Vancouver, which enrage many of my Canadian freinds...............peace.....p

US pilot makes a grievous error...

The Captain of that submarine surely meant to wreck that ship.....(yeah right.

Iraqi pilots were surely just innocently flying around...

and, oh, a spy plane hits a supersonic jet and not the other way around.

It seems to me that you are applying facts to fit your vision of the world...instead of adjusting your vision to include the facts.

Just because some of the listed examples weren't
the best, doesn't mean that America does not act
like a bully.

How about the bombing of the Chinese embassy or
the bombing of the pharmaceutical plant in Sudan.
Or sanctions on Cuba, or backing anti-democratic right-wing
groups in central and Latin America, or sabatoging
democratic efforts in many Africa countries soon after
colonial independence. The list goes on and on. Now that we've gotten the typical reactionary response, provided by you, out of
the way, we can start talking about the consequences of our
bullying tactics. The US reaps what it sows. When violence is so oftenly resorted to as the answer by our government overseas, is it any wonder that the American people resort to it so much domestically? Rome fell, Britain fell, and eventually so will the US.

ps
A little something for you to think about:
I remeber reading in the paper during the first week that Bush was in office about how his administration is going to be much tougher on China. In fact Bush's plan was to shun away from China and embrace Japan and Taiwan even more so in terms of foreign policy. Go back and read the papers (I've been watching this closely for some time) and tell me if you still think the US wasn't being agressive in this recent incident with China and trying to instigate something.

have felt that they have a god given role as teacher in the classroom of the world, a self appointed big brother and this is never more evident than in the present bully boy...we are omnipotent..stance taken by your current adminstration.I was actually discussing the spy plane thing on my way to work this morning and we came to the conclusion that if an iraqi spy plane was forced to make an emergency landing in upstate Kentucky (for example) that
(a)The crew of such a plane would immediately be given access to a delegation from an Iraqi embassy.
(b)There would be no busmans holiday for every spook and fed to that infamous cornfield and certainly, even if they came to look they would never board the plane to see
1 what kind of information they were gathering
2 what kind of equipment they had developed
well cause that plain wouldn't be manners would it??
(c)They would be immediately be returned home with no hysteria whatsoever

This will just be the beginning of the litany of disasters that i can see haunting the bush "administration"......Nostradamus did predict that at the turn of the new century the "village idiot" would come to power in the west, guess that's another one he can be proud of.......don't get mad but think about it...you all know its true!

Now this is 1 interesting subject that i want to discuss.
First of all, i got to say this shit so you can understand what i am trying to say.
My name is Emil(islamic religion-white-european-even with the blue eyes and hair), and i am from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina ( remember that Balkan wars in the past 10 years). It is all over with the war here now, they say. Amerikanos are saying that is all over. You know i have survived that war, 5 fucking years under the big fucking siege, wounded by the 7.62mm sniper shot by the man who wanted to kill me because i do not think like him.
They say the war is over , american soldiers are here.
Yes the war is over, but it is the beggining of slavery.
So every thing you read, listen and watch about those incidents is wrong. You will never know what is the real truth. Enjoy in the big lies of big daddys and in the atomic age. There is not such thing as peace.

so just b/c the u.s. said that the plane was international air space, is that supposed to be proof that the plane was?
NO!
and just b/c i said what i said, is that supposed to be proof that sats. and gps knew were the plane was when the incident happened.
NO!

i just means that they "said", just like china "said".

you really DO believe everything you hear!

either could be lying, cause they both have reasons:
u.s.: they could have been in chinas air space trying to spy, and got they asses caught-a reason to lie, and say "we were in international air space."!

china: they dont want taiwan to have u.s. arms, incl. sea ships, so they take advantage of a golden opp. to prevent the u.s. from doing so-a reason to lie, and say "you were in chinas air space."!

btw: if you didnt know, the sats are in orbit, and that means that they orbit the earth, and that means that they may or may not have been in the position to "see" where the plane was at the time of the incident!

now ya know!

Check out the Wash Post or Times today. The EP-3 had a missing nose cone. How could that happen unless it hit the fighter? And why would the fighter strike a larger plane that obviously caused enough damage to kill the pilot?

Facts are wrong here cuz. The EP-3 has a missing nose cone, last I checked any front end damage would allude to the fault of that particular vehicle.

Really, Bush is digging his own grave on the China thing. Politically, bombing darker-skinned nations won't hurt Bush's popularity--the people who support him like to see the military's shiny new weapons in action, so long as we're killing "lesser" people.

But what Bush is doing right now will FUCK up the core of his support in the Midwest. He could have ended this thing as soon as it started by apologizing quickly and quietly. The media wouldn't have cared, and it would have gotten our servicemen home. Now, however, he's backed himself into a catch 22. China is not going to relent in their demands--why should they? So Bush has to either bite the bullet and appear weak by apologizing, or he leaves 20-some kids as hostages in a foreign country. Either way, he appears incompetent in foreign policy and insensitive to real human needs. It becomes obvious he doesn't care about "real people," or he'd get them back. It's equally obvious he's dangerously incompetent in foreign affairs, because why would he pick a battle he can't win?

Str8 up. I'm glad someone realized this. Americans love to feel sorry when a "dusky" race of people get mowed down by a AK47 or
CNN shows pics of Rwandians hacked to pieces. It gives them license to say "See, these people cant even govern them selves. Looks like we gotta go in there and kill a few of em."

I disagree with you there. We COULD wipe China off the face of the Earth, but the aftermath would be hell to pay. They also have allies that would wage war with US, and it would send thousands of young boys to their death....

Since when are the Chinese darker skinned than Americans who include Arabs, Blacks, Greeks, Latinos, Cambodians, Vietnamese, Native-Americans and other ethnic groups. Chinese aren't even darker than English-Americans? That's just a misnomer. Maybe you should've said "non-white majority" nations.

I use the term sarcastically, but also as a comment on how white Americans view the world. Fact is, white Americans think of themselves as light-skinned, and anyone else as dark skinned. If you want a technical definition of hickthink, you would probably argue that Asians, being "yellow," are darker than whites.

So now you have a consistent definition of American ignorance. There you go.

So who is gonna KEEP the peace? Either the US is gonna seclude itself from World Affairs (like we tried to do during the World Wars) and let everybody else toughen it out. Or, we can be active in helping to create peace. If we are gonna keep the peace we need more than one place from which to do it from. I can't knock you for questioning our manners in which we do so, but don't say we should abandon international affairs because history has told us that by doing that, peace doesn't come.

Who's to say we starte the fighting in those particular countries in the first place?

Iraq= They attacked a neighboring country in order to gain a foothold in the Oil industry.

Somalia= I forgot why in the first place, but, how good is a country if it is run by warlords?

Haiti= Military dictatorship prevented a democratically elected president from taking office. Or are you referring to Poppa and Baby Doc?

Sudan= Hey, are you FOR slavery? Religious persecution?

Afghan= I know nuthin about that

Serbia= People were being persecuted by who? Americans? Or by former countrymen who believe in "ethnic cleansing"?

My point is that the US firmly believes tht it has a major role in world affairs because it is the ONLY "superpower". No other country has the wealth nor the military resources to handle as many issues as we can. Granted, we must be careful in placing AMERICAN values on other countries which I find to be wrong. However, it is dead wrong for this country to have all these resources and NOT do anything to stop violent conflicts around the world.

Got me?

Funny how you ignored all the conflicts in central and south america that the US CREATED, or the CIA overthrow of a democratically elected president in Iran in order to put in the pro-US Shah.

Face it. The US never has and never will be about "keeping the peace". The only thing the US is interested in is keeping it's money safe. That is- keeping its PIECE and trying to take everyone else's. Try digging a little deeper next time you decide to praise the US as being the watchdog of the world.

Never once did I say that the US was doing a great job. I pointed out that the job was needed to be done and that the US was the only nation that had the ability to do so. Peep my words when I said that the US has to mindful of HOW it handles it's peace keeping missions. As for the problems south of the border, you're right the US did have a play in creating the turbulence that afflicts our neighbors.

Whas YOUR plan to solve those problems?

My point is that the job was not needed to be done. Most the major problems that are occurring in the world today are a result of American/western policies, directly, indirectly, present, and past. The US didn't have "a play in creating the turbulence that afflicts our neighbors", the US created the turbulence itself.

>Whas YOUR plan to solve those
>problems?

For the most part, stay out of other countries' affairs. We wouldn't have most of the problems in the first place if we just minded our own business.

I definitely agree that fighting fascism is one instance where the US should get involved militarily. But I hope you don't think this is the reason the US got involved in WWII do you?

Never said that. We didn't start the fighting, but we sure don't stop it and we often worsen it (Vietnam, the Balkans). We waste lives and resources for no reason.

And we attacked them to maintain ours, although we claimed we were trying to free the people of Kuwait (even thought they are a dictatorship) and topple Saddam. Now we are starving the Iraqi people with sanctions and bombing them for flying planes in their own skies. And the rest of the world, whom we claim to be protecting, is criticizing us for it.

But that's not why we bombed that pharmaceutical plant. It was because of the questionable allegation that it was being used for terrorist activities by Osama Bin Laden. Either way, we bombed a sovereign nation who hadn't done shit to us.

Like I said before, the foreign policy of the US needs to be changed. Now, another part of your comment I have to ponder because you seem to criticize the way ANOTHER nation is run. You call out the Kuwaiti government for being what it is. That signals to me an American value that should NOT be placed on another government's citizens. Why? Easily because it is not OUR job to tell folks how their government should be operated.

Is it our jobs to make things better or to just instill peace? Should we go into a country like Andersen Consulting does companies and tell them how to run shit? or should we let THE PEOPLE there in that country do it themselves? I prefer that "Okay, we stopped most of the violence! Can y'all talk this shit out now?" aspect of the US Foreign policy.

As far Bin Laden is concerned, I SERIOUSLY doubt he's gonna think twice about what color of Americans he's gonna terrorize the next time. Also, don't forget that he's a man and not a sovereign nation. The reason being that he operates from several nations randomly or whatever, so anything affiliated with him is a target. Not because the nation did something against the US, but because HE did something against the US from that particular nation.

I stand by my rationale, likewise, the US shouldn't attack nations though individuals.

man, fuck that. if you even knew the level of interference the us gov has in my home, you would spit up a lung. I'ma put it to you like this. back in the 60's Papa Doc took revolutionary students in Haiti and turned them over to the US to fill his quota of "communists" to be sent over. When the US went back to put Arisitide back in power, don't you think there was a price? If you look at the man before and after the coup, you can tell he sold his soul to America for power in Haiti, and consequently, he's in their pocket, and acting like the perfect puppet too. he and his Lavalas party are up to the same old tricks the other bad guys used, intimidation, vote tampering, the whole nine.

if there was some american terrorist blowin chinese embassies up in africa, and they traced it back to a DuPont plant in east bumblefuck, illinois, and it just so happened that your family depended on that factory, on sovereign US soil mind you, for income, i think the situation and your feelings about indiscriminate bombing agaisnt possible links to terrorist cells would be different

if you have any sense, and i know you do, you would realize American peacekeeping = protecting American interests

rememeber the oil scene in 3 kings? the gulf war was about oil and testing new weapons(stealth fighter), not Kuwaiti independence

Killing of the skiers (accidental, no malitious intent here, we are not at odds with skiers)

Bombing Embassy (Would you have your people at an embassy when their is a war going on outside)

Plane Crash while spying (Chinese planes have been known to be flying very close to these planes recently anyway sometimes as close as 50 ft, it was gonna happen sooner or later, plane was flying in international airspace)

Foreign military bases (key for strategic positioning, if all we do is stay home in US territory we'll be the last to know about potential problems, easier access to enemies)

Rape of the Japanesse girl (terrible, punishment should be very severe)
