-The Knicksā€™ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Our next 6 games, we could realistically go 4-2 and be at .500

Add in that we will have a healthy Baron Davis, we have Bibby (who along with T-Dougie could be traded for a serviceable backup big man)...

If we stay healthy, only squads that pose a problem for us in the East is Miami and Chicago, because we have the same caliber or better weapons than D'Antoni's Phoenix squad had AND we play better D. We have a playoff type closer in Melo. What's not to like about this? Lin will probably settle in at 15-16 points a game and 7-8 dimes, and everybody else will get theirs...and we will continue to win.

a lot of his points have been b.c there are literally no other 1st offense options on our team right now. It's why he's taking 20 shots a game.

I think his scoring will dip a little more, but it'll fine.

AND like you said, if we stay playing defense like this...sky's the limit.

so instead of the 8-24 lines, we'll see 5-11, 7-13 type nights with him getting to the foul line 5-6 times.

My other concern is how D'Antoni manages Novak's minutes, because with Melo back, he's got to figure out a way to get Novak 20 minutes a game, because he's our sniper.

Other than that, I'm pleased.

hot.

you can also keep melo, amare and chandler in the 35min range. That leaves 40 mins to split between jj and novak. If you need defense than you got jj, if you need offense you've got novacek.

i said a while ago, that novacek needed some tick to open up the floor.

28. "But whats a better shot than a layup"
In response to Reply # 17

I think one of the reasons Ive been so excited seeing his progress is because he's basically just making layups. Its not like he's throwing up miracle 360 windmill flip ups, and making mad jumpers which would be less telling. He's getting to the hole and finishing layups or getting fouled. Even against the Wolves, most of his misses were layups and those seemed to be because he was tired and had no lift.

Theres not 60 shots to go around for Melo, Lin, and Stat every night.
The important thing is the ball keeps moving and everyone buys into the system (which I think they will). The ball has to keep moving. If you watch the last 5 knicks games, nobody is holding the ball more than 5 seconds other than Lin cause he's the pg, and thats typically only happening when he's trying to get a last shot. He catches it and goes.

A lot of talk has gone around Amare and Melo on offense. I really amexcited to see that machine in motion...it could be Phx Suns offense 2.0. 2 bigs running a stack pick and roll with different options, a dominant wing left 1 on 1 for a kick out--not just to shoot, but then has his man in an iso to take to the hole with no help. They have to add wrinkles to the basic pick n roll its all there.

The 2 biggest concerns to me are

1) How will Amare and Melo play on defense. The bench mob has been swarming on defense. Will these guys bring the same effort on D? Because if they do they have the potential and athleticism to be better defenders.

2) How will they keep the bench energized and in the mix while still giving stars their minutes? These guys have been really hype cause they know theyll play and have a leash..how can Pringles keep that good feeling going for them

If all that works they will be tough to beat

I think they'll be fine, we we're holding teams to under 100 all season long, we just couldn't score. If we can get to score up to 100, we'll win a lot of games.

Bench should be energized cause we winning. Shump, JJ, and Novak need to see minutes. Bill W needs to find himself next to Toney Douglas.

I think we might be fine finally with the bench too. not to mention what happens if we do pick up JR Smith.

In response to Reply # 35

they are just not good team defenders.

That being said, the team d was good when they were playing before so i think it still will be.

walker has sucked like subj said and can go back to the bench no prob.

JJ gives 100% all the time, so his effort will be there..if he can continue to actually score and hit his open jumpers than you can play him more to spell amare. I think novak time will dictated by matchups. He can't play 20 min if he has to actually guard someone, unless he's on fire.

Shump can be a real good 2/3.

He doesnt have that jumper that is FIYA when JR is hot, but I dont know if the risk is worth the reward.

WTF are you even talking about? He's only started 4 games, I've seen 2, I'm referring specifically to the extra steps he takes that are obvious travel calls but they let him get away with.

Anyhow

The Economics of Jeremy Lin Could Translate into $150 Million by 2012-13 Season
NEW YORK, NY - FEBRUARY 10: Jeremy Lin #17 of...

Image by Getty Images via @daylife

For those that can’t get enough on the business repercussions of Jeremy Lin, please read these Forbes pieces authored by my colleagues Chris Smith (regarding Lin’s impact on ticket prices on the secondary market) and Mike Ozanian (regarding the conflict between Time Warner and MSG Network).

===

Jeremy Lin, Harvard alum and NY Knicks point guard, has become an overnight sensation in New York and around the NBA with his unanticipated stellar play over his last 5 games.

And people are taking notice, especially in the Far East as Mr. Lin is the 1st U.S. born NBA player of Chinese or Taiwanese descent.

Examples:

- Lin’s Twitter following has risen from 82,000 to over 210,000 in just over 1 week;

- Lin’s followers on Chinese website Weibo went from 190K to 384K+ in 1 week;

- Extra Knicks games have been added to Asian TV partners’ broadcast schedule. For example, Sina (China) added the Friday night Lakers game where Lin dropped 38 points. Elta (Taiwan) added 3 upcoming games this week. Additionally, ESPN Star Sports Taiwan has added forthcoming games…as has ESPN Philippines.

So what are the economic consequences for the Knicks, the NBA, and for Mr. Lin himself?
Economic Consequences for the Knicks

By my estimation, Jeremy Lin will boost team revenue by $10-20 million above what it would have been this season without his emergence…with the exact amount depending upon whether the Knicks make the playoffs and whether they can steal a round if they get there.

Remember that the 4 major sources of revenue for pro sports organizations are ticket revenue, media revenue, facility revenue, and ancillary revenue associated with the team’s brand.

Considering that the Knicks were headed nowhere and likely were going to miss the playoffs prior to Mr. Lin’s arrival, it would not be a stretch to argue that Mr. Lin’s presence and continued positive impact on the team’s performance could ensure fewer no-shows which may have ensued had the team been destined to not make the playoffs…which means more concessions and merchandise sold on game nights.

If the Knicks were to make the playoffs in part because of Mr. Lin’s addition to the lineup, then this generates additional gate and facility revenue from 2-3 home games per series that otherwise would not have arisen.

Because TV contracts are in place, Lin’s short term impact on media revenue is relatively nil.

In contrast, his short term impact on merchandise sales is off-the-charts. He’s even had a positive influence on the shares of Madison Square Garden Co.

Longer term, the Knicks could see the biggest return with respect to their various media contracts should Mr. Lin’s play and impact upon the team be sustained.

Forbes estimated that the Knicks team revenue (net of debt payments) for 2010-11 was $244 million…yielding a franchise value of $780 million.

If Jeremy Lin becomes a mainstay for the organization, then it would not be unrealistic to see net revenues reach the $275-300 million for the 2012-13 season (looking one year ahead since apples-to-apples comparisons can’t be made with the current shortened lockout season).

Economic Consequences for the NBA

As noted in my earlier piece, China’s interest in the NBA has stagnated some since the injuries and subsequent retirement of Yao Ming.

But Mr. Ming showed the NBA that there is a passionate basketball fan base in Asia and China specifically. The Yao Experience revealed that there was significant untapped market potential for the NBA in the Far East.

The difference was that people saw Yao Ming coming.

Very few saw Jeremy Lin…and as a result, the fan frenzy regarding his brand – both in NYC and China – is escalating at rapid speeds.

The NBA’s revenue was $3.8 billion in 2010-11.

Given the market Mr. Lin plays in and the ethnic connection he seemingly has with the largest country in the world, it’s not unrealistic to presume that NBA revenues in 2012-13 could be 1-2% higher simply on the strength of higher international TV rights…IF Jeremy Lin proves he is truly a game-changer.

That’s an additional $40-80 million from greater international media rights and merchandise sales.

Economic Consequences for Jeremy Lin

For starters, he won’t have to sleep on his brother’s sofa anymore.

His efforts last week transformed Mr. Lin from a player on the chopping block to at least earning a league minimum $800,000. Clearly, if his strong play continues and he leads the Knicks into the playoffs, this will assuredly result in a longer term contract.

But more importantly, his future endorsement potential seems sizable given the tangibles and intangibles at play which include his play, his story, his heritage, and his demeanor.

It was noted in an earlier piece that Usain Bolt secured a 5-year, $115 million endorsement deal from a Chinese company in 2009. Additionally, Li-Ning has endorsement deals with the likes of Shaquille O’Neal and Baron Davis.

If Jeremy Lin continues his stellar play and flare, the endorsement offers will come flying in…raising Mr. Lin’s star and asking price.

I don’t see him receiving Usain Bolt money.

But could I see him generating between $10-20 million annually in endorsements from an assortment of American, Chinese, and Taiwanese companies if he proves he’s the real deal between now and the end of the NBA season? Absolutely.

Lin’s Financial Stat Sheet

Assuming Jeremy Lin continue to be a transformative player for the NY Knicks for the rest of the 2011-12 NBA season and into next season, then it is not unreasonable to expect the following in 2012-13:

- The Knicks team revenues rise by between $25-50 million;

- The NBA’s revenues rise by between $40-80 million;

- Jeremy Lin to earn $10-20 million in endorsement income.

For a guy that was a virtual unknown just 2 weeks ago, that truly is lin-sanity.

(Adds record against Raptors this season in 15th paragraph.)

Feb. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Jeremy Lin has helped drive shares in his boss, Madison Square Garden Co., to a record high and produced the National Basketball Association’s best-selling jersey just over a week after he was a substitute at the end of the New York Knicks’ bench.

Since the beginning of the weekend, the Modell’s Sporting Goods Inc. outlet on 34th street and Broadway in Midtown Manhattan, near the Knicks’s home court, has run through multiple shipments of Lin gear, including his No. 17 jersey and T-shirts celebrating “Linsanity,” the catch phrase adopted by the team since the Asian-American Harvard University graduate led the Knicks to a season-best five straight wins in eight days.

The jersey is the NBA’s top online seller since Feb. 4, when Lin first dazzled NBA fans. Sales of Knicks merchandise are higher than any other team in the league since then, with the team accounting for five of the 10 most popular items.

“Just last week I was reading in the paper about him for the first time,” Miguel Gutierrez, the 28-year-old assistant manager at Modell’s, said in an interview. “I didn’t see this coming. We’re pretty much going to be getting new stuff every day.”

Earlier Cuts

Lin, a 23-year-old second-year player, was cut by the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets before joining the Knicks on Dec. 27.

He introduced himself to Garden fans with a 25-point, seven-assist performance in a Feb. 4 win over the New Jersey Nets, playing extended minutes for the first time with the team.

Two days later he had 28 points and eight assists against the Utah Jazz, the first player since Isiah Thomas in 1981 to reach those numbers in his first career start.

He followed with a 23-point, 10-assist game against former No. 1 draft pick John Wall and the Washington Wizards before eclipsing five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant with a 38-point, seven-assist performance against the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 10.

No other player in NBA history has scored at least 20 points and collected seven assists in his first four starts, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Shares in Madison Square Garden, which also owns the National Hockey League’s New York Rangers, have climbed 6.2 percent to $31.15, a record closing price, since Feb. 3, the day before the team’s winning run began. Madison Square Garden, now valued at $2.36 billion, was spun off by Cablevision Systems Corp. in February 2010.

Time to Buy?

“We even talked about buying MSG stock because of him,” said Li Ouyang, a Manhattan resident who bought a white Lin kids’ jersey for $39.99 even though she said she’s not a big basketball fan. “We should have done that before the Lakers game.”

The Knicks had their first winning season in a decade last year and moved to 13-15 two nights ago against Minnesota. Lin, 8-for-24 from the floor, set up Steve Novak for a game-tying 3- pointer and New York won 100-98 after Lin sank a foul shot for a one-point lead.

“It was an ugly one, it was a gutsy one,” Lin told reporters. “Everybody was tired. But that’s the duty of basketball. We never gave up. I struggled a lot tonight but, I mean, everyone who came in gave us a lift and picked us up.”

Upcoming Games

Carmelo Anthony has missed the win streak with a groin injury sustained against the Jazz, while an All-Star teammate, Amar’e Stoudemire, probably will return tomorrow night at the Toronto Raptors after missing four games following the death of his brother in a car accident. The Knicks lost 90-85 when the teams met January 2.

The Knicks have climbed into postseason contention. Entering last night’s games they were in eighth place in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. The top eight teams in each conference make the playoffs.

After playing the Raptors, the Knicks begin a five-game home stand against the Sacramento Kings, the New Orleans Hornets, the defending-champion Dallas Mavericks, the Nets and the Atlanta Hawks.

The average price for a ticket to one of those home games has surged by 20 percent in six days, according to TiqIQ, an aggregator of the online ticket resale market.

The average price for the Kings visit on Feb. 15 was $190 yesterday morning, a 26 percent increase, Chris Matcovich, a spokesman for TiqIQ, said in an e-mail.

Shirt Appeal

With more exposure, including increased television coverage for the Knicks in Asia, NBAStore.com is selling Lin jerseys at three price levels and will offer the same styles in youth sizes this week, along with additional T-shirt styles and women’s apparel.

Karen Devries, a nurse at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, couldn’t wait. She bought a white kids extra-large Lin jersey because Modell’s was out of adult sizes.

“It’s been a long time since we had somebody get the Garden to that level of excitement,” Devries, a Knicks season- ticket holder, said in an interview. “I don’t think he’s a one- week thing.”

Funny that a lot of Manhattanites can't watch this right now.

Unfortunately that goes for all the Chinese in Chinatown too.

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/television/jeremy-lin-fervor-put-pressure-msg-time-warner-cable-dispute-article-1.1020373?localLinksEnabled=false

ime Warner Cable?

Analysts say maybe.

With the Harvard grad boosting ratings and pride in the team, there's been growing pressure from Twitter, Facebook and customer feedback for Time Warner Cable and MSG to resolve their ongoing dispute over carrier fees, which has denied the majority of Manhattan cable subscribers access to the Knicks since Jan. 1.

With a below .500 record, Knicks fans have been annoyed — but not overly loud about the dispute. But with a new, exciting player, sources say that may change.

PHOTOS: LINSANITY! MEET JEREMY LIN

Brad Adgate, the senior vice president of research at Horizon Media, said that if Jeremy Lin can continue his amazing production, fans will continue to clamor louder to get their Knicks back.

"He's exciting and different," Adgate said. "You kind of know what you're going to get with the top three players, but he's added excitement. If they make a playoff drive, I think there's going to be a lot of pressure from the two sides to come to an agreement."

MSG Networks said Lin already boosted their ratings 36% since he had been inserted into the starting lineup.

"The top operators in the market recognize the value of the programming and the content that we offer, and all we've asked of Time Warner Cable is to recognize the fair market value of the services that we provide. And until that happens, we continue to urge fans to switch providers," MSG Media president Michael Blair added.

A Time Warner Cable spokesman replied that they wish "MSG didn't hold fans hostage to their demands for a 53% price increase."

MSG denies that is the increase they asked for, as both sides continue to sound like a broken record throughout their fight over cable feeds.

On Twitter, fans couldn't seem to care less about who was charging whom what — even if it may affect their cable bill in the end.

"Wait, so the only people in America who can't watch the Jeremy Lin are New Yorkers with Time Warner Cable," one fan tweeted.

"Thank you Time Warner for your dispute with MSG, as now I cannot watch Jeremy Lin play," another quipped.

He very well could be auditioning to get a guaranteed ticket to LA or Boston.

But I know he is the happiest out of everyone, if it all don't work out, he will have to fall back on his Harvard degree.

If Moneyball got Oscar love, the movie Linstreak will definitely win.

Theyre actually in a great position to do so cause hes a RFA and they have his Bird Rights. (Swipe below)

I mean let's say he plays well the rest of teh year--is that enough to commit to him long term--if not just for the added publicity and jersey sales?

Let's say he "regresses to the mean" you still pay him a couple mil for 2-3 years?

That'll be interesting to see how it all pans out.

I think Jeremys prolly the type of cat that will stay loyal and knows this D'antoni system is best for him. he'd prolly take a 1 million dollar a year contract. Lucky for him he has an agent. His agent
is like a b or c level agent though--so we'll see what he can do. If I were him I woulda been awake this past week negotiating any and every deal for jeremy overseas and making sure I secure things just in case things fall off.

His other clients are: Sonny Weems, Mo Evans, and Demetri Mccarney lol

Knicks in a Position to Keep Lin
By HOWARD BECK
Jeremy Lin scored 38 points against the Lakers on Friday night.Richard Perry/The New York TimesJeremy Lin scored 38 points against the Lakers on Friday night.

12:31 p.m. | Updated

From the moment that Jeremy Lin began his extraordinary streak, Knicks fans have had two nagging thoughts: Can he keep it up? And can we keep him?

Knicks fans can relax.

Lin answered the first question convincingly, stringing together four fantastic performances over seven days heading into Saturday night’s game against Minnesota. The answer to the second question is an unqualified yes.

Lin will be a restricted free agent this summer, meaning the Knicks can match any offer he receives, without respect to the salary cap. So if the Knicks want to keep him in July, they have every means to do so.

The Knicks do not own any so-called Bird rights on Lin because he was acquired on waivers. However, they are protected by what is known as the Gilbert Arenas rule. That provision, named for the former Washington guard, adopted in 2005, limits rival teams from offering anything more than the average player salary to a restricted free agent with two years or fewer in the N.B.A.

The Knicks will be able to use their midlevel exception, which is slightly higher than the average player salary, to sign Lin or to match any offer. If no other team tenders Lin an offer, the Knicks can use any part of their midlevel exception or biannual exception to sign him.

After going undrafted in 2010, Lin signed a two-year deal with the Golden State Warriors. The second year ensured his restricted free-agent status. That classification would have disappeared had Lin become a free agent after the Warriors waived him in early December.

But t The Houston Rockets claimed Lin off waivers and inherited that status, which was transferred to the Knicks when they claimed Lin on Dec. 27, after Houston waived him.

Lin was in danger of being waived again, by the Knicks, before he started his streak Feb. 3. He had done little to establish himself before then, although he showed a few glimmers in games against Houston and Boston.

A key decision point was approaching: whether to keep Lin and guarantee his $788,000 contract for the season, or to release him. Teams had until Feb. 7 to cut players with nonguaranteed deals, and Knicks officials had thoughts about waiving Lin.

“His expiration date was coming up,” Coach Mike D’Antoni said in an interview last week. “We had to evaluate to see if there was something there or not.”

The guarantee deadline “kind of prompted us” to give Lin more playing time, he said.

Lin was shaky in that Boston game, but D’Antoni decided to give Lin another shot the next night against the Nets.

Lin responded with the best game of his career, with 25 points and 7 assists off the bench. Two nights later, he got his first start and set the bar even higher, with 28 points and 8 assists.

Suddenly, there was no decision to make. Lin will be a Knick for the rest of this season, and almost certainly beyond.

With the Amare, Melo and Chandler contracts, I don't see how the Knicks could get another big name free agent without the rest of the team being a bunch of scrubs.

Middle school yearbooks featuring Lin for sale on eBay

By ANTHONY SULLA-HEFFINGER

Last Updated: 12:03 PM, February 13, 2012

Posted: 11:58 AM, February 13, 2012

Those prices are “Lin-sane!”

Two unique items of Jeremy Lin memorabilia have been posted on eBay with the price tags set at $4,800 and $2,800 each.

A seller who goes by the name “doida” posted two yearbooks, one bearing Lin’s signature and the other featuring a picture of the Knicks point guard, on the popular auction site this past weekend. Both items are allegedly from 2001 when Lin attended Jane Lathrop Stanford Middle School.

The signed yearbook, which the seller is asking $4,800 for, reads “Fernando, Wassup ‘Ronaldo.’ Thanks for being my friend. Have a wonderful summer.”

The seller also posted a yearbook featuring Lin in the eighth grade with the JLS basketball team. The caption under the photo reads “Eighth Grade Boys: A Team Basketball League Champions.”

Both items are listed as “Buy It Now,” which means users cannot bid on either item, and are available until Tuesday afternoon.

EW YORK — Linsanity has been rewarded by the folks working in commissioner David Stern’s office.

Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks and Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week for games played Monday, Feb. 6, through Sunday, Feb. 12.

Lin led the Knicks to a 4-0 week, averaging 27.3 points, 8.3 assists and 2.0 steals. His 109 points over his first four career starts are the most by any player since 1976-77, and he became the first player in NBA history to tally at least 20 points and seven assists in each of his first four starts. Westbrook helped the Thunder to a 3-1 week, averaging 30.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.5 steals. Westbrook scored 28 or more points in all four of Oklahoma City’s games, and posted one double-double (28 points, 11 rebounds) on Feb. 6, in a 111-107 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Westbrook connected on a career-high 15 field goals on Feb. 9, during a 106-101 loss to the Sacramento Kings.

Eastern Conference Player of the week

The 109 pts in 4 starts is the most since the NBA/ABA merger

He became the first player in N.B.A. history to post at least 20 points and 7 assists in his first four starts.

oh and bonus he could team up with KD in some Flag Football if NBA doesnt work out:

You mean in his first 4 starts, not a big deal, but that's at least the second time I've seen you type that incorrectly and I was wondering if you actually understood the difference.

You can put Kobe's 81 in and he's already 3/4ths of the way to 109.

Thanks for pointing out that typo though.

-The Knicksā€™ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Michael Jordan, 99.
Billy Ray Bates, 99

i wonder what the 5 game splits are
edit: over 5 first starts, AI has 107 and shaq has 129. no numbers for the other 2.

Will the transition be seamless? Prob not. But to imply Melo’s outsized ego is the primary problem is absurd & insulting to intelligent fans

In Jeremy Lin's four starts, MSG averaging 3.08% of homes, up from 1.8 for previous 20 games. Even with ESPN taking away some viewers Friday

Saturday night's Knicks-Tiimberwolves game averaged 4.17% of NY area homes, best for MSG since Melo's first game last Feb. 23.
