This guy gets oodles of hate every week, and every week people say, "This is where the boat will sink," and he finds ways every week to keep it afloat.

If he finds a way to beat the Bears or Pats, best believe I'm going apeshit.

You can't lose. You (all Tebow disciples) are playing with house money here. Beating the Jets is monumental but losing to the Lions is inconsequential.

An amoebic set of non-goals guarantees 0 accountability, measure of success or even the possibility of failure.

Oh shit Tebow's just like Occupy Wall Street!

check downs, out of sync, a passing game that doesn't look more than 10 yards downfield unless it's a chuck to his 6'5" security blanket.

Is there a QB doing less with more WR talent than Sanchez?

i remember being hype when the jets drafted him, but this year he has really shown he's a lower level starter in the nfl. there is way too much talent on this team for him to be playing as bad as he is.

the back to back draft class that consisted of: Matty Ice, Waka Flacco, Stafford, and Freeman

Sanchez is getting crucified in NYC worse then Isaiah Thomas was... and this isn't an excuse... but Matty Ice and Flacco have looked terrible at times this year... Freeman has at least "regressed" as much and all that Stafford has shown is he's good enough to throw jump balls to Calvin Johnson... year 3... I'm not giving up hope on Sanchez at all yet...

I think many "good" QBs have looked like crap this year, because there wasn't a proper offseason.

It also doesn't hurt that Sanchez is tied to one of the wackest offensive coordinators in the NFL. I think even if he had Mike Martz or someone he wouldn't be Kolbing out over there

my point is basically, all of them need work, without question, and Sanchez (I believe, too lazy too look and not sure about Freeman) is younger then all of them...

all 5 teams are in a tough position... a young qb who has shown he's capable of being the man at times, but has also shown they may NEVER get over the hump... Im as pessimistic a Jets fan there is but I still think Sanchez can be the guy, he's shown me he can in enough games where I believe the talent is there, it's either gonna click in the next 12 months or it never will... He gets the rest of this season and the first 8 games of next season from me... What will make that tough though, is they will definitely have a new offensive coordinator this year, I assume plax and ldt will be gone, theres gonna be a lot of turnover

I think Sanchez is about on the same level as Flacco. I'd place Matty Ice slightly higher, though none of these three guys are elite.

While playoff wins are important in establishing a QB's worth, Stafford's rate of growth, even with slip-ups like the Bears game, is more impressive to me than Sanchez's. Especially considering Stafford basically didn't play at all last year.

Even if you don't buy overall growth, Stafford is having a much better year this year than Sanchez. Considering Sanchez has played close to double the amount of games that Stafford has, I would hope he'd be showing more consistency.

Stafford went 26-of-29 for 300 yards with five touchdowns and no picks. He threw those 5 TDs to 5 different receivers (none of whom were Megatron, by the way).

I have two points.

1) Sanchez has never, ever gone off like that.

and

2) Stafford did this with a fractured index finger on his throwing hand.

So YOUR two points that 1) Sanchez has big games too, and 2) Stafford is a pussy, were both completely shitted upon within about 45 minutes.

It's already happened. See my post below--Staford's ALREADY had more big games in his career than Sanchez. Sanchez's best career game wouldn't be in Stafford's top 3.

Stafford went 75-117 for 991 yards, 9 touchdowns, and zero picks.

This three game stretch, in addition to propelling his team to the playoffs three years removed from an 0-16 season, also represents a sustained level of play higher than anything Mark Sanchez has ever shown in the NFL.

Discuss.

Stafford has thrown 4 or 5 touchdown passes in a game as often as Sanchez has thrown 3.

Fact.

Sanchez has thrown 3 TDs four times in 40 regular season games.

Stafford has thrown 4 or 5 TDs four times in 23 regular season games (4TDs twice, 5 TDs twice).

Son, Stafford has 44 career touchdown passes to Sanchez's 43, and Sanchez has played in SEVENTEEN MORE GAMES than Stafford.

So yeah, this actually is not the first time Stafford has done this. At all. However, the next time Sanchez does it WILL be the first time.

As for toughness? Yeah, peep the Browns game in 2009.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugA8G4rv_8g

He was bobbing and weaving past trainers to get back on the field with a separated shoulder, then threw the game winning pass one-armed as time expired.

Stafford >>>>>>>>> Sanchez.

His first pick yesterday was bad. He just didn't see the LB. But the second one? I can live with that pick. He tried to thread the needle to the best WR in football in the end zone. If the ball was 8 inches higher, it's a touchdown for Calvin.

He's one of like 2 QBs in the league who would even think of TRYING that pass. I love that about him.

He's never been one to throw the backbreaking 4th quarter pick. He just doesn't do it. Sanchez definitely does. Also, media market.

The end of the San Fran game comes to mind where he had 2 different oppotunities to do something and he did NOTHING with NO sense of urgency whatsoever in a game they coulda won. If Sanchez did that we'd still be hearing about it. Stafford justs gumps his way to the next week where he played like do do again.

Then comes the Bears game where he was terrible....ah well the weather or some shit. Then he plays terrible to start the Panthers game, should never have been down like that to that team but he comes back and all is forgiven. So if winning is all that matters why does Sanchez get shit?? He'll end his career with more playoff wins than Stafford if he retired today. Its ridiculous the double standard, and yes the media market is probably 150% to do with it.

I read/post at a few Lions message boards, and Stafford got absolutely MURDERED for the end of that SF game. People posting real reckless like

"He needs to lay off the donuts"

"He was OBVIOUSLY hungover, you could see it on his face"

"He looked so lethargic--is it possible he's addicted to the painkillers he took for his shoulder? I'm just saying."

Just outlandish shit. But if you're only talking about national media, then yeah, it's a New York vs Detroit thing. (Even then, John Lynch straight up said yesterday that the Lions should consider benching him for Shaun Hill.)

He had a really rough patch there, yeah. Looks like he shook it off nicely. You can't compare wins with these 2 QBs though. Stafford took over The Worst Team in NFL History. Oh-and-sixteen. The Lions defense in 2007-2009 was the worst in NFL history by almost any statistical measure. His offensive line was and still is shit.

Sanchez took over a team with one of the best running games in football, a fucking star-studded offensive line, and a downright beastly defense.

Obviously Sanchez gets more criticism, and it's for two reasons. He plays in New York, and gets all the media attention that comes with it, but he's also been gifted with as good a situation as a young QB could possibly ask for and failed to win a title.

That last part, fair or not, is why people shit on him. PERSONALLY, I think he's done very well. Two AFC title games is absolutely nothing to sneeze at. It would be hard to do much better than that without, you know, winning a Super Bowl. But I still think Stafford is a much better quarterback, and I expect the next 10 years to show that definitively.

I want the Lions to do great and I want Stafford to succeed mainly cuz of that pricetag, but he needs to be held accountable now. U wanna be considered the best now, u gotta win u can do that Chicago game ever again.

Totally agreed. I think Stafford is better, but I don't agree with the original premise of this post at all (Sanchez = bottom 10 QB)

Agreed 100%. He's still SO young though (2 years younger than Sanchez), and due to the horrible mess of the franchise that drafted him and the time missed due to injuries, I feel like we're only just now seeing the very early beginnings of "Matthew Stafford, NFL Quarterback." I honestly believe he can be one of the great ones.

I mean I like Stafford but I've been telling people to hold off on the elite QB talk. He's a terrific young prospect who is on the right path but when you got Megatron, Burleson, Young, Scheffler, Pettigrew you should be able to get somethings done.

I think Stafford has a legit shot to go to the next level but he needs a playoff run or two like Sanchez. Otherwise, it's just a lot of hollow numbers & we all KNOW what that looks like:

I'm just really surprised that there are Lions fans who AREN'T as optimistic about Stafford as I am. He played what, 12 games his first two seasons? And most of those were with the same core roster that went 0-16.

What we're seeing now is his first "real" season as far as I'm concerned, and he's lighting it up. He absolutely laid an egg against Chicago, sure, and played poorly against SF for the most part, but he's also led some crazy second half comebacks, made some throws most NFL QBs couldn't even dream of, and shown more command of the offense than any Lions QB I've ever seen. He's done all this with virtually zero running game, too--how many NFL offenses have success after losing their top 2 RBs for the season?

Look, I've been a Lions fan since I was like 6 years old, so I understand pessimism. I made CASH in 2008, because around late October I bet anyone who'd take the action that they were going 0-16. But the fact is, we haven't seen QB play at this level in my lifetime. And unless you watched Bobby Layne, neither have you. So this right here? This shit is the fun part. Have a little Kool-Aid.

to be the next Brady, Brees, Peyton or Rodgers.. It's waaaayyyyyy to early for that. Stafford hasn't even started 2 seasons worth of games yet.. Let him go on a deep run in the playoff first.

But if you want to crown his ass..... lol

Stafford has thrown four or more touchdowns in 17% of his starts.

Sanchez has thrown four or more touchdowns in 0% of his starts.

Hmmmmmmm.

To use a standard of excellence that Sanchez has actually achieved in his career:

Stafford has thrown 3 or more touchdowns in 26% of his starts.

Sanchez has thrown 3 or more touchdowns in 10% of his starts.

One out of four, or one out of ten? Which would you rather have?

you would think Rex Ryan and his vaunted Jets defense with players like Bart Scott and Revis would have been capable of not giving up a 95 yard scoring drive to a Tim Tebow offense.

which is fine if you're up big, not when the score is close because your offense has almost been as lousy as denver's.

the jets D played great virtually all night, only thing is tebow's defense actually scored for him, and he needed that badly cause he couldn't get anything going despite starting several drives in jet territory. dont be ignorant, in a game this close, the pick-six was pretty much the difference in the game, it prevented new york from having a chance to go up two scores which would then force multiple late drives by tebow to win the game, not just one.

That worse than a pick 6... A pick six is one bad throw by a QB. A 95-yd drive is several bad plays by a defense versus an awful passer. Now if Sanchez did a Romo vs the Jets or Lions that would be a little different.

which one is Sanchez, and which one is Moore? Hmmm. Well, the TD-INT numbers should give it away since Moore has only played half as many games, but still good for a lol imo

you're right though. having a top 3 receiver who has
more yards receiving yds and 1 less td than the Jets top 2 "threats"(lol) combined is nothing.

burleson, titus young and pettigrew are all very good
weapons. any lions fan would tell you that.

I won't even bother getting into how bad Plaxico

Congrats Sanchez, you've moved up to 9th worst offensive starter on the team

Hopefully they start talking about Stafford the way they talked about Sanchez these past three years. Staff is obviously the best QB in that draft and Top 5 - 10 QB in the league right now. He can only get better. This is without a quality running game as well.

I can't wait to turn on the Jets & their entire fanbase for fun, the only thing that's easier than the slow-pitch softball I'll make of that that madmaking is the New York money coming in on these bums when they go get some old fuck to captain this ship to nowhere.

Those who understand football recognize that this team isn't good.

You can keep upping this post for every year Sanchez is in the league past your boy Henne or every road postseason win Sanchez has more than Dolphin playoff *appearances* in this millenium.

Makes me no nevermind.

Blame the Mexican like the rest of the dumb-ass entitled whitefolks who think Rex is doing a good job, Greene's a good back or this defense isn't terrible......I'll be right here ready to slice you up with the sword of righteousness when Judgement Day comes.

Let 'em go join Sneaky Pete in Seattle.

Trade his bargain of a deal for eight games of Vick at 20 mill plus next year.

I gives not one fuck.

Mark Sanchez has gotten better every year while this team has gotten worse but somehow it was never his credit when they won & always his fault when they lose.

And motherfuckas wanna jock Tim Tebow for winning a few regular season games.

Tirate a un poso, Baboso!

that directly fostered an environment which brought about the most repugnant scandal in college football history, that might be a tough one to deal with (in fact, I'd probably cut-and-run from that bullshit immediately since that program's foundation is as dead as JoePa will be by next fall).

However, I seem to have made it through the less morally-taxing adversity of the harshest sanctions/probation of the past two decades plus while set up nicely to be a title contender again next year (something Pedo State hasn't been since we were still in high school).

I'm also gonna be just fine with the adversity of everyone blaming Sanchez & then the Jets miraculously continuing to suck if/when they part ways with the 'problem' on this "slapdick team"(c)Rex Ryan

I have a fairly thick-skin sporting-wise based on the city that I was born in & represent whether I'm in the East, West, or in the unfortunately case of the past six long days.....the American South.

*in Disney 'Pink Elephants On Parade' voice* "I can stand the site of worms/and look at microscopic germs/but pedophiliac demon-sperm is really too much for me!"

instead of the highlights (and lowlights this year, can't front ha)

you'd see a LOT of this is NOT on him... his bum ass wr's get zero separation, the line isnt blocking, and the playcalling is terrible...

I wanted no part of Santonio Holmes back, dude is the most overrated, overpaid offensive player in the league

all that and Sanchez still has an 8-7 record...

It's funny what losing does because Eli was just as abysmal as him Saturday (that whole game was shit) and not a peep his made cause Victor Cruz made a play

no matter what he does smuts will always think he's mediocre, and not admit that at his age he has plenty of time to grow into a way better then mediocre qb...

and lb gon hate... still hating on reggie smush for helping HIS team win! lol

Joe Flacco is going back to the playoffs again with a great running game and defense and he gonna blow it again too

You seem incapable of separating team achievement and individual evaluation.

"Team X wins, therefore QB Y is a big reason" is as about as flawed as logic can be.

Don't know how else to say it.

Here, let me blow your mind:

Rex Grossman once led a team to a super bowl.

Trent Dilfer WON a super bowl.

Alex Smith got a team a first round bye.

!!!

pass mediocrity... he just turned 25 years old...

Aaron Rodgers sat on the bench til he was that age (not saying Sanchez will be as good as Rodgers by any means)

Eli Manning is finally having a real good complete season and he's got 5-6 years on Sanchez...
