I wouldn't be surprised at all if he still does pretty well this year, or even if the Patriots advance fairly far in the play-offs.

He's just going to go back to his old ways now that Moss is gone. We're not going to see the big play as much as we've seen the last couple years. We're going to see more of that old grind it out offense imo.

2002, 2005, 2007, and 2009 were his best
years as a passer.

He didn't win anything in any of them.

They only one where he won as an elite passer
was 2004, the Eagles choke job super bowl. And
2004 is barely in his top 5. Barely.

The Pats are better when he's more of a game
manager who can dominate at times. They thrive
off defense and physical football.

I didn't say it. The stats did.

Period.

peyton didn't win a super bowl in any of his 3 best years.

and 2002 was better than 2004? Only by total yards (but not per completion). 2004 was better by every other statistical metric, advanced or basic.

you could say that about pretty much every SB team in the past 20 years, except the Rams, perhaps. lol.

The implications are when Brady won his three chips, Bellichick (sp?) was cheating, so they don't count.

Then, they traded for Moss, and Brady was a record setting QB, so Moss is responsible for all Brady's '07-'08 success.

And now that Moss is gone, and Bellichick can't cheat, Brady is going to suck.

I don't AGREE with it, but that's the agenda as I've seen it been laid out for the past few years.

All I give a shit about is that no one (Patriots fans included) is trying to pass off that "Brady is better than Montana" bullshit. As long as that nonsense has stopped, everything else is gravy.

How they don't need Moss now.

I thought that when he came to a winner he'd change? The Patriots culture would make him a better teammate? He'd learn from Tom Brady how to be a good guy?

F.
O.
H.

When everything was going well - Randy was such a great guy! He had changed! He was best buds with Tom and Tom's forehead! What an offense this team had!

Oh...what happened? Randy made one of the best catches we'll see this year last week and now ya'll trade him?

Now everyone is writing him off like he's the problem and not the awful drafting and terrible defense. Not to mention the Spygate thing...uhoh!

You think Brandon Tate is going to get the attention Moss does? You think Welker going against a team's top DB isn't going to hurt him?

Oh - Danny Woodhead and Julian Edelman can pick up the slack? I'm beginning to wonder if Faulk really got hurt or if Bill had him Gilloolied so he could get Woodhead some playing time.

AT BEST - a loss in the first round again. At best.

and the team will be worse without moss. the team isn't going very far unless the defense learned to play the game better. that was true with or without moss. without moss, there's less margin of error.

now, how great is brady? great qb or greatest qb ever?

They renogiated with Brady, and pre-madonna Moss feels neglected. I'm taking my ball and going home.

Any word on who they are sending to NE for Moss. I'm not really sure how this makes their team better. They're off to a decent start and have 1st and 2nd round picks from previous trades.

He wants to be traded to a division with teams like the Packers and Bears, to a team with a QB out of shape and retiring after this season. Wouldn't you rather play in the AFC East against the Dolphins and Bills, on a 3-1 team? If the Pats made him an offer in the off-season, made him the priority, instead of focusing on paying Brady, this isn't an issue and he retires a Pat.

They're still gonna pass alot, and pass effectively.

All you have to do is watch tape and see how many gawwdofful throws he whiffed by Moss' general region

...in the past, there have been many misfired that i put on Randy, but Brady had recently just been farting at the dude (no homo, i think).

That being said, losing Randy could very well resharpen Tom's game.

"Brady was a game manager supreme. Didn't start opening it up until Moss."

Now, the "didn't start opening it up until Moss" is true, because even though he put up great numbers pre-Moss, he put up MONSTER numbers with him.

But "game manager supreme" is ridiculous. He was an elite quarterback before Moss, he became a record-breaker with him.

If you look at the threads below that reply, they were all meant on refuting the "game manager supreme" title by pointing out the elite numbers Brady put up before Moss. That's not saying Moss wasn't a huge upgrade, it's saying what you just said - that Brady was an elite QB, not just a game manager.

But Moss isnt capable of his 2007 numbers without a superstar like Brady either

The key difference is Brady has won 3 SBs without Moss.

Randy Moss has not won any SBs with or without Brady.

Sure does. And in those Super bowls, Brady was managing
a mostly ball control offense.

>Randy Moss has not won any SBs with or without Brady.

Trent Dilfer won a super bowl without Randy Moss too

Without Randy Moss, the 2007 Pats team is just above .500,
because that defense was not that good.

Explain

Also, Brady's 3 Super Bowl years were 3 of his more
mediocre passing years(overall). So basically what
you're saying is that the Pats are a better team when
Brady is not a star passer, which is etherous to his
legacy and supports the original game that he's at
his best when he's a game manager

His passing years were 2002, 2005, 2007,
and 2009. None of those teams won Super Bowls

The only good passing year in which he was was
2004,

just as your total lack of sports knowledge never ceases to amaze me

Bottom line:

Tommy got 3 rings and a first class non stop ticket punched to Canton before Randy came to town. Randy just helped pad Tommy's stats, and vice versa

Both are going to the Hall

Only one will have 3+ rings

if this isn't the dumbest thing i've ever seen EVER:

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-playbook/09000d5d81b1fd09/Playbook-Patriots-will-move-on

what's so funny about this is, look closely at the examples they use to demonstrate patriots WRs/TEs making plays (see?! they don't need moss! he didn't even catch a single pass this week!). moss is PROMINENT in almost every example drawing double coverage, forcing the safeties deep, or creating the EXACT gap in coverage that welker or hernandez just happen to be running through wide open. they're disproving their own point. let's see how good welker is against #1 DBs with safety help.

and of those routes in which he gets covered by LBs, how much of that is due specifically to randy moss being on the field?

>and of those routes in which he gets covered by LBs, how much

Randy Moss is lined up right next to Welker. Leonard is helping Revis over the top and ends up 15 yards from the line of scrimmage when Welker catches the ball. Welker then runs through open field -- cleared by Moss' deep threat ability -- for a first down.

but yeah. I'm sure that was one of the few isolated instances in the past several years. to your point, against the Dolphins he drew nickel corner standout Benny Sapp!

http://www.nfl.com/goto?id=09000d5d81b16548

or how about the shutdown defensive tandem of Channing Crowder (a linebacker...strange) and Nate Jones that Miami used last year?

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d814c19bb/WK-13-Wes-Welker-highlights

I'm not sure why Vontae Davis or Sean Smith weren't covering Welker -- it's not like there would be another Patriots receiver demanding their attention, right?

that'd be dumb, so back up on the straw man attacks.

>Randy Moss is lined up right next to Welker. Leonard is
>helping Revis over the top and ends up 15 yards from the line
>of scrimmage when Welker catches the ball. Welker then runs
>through open field -- cleared by Moss' deep threat ability --
>for a first down.

My question is this: if Moss were instead Brandon Tate, would they have changed the coverage? Leonard would still be helping with the deep ball + Revis would still be on the outside WR, right? Maybe Leonard jumps the route faster and Welker gets fewer yards, sure. quite likely, in fact.

But is that because Moss is an all-time great or because he's the deep threat and Welker is lined up in the slot? If it's the first, it'll be different with Moss gone. If it's the second, then Welker will still do well. I think it's a mix: welker will do worse, but still be a top WR.

>but yeah. I'm sure that was one of the few isolated instances
>in the past several years. to your point, against the Dolphins
>he drew nickel corner standout Benny Sapp!

THAT'S EXACTLY MY POINT! Unless you're moving your #1 CB to cover the slot, that's who Welker gets because they line welker up in the slot all the time. It isn't moss alone that gets welker that coverage. It's the scheming as well. Now, again, that isn't to say Moss doesn't help welker, but that it isn't that because moss exists = welker gets LB coverage. It's welker is in the slot = nickel coverage. Which is dumb...move your 2nd best cover guy to cover Welker and leave Brandon Tate on the nickel corner. But they don't. And with Moss gone, are they suddenly going to do that? I don't know.

>I'm not sure why Vontae Davis or Sean Smith weren't covering
>Welker -- it's not like there would be another Patriots
>receiver demanding their attention, right?

Again, exactly my question (and I'm honestly ignorant here): why not line up Sean Smith on Welker?!?! Vontae Davis was shadowing Moss most of the game, so why not put Smith on the 2nd best WR on the Pats? Why put him on Tate? Let Sapp take Tate and Smith on Welker.

-favre sucks still: damn, can't even do it with the best receiver in the game on the team! Brady was getting it done with moss, a short white guy, some receivers you'd never heard of, and a rookie TE

-favre does well: Moss is saving his ass. Anyone other than one of the top three receivers to ever play, and favre would be back to sucking. it isn't favre's improvement that is the reason the team is doing better, it's moss opening up the field and making it easy for everyone around him.

in truth He made people remember Randy Moss again because out in Oakland, Randy Moss may as well have been James Jett.

Brady is the Baddest Qb in the game.

it wasn't his fault the pats lost to the Giants.

the Manning Brothers had to go through him to get a ring each. think about this dude could be walking around with 5 rings right now.

game manager? Tom Brady ain't named Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson.

Not one. Not even a west coast offensive coordinator.

They might say that in front of cameras to teach something
about "morals" and "values."

But no one who wants to win games would rather have Jerry
Rice.

Sorry. You can guys can kick and scream all you want,
but here is a fact:

Of the OFFENSIVE SIDE OF THE BALL, Randy Moss is one
of the 3 most destructive non-QBs to ever play the game,
Easily.

Jim Brown was probably the only other one who defenses
had to engineer their whole defense around.

*Maybe* Barry Sanders was another.

Moss is easily in this group.

Hell, even if you INCLUDE QBs, there aren't 5 greater
game changers ever.

The stats don't lie.

but an awesome movie would be about a ballsy/irresponsible QB that refused to let the kicker on the field, no matter what the score was. 4th down in OT and it's tied 20-20? Doesn't matter. It would be an insult to his manhood to let the kicker win the game.

In response to Reply # 105

He's not the passing threat that his with Moss. His strength
now is picking his spots and dumping the ball off, managing
the clock, avoiding trouble.

Its a great strategy to build a winning football team, but
you just completely conceded that the Patriots are not better
when Brady is a big time throwing threat. They're not. He
can't handle that the way Manning, Brees, and company can.
Those guys can win CHAMPIONSHIPS as pure passers. Brady wins
them by game management w/good defense. Sorry, its true. You
just admitted it.

I know you're mad, but I'd be even madder if I was you.

Much, much, madder.

I'd have rage, rage, at the wisdom of Orbit_Established.

And LOL @ Branch already being better than Welker. They get
the same coverage now, because neither commands the attention
of the defense the way Moss does. Branch is a better wide
receiver. The reason he was so average with Seatle is because
he wasn't playing with Randy Moss. No discussion.

White people can't even get their plea cops correct,
because last year you and your kindred was talking about
how he had a relatively down year because he was coming
off a devastating injury

Now its Randy Moss' fault?

Do you see now, why black people and white people
will never get along in America?

Y'all don't want to let go of ANYTHING. Even when you
DO HAVE A HALL OF FAME, ALL TIME GREAT QB (nobody debates
that), you have to TRY TO FIND a way to shit on the black
dude.

EVEN WHEN you don't NEED TO.

I mean, the facts are the facts:

Deion Branch is already better than Welker.

Welker had great years when he was covered by slow
Bernie Kosar niggas in the secondary via Moss getting
all the defensive attention

The Patriots' BEST YEARS AS A TEAM were not when Brady
was the big time tosser. They were when he was a ball
control QB and the Pats had a great defense

Brady will never SNIFF A SEASON like 2007 when he threw
to the most destructive offensive player in league history
save Jim Brown (no player did more to a defense by merely
showing up than Jim Brown, followed by Randy Moss...the
stats speak for themselves...Moss was the leading receiver
on the TOP TWO SCORING OFFENSES IN LEAGUE HISTORY A DECADE
APART!!! <---Lawwwd the ether in here gettin STANKY doggie)

>the pats won? check.

Kicker, and the white running back that Phil Simms
kept calling "Dave Meggett"

>brady had one of the two biggest games against the Baltimore
>defense yet by a qb? check.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAH
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Let's look at the world beating QBs he's lined up
against, shall we?

Mark Sanchez? You wanna compare him to Brady? LOL

Carson Palmer? LOL

Charlie Batch? Solid backup. Wanna compare to Brady?

Seneca Wallace? Good player. Team is doodoo on a stick.
Wanna compare him to Brady?

Kyle Orton? In Brady's category?

So basically you're saying that Brady outperformed a
22 year old LATINO (who will be great one day, but not now),
two backups (both black + better than lots of white starters,
but still not in Brady's category), one guy who just sucks,
and one top 10-15 QB(Orton).

So Brady's amazing 2int games means what again?

I mean, you just can't take it, can you?

You refuse to, eh?

You just want to PRETEND that Brady had a great passing
game?

You wanna just MAKE shit up?

Brady is a great QB.

Great QB.

One of the most clutch ever.

But he is not putting up anything close to the numbers
he put up with Randy Moss. Might be a good thing for the
team, because they don't really have the flavor to utilize
Moss....a Mike Martz type nigga would have built a dynasty
there, but Belicheat and them don't have the chops for
it.

They like ball control and defense. That's the old
Parcells swag, and I can't knock the hustle. When it
works, it works.

But the fact is this: Brady needs Moss to put up Brees,
Manning numbers. And unlike those two, the Pats will
never win with him being a pure big-time passer. The Saints
won with Brees THROWING the ball a zllion times. Same with
the Colts(though not really in that superbowl). Montana
hurled it tons during some of those wins. Doug Williams too.

Brady is not one of them. He's a more talented Phil Simms.
There's no shame in that.

There's also no shame in admitting that Randy Moss made him
and Welker and all them look good. Inflated their numbers.

You can also apologize to me for wasting my time, because

anyone in here talking about brady w/o moss after one game against the ravens is a dumbfuck. especially because brady faced the same ravens last season w moss (and no welker, just to piss you off) and looked like pure shit.

>White people can't even get their plea cops correct,
>because last year you and your kindred was talking about

^^^^also true. lol.

>Now its Randy Moss' fault?

no, i was talking about the ravens game last year. HAHAHAHAA. get out of that minefield.

>Y'all don't want to let go of ANYTHING. Even when you
>DO HAVE A HALL OF FAME, ALL TIME GREAT QB (nobody debates

only because you started it by shitting on brady in the post that spawned this one.

>Deion Branch is already better than Welker.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. noted.

>The Patriots' BEST YEARS AS A TEAM were not when Brady
>was the big time tosser. They were when he was a ball
>control QB and the Pats had a great defense

sure. except, 2007 they actually count as a best year, to me.

>Brady will never SNIFF A SEASON like 2007 when he threw

umm...no shit. no one is saying he will. just saying, he'll still win, he'll still put up decent lines, and you'll still be mad about it.

>Kicker, and the white running back that Phil Simms
>kept calling "Dave Meggett"

so did they win? and did brady play qb? and did he throw over 40 times?

>So Brady's amazing 2int games means what again?

so i take it your reading the box score. one of brady's two picks was an end of regulation heave, idiot.

>You just want to PRETEND that Brady had a great passing
>game?

never said that. said they won.

>You wanna just MAKE shit up?

me? no. you? apparently.

>But he is not putting up anything close to the numbers

you know who stopped mike martz' dynasty? BRADY AND THE PATS. LMAO. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAx400 more lines of that same HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

you cant keep spouting lies and believing them. the pats threw the ball > 40 times against baltimore. brady threw the ball 5th most IN THE LEAGUE in 2003, 4th most in 2005, 3rd most in 2002 WITHOUT MOSS.

>Brady is not one of them. He's a more talented Phil Simms.
>There's no shame in that.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! recorded. phil simms best year is an average one for brady.

They are well-coached and have lots of talent, so
they'll win games with guts and savvy.

But the days of Brady contending for the passing title
are loooooong gone. Loooong gone. Doesn't mean he's not
a great player. But he's no longer putting up elite
passing numbers.

Oh and LOL @ Branch already being better than Welker.

Maybe slightly better.

Excellent game manager. Protects football. Gets

7 games into the season:

12 touchdowns

He's doing a great job not turning the ball
over and letting his defense win.

Like I said -- Phil Simms. Nothing to be
ashamed of.

But his days as a great hurler are done.

Phillip Rivers is clearly a better pure passer,
for example. Far better. And Brady isn't even on
Manning's plane.

Brady is one of the great game managers ever.

my opinion on the trade. Agendas aside for the moment (I'm no fun).

With Moss they were sitting at 3-1, and looking like a very flawed team for reasons that had little to nothing to do with Moss. The trade itself seemed like a "We're giving up on the season" move when they weren't in a position where that made sense. As I said at the time, with the little we got for him and with the NFL being so wide open, there was no reason to make the trade unless he had truly become that unhappy, and I didn't think that was the case. Every team looked flawed (and continues to look flawed), so perhaps the D figures it out and we somehow get into the SB.

That point still holds true, but they've also looked better without Moss. But I'm not convinced it's because of him just yet. They have a more balanced attack, but they're scoring less at the same time.

I still want to see how they perform against the Steelers and Jets before I anoint them. They don't have great stats, they've still only faced two good teams and a good team with a bad record (Chargers, not Vikings. Vikings are officially bad now), and they've only won one game w/o sweating it out at the end. Then again, the worry with past teams was that they didn't have those kind of tests earlier in the season.

Maybe I'm not giving enough credit to the people saying that the Moss situation was unmanageable. I highly doubt that was the case, but I'll allow for the possibility. With or without the locker room factor I'd say they were looking like, at best, a 2nd round exit team with Moss. So if they get to the AFC championship game or beyond I'll say the trade was worth it. If not, I'll maintain my view that it wasn't.

Btw, I only read the transcript, but his vow to ask himself the questions and then answer them in the press conference is great. i love Randy.

edit: just for the record, I'm happy with where they're at, I just like overanalyzing things.

frustrating as hell to watch until the other team is in the red zone and then, suddenly, they remember they don't suck.

it's amazing how they can't stop a run until they're in the red zone and then become beasts. Frustrating as all hell. but that's far more important than whether or not the pats have an explosive offense to winning.

the team also was converting on 3rd downs. I know welker's numbers are down (dude is still; recovering + adjusting to no moss), but he converted a number of key third downs. and brady was playing confident as fuck.

McCourty is becoming a legit playmaker FAST. great draft pick. I saw Ron Brace make a big run stop too, which was cool to see, if really weird.

i loved what I saw yesterday, but mostly in hindsight. At the time I was freaking out.

Brady could have gone down as the best ever. he probably won't now but it seems certain that the Patriots are going to change into a very different type of team plus they are re-generating and have a lot of youth. The patriots could easily win another two or three titles with Brady as QB.

However, Brady no longer has the confidence in his legs he had before, he doesn't step into his deep throws nearly as well now compared to before. He is less mobile now and takes more sacks. He holds onto the ball longer. He doesn't rush at all now.

But he can be a great game manager. he can still make almost all the throws. And he is getting a lot of different types of receivers who can have an impact on offence.

i think Brady ends up with five Rings by the time he retires. without the injury he could have had more.

in league history

Still on pace to finish in the top 10 all time

This is a losing battle

Moss's legacy was set already

One of the all time greats

He didn't need Brady to get sick numbers

He had those already

Brady needed Moss to have all time great

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^didn't watch the 2004 super bowl

you don't need to discredit brady to big up moss. those dudes got their best numbers TOGETHER. and obviously a motivated moss makes any QB/passing game much better. but take a look at the offensive talent (receivers, TE, AND RB) brady has had BESIDES moss, and compare it to who peyton manning has had. before moss came to new england (welker and stallworth that year too), only vick and mcnabb had as weak offensive talent on their side of the ball out of all other elite quarterbacks as brady did.

new england's super bowl teams had great defense but they weren't a ravens type of defense, where all the quarterback had to do was not turn over the ball.

brady ain't no fucking game manager. he may not be montana, but he sure as shit ain't a stand in.

Would have easily crossed 4000 if they hadn't already clinched homefield throughout & sat him in the final game of the season, or even with that if T.O. hadn't gone down on a horse collar tackle in Week 9.

I mean Brady's a better quarterback than McNabb now & for career but let's try to keep it on target if you're gonna actually quote stats.

he posted dono's 2003 numbers as 2004, 2002 as 2003, etc. AND he posted Brady in the opposite way: brady's 2004 numbers he posted as 2003, etc.

My bad. The lesson here is don't smoke weed and then try to cut and paste stats to prove things on the Internet.

In my defense, McNabb still threw up on himself in the Super Bowl.

>i mean, it's all the way there in the stats.

actually it's not

http://www.databasefootball.com/players/playerpage.htm?ilkid=BRADYTOM01

http://www.databasefootball.com/players/playerpage.htm?ilkid=MCNABDON01

except for his first season with moss, brady's TD/INT have been generally the same. his yardage has been higher the past two seasons he played with moss but he went over 4000 before moss got there as well.

mcnabb has never thrown for more than 4000 yards.

so from these stats either they're BOTH fucking game managers with some good ass defenses (philly fans know better than to act like their defense of early decade wasn't beast) or they're quarterbacks who have had less than most for the better part of their careers and have been successful nonetheless.

>before 2004,
>when TO got there, Dono was an elite QB with the likes of
>James Thrash and Todd Pinkston. Brady was just a game

It's common sense that Moss and Brady made each other downright rediculous when playing together. But to say Brady is just a game manager without Moss is silly. The Patriots never had anyone close to an elite QB throughout the 2000s till Moss. Doesn't mean Brady's a game manager, it just means he knows how to deal with what he has. And to say Moss is not one of the greatest of all time is silly too. He's basically the best receiver to ever lace em up not named Jerry Rice. But I don't get the agenda on shitting on one or the other. Brady and Moss are both top 3 all time at their positions imo. Period.

acting like the patriots were winning shit with drew bledsoe.

acting like shit didn't change DRAMATICALLY with brady at the helm

acting like he NEEDED moss to win. moss is a once in a lifetime talent, but NOT a winner. look at his playoff performances, and you'll see some of the smallest showings for a player of his caliber.

acting like brady hasn't been playing with less than pro bowl caliber offensive skill players the overwhelming MAJORITY of his career

acting like cause he a pretty boy he can't get down to business

fuckouttahere. this game don't even prove shit. his career up to this point does.

it's going undefeated in super bowls, but also making epic throws at the most important moments. brady is nasty no doubt but his drives ended with FGs. Joe Cool's ended with touchdowns. and people like to be cute and forget he won two superbowls BEFORE jerry and dem showed up.

>but Brady does belong in the
>conversation when you start talking best ever.
agreed. Manning owns the regular season but I'd take Brady in a heartbeat all postseason LONG between the two, nevermind if i had one big game i needed to win.

Hmmmmm.... I peep it..

It's amazing how people used that same argument to discredit Emmitt Smith but I never really heard that many people using what you suggested above to discredit Montana...

Thank you for talking about it & proving that Emmitt was great because of his talent.

Same w/ Montana/Rice
Same w/ Brady/Moss

I always said that a perfect storm creates record breaking performances from great players. Brady before Moss was a game manager (although that might have been because of his personnel not his lack of talent). When Brady & Moss played together they broke records together. That can't happen unless BOTH players are great.

And when ppl are talking about Montana as a the GOAT, do they bring up Jerry Rice? When they're talking about Jerry Rice as the GOAT do they bring up Montana & Young?

That BS only comes up when talking about what Emmitt accomplished as if he had nothing to do with.

obvious double standards aside, there's a palpable difference imo between rallying your teammates, getting on them in a good way, and having a pissy freakout episode on them.

Brady began as one of the greatest examples of the former, and seems to have morphed into a repulsive version of the latter in recent times.

I admit that my spectator's perspective is far removed from the sideline/locker-room, and maybe my impression of what i saw is inaccurate, but there's no denying the fact that if we saw those same images with a player not named Tom Brady (especially a non-star, non-QB or black player -- Moss?), we surely wouldn't have been hearing how heroic it was.

I've never seen (and put me straight if I'm missing one) Brady getting his ass kicked and having to deal with the 'keep it close' gameplan getting demolished and he still finds a way to win.

With Joe, I can name many, but remember that game against Philly when he scored 28 in the 4th to beat them?

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/198909240phi.htm

They beat the shit out of him, sacked him around 8 times, and he still beat them.

And remember, this was a real deal defense with Reggie and them.

I'll take the 'L' for saying he'd probably go back to being a game manager type since he's clearly grown since then. I just don't think he could play in any era, which is what I think the Top 5 could do.

Ate an absurd amount of food while watching Brady manage the shit out of the game

watched Welker struggle yet again without Moss running 50 yard dashes at 3/4 speed each play

and just for the record lets get those Brady stats up here:

21/27 for 341 yds. 4 td's, zero INTs

and a very Garrard like rating of 158.3

But that really doesn't mean anything to me at this point. The man looks sharper than he has since the injury and is doing what he did pre-Moss, elevating solid receivers and getting the ball to all the right people. He needs Moss to set records, but he doesn't need him at all to lead the team to wins.

a) Tom Brady is clearly more than a game manager
without Randy Moss

b) To say that the Patriots were not a complete
juggernaut BECAUSE of Randy Moss is insane. That was
one of the 5 best NFL teams ever assembled and the
most potent offense in league history (the 2nd most
potent offense, of course, also featured Randy Moss, a
mathematical fact that everyone will forever ignore).

It took a perfect performance from the Giants and the
luckiest play in playoff history to beat them(BOTH the
evasion and the catch...the evasion from Eli might
have been crazier than the catch).

Obviously you don't *need* him to win.

But Brady and the Patriots were completely different
with him. They went 16-0 and were steamrolling people

The reason that team didn't win was because of DEFENSE.

Moss don't play defense.

Belichek is the "defensive wizard," so blame him.

So yes, Moss made Brady better.

Brady didn't make Moss better, because Moss did the
same thing with another offense as a ROOKIE (<--!!!!!)

they held the giants to 17 points. 14 came in the 4th quarter. That was a strong defensive performance. The giants scored fewer points only three times (once in england, that doesn't count, imo. those england games always suck).

the team just wasn't good enough to beat them that night. The Giants were just good enough to win.

moss was critical to being a beast of an offense. Brady was too. So was welker. Those three clearly were a perfectly formed trio that year. that's pretty much it.

edit: christ, moss didn't do anything like that before. he had 6 more TDs than ever before. He had the second most yards he ever had. That was a uniquely dominant year for Moss as well. this need to prop one of them up over the other is just dumb + makes people not appreciate how beautifully they both worked together and how impressive both as as individual players.

"balled out in San Fancsisco." Meanwhile, both guys combined for all of maybe 15 starts and had a lackluster rating in the limited time alotted. Point being, I don't think objectivity and facts are relevant to him - at least in this discussion...

It's funny how Moss apparrently turns Brady from a game manager (who somehow managed his way to win 3 SB titles w/o Moss and put up monster numbers the year the Pats beat my Eagles) into a game changer yet no mention is made of how Brady turns guys like Deion Branch and Wes Welker into pro-bowlers. It's 100% objective to say Brady has made Deion Branch once again look like a legit starting WR in the NFL. However, it's a completely foreign concept to the op that Brady *perhaps* was partially responsible for Moss's renaissance in NE. Also, it's not taken into account that Brady was vastly improving each season prior to Moss's arrival and was entering his prime. But of course, objectivity and perspective would be way too much to ask for....

And LOL at the thought of Moss being more of an offensive game changer than Joe Montana or Tom Brady. Now that is comedy.

LOL LOL

Might've been Welker's BEST SINGLE SEASON

Dumbass

Welker didn't need BRADY AT ALL. He was

Have you looked at Brady's numbers pre and post
Randy Moss?

Have you?

Have you looked at how absurd his numbers LEAPED?

Yes, you can say the same thing about Randy Moss,
but guess what?

Randy Moss ALREADY HAD single seasons which were
TOP 5 ALL TIME in touchdowns. BRADY NEVER DID
UNTIL MOSS GOT THERE.

^^^UNDENIABLE MATHEMATICAL FACT.

So, let's repeat:

Randy Moss has been the leading receiver on the two
HIGHEST SCORING OFFENSES OF ALL TIME who played damn

NOTHING.

Um. I'm talking about defensive schemes. Defenses rewired
their entire schemes to defend Jim Brown and have admittedly
done so against Randy Moss.

The same can't be said for a single QB, because QBs are
different.

Hell, Urlacher said that about MICHAEL VICK relative to
ANY QB...he said LITERALLY that Vick was the only QB that
they had to change their ENTIRE SCHEME FOR...every other
QB (including Manning and Brady) you just make sure you
do the basics well).

Its not debatable.

I think it's clear, and I was in denial until recently, that Moss is no longer Moss. I don't think he's even effective as a decoy anymore honestly. Admittedly Brady and Moss just weren't the same tandem, there was something not clicking, but since Moss has left he just looks like a journeyman WR.

While the offense definitely became more effective when switching gears after he was gone, it may have become more potent also. It was sorta predictable that The TEs and RBs would get better as they were relied up on more, but also now it looks like Welker has finally figured things out w/o him too. Branch's unexpected resurgence has certainly helped all of this though.

Like other people have said, they both made each other better. Moss wasn't doing much on the Raiders. Moss certainly had some GREAT seasons in minny, but neither of them would've broken the records w/o each other.

Well, not quite

Percy Harvin was playing his best football the
minute Moss got there, and Jaws broke down the
difference in coverages pre and post Moss to
explain it

So "journeyman" is extreme

But is he the same Moss from a few years ago?

Prolly not

Is that still one of the most feared deep threats
in the game?

You betcha

Welker was a good player in Miami. I know that
because I knew who he was pre NE, while none
of you did

But Moss definitely transformed him into superstar
quality

Like seriously -- do you honestly think Welker is
a MUCH better slot receiver than Percy Harvin?

Not much (and Harvin is a kid, and has lots to
learn)

If Harvin has a year to operate next to Moss, he's
putting up disgusting numbers too

>Like other people have said, they both made each other better.

Moss wasn't trying with the Raiders. He tried with the
Vikings, and was scoring 18 TDs as a rookie (one of the
best single seasons for a wide receiver).

Moss had already assaulted the WR record books (for TDs,
yds/reception) BEFORE Brady.

Brady wasn't assaulting any pure passing records
without Moss

Really not debatable

Somehow y'all think is is me shitting on Brady, which
I'm not

The nigga is illmatic steel with his

No hate, at all

I did know who Welker was, we played him twice a year. And no one (besides mcdeezjawns) is denying Moss' help. However, Welker is just now adjusting to life w/o Moss, and he's looking good.

They haven't tracked every play of every game going back to the early 90s, and formed constantly-improved analysis.

little known fact: the entire site exists to discredit Randy Moss.

Sorry that their metrics have a conclusion that doesn't fit your thesis.
