"Cowboy fans, can I rap to you cats for a taste? "
Wed Sep-15-10 02:46 PM by MALACHI

On March 5th 2009, right here in Okay Sports I denounced the Dallas Cowboys. I talked about Jerry something fierce. I was indignant due to the unwarranted, unjustified and quite possibly 'cism-laced cutting of one Terrell Owens. I'm pretty sure you cats remember when I dropped this:

http://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php?az=show_topic&forum=8&topic_id=1158415&mesg_id=1158415&listing_type=search#1158492

and this:

http://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php?az=show_topic&forum=8&topic_id=1158415&mesg_id=1158415&listing_type=search#1158587

On October 6th 2009, I reaffirmed my position with this reply to a Bombastic post:

http://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php?az=show_topic&forum=8&topic_id=1313676&mesg_id=1313676&listing_type=search#1314779

I didn't watch more than 10 minutes of a Cowboy game last season except for the first half of the playoff game against Philadelphia at bigpo's house. He was so mad that I was pulling for Philly, and we got into an argument that was so heated that both our wives, as well as everyone else present had to get us to calm down. That brother got like 6 inches from my face and yelled: "You dumb, ho-emotioned, ni**a, how you gon root AGAINST Dallas for cutting T.O., but you PULLING FOR Donavon and the Eagles who CUT THAT NI**A BEFORE DALLAS DID!!! Do you hear how STUPID you sound, ni**a? That's why you rooting for HOnavan, 'cause you got ho emotions just like that fool! I didn't want Dallas to cut T.O. either, but you over here CAUGHT FEELINGS about it! Ni**a PLEASE! GIVE ME THAT PLATE! Don't you eat nothing else at my house while you talking that dumb 'I ain't pulling for Dallas cause I got T.O.'s back' stuff..."

Anyway, I digress...here's the reason for this post: I can't even front...I miss watching and pulling for the Cowboys. Football season and the Cowboys have been part of my life since I was 5 years old. I miss watching the games with my comrades, and I missed rapping with y'all about the games afterwards. I missed posting MALACHI's GAME OBSERVATIONS in the Cowboy game posts. Heck, I even missed catching the hate from all the bammas on here who are jealous as all get out of Dallas' success but will never admit it.

So here it is...can a brother like MALACHI get embraced again by the Dallas Cowboy faithful here on okayplayer? Dstl1...rob...Pinko Panther...organ...LegacyNS...bigpo...and anyone I missed, can a brother come back home? I feel like the prodigal son out here.

Oh, a couple of more things:
1. I hope y'all realize that this ain't jumping on no bandwagon, because after what I saw Sunday night, wishing for an 8-8 season is HIGHLY optomistic.

2. This is specifically for bigpo...my dropping the Cowboys was a stance based on PRINCIPLE. Me COMING BACK is the emotional move...

Get at me...

from most of those folks just based off that & years invested alone.

Plus the fact that you're hopping in right now in the obvious 'overhyped' year in which Super Bowl dreams end in Bum's Son finally getting fired after a dissapointing season shows character.

If the Cowboys underachieve, heads are going to roll. It shouldn't be just Wade though...Garrett needs to go as well. His play-calling SUCKS.

The D has been very good since the 5th game 2 years ago. (i know the last game in philly a few years back) but that was the offense too. They constantly put the d in bad situations.

The red head genius is the problem.

head coach issues.

End of game he was like the Bizarro Andy Reid with holding all those timeouts untilt there's six seconds left.

I think he still even had one left at the end, which is unforgiveable.

End of the half head coach is the one who has to say 'sit on this' instead of trying to run a play there.

Wade looks lifeless on that sideline, he's a solid defensive coordinator but lacking as a head coach.

if the Boys flame out this year that an outside coach gets brought in and he picks his OC.

But then again that would make sense, which Jerry doesn't always do.

Besides he should be happy for TO. I started lookin at it like this. Dallas aint win without him, and he got about 10 extra million because of the release. TO won.

blind belief?

>to earn his way back. He cant comeback claimin strong cause
>he sees the making of andre johnson 2.0 in blue in silver.

After one game, Bryant looks like he's going to be a really good receiver, and he sounds like he wants to win. But "Andre Johnson 2.0"? That is WILDLY premature.

By the way, oh expert of all Cowboy fandom, how would I earn my way back?

2 stupid plays to end the half cost us 14 points plus the O-line is not very effective with Barron. However, I'm not guaranteeing anything. We could be a double digit win or loss team. We'll just have to wait and see.

It all starts with the O-line, and they weren't impressive at all. Defense did look good. Miles looked really good, and Dez Bryant showed some promise. (How did that bamma get 88? Is Michael Irvin cool with that?) They looked like the mentally weak, undisciplined Cowboys of the past several years. Not seeing a huge difference.

the drafting, defense, player dev, and general game management have all been strengths. the free agent shit has been on point at every position except db.

the only things i would change about the franchise right now are

1) not being a shitty o.c., especially in the red zone, jason garrett.

2) more aggressive trading (we would have been fine had we let go of bennett and a back earlier and we could have done damn better that what we got for crayton with better timing)

but i feel like we also get B-/C+ in those departments, so i'd be hesitant to mess with them.

that being said, this ain't personal, he's an old injury-prone QB going into the last year of his contract on the youngest roster in the league.

It was time to flip him for a couple picks & reboot. If he had went to Seattle, San Fran or even Oakland I would have wished him well.

Since he's a Skin, I'll root for his failure like I do anyone there, although I did enjoy McNabb beating the Cowboys again without having to even generate a single TD.

That had me looking like this at the end of both halves: http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2009/1014/nfl_a_mcnabb1_576.jpg

It's so heartenwarming how all these Cowboy/Giant/Skins fans were talking shit on McNabb for the past half decade but now wanna act like they got his back & dude got a raw deal.

That shit will never cease being hilarious to me, same with the Wilbon types in the national media acting like we should have built this guy a statue.

that he just doesn't seem have the seriousness that Aikman had about the nature of his position. How many times have you heard rumors about him not working hard in practice? I think his psychology is jacked up. Here he is, an undrafted free agent, who got to play with reckless abandon and just "have fun" because he really, he had nothing to lose. He could take risks because really, there were no expectations on him and he had the compensation factor of one of the greatest receivers that ever put on a jersey. Now his rich beyond his wildest dreams, he's scoring quality tail without even trying, and he is a celebrity...in his mind, whether the team wins a Super Bowl or not, HE HAS ALREADY WON.

1) i don't understand why you would characterize him as obviously disloyal.

2) i'm not sure if it's fair to say he doesn't take qb seriously, but i definitely think you build up a theory of how his head works that isn't necessarily true. again, you missed last season, when he balled out. and he had a good game and excellent final series on sunday. being jerry rice or peyton manning are not the only ways out there to win. and we're not getting a peyton manning at qb unless we get a top 5 pick and are wise with it.

remember the qbs between aikman and romo? i'll take romo. and don't think romo with the 90s cowboys lines and 22 wouldn't have rings. he definitely would have.

In response to Reply # 0

T.O. may not have been a true Cowboy, but I felt like they overplayed the "drama" he brought to the team, unlike the other places he's been. Outside of the Philly disaster, he really hasn't done anything to warrant the attention and/or the hate, but his reputation precedes him.

now you know, I hate your team... but I think y'all got a lot to be happy about. T.O. isn't there, but y'all got 2 youngsters in A-Rod Jr. (Austin) and The New Coke (Dez) that look like they'll be pissing me off for years. Romo, his "son of Favre" habits or not, is the only real QB y'all have had for a while. Your defense, while overrated sometimes, is a cut above the comedy of errors it's been in the past 10 years, even with a roody-poo like Brooking being the "anchor".

sometimes, we as fans are faced with things that just make us question our loyalty.

for me as an Eagle fan, while I've gotten over the shit that the McNabb era ended up going to, things like the recent nonsense with Stewart Bradley, and the mishandling/overhype of Kevin Kolb have me in a less-than-perfect place to root.

other Eagle fans are just going apeshit crazy over Vick even being on the squad, still. and some are still mad over the disappointment that the T.O. tour of duty in Philly ended up being.

Vikings fans are probably still trying to digest accepting Brett Favre as their QB.

some Steelers fans aren't in a hurry to see Ben return to the QB position.

and then there's just the nature of the business of the NFL in general. The recent struggle between players and owners is just one chapter in the many things that are messed up about the sport.

... but man, that conflict with bigpo is kinda too "real" for TV. LOL.

good thing that the Cowboys fans here are generally a rational, amiable bunch. which is kinda funny, just like the fans of Boston teams here. OKP is like Opposite World for real life.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

they got rid of t.o. because he cost money and thought he was getting in the way of the coach, romo, and the other wr's development. i didn't agree with it, but shit happens. ain't any different than getting rid of flo or anthony henry or whoever.

jason witten had one of the best seasons of his career last year and the year before that. only thing that was different was the tds, which, in and of themselves, ain't shit but fantasy stats.

our wr corps right now is damb good, and the only one making too much money is roy (who is a damn fine #3 if he sticks around). miles and dez look every bit a dominant 1 and 2 so far.

we're definitely better off than we would have been had we kept the dude. they rolled the dice and won.

Because of the way they restructured his deal, they actually lost cap space and paid a considerable amount of money just to get rid of him.

Cutting T.O. still bothers me...especially when I see the uselessness of Roy Williams.

Absolute truth.

>dallas is weak again and about to fall off again imo
>dumb moves like getting roy, signing unproven miles austin,
I can't ride with you about Miles being "unproven". Miles has shown that he is a force to be reckoned with. Shoot, T.O. told me himself at the Dragonfly lounge at Hotel ZaZa here in Dallas that Miles Austin was going to be a beast...looks like he was right.

>getting rid of gillie da kid (crayton), the running backs

You know what...Crayton DOES look like Gillie da Kid...

Defense isn't overrated...they just choose the wrong times to have lapses.

Lets clear the past up, though. As rob mentions in another post,
the team gambled on cutting TO and actually won with the current
WR situation we have now. So, I can forgive the move in retrospect.
Anyway, I wish the man well in Cincy.

LOL!! Honestly, bigpo told it to you straight. McNabb was the
orignal traitor to TO and its pretty bad that you felt that
cheering for the Eagles was the proper outlet of protest against
what Jerry Jones did to TO. That's like romanticizing Reagan
because you don't like Bush. In any case, I think J.J. has a
better grip over the team than a lot of fans give him credit
for. He wants the team to win a championship as much as anyone
else, and I believe this despite his wealthy right-wing oil
tycoon persona.

Yo! I missed those clear and thoughtfully written observations
last year. So, you can only come back under the condition that
these blog-like posts make a return.

>bandwagon, because after what I saw Sunday night, wishing for
>an 8-8 season is HIGHLY optomistic.

A)Its not bandwagon jumping, I just understand that you lost
your mind for an entire season.

B)I still think we got 10+ wins in us. Colombo and Kosier are
practicing with the team again, meaning Holland and Barron won't
be seeing much more action for the rest of the year (barring
another injury). Romo, last game, looked as good as any starting
QB in the league with the limited amount of time he had in the
pocket (you know, less mobile top 5 QBs wouldn't survive with
that o-line). Our receivers are looking great! Plus, with a
healthy starting o-line, Witten will be freed up to run more
intermediate routes rather than being held back to help the
line block. Running backs will be just fine behind a healthy
o-line as well. The defense speaks for itself -one of the best
in the league!

>2. This is specifically for bigpo...my dropping the Cowboys

it looked like to me that there was a conspiracy to silence
an(other) outspoken black athlete. In this case, an outspoken Black athlete whose personal performance caused Romo to get all types of accolades and made Garrett look like a genius (the truth is now coming out), and these were the main ones who ran him out of town. I thought that was disgustingly disloyal, especially Romo after the T.O. crying for him on television incident. Everyone was screaming for his head and T.O. publicly got his back. I said in that post last year that the Romo / T.O. situation was almost a microcosm of Mexican / Black relations in Texas and California. The socio-political element was WAAAY deeper in Dallas than in Philly. PRINCIPLE.

My emotionalism came into the situation when I got to missing Cowboy football. Then I got to plea-copping to myself..."well T.O. still has a lot of friends on the Cowboys"..."Look at T.O. on his show, chasing White women left and right like he's Jack Johnson, why I'm a riding for THIS cat?"...

I don't see what's so hard to understand...

I hear all that, but I still think Miles would be lost in
obscurity if TO was still here, unfortunately. Also, I don't
think we'd have made such aggressive moves in the draft to
get Dez either. So, in essence, cutting TO kind of lit a
fire under our asses to prevent us from stagnating at the
WR position.

Where was that principle when they pulled quincy for chutch so a fat tongued black dude wouldnt be handing the ball off to Deuce Deuce for the all time rushing record. You was still down then. That wasnt principle, that was TO love, and I feel ya, cause I love TO (let me say I love him a lil' less since I found out he was insecure about being dark but thats another story), and I still defend him from his unfair blame on a cowboys message board. Im pullin for the bengals in the AFC cause of that fool.

Like I said before, I was a cowboy fan before TO. I was a cowboy fan before Jerry. You know me. I would listen to every game on the radio when it was blacked out. You remember me jumpin up and down when michael downs deflected the ball in the endzone against washington, happy because we won 1 dang game. I hated TO left, I hate he got blamed, and I wanted him to clown in buffalo, but I dont root against blue and silver. EVER!!!

I wanted Quincy to succeed in Dallas, but as much as I wanted a Black QB in Dallas to be at the helm of the Cowboys, I have to admit that Quincy's play was shaky as a bowl of Jell-O being held by Muhammad Ali during an earthquake. When Quincy was pulled in favor of C-Hutch, through 7 games he had thrown 7 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, and had fumbled 5 times, three of which were recovered by the other squad. Was there some 'cism in the situation for the reason that you mention above? Maybe...I don't put anything past "culture seeds", but you have to admit that Q's subpar more than covered any 'cism that may have existed. What I'm saying is this: if you look at the FOOTBALL decision of pulling Quincy, I could't argue it and you can't argue it either. Nobody knew CHutch was going to suck as bad if not worse than Quincy. What I do remember too is Quincy GOING OFF on Jerry on the sidelines of the game before...I think it was against the Cardinals for some reason. I was shocked he just got benched instead of cut honestly.

T.O. was a top-level receiver when he got cut. His PLAY had nothing to do with it. It was a clear-cut case of White boys and a Mexican trying to demonize a Black dude for having the audacity to question them...even if it was privately down. Forget the fact that after practice was over every day, T.O. (With Michael Irvin watching and offering technique advice) was out there with Isaiah Stanback, Miles Austin, Sam Hurd and whatever other young receivers running routes and trying to get better. It was a classis example of "Get that overachieving, hard-working, leadership-having, opinion-stating, attention-getting ni**er out of here!"

after years of exile. And if he was soooooo bad, why they start that fool again after that. CISM, you see it.

TO was a better player than Quincy, no doubt, but it was behind very similar situations. Quincy wouldnt say he was in qb comp with the old man, and TO, who knows what he did, but in both cases it was 2 cocky dark niggas that didnt know there place.

that be all they needed to cut Quincy. If 'cism existed, (which I'm not discounting) he gave them all the ammunition, on and off the field, to cut him. Bear in mind, he failed ***TWO*** drug tests. Cowboys were still trying to live down the drug imbroglios of the 90's...Irvin's arrest, Mark Stepnoski saying he smoked weed throughout his whole cowboy career, Mark Tuinei's drug-related death, etc...for PR reasons that had to let QCar go...ESPECIALLY when the cat wasn't playing at a high level.

Quincy was cocky? When? Was he salty about them signing Testaverde? I think he was...but the way you fix that situation is NOT to go get blazed...

probably the most entertaining thing you'll ever experience. That cat gets geared up: usually an authentic TNew "away" jersey, a Cowboys fitted cap, and blue bandanas...cat be looking like a Rolling Sixties Crip.

He generally is fondling a football the whole time, yelling at the TV like the players and coaches can hear him...no matter if something good or bad happens: "...Garret! You are an IDIOT!...YES DEMARCUS! They can't stop you, my ni**a!...ROMO! Will you quit being so careless with the freakin' ball?!?...DEFENSE! Can y'all step up?! DeMarcus can't do everything by hisself! It's 3RD and LONG and y'all giving up the butt! Y'all the most HEARTLESS ni**as I've ever seen IN MY LIFE!

And if his kids or my kids walk in front of the TV, that cat be about ready to SNAP...we be bout to call Child Protective Services on that cat...

I did too. Couldn't stand him when they first signed him. Still had issues with him and The Star Incident. But he's a charming fellow. And he wept for Tony. And even after being cut he never really spoke ill of Dallas. He's treated like a pariah when the likes of Big Ben and Favre are treated as "complex" which is totally unfair. So I'll always root for him to succeed.

But I'll always support Dallas. Can't imagine how bad things must have got in your head to make you disown your heritage like that! Glad you're coming back to the light.

Two constants in my life that will never change and were handed down to me as a wee youngin: The Young & The Restless and Dallas Cowboys football. lol
