but to me he's a wideout playing out of position, that being said I'm sure he'll be way better this year than he was as a FROSH. I just hate his delivery/projection on the ball. It's always going in a downward motion on anything outside of a deep ball.

and say no.

Pryor is a beast of an athlete. Sure he has some janky throwing motions but he is also just starting his second year. And if Tressel actually maximized his talents, he'd even more impressive.

That being said, the one way i can compare Forcier to Pryor is their surprising level of poise/confidence as freshman.

Still tho. Come on. Dude played one game. Against western michigan.

His accuracy and scrambling abilities caught my attention... let's see what he can do against ND. I appreciate the unmitigated swag of this post, but let's just put it on ice till we see more game action from the kid.

I'm curious to see how they play against two great WR's in Michael Floyd and Golden Tate. As much as everyone loves to hate Jimmy Claussen, I think he's poised for a big year.

This game just got a whole lot more interesting after the opening day beatdowns they both dished out.

this went from being a toilet bowl matchup to one of the marquee games of the weekend in one day.

jimmy clausen has one of those faces you just want to punch the shit out of. i hope to god UM can pull this out and just silence any ND title game talk before it starts gaining momentum (which ESPN already has)

I haven't been able to follow the season closely cept looking at boxscores and some articles. I'm overseas right now and don't have access to espn but are they really hyping ND up on some championship shit?

To clarify, I'm a Michigan fan and I hate ND.

from espn's college gameday final blog:

too early to "pencil them in" LOL.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/notebook?page=notebook/gamedayFinal091

1. It's too early to pencil Notre Dame into the BCS Championship Game, but it was hard not to be impressed by the Fighting Irish's 35-0 rout of Nevada. Quarterback Jimmy Clausen was terrific, and Michael Floyd is a legitimate superstar. Even more impressive was the job Jon Tenuta's defense did against Wolf Pack quarterback Colin Kaepernick. We'll know how good the Irish are after stiff tests against Michigan and Michigan State the next two weeks.

Not to mention, they had two commentators (granted one being a senile lou holtz) who predicted a ND title game birth

"Forcier didn't have much time to get in trouble while he was growing up because his schedule was packed with activities to make him a better QB.

"His daily regime was wake up at 6 o'clock in the morning, grab a protein shake, go run, come back, go to school," said Michigan quarterbacks coach Rod Smith, who recruited Forcier. "Then, he'd go get a workout with a private instructor, a quarterback coach so to speak, then do some homework and practice. That was his daily grind."

http://www.theonion.com/content/infograph/how_will_michigan_rebound_in

How Will Michigan Rebound In 2009?

Following a terrible 3-9 outing in 2008, Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez desperately needs the football team to win in 2009. What are the Wolverines doing to improve?

* No longer complaining that the blue-colored jerseys are too heavy
* Really hoping true freshman quarterback Tate Forcier hits that growth spurt before the first game
* Making sure to call roster filled with mediocre players "depth"
* Praying no one notices games scheduled against Ohio Tech and Nichigan State
* No more sundae bar on sidelines
* Have stopped recruiting guys just because they like the name Brandon
* To build confidence and provide core strength, permitting players to have knees on ground for push-ups
* Just keep in mind that the Champs Sports Bowl is a good bowl, too, okay?
* Senior punter Zoltan Mesko needs to keep doin' his thang
* No matter what, don't lose to Michigan, because they're a decrepit has-been shell of—oh right

true. he ain't exactly an 'asiatic warrior'. just another overhyped QB with no coaching and even lesser heart. shit is disgusting.

Lebron couldn't win a chip without two superstars from his draft class. He didn't just need help. The nigga needed the cheat code to enable god mode.(c)Kira

I didn't think there could be a worse QB than Reggie Ball, but lo and behold, G.T. managed to find one worse.

Pryor is a true sophomore who had one bad game versus a fast and tough defense.

Keep talking though, more fodder for "egg on your face uppage" down the line.

if you had you would have seen nesbitt come up with more than 100 yards of total offense on his last two drives, leading Tech to two scores and a come from behind win

nice try tho

EDIT: one bad game? point to one GOOD game. Forcier had more total offense in his second game in the maize and blue than pryor has had in any game he's played. Forcier 240 yds on 23/33, 70 yds rushing, 3 total TD's in a come from behind win over a ranked oppponent. Pryor has nothing to compare that to, and the numbers cannot be denied.

Yea, he came up big in the end, but I'm not impressed with his arm or his pocket presence. It's a good thing yall run the option and have two stud runningbacks to lean on.

Pryor had good games last year vs Illinois, Wisconsin (a game winning drive btw), NW, Minnesota, Michigan, and Michigan State, all with a TERRIBLE o line.

You have a very selective memory.

So you just feel like he doesn't have IT in him? Like he completely ran over guys in high school and was the man there but then came to college, having 2 Prime Times Schools (maybe more) vying for his signature and thought he could just come into college and do the same? just run shit right? and come to find out he can't and how he just doesn't have it in him?>

2004 triple OT against state and 2005 PSU are up there.

But this shit was nuts. I've never heard the stadium so loud. I didn't think the new box additions would have such an effect on the acoustics. Having music piped in sounds dumb as fuck but when you are actually there it's pretty hype.

As for Forcier: amazing game. Remarkable poise and clutch play after clutch play.

At the end of the season when we compare their freshman stats, I wouldn't be surprised if the title of this post turned out to be true. Not so much an judgement on TP's ability/skills as much as it is an indictment of Tressel's hackjob coaching skills.

Of course I managed to go to a game where Michael Hart and Chad Henne were injured. Still awesome to be there and see it, Manningham had a long TD and Carlos Brown ripped off an 85-yarder in that one too.

I can't wait to fucking get out there again, especially because it seems like it really is louder now with the luxury boxes.

I'm kinda looking forward to a Big House with some decent crowd noise this November. Although it's going to get quiet once the ass whooping commenceth, but I'm curious as to how much louder it'll be compared to years past.

and I'll be laughing in November when Pryor is ripping through the Big 10 and looking down at everyone else.

No one said a peep about Tressel's offense in 2006 when we lined up 3 and 4 wide in every single set, and while Smith was throwing 30+ TDs. Pryor will get to that level eventually. Lucky for all of you, he's still got 22 games (minimum) before he can go play on Sundays.

It's kinda cool to see Michigan fans get a little swagger back. Please don't lose before November though, I want this game to mean something before we come into Ann Arbor and make it 6 in a row.

touche, I never said anything about a big OOC opponent. Some serious changes have to made on the offensive side for that. The Big 10 is still ours though, at least I can take solace in that.

this defense (the one that knocked Clark the fuck out last year) is even more stout this year. We just held an offense that's much better than yours to 18 points. You guys cant even run the ball against Akron and Syracuse. What makes you think you're gonna do anything vs us?

>we'll be ranked in the Top 10,

You're ranked in the top 10 now, please dont do anything to fuck that up.

>which means Tressel will waive
>the white flag as soon as he crosses the border.

The same border that he crosses to steal your top talent every year? Yea, I'm sure he's shook of a 90 year old vegetable and a slow plodding QB with no WRs.

undefeated UF and Alabama are more deserving of a NC bid than an undefeated Penn State team.

you guys will end up sitting on the outside looking in. its a given.

>We just held an offense
>that's much better than yours to 18 points.

im loving how these delusional crackpots are taking a last-minute loss to USC(you know, that team with with the best talent year in year out, and the team that thrashed PSU last year)...and taking that to mean that somehow, in some roundabout, moronic logic that anything is different for the rest of the big 10 as of today. that somehow michigan and PSU are in a better spot than they were last year, 2 years ago, or 3 years ago to overtake the thrown.

the only thing that saturday showed was that every other squad in the big 10 is more fucked than ever as our talent has been significantly upgraded.

everyone can have fun trying to score on this defense. you didnt last year and you wont this year.

Doesn't matter. He isn't as good as McKnight, and your offensive line isnt nearly as good as USC's.

edit..LOL @ Royster only getting 41 yards vs Syracuse, and 61 vs Akron.

but sorry if im not ready to throw a true soph under the bus who had a bad game against a better FARRRR better defense than he'll see all year.

comparing the ND defense to SC is apples and oranges, especially at the defensive end at the stick.

and yall act like we've never had issues at qb before...shit, todd boeckman went into AA 2 years ago and threw for like 8 yards and we still won decisively. thats the whole point, we've never been an offensive dynamo (save for parts of 2006) yet its never prevented us from beating up on michigan.

furthermore, nobody in the big 10 has shown that we need stellar qb play in order to beat them. if we wanna beat the elite schools of the world, of course pryor will need to grow quite a bit.

No, the defense running through the best o-line in the country and shutting down those WR's is a confidence booster. Considering this USC team is leaps and bounds better than any team we face on the schedule, I'm not worried about the usual Big 10 cupcakes this year. Besides our offense can't possibly get worst than it did on Saturday.

You missed the point. Everyone talking about Tressel's inability to develop a quarterback is forgetting that Troy Smith came in as an "athlete" and didn't really put it together until his jr and senior years. You don't think Tressel can achieve the same results with an even more talented QB and more talent surrounding him at the skill positions? The point is, he's a true sophomore and its way too early to write him off. Lol, make sure you're around in a year so you can eat crow.

True, but this Forcier>Pryor shit will be deaded when he runs for 100+ and throws all over Michigan.

Next year, with Pryor as a Jr, in the Horseshoe? with another top 5 recruiting class coming in?

Lol.

no, YOU missed the point. its not about tressel. its about the fact that maybe pryor from jump street wasnt what he was supposed to be. pryor does not deserve comparison to a special player like troy smith. i watched him rip Michigan's hearts out 3 years in a row. teams like 2004 and 2006 michigan, where winning was a real accomplishment.

hes only run for more than 100 yards once against illinois last year. why would he all of the sudden do it against a good team?

No you're still not getting it. I clearly stated that writing him off as a TRUE SOPHOMORE is stupid. He still needs work with his throwing and footwork, but he'll get there.

Lmao, Michigan is a good team now? that defense is still TERRIBLE, and you played two teams with bad defenses. Michigan is off to a good start, but don't get ahead of yourselves.

Yes, two wins vs WMU + Notre Dame compared to a win vs Navy and a loss to USC is fair comparison to go by.

im not sold that michigan's defense is terrible. notre dame scoring 34 points was more about Mike Floyd, Kyle Rudolph and Golden Tate than anything else

im going by rich rodriguez's body of work with qbs and year to year improvements and the fact that pryor is still the "same as it ever was" (c) styles of beyond. the first two weeks were just hints in that direction

I don't see it. His throwing mechanics have improved big time. A lot of his incompletions on Saturday seemed to be more of mis-communication than lack of reading coverages, and arm strength. Last year he was constantly having to improvise because of the dog shit offensive line. I'm not worried about Pryor at all.

>im not sold that michigan's defense is terrible. notre dame
>scoring 34 points was more about Mike Floyd, Kyle Rudolph and

and Armando Allen.

There wasn't much of a pass rush, which was the reason Clausen was able to air it out. Plus like you said, you're thin at secondary. The defense doesn't look as bad as it did last year, I admit. But its far from decent, let alone good.

>im going by rich rodriguez's body of work with qbs and year to

Which is why I mentioned Tressel/Troy Smith. Troy clearly became a better quarterback with each season under his belt under JT's tutelage. Pryor didn't even have the luxury of redshirting. He's still learning, but he'll be fine.

And that may very well be on talent and it's obviously coached better.

Right today, Jimmah is more ready to be an effective college QB than Pryor, and Floyd and Tate are definitely better than any Buckeye receivers (Dez Bryant might be the only receiver better than Floyd in the country). I think Herron should be better than Allen but I haven't seen that from him yet. Considering where your line was last year, good chance ND is better there too right now.

So frankly, I don't see how tUoOS can put up points on Michigan like that this year. The Buckeye defense will be the reason you probably beat us.

Talent wise, I'd say we're even. A top 5 class is a top 5 class.

definitely, he's also a Junior.

and Floyd and Tate are definitely better than
>any Buckeye receivers (Dez Bryant might be the only receiver

I'd take Julio Jones and Rejus Benn over Floyd, as long as their quarterbacks didn't come with them.

I think Herron should be
>better than Allen but I haven't seen that from him yet.
>Considering where your line was last year, good chance ND is

Yup, but we're also starting a bunch of guys in new positions in addition to a freshman. They did very well vs that USC d-line which is 10x better than Notre Dame's.

>So frankly, I don't see how tUoOS can put up points on
>Michigan like that this year. The Buckeye defense will be the

With the offense we fielded on Saturday, definitely not. But it's only September, and I think (and hope) this offense will look much better as the season progresses.

There is not a single offense in the Big 10 that can handle this defense. Whether its the D-line, LB's or corners.

agree with this. but i like our receiving corps just fine. theyre young and will do big things before they leave.

they played pretty well against SC and will only get better...again, another young unit.

>So frankly, I don't see how tUoOS can put up points on

as shitty as it looked the other night, our offense is FAR better than it was at the same time last year. we had a few games last year where we didnt score TD's or attempt more than 12 passes.

i think comparing UM to OSU and making bold predictions after one squad played Navy and SC while another played WMU and ND is a major reach.

I can't believe this post has over 100 replies. Playing up the rivalry doesn't mean we gotta be on some stupid shit. It's OK to talk about football without innuendo. Let's see Tate play out the rest of the season and see how he continues to manage games, especially the ones with supposed push-over teams, to see how consistent he is before we start declaring saviors.

and contrasts Dick Rod's handling of Forcier

Choice quotes

"There's no sugar-coating this: Jim Tressel and his staff were outcoached against Southern Cal and Pete Carroll, . Again. Particularly on offense, Ohio State's gameplan against the Trojans was utter rubbish, and it failed to meet the number one requirement of every gameplan: put your players in position to succeed."

"He is not good enough of a tactician to win against the national elite who, unlike practically everyone he schemes against in his conference, have the talent to match Ohio State's, and those are the only games where coaching really matters. With his facilities, talent, and resources, winning the Big Ten is not the test.
Look at the numbers. Ohio State's failure to beat a quality opponent since defeating Michigan to punch a ticket to the national championship game in 2006, Tressel's teams have been outclassed, outsmarted, outplayed and outprepared in every big game they've played."

"Indeed, the overrated Senator Sweatervest essentially gave away one of his most important tactical advantages by not understanding the concept of constraint plays. Routinely, the Buckeyes lined up with two or three receivers. USC managed to play their preferred two-deep defense much of the game, which should have meant that OSU had a favorable box to run in. Except OSU forgot to make USC care whether it had its receivers split out.

"USC literally lined no one up over the slot receivers, and yet not once did Tressel instruct Pryor to immediately take the snap and throw the bubble screen. For most teams this is an automatic check or sight-adjustment, and it is by no means difficult (every high school runs it)."

"Indeed, compare Tressel's use of Pryor with Rich Rodriguez's use of freshman quarterback Tate Forcier. Against Notre Dame, Michigan had some issues with Notre Dame trying to gum up its zone reads by crashing the defensive end to always take the running back while a linebacker would "scrape" to take the quarterback -- a common defensive adjustment to the zone read. To counteract this, Rodriguez would line up with an H-back who would run counter to the direction the play was to go and simply block that defensive end, thus opening the hole for the running back. See the image below, which is from Michigan's game against Western Michigan, but the alignment is the same the Wolverines used Saturday against the Irish."

"Jim Tressel is a dinosaur, and like all dinosaurs, not like for this world. And if I was the multi-talented Terrelle Pryor, stuck in the straitjacket of the OSU offense, I'd be thinking long and hard about where I might transfer to."

this analogy makes no sense whatsoever.

when tressel starts getting his ass handed to him by his rival, cant recruit his own state or grab elite out of state talent, no longer sends guys to the nfl in droves, and loses to DII and MAC level teams, then they can start making comparisons.

Trust me.

The only question is, will he hire someone to whom he doesn't have ties to? I was hearing Walt Harris' name come up all summer, but nothing happened. This is Bollman's last year though, that much I do know.

whats bollman's retirement gonna do? he doesnt call the plays.

walt harris had been around as a consultant of sorts for the past couple of years. he's a coach at akron now. if they were gonna hire harris they wouldve done it awhile ago.

i wish u were right but i dont see anything changing. maybe something minor, promoting some friend of tressel into bollman's place, but if the same person is calling the plays then it doesnt really matter much.

But you're right, all offensive strategies and decisions go through Tressel.

ANYTHING other than Bollman would be a step up though.

Gene Smith and Tressel came under ALOT of fire this past off season from influential 'Presidential Club' type alumni, and from what I hear they were quite adamant about Tressel and bringing an outside person to take the reins of this offense.

If offered,Harris would jump at the chance of becoming an Ohio State o-coordinator. I'm sure you remember the Hoying days, and how prolific the passing attack was then with Glenn, and Dudley etc. I think it would be a good fit, but we'll see. I just know that Bollman's days are coming to an end, and that's a start.

so ill take the ill believe it when i see it approach.

tressel will be more hesitant to change then ever, because our talent is good enough to win the occaisonal big game despite of handcuffing ourselves.

as craptastic as our offense was against SC, we were one play away from winning that game. and id bet my ass thats the way tressel looks at it. one less interception and one better executed play and we win. he's not gonna look at it like the rest of us, that it couldve/shouldve been a comfortable two touchdown win without playing like total pussies on offense.

That's what I was worried about with this game, that the crowd would be made up of old people and not enough students/ middle aged folks, but I was dead wrong.

Last saturday was THE loudest I've ever witnessed it. I think it'll be louder next year when we get Miami though, lol.

since he's won a chip fairly recently (like Tressel, Stoops, Brown & Miles) but he had a lot of success @ MSU prior to winning that chip @ LSU & has now taken Bama to top ten status.

If Tressel had won either of those 2 recent BCS Championships, he'd be right there at the top. However, he lost the last 2 title games so while you definitely get some credit for getting there you can't be elite when you get thrashed twice.

And yes I know Carroll lost to Mack Brown but that was an EXTREMELY close game that could have gone either way. Even with that loss, USC has a pretty good track record against top programs & has had quite a run which is enough to overcome one close loss in my opinion.

Forget about the opponents they lost to and instead frame the comparison on a broader context:

-Both coaches rode the coattails of early success (national championships early in their tenures)

-Both coaches would suffer losses to quality non-Big 10 opponents (OSU to USC, Michigan to the likes of UCLA, Oregon, USC, etc.... << granted, OSU has lost to decidedly better competition)

-Both coaches would save face by producing consistently within the conference (for Lloyd, this began to dissipate in his later years and ultimately spelled his ouster)

-As their initial success wore off, both coaches increasingly became targets of their fanbase and the national media for running antiquated, and overly conservative offensive systems. The end result: both coaches squandered elite recruiting classes by failing to evolve with the times.

Granted, there are still significant differences between the two. For instance, Tressel doesn't have an App State skid mark on his resume yet. But they were damn close with a catastrophic loss to Navy at home. Another point of difference is Tressel's complete stranglehold on UM. Also, while he has failed to deliver in big games he, unlike Carr, has yet to show cracks in his ability to dominate the Big 10.

HOWEVER, the cracks are beginning to show, and if you dispute this you are just lying to yourself. Is sweater vest doomed? Of course not, not by any stretch of the imagination. But he had better start addressing some of the glaring deficiencies of his coaching methods before this comparison transforms from aimless messageboard conjecture to an all too real future of unemployment. If a storied, titan of a program like Michigan is willing to roll the dice after decades of a certain brand of football and hire a renegade wildcard like Rich Rod, then OSU might not be far behind.

trips to 4 straight BCS bowls, 2 of them being NC games would imply recent success, and awful lot of $$ being driven into the school.

>became targets of their fanbase

people still love tress though...nobody wants him fired.

>The end result: both coaches squandered elite recruiting

3 BCS games in the past 3 years. tressel hasnt squandered shit, unless the goal is NC or bust, which it isnt at OSU, much to the chagrin of fans like myself who want to go undefeated every year.

> But they were damn close with a
>catastrophic loss to Navy at home.

firstly, navy isnt app st...theyre a bowl team.

secondly, there was nothing unusual about that game for OSU...playing down to competition and coming away with a narrow victory in what should have been a laugher. OSU been doing that for 8 years now...lets not turn that navy game into something bigger than it really was.

>Another point of difference
>is Tressel's complete stranglehold on UM.

ya, kindve an important point there.

>
>HOWEVER, the cracks are beginning to show, and if you dispute

we lost to SC in a nail biter. what cracks in his ability to dominate the big ten did that show? they won at least a share of the big 10 title the past 4 years and 7 out of 8 from UM. where are these cracks again?

>If a storied, titan of a program like Michigan

right, im sure they'll take a coach thats been enormously succesful and is revered in the state of ohio by the people and HS football coaches alike (not to mention out of state coaches too), a guy that runs a clean program and keeps his players out of trouble...and trade him in for some coach du jour with a sketchy past. keep dreaming. tressel will leave on his own terms and name his successor.

170. "Cracks beginning to show: Tressel under fire after loss (swipe)"
In response to Reply # 165

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/ncaa/09/15/tressel-fans.ap/index.html

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- With a growing chorus of fans questioning his playcalling and others doubting his ability to win a big game, Jim Tressel was asked if his honeymoon as Ohio State's head coach was over.

"You felt like it's been a nine-year honeymoon?" he repeated on Tuesday. "You must not have liked your honeymoon."

For the first time in his tenure in Columbus, Tressel is catching fire from all directions in the wake of Saturday night's 18-15 loss to No. 3 Southern California.

It was the 11th-ranked Buckeyes' sixth consecutive loss to a top-10 team since late in the 2006 season.

Letters to the sports editor of the local newspaper, bloggers, Web sites, columnists, radio talk shows and TV analysts have all criticized Tressel's conservative approach to the game and his handling of the team.

Tressel, who admits that he makes most of the play calls even though Jim Bollman has the title of offensive coordinator, disdained going for a touchdown in favor of an easy field goal on fourth-and-goal at the USC 1 early in the second quarter. He also favored punting on fourth-and-1 at the USC 45 in the third quarter.

With around 8 minutes left in the game and Ohio State gripping a 15-10 lead, the Buckeyes drove to a first down at the USC 35. After a run gained three yards, quarterback Terrelle Pryor threw an incompletion and then was sacked for a four-yard loss that meant kicker Aaron Pettrey would have a 53-yard attempt on fourth-and-11 at the USC 36. Tressel elected to punt again.

That punt led to the Trojans taking control for an impressive 86-yard drive that won the game.

Tressel said he had no desire to give up calling plays and will not change his offensive philosophy, which basically is built on playing for field position, avoiding turnovers at all cost and relying on defense and special teams to win the game.

The vitriol Tressel has faced after the game is unlike any he has encountered in his eight-plus years at the helm. His first Ohio State team went 7-5 in 2001 but beat Michigan, earning him genius status with the Buckeyes' frequently fickle fans.

Since then, he led the Buckeyes to a surprising national championship in 2002 and has dominated the series with the archrival Wolverines, winning seven of eight meetings.

No wonder the Buckeyes faithful wore T-shirts that said, "In Tressel We Trust."

But landslide losses in the 2006 and 2007 national title games to Florida and LSU, and subsequent defeats in high-profile games to USC, Penn State, Texas and again to USC have caused the critics to come after the guy in the sweater vest.

Bob Hunter, a columnist for The Columbus Dispatch, wrote in Tuesday's editions that angry Ohio State fans may want a new coach but no one talks about who that might be. He also brought up the subject of buying out Tressel's contract, which would pay Tressel more than $12 million through January 2013. Tongue in cheek, Hunter proposed those wanting to get rid of Tressel might want to circulate petitions to build a casino or two on campus so the coach and his biggest boosters, athletic director Gene Smith and Ohio State president Gordon Gee, all could be fired.

With the Buckeyes (1-1) preparing to play Toledo at Cleveland Browns Stadium on Saturday, the glow of that 2002 national championship game seems light years away.

Tressel said he has received critical e-mails, but said the fans' poison makes him feel sorry for them.

"When I read some of them I feel terrible for them because there's no way they're happy," he said. "They've got to be some of the most unhappy people in the world, and I feel bad because we just made them less happy, and I hate to be a part of making someone less happy. I mean, they're already miserable."

other than tressel reiterating that he wont be giving up play calling duties...

while it wasnt quite the same as at the time we were known for being a 'big game team', there were a lot of people hootin and hollerin from the rooftops after the 2005 texas game as well.

the second half of 2005 (strong offensive performances vs UM and ND) r and the reg season of 2006 appeased everyone for awhile. i can envision the same thing happening again. this offense will look much better as conf play roles on, and as the offense matures.

Sure, the tide of public opinion hasn't completely turned on him, but as the article points out, there is a palpable shift in sentiment from the core fanbase.

You said people still love Tress. I said the cracks are beginning to show. And the Associated Press agrees with me:

"The vitriol Tressel has faced after the game is unlike any he has encountered in his eight-plus years at the helm. "

Cracks can either be sealed with solid play down the stretch, or they can be gouged into full blown fault lines with a couple of Big 10 losses. The odds are against Tress, a man who spearheads a program best known nationally not for it's BCS appearances or Big 10 titles, but for it's embarrassing play against top-tier competition. That's not my opinion, that's a fact.

Please let me know if I need to spell this out further for you.

i mean this is clearly a very factually based and substantiative observation from some AP writer.

people pissed at tressel's placalling? WOW, what a new concept. this shit has been going on for YEARS. if you could search for the OSU/UT thread from 2005 you'd find a carbon copy of all the shit thats been posted here by everyone the past few days. the fact that some AP writer thinks its worse now translates into the real life decisions of getting rid of the face of your program, how?

the notion of tressel being fired in lieu of anyone not named Urban Meyer is completely laughable. as an outsider, u obviously dont quite understand what he means to ohio and OSU. though, as a michigan fan, you'd maybe remember how hard it was to replace Lllllllloyd, and therefore might have some understanding that this isnt something you just do on a whim.

ill say it again, when he starts losing to crap teams, cant recruit ohio, has players running amok and cant beat michigan...heads will roll. if not, he's here and will leave on his own terms.

In response to Reply # 0

You have your choice of seven of college football's superstar young quarterbacks. Which one would you select? The CFNers give their opinions and ranking of players like Missouri's Blaine Gabbert in the latest Tuesday Question.

Tuesday Question ... Sept. 15

Ranking the young QBs

Pete Fiutak

Q: Assuming you're building a program for the next few years, which young quarterback would you most want (rank 1 for the most, 7 for the least)?

A: 7: Stephen Garcia, South Carolina - I really, really like him and believe he'll grow into the type of playmaker who can carry the program on his back, but I'm worried about the off-the-field issues. He has had problems in the past, and while he appears to have matured and he's been given the keys to the Steve Spurrier car, on this elite list, he ranks at the bottom ... but barely.

6. Ryan Mallett, Arkansas - Anyone with an arm like his and his NFL size can carry a team a long way, and he should take Arkansas to another level under Bobby Petrino. At the moment, he's not quite as good as he thinks he is and he'll get in trouble because he'll trust his arm too much. He might end up being the best pro QB on this list, but for my college team, I want more mobility.

5. Andrew Luck, Stanford - He could be the next Trent Edwards, but better. He has all the pro tools and is as mature and as smart as any young quarterback going, but I'm not quite sure he can carry a team like the top four guys. However, his upside is limitless.

4. Blaine Gabbert, Missouri - It's not necessarily fair or correct to say he'll make Mizzou fans forget about Chase Daniel, but he could come close. Combining his athleticism with the versatility to run the spread, or at least run a bit, or a pro-style attack, he'll be an interesting prospect to keep an eye on over the next few seasons.

3. Matt Barkley, USC - If we're talking about who the best pro prospect on the list is, it's Barkley. He might not be tall, but he has the arm, the command, and the ice water in his veins to lead USC to a lot of wins. He appears to be unfazed by all the attention, and he'll work hard to improve and be the star everyone is expecting him to be.

2. Tate Forcier, Michigan - We're not starting a pro team. Forcier isn't an NFL prospect, but he's the type of college baller who grows into a legend. Now we're going to see what the Rich Rodriguez offense can really do with a star quarterback surrounded by next-level talent.

1. Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State - Give him time. Remember, if the OSU defense comes up with a key stop on two late drives, Pryor becomes known as the quarterback who beat Texas in the Fiesta Bowl and toppled USC. He has the ability and the potential to be another Vince Young, but faster. Don't let the passing issues at the moment fool you. This could be a step back in the learning curve to take a gigantic leap forward in his development. Remember, Young couldn't throw worth a lick before his transcendent junior season.

Richard Cirminiello

Q: Assuming you're building a program for the next few years, which young quarterback would you most want (rank 1 for the most, 7 for the least)?

A: 7. Stephen Garcia, South Carolina – I haven’t seen anything from Garcia over the last couple of years that would make me comfortable entrusting the program to him. Plus, he’s had enough off-field issues to make me wonder when the next transgression is coming.

6. Blaine Gabbert, Missouri – He has tremendous upside as a pocket passer, yet also surprising mobility for a 6-5, 240-pounder. He’s good enough to succeed Chase Daniel the way Daniel followed Brad Smith.

5. Tate Forcier, Michigan – Hey, how can you not love where he’s headed after just a couple of games? However, he lacks the arm strength of some of the other quarterbacks on this list, which makes him a good fit for some systems, but not for all.

4. Andrew Luck, Stanford – Yeah, he throws a nice ball and looks the part at 6-4 and 235 pounds, but what I love most about Luck is his feel for the position at such a young age. He’s also extremely coachable, which often happens when you grow up with a former NFL quarterback as your dad.

3. Ryan Mallett, Arkansas – At 6-7 and 238 pounds, he possesses a rifle, arguably the strongest arm in this discussion. He can stretch a defense as well anyone in the country, yet still shows nice touch on his passes when its needed.

2. Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State – Raw or not, I’d love to get my hands on a 6-6, 235-pounder, who can fly like a wide receiver. The possibilities would be endless. He made some nice throws early on Saturday night, and should only get better as a passer over the next two seasons.

1. Matt Barkley, USC – He’s special, and that’s not just hype born out of Saturday night’s final drive. Heck, the fact that he’s the Trojan starting quarterback as a true freshman pretty much screams once-in-a-generation talent. In terms of the tangibles and the intangibles, he has just about everything you’d want at the position. And he just celebrated his 19th birthday.

Matt Zemek

Q: Assuming you're building a program for the next few years, which young quarterback would you most want (rank 1 for the most, 7 for the least)?

Tate Forcier - 1. The lad said he never gets nervous. Judging by his heroics against Notre Dame, the boyo is an honest soul. What's not to love about his nimble feet and agile mind?

Matt Barkley - 2. Not so much for this year, but definitely for 2010. USC's offense will continue to struggle for awhile, but after Saturday's win in Columbus, it is clear that this kid has a very level head on his shoulders. He doesn't own uncommon talent, but he does possess poise far beyond his 19 years.

Blaine Gabbert - 3. Waiting for the Big 12 gauntlet. Nice, steely comeback against Bowling Green, though.

Terrelle Pryor - 4. Came up small again in a big game. Where's the stage presence seen in last season's win at Wisconsin? Where's the improved decision-making and dynamic, get-out-of-my-face running that should leave opposing defenses gasping for breath. Pryor needs to make his legs more of a factor. MUCH more of a factor.

Stephen Garcia - 5. One game does not a resurrection make. Really encouraging, to be sure, but only one game.

Andrew Luck - 6. Came up kinda small in the second half in Winston-Salem this past weekend. Gifted, but still green.

Ryan Mallett - 7. The "7" rating should really be an "I" for incomplete. Arkansas needs to play somebody first this season.

Michael Bradley

Q: Assuming you're building a program for the next few years, which young quarterback would you most want (rank 1 for the most, 7 for the least)?

1. Matt Barkley, USC: He has just two games under his belt, but the young man has a big future.

2. Tate Forcier, Michigan: Never nervous and able to deliver in big situations, he is perfect for Rich Rodriguez’s system.

3. Blane Gabbert, Missouri: Illinois probably wishes Chase Daniel was still around after Gabbert’s opening-day performance.

4. Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State: All the potential in the world, but he has to cut back on mistakes to become a big-time force.

5. Andrew Luck, Stanford: He hasn’t dazzled yet, but his potential and physical skills will be big parts of the Cardinal turnaround.

6. Ryan Mallett, Arkansas: A big debut against Missouri State doesn’t show much, but Mallett’s big arm will make Razorback fans happy.

7. Stephen Garcia, South Carolina: He looked good against Georgia, but that was one game of several for a QB who still doesn’t get the ball downfield so well.

DAT TATE invading NYC?

QB Tate Forcier, Fr. Michigan
This Week: At home vs. Eastern Michigan
Last Week: 23-of-33 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns with an interception, and 13 carries for 70 yards and a score in the win over Notre Dame

The numbers are fine, but being the face of a resurgent superpower will put him on the Heisman watch list as long as the Wolverines are winning. He showed stone-cold guts in calmly leading Michigan to a last-second win over the Irish, and the hype will grow more and more as the team keeps rolling along.

not even he could have helped avoid that abortion of a season you had last year

and I'm sure he'd rather be playing in those marquee non conference games you guys got lined up for the next few years. Nothing screams prime time like a home and home with UCONN!

OSU was a better choice in every aspect (minus academics)...campus,facilities,surrounding talent, hoes (oh it matters), and yes...even coaching.

At least he would be much better statistically than at OSU. True, he would have had to struggle through year 1. We probably would have been .500. But he would be beasting this year. Because unlike Tressel, Rich Rod would be able to tailor the offense to his strengths.

Time will tell whether he made the right decision.

and what good are big non conference games when you lose all of them?

boy, you have low standards but I guess that's to be expected when you're a Penn State fan.

How about we wait and see how Little Man Tate fares in the Big 10 schedule before we anoint them as Big Ten champs, and Dick Rod as coach of the year?

I said the offense and defense both look much better, although the defense still has a long ways to go.

I'm taking it with a grain of salt, because WMU came out flat as hell, and completely unprepared..and Notre Dame looks like they were overrated coming into the season..AGAIN.

But when people start saying silly shit like Dick Rod is a better coach than Tressel, and Pryor chose the wrong school, etc, it gets a little out of hand.

Now lets address Pryor goin to osu or michigan. The system DR is putting in here would fit TP to a T. But instead he goes to osu and is being used completely wrong. So there is a debate there. I guess it all depends on what hes tryin to get out of his college years.

^^ this is underrated. What if TP realizes his passing game is tres wack right now and he's willing to take the lumps in hopes of being a #1 pick? Granted, he'd be murdering folk at UM but by the time he'd be draft eligible, the wildcat fad would be over and he'd be fighting teams that would want to make him the next Antonio Gates

He made it very clear he wanted to play in a pro style offense. Alex Smith basically scared away every NFL team from taking a 1st round chance on a spread option QB.

This whole notion of Tressel not taking advantage of a QB's strengths is silly. Our 2006 offense was tailor made to fit Troy Smith's (who had the luxury of a red shirt) strengths. It's just that Pryor has a ways to go before he can fully earn Tressel's trust behind center, and is going through some obvious growing pains.

He'll get there eventually, just not in his sophomore year.

Not in his sophomore year? LOL weren't you the one hyping up how he was about to beast all year? What, now we got to wait till his junior year?

I don't care what Pryor's rationale was to go to OSU over Umich. Bottom line? He would have put BETTER numbers EACH year ALL 4 years here.

It's too early to say now, but I have a feeling after he graduates it would be safe to say he would have been drafted higher had he gone to Michigan.

Time will tell.

Possibly, but he'll win more games at OSU and be taken higher in the NFL draft.

No NFL team is taking a (edit) 1st round* chance on a spread option QB. NFL GMs view it as a gimmick offense and nothing more.

Yea, he seems somewhat tentative. Zoom is running hard though, and I like the little dumpoffs and screens we used today..Jordan Hall's vision and his patience in letting blocks develop is really surprising for a freshman..is Berry still dinged up?

I rode for my team and lost and honored my word. I got no problem with that.

Soon as things went bad for you, on the other hand, you complained and cried like a bitch that it wasn't fair and you quit.

That's weak as hell man. I'ma let you get back to "having words" with pro athletes, though. *smh*

Your perception of reality is so distorted that it leaves absolutely no doubt in my mind that you are from Columbus, Ohio.

Now FOH, I'm done with you.

We've been here for almost a decade on theseosu threads been to plenty of the same games and never had the urge to meet up at a tailgate let alone let you in my house. Why? Because we have real lives to live. Must really be a Michigan thing

I said I don't let rivalries control my life and hate people jsut because they go to a rival school. I told you that even after all the shit talk if you came up to game in Ann Arbor and wanted a beer at my tailgate I'm the type of person that would let you.

You somehow came up with a story that I wanted to come over to your house. Fuck you.

Tate may be frail, short and a freshman but he just has what it takes to make plays when they are needed and he is just enough of a dual threat that teams really have a tough time preparing.

Unfortunately the kid can not play corner, safety and inside linebacker.

Brian Kelly and Bob Stoops are both the leading names being brought up for Notre Dame...Weiss is gone...

and now I'm hearing more and more about Dick Rod being gone at the end of the season, despite what Bill Martin said..

We're all wrong.

Tate sucks today and isn't ready to beat a good d.

Pryor is QBing for a team that doesn't know how to use him.

only with less time to learn than the previous two..(edit they both red shirted...Pryor didnt)

point is..its a W..he's now 2-0 vs Michigan

he ran that zone read perfectly, no turnovers...and he ran the ball aggressively when he did keep it...

meanwhile Forcier looked harassed, beaten, confused, worn out...or just plain shitty for the last 2/3rds of the season...

this entire post is a culmination of L's for a bunch of people who are going to look pretty stupid the next two years

this isnt any sort of "W" for the OKP Buckeyes because its a stupid claim to begin with, and the original poster was gassed off a win over notre dame

there's still a ton of L's to be handed out to everyone

and when we win games in a eerily similar fashion to 2002 2003 (run run run run run run, and play defense)

you know people will start chirping again about Tressel's lack of faith in him, how he should move to WR etc etc

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=ap-forcier-apartmentwindow

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP)—Police in Grand Rapids, Mich., say a woman called them because she was concerned that former Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier was going to jump from her apartment window.

An officer was able to get Forcier to open the door and “no police action was taken.”

Police released a one-page report Friday to The Associated Press, one day after it was reported by WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids.

The police report says Forcier locked himself in a bedroom in Apartment 314 on April 22 and a woman told officers he was “leaning out a window.” Other details were redacted and police declined further comment Friday.

Forcier and his father did not return messages left seeking comment. Forcier, who played two seasons at Michigan, planned to transfer to Miami but never enrolled.
