Speed on SPEED.

No need to dwell on particulars. We know all the factors. Oregon plays fast and plays with speed on both sides of the ball. Auburn isn't exactly slow but the team is young as shit led by two dynamic players that simply MUST have been games for either their offense or defense to be viable.

They say Defense wins championships and if that is the case I don't know that a one man Defense can get 'er done.

Failry and Newton are impressive but they're two people. They're two people who will have to not be magical but be the players they've been all season in every game. The problem with that is having over a month off.

The ducks can score, we know. Their Defense is better than Auburn's and in what is sure to be a sprint to the title, all they'll need is a few more stops than the Barn to make the trophy theirs.

My prediction? Oregon 54, Auburn 42 <--- I'm not really serious.

I never have confidence in teams that rely heavily on individuals like Auburn does.

BOTH Fairly and Newton have to play like they've been playing all season. They can't have an off game, they can't get hurt, they can't miss time, they can't get cramped up.

That's a LOT of fucking shit that can go wrong.


Oregon doesn't rely on one nigga like that.

Barner is every bit as fast as LaMichael James and after having been knocked out in Pullman a few months ago he is now fully healthy and contributing again.

Chip Kelly instituted a "position package" a year ago that he refers to as "Tazer" or more accurately, TZR. The TZR is the player that has a rounded skill-set and can be relied on to catch the ball, but also run the ball out of the backfield as a RB. Kenjon Barner is the original TZR - true freshman Josh Huff is the next version.

With Ohio State's impressive defensive line matched up against his smaller offensive line, and LaMichael James struggling to find seams to burst through, Chip Kelly called a number of sweep plays with Barner storming through the backfield from wide positions. A number of those plays were effective, with Barner able to burst up field around the end having taken a quick forward pitch from Masoli. That forward-pitch has actually been a staple of Chip Kelly's bowl offenses, and I've noticed it almost every post-season game since Kelly has been at Oregon. He totally destroyed USF in the Sun Bowl with a similar play. I fully expect both Barner, and Josh Huff to be involved in a fair number of sweep type plays tonight.

Also, Barner and Huff could factor in Oregon's return game as alternates to dynamic corner and return man Cliff Harris. This group knows how to score touchdowns.

QB because you couldn't do it last season against Pryor. Other than practice, your defense hasn't really haven't faced a dual threat QB this season.

AND Fairley does the same, Auburn wins.

But both of those ifs are pretty fucking huge. Everything hinges on those two.

high scoring game with spread offenses. Only because both teams like to RUN with that shit.

I've got to be honest and say those kind of games bore me.

Cam is gonna get his. He's a dominant player, one of the most dominant in the last 20 years, and Oregon isn't great against mobile QBs, but I've respected how they keep coming at people this year. They might fall behind early, but they keep coming at you, and they play solid. I think Auburn will score but I don't think Oregon's D will let them run away with it.

Fairley might play like a thug (in the good and bad sense, truly), but he's been a beast all season. Oregon has a lot of option runs that actually key on the DT, and Oregon hasn't faced a DT as good as Fairley this season. I recall in previous years (again, different Oregon teams) quick penetrating DTs like Brian Price being able to fuck up those zone reads in the backfield on occasion. Thing is, with big guys like that, are they gonna be in condition to do that all game? Especially with Oregons tempo. That's when the big plays happen.

I see Auburn getting off to a good start here, then Oregon putting it together from the second quarter on and winning it. But if it comes down to the last drive, I would never bet against Cam. I was actually in Vegas this weekend and put my money on Oregon, but after thinking it through, I'm not sure that was the best move. Regardless, hoping for a great game.

that man will call a fake punt on his side of the field, an onside kick after any score, and will go for it on 4th down more often than not. The dude is just fearless.

Can he keep that up ALL game at THAT tempo?

If not, then auburn's D doesn't hold serve and they lose.

Oregon scores in bunches and there's a reason for that. They wear on your mentally and physically. That's why they score late and they score QUICKLY because of that speed in that offense the big play looms.

So that means no lapses.

Even when Auburn breaks one it's not usually the kind of thing were a touchdown is eminent.

It's just a 15 or 20 yard gain. Oregon breaks one? Could be 6.

So that means Fairley has to be perfect and he's gotta be perfect for 4 quarters.

That just doesn't look like a great formula for a win. I hope it'll be a more compelling game than that too but this is what *I* see.

I see the same thing happening. I am not sure if Auburn has enough experienced depth right today at DL to keep up with Oregon for 4 quarters.

Not sure how many were rolling through for the game or how many just happened to be in Vegas for the weekend, but I appreciated the PASSION.

I'm not even going for Auburn, but I gave them a couple "War Eagle!" cause I appreciated that passion.

Saw some Oregon fans too, wished them luck, though that was more for a formal to formal Pac-10 thing, and I couldn't think of a catchphrase they have.

But what other sport do you have a good portion of their fanbase uplifting themselves for a weekend at a time to travel cross country for their team? I'm not even talking about just the bowls, I'm talking I know families and alums who'd go to most every single road game too, alums who fly back across country a couple times a year just to catch the games, you don't really see that sort of love in other sports. Seeing those folks and seeing the Auburn/Oregon folks and the Wisconsin/TCU folks out in LA back for the Rose Bowl makes me proud to be an American, really. And with the last game of the season here, we should appreciate that.

i gotta admit, im less sold on auburn winning this game then I was however long ago the season ended. i think that's half the problem, this shit ended so long ago that you really don't know what to expect.

the layoff could help auburn or it could hurt. teams that have time to prepare schematically for oregon do well. getting your conditioning up for that fast tempo is EASY. its a predictable variable...its just a function of getting the necessary time to pull it off and then putting in the effort to get it done. did auburn use their time wisely? did newton hit the buffet circuit hard a la troy? hell if i know.

cam is a scumbag and oregon is corny and talks too much shit. so im fine however tonight goes.

i think auburn takes it but nothing would shock me.
