Been going through some things lately and been unable to post. Feel free to take the second round too. Obviously Lebron was a no-brainer.

Just cant pass on the potential. Carmellos great and will probably have the more immediate impact but the "upside" is too hard to pass on. Plus he fits what we need. Scoring down low with the ability to go outside and boards, boards, boards!!

KingKahn youre on the clock.

What happens if some of the early entry candidates (Jameer Nelson, Mo Williams...to name a few) pull their names out of the draft? They've got until June 19th to do so...how will that effect our mock draft?

"You think I'm this nice in real life? FUCK THAT, SON! It's 'cause I'm on TV. I'm wild! I'll pull my balls out right now...I DON'T CARE!!! Skeet, skeet, skeet, SKEET!"

"Thank you for coming out. God Bless you. Good night."

hey, i was leaning towards chris bosh, but i just read this insider article (below) on the big siberian, and thought it'd be nice to shake things the fuck up...

--------------------------

The ultimate out-of-nowhere story
By Chad Ford
NBA Insider
Send an Email to Chad Ford

CHICAGO -- The giant is out of the bag.

Sleeping Giant
Until last December, when Insider Chad Ford heard the tale of a mysterious big-man discovered in Siberia and stashed in Varese, Italy, to develop, few people in the NBA had even heard of Pavel Podkolzine.

But between Ford's story then and his visit to Italy for a first-hand look last month, Podkolzine went from anonymous to the top of the charts.

Dec. '02: Big men, tall tales

May '03: Meet goliath

Two hundred NBA scouts and GMs crammed into the Gold Coast Multiplex on Friday to watch 7-foot-4, 300 pound Siberian center Pavel Podkolzine's first workout. The obscure 18-year-old big man whom no one had heard of six months ago went from the ultimate sleeper to a top-10 lock in slightly more than 40 minutes.

"Holy sh--!" one NBA GM told Insider. "He's amazing."

"I don't believe what I just saw," another GM told Insider. "That's the most potent combination of size, strength and agility I've seen since Shaq."

"I was a skeptic when I read all the reports about him on Insider," another GM began. "I love the international kids, but I thought things were getting out of hand with Pavel. I'm converted now. That's one amazing prospect right there."

"What does Yao Ming do that he doesn't?" another GM said. "Yao's feel for the game at this point is much better, but from a physical standpoint, he's more explosive."

Podkolzine
Podkolzine aced his first test in the NBA. He shot the ball extremely well, threw coach Billy Bayno around in the post like a rag doll and ran the floor like a guard.

Almost everyone in attendance quickly drew comparisons between Pavel and a young, agile Arvydas Sabonis.

"People in the NBA don't remember Sabonis when he was young," one international scout said. "They only remember the slow version. Pavel seems to have all of those same skills at the enormous size. If he develops a real feel for the game, you will see him dominate the NBA for 15 years."

For those of you still skeptical about the big fella's NBA potential consider this. Of the 20 or so team executives I talked to after the workout, none of them projected Podkolzine to last past No. 10.

" If I'm Carmelo Anthony, I'm sweating right now. Based on potential, he's right up there with LeBron and Darko. "
— An NBA GM, on Podkolzine
Some think he'll go much higher.

"He'll go anywhere from four to seven," one GM said.

"He won't get past six," said another.

One really went out on a limb. "If I'm Carmelo Anthony, I'm sweating right now. Based on potential, he's right up there with LeBron and Darko."

Indeed, after the workout, the Denver Nuggets were among the plethora of teams calling Pavel's agent, Justin Zanick, trying to schedule a private workout. Ironicaly, Carmelo met Podkolzine in the hotel lobby when Podkolzine checked in. Carmelo looked up (way up) and just said, "Damn!"

Zanick, a new NBA agent who used to work for super-agent Mark Bartelstien, also went from obscurity to one of the most powerful agents in this year's draft overnight. After the workout, he couldn't talk for two minutes without being interrupted by a team trying to arrange to see Podkolzine again.

Most won't get the chance. The buzz is so high on Podkolzine right now, Zanick is thinking of shutting down his workouts.

Podkolzine will take the NBA physical today, then begin a tour of lottery teams interested in him. Whether he actually works out during those visits remains to be seen.

He'll be in Memphis on Tuesday. Milwaukee the next day, New York on Thursday, Miami either Friday or next Saturday, and in L.A. to meet with the Clippers on June 15. The Nuggets, Raptors and Bulls also will get visits.

At 7-foot-4, Podkolzin has size and mobility, but he lacks game experience.
Of course, everyone is taking this workout with a grain of salt. It revealed nothing about court IQ, the ability to be physical with stronger, more athletic players, or game-time savvy. Podkolzine played a total of 120 minutes last year in Varese. That's three full games. In other words, everyone understands he's a project -- a guy a couple years away from having a big impact in the league. But with those type of physical skills, it appears teams are willing to take the risk.

With his buyout taken care of, and concerns about his ankle dispelled, Podkolzine has a great chance of being the second international player taken in the draft. With Darko Milicic, France's Mickael Pietrus (Bulls GM John Paxson just flew over to France to get a second look) and Poland's Maciej Lampe also generating a lot of buzz, it appears a record four international players will be selected in the lottery.

Podkolzine is surprised at all of the attention. "I can't believe how many people came to see me?" he said. "I thought, like, 10 people will be in this gym. I don't even play this year."

Pavel claims he got nervous when the stampede of NBA scouts flooded into the gym. It didn't show on the court. "I wanted to go and shake everyone's hand," he said. "But there is too many. Many, many people came. I just hope I was worth the time."

After the workout, Podkolzine's attention turnsed to food and shopping. He skipped his usual pizza for some more American-style fare. "I'm not Italian anymore," he says with a big grin. "Now I'm American."

After lunch, he was anxious to hit Niketown, hoping to find some Michael Jordan wear. It's impossible to find that stuff in Italy, and even the store manager isn't sure they make things big enough for a 7-foot-4 kid. After some serious searching, they finally find some gear big enough. Size? XXXXXL.

Everywhere he goes, people flock to him. He takes the time to stop and talk to each person. The smile didn't leave his face all day. Even off the court he seems shocked with all of the attention.

For all of his special qualities on the court, Pavel's best attributes may be off it. He's kind, warm and humble. He has no idea who he is or what he could become.

"He is a gift from God," adviser and former coach Gianni Chipparo said after the workout. "Pavel is a great kid. He works hard, and he just wants to get better. He has the chance to be very special on the court. Off the court? He's already arrived."

12. "#5 Miami Heat select Chris Bosh, Ga Tech"
In response to Reply # 0

I'm not really sold on Bosh, but this is the NBA Draft and it's all about drafting on potential. He's a big man with good range (shot 45%+ from 3) but he's definitely not afraid to bang (really good shooting pct, 9 boards per game). And a 6-10 guy who actually likes getting it on down low is becoming a rare commodity these days.

In making the pick, I pretty much didn't take the Heat roster or off-season moves into account one bit. Why should I waste a pick on a scrub like Kaman just because Zo is leaving? Drafting based on need over skills this high in the draft is how shit like Bowie going ahead of Jordan happens.

The only other player I seriously considered was T.J. Ford. I'm woefully ignorant of the Europeans and none of the other Americans strike me as future stars. However, Ford's shooting scares me a little and in the year of the point guard I might be able to nab a good one at 33 anyway (whoops, did I just give away my strategy?).

The Clippers are on the clock.

Andre Miller has said that he wasnt going to resign with the clippers, so with him leaving why not take Ford?...I was thinking maybe Mickael Pietrus (SG), but I'm hoping Maggette gets signed...the clippers need a Center too, but i'm not sold on Kaman, or any white (american) center.

The Chicago Bulls select Jarvis Hayes, G/F from the University of Georgia.

I really like Hayes. He's got great size for a swingman (6'7", 220 with potential to carry about 240 on his frame). Possibly the best shooter in this draft class. Will play D. Kinda reminds me of Ron Artest w/ a better jumpshot and w/o the insanity and severe lack of intelligence (not AS good of a defender as Artest, but can stick his man in a one-on-one situation). Is a little bit of a reach at seven, but I think he's the player that fits the best with the Bulls.

He's an undersized two guard who needs the ball in his hands on every possession to be effective. The Bulls need a swingman who's a decent defender on the ball and has a little range on his jumper. Jarvis fills that hole nicely. Don't worry BJ, your guy might still be available when we're on the clock in the second round.

In response to Reply # 0

Yup, I have been touting him as the NY pick for the last two months and I believe that NY is where he is(should be headed)
Lets be truthful here
NY is in the shitbox and they have no business in even thinking about the safe pick(Mike Sweetney, Chris Kaman)
Now is as good as any time for them to do this
Fuck picking safe, NY needs to treat this like a lottery for real and take a chance on an enormous sized 18 year old kid from Greece and hope he develops into an explosive exciting player that can give them some much needed energy on that frontcourt
Dude has potential and I think he is going to be a good NBA player
He is about 6'9 300 pounds, but for the most part that shit is muscle
Other picks I were considering here were Sweetney,Kaman, and Pavel Podkolzine
And, a lot of people think that pg is a huge need for Ny and I will let yall know why I didn't address that
Frank Williams was our 1st rounder last year and we still do not know what he is capable of doing
Also, Milos Vujanic should be headed over to NY in 2004
And(the last reason)
Speedy Claxton is going to be a free agent after this season is over
If NY wants to address a need for pg they should chase after him and use the draft pick on something else
In the 2000 draft we were two picks away from getting Claxton (Toronto wasnt going to take him)and the bitch ass sixers fucked that up for us
Bring him to his rightful place damnit

Coincidentally, an articel about Schortsanitis appeared in the NY post today

I dont know if whoever is running the show is allowing trades, but if there are trades we need to use this

that will tell us if trades are possible and if team x has enough cap room to make a trade like that

use it for the players involved if you trade with another team and that way we can find out if the other team can afford it
I dont think hat draft picks count against the cap so they dont matter when trying to determine whether a trade can fit under the cap
You can just throw in the player with the cheapest sallary on the other team to find out the cap situation and if you want to trade your pick and players just for a pick alone
Or yall could take it further and do a trade that involves picks and players
But of course, this is only if trades are allowed

Several questions:

1) Have you contacted the Wizards about bringing Patrick Ewing in as an assistant?

a) if we are drafting size (which we should be) I believe Ewing would be good mentor.
b) Pat should be back in New York working for the Knickerbockers- he is a Knick for life.
c) It would be a way to further mend his messy exit and good PR for you (FYI: You need good PR right now)

2) Sofoklis or Sweetney? (did you see Sweetney's wingspan from the physical? Very Elton Brand like and the game is there) Whom do you prefer?

3) Has Frederic Weis decided to join us yet?

4) If he is available, PUH-LEEZ nab Troy Bell in the second round- his game would be a good change of pace from Frank Williams game.

5) Do we still have any salaries on the books like LJs?

I hope that you make some good decisions because this year, Chaney cannot be a scapegoat if we don't field a playoff caliber team. I am not expecting a trip to the finals
but I would like to see a team that has the competitive spirit evident in last-year's squad, with the talent and depth to get into the playoffs.

Gil, it was nice knowing you. As much as I would like to use this pick to draft a center like Chris Kaman, I don't see Gilbert Arenas staying with the Warriors, and Jason Kidd coming home won't happen with the Warriors cap situation. I actually had a difficult time picking between Hinrich, Ridnour, Gaines, and Barbosa, but Hinrich is pretty polished and should help the team right away.

he's not spectacular...nor will he fill seats. however, the warriors already have that in jameson and richardson. they need that guy to keep them on the ground and i think you're right with hinrich. plus, he gives them some clutch outside shooting that they really need. j-rich hits the outside shot but is very streaky.

like u, i hate to see gil leave. he's an overachiever and has the aggressiveness that jameson just does not. but we have to be realistic. unless the almight intervenes, there's no way arenas will stay. what sucks is that they can't even sign and trade cuz they can't sign him for enough.

nbadraft.net had Bell going in the second round. For the most part, I see Ford and Hinrich as the top two pgs, with Ford taken, I figured Hinrich was the best option with the 11th pick.

with practically all our centers and forwards playing like shooting guards, has a chance to be THE MAN inside (at least offensively)...has size like elton brand and hopefully a game and work ethic to match.

yeah, crappy big guys. here's the roll call:

calvin booth: sucks a camel's ass. he wins this team's "vin baker money pit" award.
elden campbell: strangely, got almost no PT on a pivot-starved team. will probably leave.
peja drobnjak: can shoot outside but scares absolutely no one, except for little kids.
reggie evans: has potential to become ben wallace lite but has no offense whatsoever. lacks height.
jerome james: gotta keep him away from the krispy kreme. has center skills but needs his head screwed on straighter.
vitaly potapenko: bland.
vladimir radmanovic: would rather lob threes than work it inside (which seems to work, so i'll not complain)

as it stands, the only one on the list who provides a post "threat" is james (we haven't had a consistent inside presence since the old vin). we need much more than that, and i think sweetney can provide it for us through lots of hustle points and rebounds while ray and rashard shoot away.

41. "The Memphis Grizzlies select Mickael Pietrus"
In response to Reply # 0
Wed Jun-11-03 03:41 AM

6'6" shooting guard, France.

The scouting reports have pietrus as the most athletic of the euros and arguably the most athletic 2 in the draft. The Grizz have an athletic frontcourt w/ miller, swift, wright, gasol, and batiste.
The really don't have a dribble penetrator w/ athleticsm that can break down defenses. Battier and Wes Person don't scare people off the dribble and that hurts Gasol's effectiveness in the post.
I dunno about his defense, which seems to be the Grizz' biggest problem. If their looking to go up-tempo, tho, this could be the guy.

I looked at centers, but they're stiffs and I'm not sold on that Kaman kid at all.

I'm looking to trade the 27th pick if someone will take either shane battier, ryan humphrey, and/or brevin knight.

solidant and the Sonics are back on the clock

I know this is late, but after consulting with the co-commish ErnestLee, we have decided that we will allow trades of draft picks ONLY. With the salary cap and all the issues it brings up, it will slow up the draft and create headaches for people to try to trade picks and players. So again, only draft picks can be traded. With that said, if you have 2 picks later in the draft, Phoenix is interested in trading it's pick at #17.

In response to Reply # 0

i was very tempted to pick leandrinho barbosa here (especially with all the comparisons to GP), but ultimately went with ridnour because:
1) barbosa is a big ol' project
2) we need point guard help right now (the west isn't getting any easier to play in)
3) ridnour has the tools to be a solid steve nash-type 1
4) ridnour, a local product, will get at least some butts into empty keyarena seats (friends, family, groupies)

so yeah...ridnour at 14th.

In response to Reply # 0

Gaines is a solid player who can play both guard positions. This pick addresses our need for a point guard. He has great size and athleticism. He passes well and is able to score in bunches. He has a quick first step and isn’t afraid to take his man to the hole, he’s able to finish strong in traffic. He has good vision and can get the ball to the open man. I read a stat that in one game he didn’t score for the first 30 minutes, and ended up with 26 for the game, so he is capable of going on scoring binges. I think he’s a solid player and will be a very good NBA player. I was tempted to go with the kid from Brazil, but I felt Gaines was a safer pick.

Phoenix(KCPlayer) is up next the the 17th pick.

a 6-11 power forward from Senegal. We were trying to get a trad with the Lakers for their #24 and #32 picks, but it didn't work out. Badiane seemed like a good pick to solidify a frontcourt with Amare and Shawn Marion to contend with the great forwards in the Western Conference. I really wanted to pick an American player, but after reading the Chicago camp info on this guy from ESPN.com, he seems like he could be the truth. On the other hand, he could be a huge bust. But the NBA draft has become a big crap shoot now, you hope that you hit 7 or 11 every time you roll.

Nick Collison of Kansas.

Yeah it's the chalk pick, no I don't remember the last KU white big man to make an impact in this league....it still makes sense for what they need.

But with Tim Floyd coaching, it's better to take a seasoned player with a track record from a big program than a project.

Collison was my if-he's-available guy at the start of the draft and Bombastic had him high on his board too. Whenever I looked at boxscores of the Philly-NO series and thought, "Why the hell is a one-man team beating a fairly rounded squad?", the answer (aside from Davis' injuries), was inevitably depth. I think Collison can give good minutes at a few positions, and be one of the steadier post-up fours in the league. I think down the road he's a starter. I think Magloire is light years from where is will/can be right now. He was never an offensive focal point at Kentucky and as his scoring tools develop, he'll be one of the best in the East. Mashburn and Wesley have a whole bunch of solid seasons in them, and Davis is the glue. I think a strong frontcourt rotation would really step this team up a notch and Collison is capable of doing it. His transition won't be easy but I think he's even more fit for it than, say, a similar player like Battier.

The Utah Jazz select:

David West out of Xavier

Malone will be out of here in the next year or so, so better start rebuilding now.West is a little undersized, but has shown to be a great scorer. Let's see how does against the big boys.

Notes: West became Xavier's first National Player of the Year when he won the 2002-03 Rupp Trophy, which is the award given by the Associated Press its top college player. West also won the 2002-03 Oscar Robertson Player of the Year Trophy, which is the National Player of the Year award for the USBWA (U.S. Basketball Writers Association). West was also named as the 2002-03 Basketball Times Player of the Year and finished second in the balloting for the John R. Wooden Award for player of the year.

West was named as a 2002-03 First Team All-American by the Associated Press, the USBWA, the NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) and the John R. Wooden Award. He was the first player in Xavier history to be named to the first team of a major All-American team and was also the recipient of the 2002-03 NABC/Pete Newell Big Man of the Year Award, which is presented annually during the National Association of Basketball Coaches Convention at the Final Four.

West was the first player to win three A-10 Player of the Year awards, having earned them in each of his last three years. He also was named to the A-10 All-Defensive Team for the third straight year in 2003.

As can be expected, West set numerous records during his four seasons at Xavier. West finished with 2,132 career points and grabbed 1,308 career rebounds. Only four players have reached the 2,000-point, 1,000-rebound plateau over the last six years: West, Raef LaFrentz (Kansas ?98), Nick Collison (Kansas ?03) and Brandon Hunter (Ohio ?03). Xavier has only one other player in its history that has collected over 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds: Tyrone Hill (1986-90) had 2,003 points and a school record 1,380 rebounds.

West was among the top five in almost every category in the Atlantic Ten: points (20.1 ppg, third), rebounding (11.8 rpg, first), field goal percentage (51.3 percent, second), free throw percentage (81.6 percent, third) and blocked shots (1.6 bpg, fourth). West tallied a school record 68 career ?double-doubles? in scoring-rebounding during his career, and had 22 double-doubles as a senior, including his 47-point, 18-rebound game against Dayton; his 25-point, 14-rebound game at Saint Joseph?s; a 28-point, 11-rebound game against Creighton, and a 20-point, 12-rebound game at Richmond.

West scored in double figures 110 times in his career and 86 of the last 87 games in his career with the only non-double figure game during that 85-game stretch being the injury-shortened nine-point game against Cincinnati on December 14, 2001. In fact, West scored in double figures in each of his last 56 games, which is the second longest streak in Xavier history. West also broke two other career school records with his 662 free throws made and 874 free throws attempted.

NBA Comparison: Derrick Coleman (Less ability, More heart)

Strengths: Very athletic. Tenacious competitor. Smart, team player. Excellent defender and rebounder. Post moves are excellent, can even face the basket and take the ball off the dribble to an extent. Has a variety of moves and positions himself on the block for rebounds or passes. Very good versatility. Shoots the ball with great touch and has decent range. Blue collar type of rebounding power forward that plays with maximum effort at all times... Similar to former Muskateer Brian Grant with his strength and work ethic.. Huge wingspan makes him bigger than he appears. Has nice post moves around the basket. Offensive game is steadily improving. Has very bright future.

Weaknesses: Undersized. Not quite prototype size, but fits that description in many ways. A PF all the way. Doesn't have the ball handling or perimeter skills to play the SF position. Frame does not appear huge but it's decent. Must get stronger. Slight-tweener. Alot depends how he measures out. Some have qustioned his maturity level after his blowups during games, but it is most often attributed to his passion for the game.

A couple of things that I read about this guy that I liked. Intelligent player with great understanding of the game. He has leadership skills. Point guard like ball handling. He can create his own shot, has a hard to block jumper. He’s a smooth penetrater who can finish or dish it to an open player. Goes to the basket with a lot of energy. He’s a solid defender and has a knack for getting steals and offensive boards for garbage buckets. I checked out his stats, he’s improved every year in the last 3 years.

for the purposes of the mock draft. I know with the NFL mock draft, we didn't make teams change up picks based on trades made after the mock draft started.

....high schooler, not talked about.....But I know him and his family. I know he will get picked by somebody in the draft becasue you can't over look his size and great hands, better post moves than some and the NBA now. (this kid is nice for a tall high schooler) I would love for him to play in ATL for real. We need a "Big Man" his size. Shareaf move to 3, Ratlif at 4 and Land at center.

In response to Reply # 0
Fri Jun-13-03 11:09 AM

Aleksandar Pavlovic 6-6, 207 Serbia

sorry.. no comp access at work.

This pick is pretty tough to estimate at this point with the possibility of Kidd bouncing elsewhere after winning a ring in the Dirty Jerz. Personally, I'd like to see GP n Kidd head back to Oakland and make a bunch of peoples fantasies in the Golden State.

Keeping in mind the Nets grabbed Nenad Krstic last year around this point as a project and he's supposedly the real deal, there's no real need to upgrade the center position again with Krstic and Collins A.Williams and dare I say Deke occupying the 5.

However I think this pick becomes fairly obvious after watching the first 4 games of the finals. Even if Kidd stays Jersey could use a shooter. Kittles is fine as the SG and Lucious seems pretty solid off the bench, however Harris and Anthony Johnson along with J-dot-Kidd are all free agents, leaving a gaping hole at PG.

So I was down to either Travis Hansen of BYU, the kid Barbosa from Brazil and Alexsander.

Pavlovic brings a lot in his size and athleticism and seemingly good play either guard and sf off the bench, maybe even replacing Kittles in the near future.

(anything to get away from these 77-76 games)

...Carlos Delfino (SG/SF) 6'7" from Argentina.

I was torn between selecting a PG (where McInnis is the only option since Stoudamire is a bust and a serious defensive liability/Antonio Daniels will leave as a free agent) or a SF. The Blazers have enough SG's in Derek Anderson, Bonzi and Reuben Patterson. They also have enough PF/C's in Sheed, Dale Davis and Zach Randolph. Delfino fills a serious need at SF and a perimeter shooter---maybe then Sheed will concentrate on playing in the post for a change.

Boris Diaw (france) http://www.nbadraft.net/profiles/borisdiaw.htm

long atheletic SF who can run the floor and finish. Loves to distribute the ball and plays exceptional defense and rebound. Very smart ballplayer. Appears to be too unselfish. But on a team where you have two superstars who need the ball, he'd fit right in.

I'm really surprised he fell this far. I don't expect him to fall this far in reality unless he is injured or something.

I'm not as convinced that we need a point like that. Not offensively that is. And if we do, we're not going to find him in the draft. defensively, this dude can guard points and sf.

PG Brazil.

Of our needs, Joe D will fill most via free agency. Chucky is likely out, and it would be nice to breed a point guard for the future. Hopefully Chauncey is a staple here for years to come and Barbosa is nothing more than a backup. And I like him as that.

The Minnesota Timberwolves select . . . hometown hero Troy Bell. I know he's probably not the best player left in the draft, but I think he's got a lot of potential. Plus, I really didn't want to take someone I know nothing about, which eliminates most of the Europeans.

Where is Brian Cook? You guys are picking people you've only read about...that's messed up; and for ever Gasol, Ginobli or Illa, there are two failed stories of foreign players. but whatever, all in good fun, but i'm sticking with what i have seen and (think) i know.

Travis Outlaw of Starkville HS.
It's not like we're gonna draft someone who's gonna contribute right away (although David West...), so we're goin for a dude that's got awesome physical tools, and just needs a few years to bloom. Plus if we get JO this summer, he'll be able to mentor this young cat

NBA Comparison: Darius Miles (uh...on second thought...)

Strengths: The epitome of a physical specimen. Athleticism is what sets Outlaw apart from other players. A phenomenal leaper. He’s rumored to be able to touch the top of the backboard. Runs the floor faster than most guards. Exceptional quickness and a large wingspan enable him to be a defensive stopper. An excellent shot-blocker who elevates off the floor quickly. His stroke is coming on and could potentially make him a leathal player down the road

Weaknesses: His understanding of the game is not there yet. Shot is still inconsistent but it has improved dramatically since his sophopmore year. Must play to his strengths and not always settle for the outside shot. At 6-9 and 195 lbs. weight and strength is obviously an issue. Must make better decisions with the ball. Can get caught using his athleticism solely to beat guys, and this will not suffice in the NBA.

------------------------------
For the record, my teams:
MLB: Mets / Soccer: PSG
NCAA BB: Arizona / NCAA FB: Michigan
NBA: Spurs / NFL: Jets

Good job so far, fellas, it only took 10 days to get through the first round, hopefully we can get this done before the real draft. It looks like everyone is sold on the foreigners and high school kids, we took 11 foreign players and 4 high schoolers in the first round. It's not looking too good for the kids that stay all four years, only 5 seniors were taken. There are still some quality guys (especially seniors) still on the board, Brian Cook, Luke Walton, Josh Howard, and Dahntey Jones just to name a few. Let's get started with Round 2, Mr. Sco and Cleveland are on the clock.

FIRST ROUND
1. Cleveland – Lebron James, G, St. Vincent-St. Mary’s HS
2. Detroit (from Memphis) – Darko Milicic, PF, Serbia-Montenegro
3. Denver – Carmelo Anthony, SF, Syracuse
4. Toronto – Pavel Podkolzin, C, Russia
5. Miami – Chris Bosh, PF, Georgia Tech
6. L.A. Clippers – TJ Ford, PG, Texas
7. Chicago – Jarvis Hayes, SG/SF, Georgia
8. Milwaukee (from Atlanta) – Maciej Lampe, PF, Poland
9. New York – Sofoklis Schortsanitis, PF/C, Greece
10. Washington – Dwyane Wade, SG, Marquette
11. Golden State – Kirk Hinrich, PG, Kansas
12. Seattle – Mike Sweetney, PF, Georgetown
13. Memphis (from Houston) – Mickael Pietrus, SG/SF, France
14. Seattle (from Milwaukee) – Luke Ridnour, PG, Oregon
15. Orlando – Chris Kaman, C, Central Michigan
16. Boston – Reece Gaines, PG/SG, Louisville
17. Phoenix – Malick Badiane, PF/C, Senegal
18. New Orleans – Nick Collison, PF, Kansas
19. Utah – David West, PF, Xavier
20. Boston (from Philadelphia) – Zarko Cabarkapa, SF/PF, Serbia-Montenegro
21. Atlanta (from Indiana) – James Lang, PF/C, Cent. Park Christian HS
22. New Jersey – Aleksandar Pavlovic, SG/SF, Serbia-Montenegro
23. Portland – Carlos Delfino, SG/SF, Argentina
24. L.A. Lakers – Boris Diaw, PG/SG, France
25. Detroit – Leandrinho Barbosa, PG, Brazil
26. Minnesota – Troy Bell, PG, Boston College
27. Dallas (from Memphis) – Mario Austin, PF, Mississippi State

I realize the Cavs are on the clock for round 2. Honestly I have been going through alot and have had no time to prepare (see reply 20). If anyone wants to make this pick feel free. I could make one but it would be cosmetic and thusly would tarnish the integrity of the draft. My apologies for backing out.

In response to Reply # 0

NY needs a sg/sf(Jones is more of a sg)
They need someone to pick up the slack when Spree or Houston take a rest and Jones is the athletic spark off the bench that they need
He is also a potential starter(imo) for any team that gets him
Looks like Postell will be gone anyway(not that he was used that much) and NY could use another swing man on a team full of PGs and PFs
Good pick for NY
He is ready for the NBA(5th year senior) and will contribute right off the bat

http://www.nbadraft.net

Look who has the 30th pick
The first link is the official site of the knicks
Denver had just as big a chance to land Lebron as the Cavs cause they had the same record
For some reason, Denver won out and got the #1 pick in the 2nd round
Check for yourself

Well, honestly, I should have looked at the order you put in the first initial post but I didnt
I was just going by what I thought was common knowledge
Now I don't know who really has #30 because look at this from Cleveland's site

CAVALIERS ANNOUNCE GUND ARENA NBA DRAFT NIGHT CELEBRATION FOR THURSDAY, JUNE 26
The Cleveland Cavaliers will host their largest NBA draft night celebration ever at Gund Arena on Thursday, June 26, 2003, as the Cavaliers will officially announce LeBron James as their number one draft pick, and also make their second round selection with the 31st overall pick. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and admission is free
http://www.nba.com/cavs/news/

Knicks NBA Draft Central 2003
The New York Knicks will have the 9th, 30th, and 39th overall picks in the NBA Draft 2003, which will be held in New York City at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, June 26, 2003. This is the third straight year the event has been held at this venue. Live coverage of NBA Draft 2003 will start at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN Radio in the United States and Raptors NBATV in Canada.

http://www.nba.com/knicks/news/draft03.html

Both from nba.com

Like I said, my fault for not looking at the order you put in the first post
I think I am right though
It was probably a decision that was just recently made

the draft order I listed came directly off of NBA.com, the Knicks did have Denver's 2nd round pick, but it was #31, not #30. It's over and done now, I will be making a pick for Cleveland shortly at #31....

112. "#31 - Cleveland - Brian Cook, Illinois"
In response to Reply # 0

the Cavs get another big body to put down on the block with Ilgauskas, plus as a 4 year college player, he brings some maturity to a very young squad....

Strengths: Creates mismatches with his versatility as he has the ability to play both forward spots ... Shows solid post footwork when getting the ball on the block ... Prefers to catch the ball in the high post where his face up game is most effective ... Has the ability to make the 18 foot jumper with some regularity ... Great finisher around the basket where he is able to make difficult shots due to his long arms and soft touch ... Shows solid mobility for a player his size as he can run the court with ease ... Although not a spectacular rebounder but when motivated he can be a solid presence underneath the glass ... Great free throw shooter at his position ... Has a solid grasp of the fundamental aspect of the game ... Shows above average ball handling for his size ... Owns a great turnaround jump shot from 14 feet from the basket ... Does a good job of recognizing double teams ... Solid passer when he receives the ball in the high post ... Keeps the ball high after the post entry feed ...

Weaknesses: His desire is one big question mark, how badly does he want to improve? ... Athletically Cook lacks the explosive leaping ability needed to be an effective shot blocker ... Shot selection could stand improvement as he can settle for taking the perimeter jumper ... Although he has improved his back to the basket moves, he is still in need of development ... Needs to work on consistently taking opposing defenders off the dribble ... Lack of ball protection skills create a fair amount of turnovers ... Has the looks of a tweener in that he is without a true position in the NBA ... Can go through moments where his doesn't display much aggressiveness although he has improved this year ... Struggles at times when guarded by a physical defender ... Has 3-point range on his jumper but clearly can become too infatuated with firing from the top of the key ... Would benefit with adding 10-15 more pounds of muscle to his body if he is too play power forward ... Mental toughness leaves a little to be desired ... Defensively Cook must improve on playing better positional defense ... Can be foul prone from time to time ... Has problems getting the ball in the post as he doesn't always work to get good position ...

Is projecting the lakers to go after a big man first. But I don't think that from where we're at, the lakers would get a legit pf. There is an abundance of talent at the sg/sf position. diaw has scottie pippen potential all over him. 6'8" atheletic, great defender (guards AND sf), great passer and ball handler, can run the floor and finish strong, smart and unselfish. I'm surprised he slipped this far.

I felt picking on the assumption that the lakers would get either juwan or pj in free agency, we could kind of gamble on the pf pick. I thought about Tommy Smith. But he doesn't look like he'll gain alot of weight. Uche is solid.

I like this dudes defensive intensity, and he won Mountain West Defensive POY both years at UNLV. He can score and shoots at a high percentage, unlike some other PGs who have come out in recent years (*cough* jamaal tinsley tj ford *cough*). He's not a pure point guard, but did a better job last year of setting up his teammates. He's too small to ever put at the 2, but has the potential (whoops, there's that word) to develop into a fine 1 if he learns to distribute the ball better. And although he's short (6'1" or so), he's built (200 pounds) and holds his own on the glass and when bigger guards try to post him up. I'm a little surprised he fell this far, as most mock drafts have him as a first rounder.

I think so. NBA body, really great D, good enough handles and jumper to build upon. Why is he not a top half of the first round pick? Maybe I missed something. Is he especially slow? Looked good to me in the handful of games I saw.

He averaged 23.3 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots per game as a senior. Ebi led his Westbury Christian team to a state title in 2000 and 2001.

He has been a first team All-State selection his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Ebi competed in the USA Olympic Festival in 2001 and set festival records in points (139), field goals made (56) and field goals attempted (108). He was also named MVP of the Olympic Festival.

I'm not sure about his physical skills, but he's got good fundamentals. Too bad he doesn't have his dads height...

viewed lil piece on this cat on BBC/America. (show was about Euro players going to the draft) Dude can handle the ball well(almost like "whiteboy" Jason Williams with his passes) and he's quick. Hawks needs a PG...Euro PG's seem to be better at "pass-first-shoot-second" concept. Dikau needs to take his money and quit now. Terry was NEVER a good PG....

I pray for the Hawks......(bows head)

137. "#38 - Washington - Keith Bogans, Kentucky"
In response to Reply # 0

In the interest of time, the Commish is selecting for Washington keep the draft moving.

Bogans can be a good addition to a very young Washington team that definitely has room for growth. I think he could do very well here.

(From NBAdraft.net)
Strengths: Very athletic player who can explode to the basket and dunk with authority ... Excels in the open court where he has the ability to finish in a number of ways including reverse lay-ups, switching hands, or by drawing contact ... Capable ball handler that can play point guard for a short period of time as Bogans is a solid post passer ... Intelligent player who has a solid grasp of the fundamentals ... Has an NBA ready body strong enough to take a hit in the lane and finish a play ... Has 3-point range on his jumper ... Good rebounder due to his leaping ability ... Competitive player who wants the ball in his hands when the game is on the line ... Has shown leadership qualities at times but hasn't always displayed them due to his deferring of Tayshaun Prince ... Despite last year's slump, Bogan's work ethic should never be questioned ... Is a solid positional defender who does a good job of staying in front of his man ... Has the ability, when he gets hot, to take over a game ...

Weaknesses: When he is struggling with his jumper, his confidence has a tendency to wavier ... Should concentrate on getting himself to be a better team player, often he felt the need to take games over all by himself ... Mechanics on his jumpshot should be seriously tweaked as his jumper has a slow setup which goes from his waist to over his head ... Height, although he is listed at 6-5, on appearance he looks to be 6-4 so one has to wonder how this will effect his play against the bigger shooting guards of the NBA ... Focus wasn't all that great last season as he struggled to find a rhythm ... Has yet to develop a consistent mid-range game which is a must for a shooting guard ... Shot selection isn't all that great as he tends to fall in love with shooting from the outside when it could be to his advantage to drive to the basket ... Seems to struggle at times when he is playing in a half court offense as opposed to an open court offense ... Looks as though he might be a step slow in the NBA as his foot-speed is not the best ...

New York and Organ are up next with the 39th pick....

In response to Reply # 0

Me and Castro collaborated on this pick
We all know that NY is in dire need of "big men"(the players and coaches have complained about it in the past) even though they have about 6
The only one that is completely dependable is Kurt Thomas
For the record, we probably would have taken Bogans had he been available
I think that Beasley is a good pick here, but I really don't have much in depth analysis to add
We just needed some size and we thought he was the best big dude available

the Rockets draft Jon Ali, a 5'10 power forward from a club team @ Howard University.

Ali, a elbow throwing head banging demonic ranging beast of a power forward will be used to clean the boards and get all the loose balls back to yao & franchise...he has allready signed to the league mininum of 144,000, and is currently on a victory tour of Third Ward, Tx. When asked for a comment, the newly signed Rocket had this to say:

Eastern's all-time leading scorer. Never met a shot he didn't like. His field goal percentage and three point percentage were damn near identical throughout his career (both around an even 40%). Won't make the team, I just felt like wasting a pick on a local player. Probably'll end up being a prolific scorer in the CBA for a few years before heading overseas and making some decent chop.

The Nuggets select Zoran Planinic, a 6-6 Croatian combo guard who would easily be the steal of the draft at this slot.

Strengths: Owns great size for a point guard ... Smart player who understands how to run an offense efficiently ... Has a quick release on his jumper ... Competent shooter from behind the 3-point line ... Defensively he shows quick hands and solid anticipation skills that enable him to play the passing lanes for steals ... Does a good job of pushing the ball up the court to initiate the fast break ... Possesses above average court vision ... Patient, calculated player who reads the defense before attacking ... Great ball handler who owns an excellent left to right crossover to get by defenders ... Effective passer who looks to dish the ball off when he breaks down the defense ... Really has become a great shooter off screens when working without the ball ... Above average first step enables him to drive with some regularity ... Selective shooter who will not force up anything he deems not a great shot ... Uses his body well to shield off his defender on the drive ... Makes solid decisions when the ball is in his hands ...

Weaknesses: Really needs to bulk up and add some upper body strength to his slight frame ... Athletically he isn't a possessor of great quickness or leaping ability ... Needs to become a better post passer when traffic is in the lane ... Offensively his mid-range shooting off the dribble is inconsistent at times ... Has a tendency to leave his feet too early and force passes that can result in turnovers ... Has some problems finishing after contact because of upper body strength ... The injuries that he suffered last year have disrupted his progression this year ... This could have some teams wondering if he will be injury prone ... Has some leadership skills but could stand to be more vocally assertive as a point guard ... Although a solid shooter Planinic isn't all that great when it comes to making free throws ... Because he drives to the basket so aggressively he tends to get out of control ...

and apologies to my co-GM Zeno, who I doubt will care much anyway, the New Orleans Hornets select Brandin Knight of the University of Pittsburgh.

Yeah he's undersized and probably will fair worse than his brother, what do you expect this late in the draft? I'm at least taking someone I've seen play a bunch and who might be able to help spell the always ailing Baron Davis.

So the OKP mormon bias strikes again, and the road gold benefit. Don't know much about this guy, never saw him play, but last weeks mock draft had him going 17 overall in the 1st round. The latest one I've seen has him @ 40, so he's still a value pick at this pt. He also did very well at the indivual workout, so he's athletic enough. W/ Reggie pretty much done, we need a back up 2, someone to push Freddie Jones.

Besides, the hillbilies in Conseco will have another guy to blindly cheer 4 beside the sack of sh't Croshere.

dont worry, no one would have gone this route:

THE DALLAS MAVERICKS TAKE KEVIN JOHNSON, PF FROM UNIVERSITY OF TULSA.

total sentiment of another player pushed out the draft by retarded euro speculation.

After they lose Zo this offseason, the Heat will need somebody else to step in and play the "talented Center whose career is in jeapordy so he sits on the bench looking sad" role. They could try to pry Big T-Mac from the 6ers, but I think they may be better off taking a younger player like Marcus. He has a lot of upside, and could bring 5-10 solid years of rehabbing and re-breaking his ankle.

Hollis Price. Portland needs another defensive minded PG---Stoudamire won't be around too much longer. He won't have to start off the bat with McInnis in front of him but should be more than capable of backing him up. He's a good shooter and, most importantly, he's got a level head on his shoulders so he should cause Mo Cheeks no extra worries off the court.

Even if the other 2 picks dont get in, I think we did pretty good. Lets see how the real deal pans out.
