""Help me, Kobe Wan-Kenobi. You're my only hope" -- Shaq"

looks like someone needs an elite scorer to get some of that saggin D off him...a nigga who could drop 40+ a game in a series like it was nuffin

looks like someone needs a two guard who can actually make 3s

looks like someone needs a guy who knows how to get to the line

looks like someone needs a lockdown defender on the perimeter

that's too bad.

oh well

agreed.

there are more players in the league you can replace kobe with then there are that you can replace shaq with.

simple supply and demand.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

while all that may be true i still say kobe is easier replaced then shaq is.

there are 10 -15 great perimeter players in the league.
There are maybe 5 great big men in the league.

simple supply and demand.

as of right now, that statement hasnt been proven 100% to be true. Shaq went to a good team, Kobe was left with a project. This couldve been reversed

>
>there are 10 -15 great perimeter players in the league.

lets narrow that down to 4 or 5

>There are maybe 5 great big men in the league.

lets narrow this down to 2 or 3

maybe so about narrowing down the "great player" list... but i'd say guys like james, arenas, iverson, pierce, allen, carter, wade, nash, Mcgrady, jrich, hamilton, billups are a better crop to choose from then...
nowitzki, brand, duncan, bosh, Garnett, jamison, gasol, webber,j oneal, zach randolph, boozer, dhoward, ilgauskas

just my opinion, as far as 5+ years down the line i'd say trade shaq keep bryant

as far as who's better to build a team around to win now, i'd say trade bryant keep shaq.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

not saying its over.. we still got 5 more games to go but you knew the comments were coming today after a blowout loss and a 5 point effort....

Ima a shaq fan... i just felt they made the right business decision..

If you cant win with karl malone, kobe, gp, fisher, and shaq than it might be time to kiss your three rings and move on .....

the west was only getting better.., and the league was spared an Amare Stoudamire and Kurt Thomas front court with that West Conference finals Suns team

& it's equally true that LA, coming off a 4-1 @ss kickin' from the Pistons in the NBA finals, had to strongly considering moving in a new direction.

Shaq was on that Lakers team that got murderer in the Finals too. SA in 03 & Detroit in 04 handled LA rather easily. Why was it so unthinkable for them to trade Shaq considering the last 2 seasons he played there the team team came up short?

LA went on their run from 00-02..

The Spurs finally broke thru in 03.

LA got LUCKY in 04 vs SA (even the most objective Lakers fan will tell you that) only to be destroyed by the Pistons in the Finals.

You tell me what about losing 2 str8 years, both rather handily, after winning 3 str8 titles suggests that the run isn't over?

C'mon man, Shaq or no Shaq no one stays on top forever.
Ask Detroit & SA. - True story..

Brah,.. I grew up watching the Showtime Lakers. Magic was in his prime during the entire decade.

The guy who the this LA team was centered around (Shaq) was declining & unwilling to defer to Kobe. Had Shaq been winning to do for Kobe what he's done for Wade, you might have a point. Maybe Shaq needs a history lesson. He could asked Kareem about deferring to a younger superstar guard & maybe things woulda worked out.

Why do people act like LA didn't get handled in 03 by SA & in 04 by Det? What, should the Lakers front office just ignore that they didn't win chips those 2 season & they might not be as good as they once were?

That's what I don't understand.

because the fact of the matter is this: IF YOU LOOK AT KOBE AND SHAQ AND THEIR RESPECTIVE TEAMS, THE HEAT ARE FAR DEEPER AND MORE TALENTED THAN THE LAKERS. Miami is a playoff team without Shaq, the Lakers don't win 25 games without Kobe.

the heat traded PLAYOFF players TO the lakers for shaq....did u forget that?
it basically was shaq and a 2nd yr player
they got to the east finals ON THAT
then everybody said "o shit let me go sign wit miami and see if i can get this title"
lmao
yall niggas and this revisionist history

also u can blame that shitty team ON kobe!!!
the lakers basically bet the farm that kobe could carry a shitty team and apparently he can't......lakers lost
the lakers would have been better off trading kobe for odom straight up and getting finley or somebody to sign for the MLE

And apparently Shaq can't "carry" a GOOD team without Kobe. Just like I said in the "Shaq is sorry" post that got deleted, Shaq is used to Kobe actually winning games / series for him, and then him being able to pad his stats with superfluous thunderous dunks that make weak-minded people give him the credit for the win. Wade, as good as he is, isn't able to do what Kobe has done in the past...especially with NO help from Shaq

My thing is this: If Shaq is "the most dominant force in basketball", sincd he is being denied the ball and therefore can't score, why wasn't he crashing the offensive glass? You are 7'2" and weigh 330. So if you can't catch turn around and dunk all night, you refuse to do anything else? How many shots did Shaq block? How many shots did he even alter? And how is it that you let the much maligned Dampier and totally inexperienced Diop deny you all night anyway if you are so "dominant"? Shaq is being exposed as the selfish, lazy buster that he is. He needs to get on his knees and give thanks every day that he got the chance to play with a kid who held himself in check so Shaq could get all the glory and credit.

and not even one game ...the whole damn series. I'd argue if kobe wasn't so horrible that series the lakers might have 4 titles!
kobe couldn't even close out a 3-1 lead against a team wit NO defense

They've both failed to win a ring without the other. thing is one has been on really good teams basically his entire career.
...while the other...(in the TWO years he's played without the other)......his teams not even close.

you know that

shaq pull his bitchmove, but he still playing. and still could win.

Kobe pulled his bitchmove and then went home to Vanessa.

whenever its win or go home, it's different and more important.

shaq will live to fight another day. kobe was going home. so that's why his looks more like quiting on not just a game (like shaq)but on an entire season.

I know you trying to be funny.

but you really know the deal.

and Timmy Duncan would never go out like these two chumps did.
that's why he's the best.

yeah a needed Headache 2 Guard who just choked a 3-1 lead. yeah Kobe is truly needed.you never count Shaq out. D-Wade is starting to get cooking.this series ain't over. the biggest Problem facing Shaq though is not having that consistant play of cats from the past like Rick fox, Robert Horry,D-Fsher. Role Players who step up&Know there role. Gary, Posey are just taking up space thus far.

04 Pistons 95.3 PPGA
06 Pistons 103.1 PPGA

Don't you remember that streak of games in the 04 season where the Pistons were holding opponents to ridiculously low final scores??

There is no way that Dwade is better than Kobe.
That is,imo, unless getting injured in the clutch is 'more crunch time'. Kobe cleary has more experience, as well as three reasons why im giving him the ball over Wade. Wade hits the big shots w/ 4 minutes left, not seconds.

did the Lakers win that series yes or no? if you answered no then you don't have a leg to stand on in this discussion. D-Wade ain't done with. this series ain't over&last night wasn't Shaq's fault. He is in the finals.lets remember that. where is Kobe&the Lakers these days??

even tho Kobe's a notorious Mav killa. And, to be fair, Wade has played pretty well so we really shouldn't talking about Kobe vs. Wade.

This series doesn't look much different that LA vs DET in 04. Shaq + Kobe couldn't do anything with a much better team.

Dallas is just much better than Miami. They're too talented, deep & young for the Heat.

what good is a great shooting percentage if you're afraid to take shots past 20 feet in the Finals?

I'm not gonna sit here and say that Shaq don't need a TOP-TIER guard to get him over the top (I've been saying that for years)

But it's not D-Wade that's the problem...if anything he's the only one balling this series. I don't think that Kobe would've made much of a difference at all. The game(s) might've been closer, but the end result is still the same. The rest of the team is playing like doo-doo (including Shaq)...Wade isn't the problem

But I do think that Shaq is playing like the ultimate bitch. You talk all what shit about Dampier and then let him clown you in the paint.

Kobe wouldn't make that much of a difference in this situation ( esp if Shaq isn't putting up good #s ). Kobe & Shaq got murked by the Pistons in 04.

However, I think a lot Kobe fans got sick of people saying he didn't play a major roll in those 3 titles. Just <insert guy here> w/ Shaq & presto, you win titles. And while Kobe is more interchangable than Shaq, I don't see why Kobe & Tim Duncan couldn't have won 3 rings together.

Furthermore, the fact remains Shaq still doesn't have a ring w/o Kobe & it's beginning to look like it's going to remain that way barring a major swing in momentum in this series.

You're right tho, Wade is playing better than anyone else on the Heat. He's not the problem. This further confirms that this is his team, not Shaq's team.

He's averaging 25.5 ppg. He had a bad game in game 2, but still got 23, and he's getting to the line. He's doing more than his share

So I guess "balling" might be a stretch, but it's not like he's stinking it up...he's playing good ball. I can't say the same for the man in the middle though

...if they don't win this year. he's free agent after '06/'07, right?

...is d'wade, one of the leagues brightest up and coming stars, a player who's nowhere near his prime, gonna stick on with a miami team that's got 46M locked up in shaq, j-will, walker, and haslem through '07/08? and 29M locked up in shaq, walker, and haslem through '08/09?

...if payton and malone can't coattail-ride (like whoo-riding, but much more pussyfied) their way to a title this year, (what'll that be, three years running for each?) are they gonna stick around again, slowing down the team and metastasizing in the locker room?

...the heat's 08/09 guaranteed contract payout is already half what it is this year, and that's just locked up in ~three~ players. are they gonna be able to pay wade what he'll be able to command ~and~ get help enough to where an aging shaq can play the fewer and fewer minutes he'll be capable of? he's playing 30.6 minutes a game this season and he's not gonna get better. he's gonna get slower and slower and likely more injury prone unless he's somehow more motivated to stay in shape over the summer. (fat chance... pun intended)

...so what's wade gonna do, come july '07? is he gonna stick about with the big butterstick, antoine "fat person trapped in an athletic person's body" walker, and u-has? does he bolt? does he "pull a kobe" and use the threat of free agency to manipulate riles & co into giving him a solid base?

...also... if the mavs go up 3-0 and shaq's response during postgame talks is "give me the damn ball!", is kobe vindicated?

...kobe's gotta win again for complete vindication. fuck all that "he ain't got nothin' to prove 'cause he already won titles" bullshit some folks'll try to sell you on... kobe's gotta win 'cause it's what we fucking ~expect~... he's gotta win because of his haughty swagger... he's gotta win 'cause of his jordan biting mannerisms... the fist pump after the shot against the suns... all that shit... he's gotta win, 'cause he's a laughingstock if he doesn't... sure, a laughingstock that scored 81 and hypnotized all fans for games, seasons, years at a time... but a laughingstock nonetheless...

...i mean... all that bluster... talk of killer instinct and drive and fire and determination... if he doesn't make it back without shaq, well...

...but that's okay... 'cause i think he will make it back... within the next few years, even...

Once Kobe gets the pieces rebuilt on the Lakers, then we can start talking. Right now the Lakers are rebuilding. Slowly but surely. Improving steadily, but still has a ways to go with their personnel.

miami's down cuz dallas is younger and quicker and deeper.

Miami is also being outcoached right now. There are multiple things the heat could do to get the ball to shaq...unfortunately one of those things involves the phrase "Antoine Walker being smart and disciplined", lol

shaq has 4.5 defensive rebounds per game in a combined 33min a game.
eric dampier has 10 boards a game in 28min. his defensive rebounding is shaq's total average.

should pat suit up and get rebounds too?

wade has 3.5 offensive boards a game, yes you guessed, higher than shaq's. and by the way, dampier and wade are outrebounding shaq.

shaq has 2 blocks total, the same as dirk.

these are stats dominat centers are known to gobble, aside from scoring
for me it would make no difference if he was scoring 25 or 30 a game.

cuz i don't really ride for kobe OR shaq like that. Matter of fact, i think shaq has underachieved and kobe's overrated.

Now with that being said, a big part of shaq not scoring is him not getting good looks or very many touches. Shaq ain't a guard. He's dependent on others to get him the ball. If he only gets 5 - 10 shots a game, that ain't totally his fault.

Point is, neither one of these cats is winning a ring without a decent team around them, period.

so now miami's team is not decent? wow

the fact is that dirk's rebounding numbers are twice that of shaq. just in game 2 he had more boards than shaq has had the entire series.

dallas is younger, quicker, faster, deeper, and better coached than miami right about now.

The mavs got multiple players with height and speed to outposition shaq (i always said ol' boy was an underachieving rebounder).

And kobe and shq together lost to a better more athletic team in detroit couple years back right? So the whole shaq or kobe thing is bullshit.

The heat's a good team, but they gonna need some better coaching, and effort to even be able to fuck with dallas's depth.

I honestly have no idea what the hell point you tryin to make btw.

Any team Shaq plays on, would probably be a contender. You can't say the same for Kobe. Including the Lakers. Put Shaq back on the Lakers right now, and they would be a contender again. Doesn't mean they would win it all, but they would be one of the top 5 teams in the league.

Stop this circular argument. Its ridiculous. Kobe has never won a playoff series without Shaq.

I'll say it again...a team with Shaq is automatically a contender, and you can't say the same about Kobe. Its the nature of basketball...a dominant big man is more of a sure bet than a great guard.

that might be true...but it doesn't matter. bottom line is shaq has had plenty of years to win without kobe. on pretty good teams. he has not.

kobe has had 2 years to win without shaq. on shitty teams. he has not either.

basaglia's point...my point as well...is that shaq needs kobe to get that ring. lol i mean it's been proven...let's not beat around the bush here. i mean he's yet to win a finals game when kobe's not out there on the court with him. now, this might sound crazy...but it really hasn't been proven with kobe yet. he hasn't been to the finals to have a chance. he's only had TWO years. two years with bad teams. he hasn't really had the chance to lead a GOOD team. I mean he's only one man. he almost led em to the second round...but his team just wasn't good enough. until kobe fails to win on a pretty decent team (like the ones shaq's been on his entire career)...we can't really judge how much he needs shaq.

i dont think shaq will ever win without kobe. but that's just my opinion. we'll see if kobe ever wins without him.

The Lakers are bad, because they don't have Shaq. You keep using that as an excuse for Kobe, and thats the very point.

Its IMPOSSIBLE for Shaq to be on a "bad" team. Shaq could very well win the title this year, without Kobe. Wade didn't look too bad last night, with 42 points and 13 rebounds. You keep talking about what Shaq hasn't done without Kobe...well we know he's been a helluva lot closer than Kobe ever WILL be without Shaq.

And in what universe does losing in the first round equate to making it to the Finals? Are you guys watching basketball? You're seriously saying that Shaq, going to Miami and going to the ECF and then the NBA Finals in consecutive years "doesn't matter?" You don't think the Lakers would have rather done that?

anyone would argue that Shaq in his prime is a bigger factor than Kobe.

However, having Shaq doesn't guarantee a title or even an NBA finals appearance. Teams w/ Shaq have been beaten regardless of the fact that having him generally gives you an edge.

That being said, LA wasn't "bad" this season since they had a won 45 games in the West & had a 3-1 lead on the #2 seed in the first rd of the playoffs.

If the Lakeshow had Shaq, they would be better but the standard was & always will be winning titles in LA. That's why they have 14. And in case you missed the 04 NBA Finals, a very game Shaq lead Lakers squad got their @sses handed to them in 5 games.

of course he's been closer, he's been on better teams! HEEEEELLLLLLOOOOOOOOOO. that's the reason.

I think the better question is does Kobe need Shaq to win a title. Shaq has proven that he can at least get there without Kobe. Kobe hasn't proven he can win a playoff series without Shaq.

I know Shaq has been on better teams...he made them better. LOL. Miami was what, 40-42 the year before Shaq arrived? Maybe 41-41, I don't feel like looking it up. In the Eastern conference at that. He comes, they're in Game 7 of the WCF.

Saying Shaq needs Kobe specifically is ridiculous. Of course he needs HELP, as all players do. Especially now because he's nowhere near the player he was. But Dwayne Wade is playing as well right now as Kobe did during any of the championship runs. Shaq is not missing Kobe.

here...i'll try one more time.

we're comparing kobe's 2 solo years without shaq (and without another great player) to shaq's 6 years without kobe (and you wanna forget he had another great player playin with him whether he was on orlando or miami).

lol....what's wrong with you?

his supporting cast on orlando and miami was/is still much better than anything kobe's had in his two years as leader son. stop beating around the bush. basketball's a team sport, last time i checked. you dont have a good team, you aint winnin shit. the GOAT didnt win till he got some players around him.

>
>Saying Shaq needs Kobe specifically is ridiculous. Of course
>he needs HELP, as all players do.

I said he needs him specifically. To. Win. A. Championship......he doesnt need kobe to just succeed. So far my point hasn't been proven wrong. And it won't be.

Especially now because he's
>nowhere near the player he was. But Dwayne Wade is playing as
>well right now as Kobe did during any of the championship
>runs.

I can't believe i have to constantly break this shit down for niggaz on okp...
When kobe had shaq, he was in his prime. kobe couldn't score 40+ in the finals because he wasn't allowed to. phil wouldn't let him, shaq wouldn't let him. he saved those games for the playoff series's before the finals...when we played the tougher western conference.
In the finals he had shaq in the paint who couldn't be defended for shit by any of those east team's big men. wade gets to step up because shaq aint the same and because dallas can actually defend him effectively....the heat are actually playing the best team in the league in the nba finals. the lakers didnt.

>Shaq is not missing Kobe.

lol oh he will when miami gets beat by dallas, and shaq retires with rings he's only won with one of the 3 superstar guards he played with. if he had kobe now, the city of miami would have their parade next week. don't get mad, just face facts.

You can kid yourself into thinking Shaq is missing Kobe. If Miami loses, it won't be because Shaq didn't have Kobe. It will probably have more to do with his horrible free-throw shooting. He's always been bad, but he damn near missed enough for Miami to be up 3-0. If he can "improve" to 50% Miami stands a good chance.

I'm sure Shaq was satisfied with Wade's 42 and 13 last night.

Do you think Kobe is happy with Chris Mihm?

I can't believe you are arguing that Shaq is missing Kobe. LOL.

But you won't acknowledge the fact that Kobe SORELY misses Shaq.

>Miami loses, it won't be because Shaq didn't have Kobe.

lol okay.

*edit* you know what, i typed all these rebuttals to your points

but then i realized....that's a waste of time.

this is really all that matters:

1. dallas is the better team.

2. if it was shaq and kobe, it'd be different.

3. therefore...miami will lose.

kobe doesn't need shaq to succeed. he just needs a better team. just like shaq doesn't need kobe to succeed, he just needs another great player. but he does need kobe to win it all. it's been proven. he's been there twice without him, and will lose twice.

whether kobe needs shaq to win it all is yet to be seen. he hasn't even gotten good players around him to take to the finals TO SEE IF HE CAN WIN YET! Shaq has had good players with him his entire career...he got the help to get to the finals... he didnt win.... end of story.

2 years with trash around him, and he's supposed to win a championship?! or else "he's proven he needs shaq" and "can't win without him?!" lmao. that's ridiculous. i mean, he might as well retire right now then lol. what's the use of playing.

Your #2 is wrong. Stop acting like Shaq and Kobe were unbeatable, lol. Miami wouldn't be any better than they are now if you replace Wade with Kobe.

How long should we give Kobe to prove he didn't need Shaq? LOL. Next year at this time, you'll be saying "Its only been 3 years."

Who is the only team to beat Shaq in a series since he left L.A.? Detroit.

What happened when he had Kobe, against that same team? They got their ass handed to them.

He didn't miss Kobe at all. Detroit was just better. Detroit would have been better, even if he had Kobe. In fact, Detroit was better in '04! LOL.

He doesn't miss Kobe now.

im just sayin man. it's unfair cause the circumstances between the two players have obviously been different. give kobe a good team, see what he can do.

what the hell....? lmao what are you tryna say? i never said the two together were invincible. shaq was outhustled that series, we couldn't get a board. kobe was tryna win finals mvp instead of playin team ball. everybody else disappeared. we weren't playing like a team. detroit that year was the better team. the hell does that have to do with the fact that shaq needs kobe to get a ring?

look homie.... all that's been proven so far is that shaq can carry a good team pretty far, but not to a ring... while kobe can carry a shitty team into the playoffs, but not all that far.

that's it.

>He doesn't miss Kobe now.

yesss....you keep telling yourself that.

ahaaaaaaaaaaaaa.........that's some funny stuff.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

In response to Reply # 0

shaq has been to the finals with three good teams (orlando, lakers, heat) and if things continue the way they are going, he will have only won with one...the team with kobe on it.

if he doesn't get a ring with wade, it will be really hard
to say kobe wasn't integral to his rings.

meanwhile, kobe has only had ONE good team, and shaq was on it. however, until kobe has ANOTHER good team, the verdict is still WAY out on him.

time is on kobe's side, too. shaq is prolly done in two years, tops. kobe still has five or six left in the tank, prolly.

if kobe wins another ring at any point in his career, and shaq doesn't, i'd say kobe gets the nod.

Maybe you're ass should go sit on kobe's couch with him...At least then you'd be able to throw lips to it finally
