yes....

many nba coaches get their start in the NBA...

new york has an understudy, ex coach from northwestern, assisting van gundy

i think the trend where college coaches enter the NBA is dying down due to lack of success (pitino (kentucky), calipari (umass), pj carleismo (seton hall)

many gm's may be scared off especially by pitino's failure of his 4 year plan in which he guaranteed the celtics to make the playoffs....

only thing pitino is guaranteed of now is exiting boston at season's end

they are an assistant 1st then move to head coach...i think the same applies for the nfl....to me you would have to be a straight up fool to leave a winning college program to coach in the pros....yeah the money is a lil' better but more than likely you'll be fired in 2 years just like everyone else!!!....the college game is geared toward true "coaching" (teaching the finer points of the given sport) whereas on a professional level your title should actually be "manager" instead of coach, because you need to be able to juggle egos and personalities first and foremost before you even dive into x's and o's....hell i live in acc country where coach k and the former coach dean smith are walking gods, but if either one of them (bobby bowden/joe paterno included) went on to coach a pro team i think they would fail miserably.

Good coaches are hard to come by no matter where they come from. In Pitino's case, the lottery balls of '97 sealed his fate. If the Celts had drafted Tim Duncan, they'd be a playoff contender(Although some would argue that Duncan's development is partially attributed to the Admiral). I also think that coaches shouldn't be GM's, they should pick one or the other, and that was also Rick's downfall. I also agree that college coaches should observe the game first, i.e. Larry Brown. And finally, you can't forcefeed plays and college methods on grown ass men making more than you. You have to observe sometimes, yell at others, crack jokes, and whatever it takes to keep a competitive, yet light atmosphere. That's what makes the Zen master so good.

"If we don't meet no more in this world, I'll meet you in the next one, and don't be late..." Jimi Hendrix

Why must you be unfaithful? For women..
Men, you shouldn't listen to your selfish heart
It doesn't really have a brain
Besides keepin you alive, it's existence is in vain
And how could I be so mean, and say your heart has no place?
Because mortal men fall in love again
as fast as they change their face
I may be cruel, but think awhile about the hearts that you have broken
and match that, with the empty vows and broken promises you've spoken
Now I'm not saying females are perfect
cause we know, it's not true
But why must you be unfaithful
if her heart is true to you?--Tupac Shakur
