nobody will really remember the last sack if the record holds as long as Gastineau's...
there's a lot of examples from baseball in which certain players were "given" records. And don't tell me Chan Ho Park didn't groove that one to Cal in the all-star game.
But like I said, history will remember the statistics but forget the details.

What baseball records were you referring to?
Getting the sack record wasn't a sure thing, and I think that's what made that play stand out (read: more offensive to fans). It wasn't as though he had a lot games left and breaking the record was a formality--I think that's the difference.
And Park did groove that pitch to Cal, no lie, but at least it wasn't interfering with the integrity of a long-standing record.

the thing that makes it not so bad in my eyes is the fact that they made it a point not to let him get a sack the whole game, had they been playing normally he would have broken the record, they cheated him out of some sacks throughout the game so it dont seem so wrong that they gave him one at the end out of respect

too many players get records without actually earning them.
