"The Official 2017 NBA Prospect Thread 4 Thruthiness and Justivity"

The week of the draft. You know the drill.

I'll list the prospects, you list your thoughts, as detailed or as basic ("he'll be good"/"he'll be sorry") as you want. As meticulously bias-free as possible or as blindly agenda-driven as you want.

Get on record before these guys play a single NBA game as to how you think they'll pan out. Stake claims, "buy stock," etc.

I think he has the talent but is somewhat raw. Has alot of ability and is a hard worker. In Philly, if they are healthy, he'll be able to learn along with the other guys. Borderline all start in 3-4 years!

if he's in Philly, what other crazy dominant guards in the East does he have to surpass? guards dominate the West but the East is pretty open.

he'll be averaging 20 points, 7 dimes and 7 boards by season 3, maybe sooner.

Beyond Wall and Kyrie, thats about it. Kyle Lowry opting out but he might be heading West. And I was never a true believer in him anyway...

Everyone talks about Ball as the PG savant in this class, but Fultz had a notably higher assist rate than Ball despite Ball having the best jumpshooting team in the country around him and Fultz having easily one of the worst. Add to that that he shot a crazy percentage despite literally *everyone* on the floor knowing he was the sole offensive threat, and you're talking about a highly-efficient, do-it-all guard. Also has a nose for boards, also plays better D than he gets credit for.

The people knocking him for not winning in Washington don't know what they're talking about. I watched them play several times and they didn't lose due to lack of effort on his part. He was out there hustling, trying to carry those bums, night in and night out, all by himself. He was the epitome of a one-man team-- and in a major conference, you can't succeed as a one-man team.

Worst case scenario, Fultz will put up big-time numbers on mediocre teams. Best case scenario, All-Star face of franchise type of dude.

Smith is a bit different type of player and has some injury concerns but I'd rate him ahead of Ball also. Fultz/Ball not a question, more efficient distributor and scorer. Hard to evaluate his defense for me but he will have time to grow and a good defensive coach.

His dad did him no favors, not from all the talking about himself or the business but comparing him to Curry and others. I admire the confidence but lets see him play against elite competition first.

He has great court vision, an unusual shot motion but it goes in at a pretty good clip and a natural floor general. Depending on his situation, maybe an all-star in years to come but he has a bulls-eye on him. He will need others around him for him to flourish.

He would have been perfect for the sixers and he's designed for 'Antoni ball.

If a coach/organization can nurture his Kiddisms and add some defensive competencies plus a little reconstruction of his J, he'll be special.

If not, stat padding, top 5 assist ranking annually, not much winning.

In response to Reply # 137

I don't think he can be counted on to put up points himself next level, and I've noted my concerns about what he does defensively elsewhere. So if you're a team who's got pieces and you need a guy to find them on the floor, he's your man. He understands that part of the game beautifully-- it's why so many are enamored with him.

However, if he'd somehow ended up in Sacramento or Orlando, where he doesn't really have shooters/scorers around him, I think it really wouldn't go well for him. I know he shot a really high percentage at UCLA, but I'm not convinced defenders with NBA size, length, and speed can't stop that hip-side starting point to his jumper.

If he's playing alongside Russell, Ingram, and George, I think he'd shine. Somewhere where he can be the fourth scoring option or so and just focus on doing what he does best: creating for others. If he's in a big market like LA putting up silly assist numbers, he will rightly get national love. I'm just not convinced he's the second (or maybe even the third) best PG in this draft.

In response to Reply # 162

Mark Price made MKG respectable from mid range and Kevin Martin had a very successful NBA career with just as hitchy of a shot.

I think Lonzo will simply have to figure out how to guard NBA 1's. Fox showed him what he'd have to deal with night in and out in the tourney this year.

They are gonna have to make him commit to at least being passable. But if he became a 15-17ppg/9-10apg/5-6rpg guy, his career would be golden. Peak Ball should be 17/10/6 and nothing is wrong with that.

In response to Reply # 228

A) Ball's shot starts lower than Martin's did, if memory serves-- my concern is less about a hitch and more about how low Ball always starts his jumper.

B) Martin consistently shot 85%ish from the FT stripe dating back to college, and Ball did 67% from the stripe last year, so combine that with the form, and I think there's at least some reasoning behind the concern over the jumper.

I think Ball's J will be fine if he's the third/fourth scoring option and isn't asked to do much more than take them when he has the looks-- and I think he'd have that on the Lakers. I just mean that if he's being asked to create looks for himself and make contested jumpers like he did in college against inferior defenders, I'm skeptical about his ability to do that with his current form.

Really similar:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFNwqYaEPaA

Like Kidd he's a big guard who uses his size advantage well, smart, elite on the break, can lead a team. He doesn't embrace contact like Kidd did tho. Turnovers are high, he might have problems early.

If his college jumper is real, he'll be a star.
If not, he'll be Rubio.

kidd also had a lot of turnovers at early points in his career but it was often because other players didn't see the game the way he did. kidd reminded me of something guy lafleur said, that he threw the pass where the guy was supposed to be and if the guy wasn't there, then it was his fault. that happened in both dallas and phoenix, some in college.

but i don't see that with ball. he is still figuring things out more than kidd was and i don't think he is as strong as kidd was, though he does have a projectable frame for sure.

Most NBA ready body, hard worker, and has alot of potential. He can be either a glue guy (in line with Winslow also from Duke) or blossom into a less athetic Andrew Wiggins. Either way, most ready prospect in the draft. If he develops a 3/ more consisten mid range game, look out.

163. "My pros and cons, copy/pasted from elsewhere:"
In response to Reply # 3

Pros:

- The best isolation offense player in the draft, period. Has an insane number of offensive moves for a kid with his size. Smooth handles, strong footwork, terrific finish. Put a big defender on him, and he's too crafty and quick for most defenders to deal. Put a smaller defender on him, and he can back most smaller defenders down and finish with a terrific turnaround J. He ranked in the 99% percentile in efficiency on post possessions in college ball last season.

- Prototypical size for a SF, but with some added weight/muscle, he's a strong enough rebounder, shot-blocker, and finisher inside to maybe play some small-ball PF.

- People will point at his 34% outside shot last year as a negative, and he started the year ROUGH... but he shot 52% from 3 over the last two months of the season, and his 85% free throw stroke is pure. Kid can shoot from just about anywhere, and I expect him to only get better.

- Strong potential as a defender. Fills the stat sheets with steals and blocks, can defend any forwards and can hold his own on switches against guards for the most part. Was easily Duke's best perimeter defender this season and consistently made big plays on both sides of the ball.

Cons:

- While he showed good potential as a playmaker-- his passing is surprisingly crisp-- his critics will be quick to point out that he loves loves loves isolation offense and he had a tendency last year, especially at the start of the season, to choose difficult contested shots over the "smart play." This got better as the season went on... but the guy openly admires Kobe, and it's fair to wonder whether you'll get the bad with the good when a player so talented on offense emulates Kobe's one-on-one ball-stopping style.

- He was as strong an offensive talent as there was in college ball last year, but he was a superior athlete to most anyone he'd face. He has a good first step, but he's not the most explosive or athletic prospect in the draft. Strong length and size, good positional speed, but he won't outjump or outburst some NBA wings.

- Related to the previous post, his handles need to continue to improve-- he's got strong handles for college, and he has good wiggle, but he'll have to keep developing to put work in on the stronger and more athletic wing defenders.

- His defense tended to get worse the farther inside he was forced to play-- he tends to get a little more upright than one would like when facing a post-up or when coming to help on a driving player. This is common for most players this young, and I expect him to improve, but I wouldn't be surprised by some initial defensive struggles as he adjusts to the game.

Overall:

Someone who can crush in iso on offense and who absolutely has the tools-- more tools than Jabari showed in college-- to make the extra pass, to harass passing lanes, and to be a strong well-rounded player on both ends. I think a reasonable median expectation is a healthy Jabari with higher two-way potential.

Jabari was the better rebounder. He was also the all-around better scorer in college, but to be fair, he had a much higher usage rate than Tatum did and got to work all summer, whereas Tatum missed some development time due to injury. I also think Tatum ended the season much stronger than Parker did-- Tatum shot 52% from 3 the last two months of his college career, while Parker's outside J all but vanished down the stretch. Both are elite offensive prospects, as both crushed it with a series of step-backs and post moves that no one could really match.

Parker was unquestionably stronger, but Tatum is faster. This gives him more defensive potential and more of a true position than Parker really had coming out-- Tatum was also a much better defender in college than Parker was, though to be fair, Parker was forced to play out of position due to roster problems that season at Duke. I'd say Tatum is the better ball handler, and despite having a chucker reputation, Tatum is likely the better passer. Parker is seen as the better leader/higher IQ guy, generally speaking, though I don't think Tatum is a slouch in these areas either.

Ultimately though, it doesn't really matter what they did in their sole college seasons, as I think Parker was always going to be viewed as the better prospect because of what a non-stop winner he was in high school, winning four straight state titles. Tatum is no slouch, and I think he may well be a more well-rounded prospect, but in terms of "how they were viewed," I think Parker's legendary high school career ultimately gives him the edge in terms of sheer perception.

38% from 3 compared to 34% for Wiggins as freshmen.

I'm not saying he doesn't need to work on his stroke (he does), just pointing out that he delivered on that J from distance better than Wiggins really ever has over the course of a season, even dating back to HS if memory serves.

Don't think he can play the four in the pros, so can he shoot well enough to play the 3? Not really worried about him guarding SFs but the offensive end is still in question. He has some tools. I wish I could have seen him more/play another year to really decide.

Was better than Wiggins in college, for whatever that's worth. Shot from outside better, displayed better on-the-floor IQ, played better defense, tried more consistently. Wasn't quite the freak of nature Wiggins was physically, but made up for it elsewhere. Strong rebounder for his size, strong playmaker.

The stroke needs some fixing-- his FT shooting isn't good. His aggressiveness is good, but it's also gotten him into foul trouble in college, and that will only be exacerbated next level early on. I'm not one to sweat off-the-floor issues much in college, but I'm sure he'll be asked a lot about them early on too-- any guy that publicly threatens to beat a woman's ass and fucks up her car might have some negative publicity around him once he leaves the safety net of Lawrence.

Still, really high floor-- two-way player, high IQ, high motor. Those things go a long way. If he can make jumpers at a high clip, he can absolutely be a Paul George type of dude. That's a big if, but I get the temptation.

If that doesn't tell you what kid could be with full health, I don't know what will. He can do a ton. Not a good defender at present, but that hasn't kept flashy guards who can score in bunches from All-Star status before.

My one concern: he definitely would quit in games that weren't going his way. Unlike Fultz, who tended to keep trying even when his bum teammates were putting the game into beatdown territory, Smith would just stop shooting and/or trying. I'm not blaming him, really, for doing this in college... but he very well may end up on a bad team like Sacramento or Orlando, and if shit isn't going his way this season, I wonder the degree to which he'll continually hustle.

Still, he'll put up numbers, make eye-opening plays, and won't be shy about trying to take on the big dogs. He's in all likelihood a top 3 PG in this draft but won't be drafted like one... so someone is getting a steal.

I was just wondering if he really thought all these players were busts or if he was trolling.

At any rate, if you want to issue instructions on when and how posters should or shouldn't interact with other posters, you should talk to your boy about those name calling tantrums he throws whenever someone says anything but blind and overwhelming praise about one of his Agenda players.

If you just tell your bff to give his antics a rest, you won't have to go back and edit multiple train wrecks this week where you tell people to ignore each other afterward because he's incapable of having a reasonably disagreeable discussion without the theatrics.

We just watched Wall get the Wiz within range of an ECF, so you'd think people would look at a kid who has the tools to be the next Wall and be all-in.

He's insanely fast and insanely aggressive. He had a high assist rate in college, high FT rate. Plays really tough defense. Finishes at the cup really well. Wants the ball in his hands at game's end. There's a lot to like.

Yes, the outside jumper isn't good... but he made nearly 75% from the FT line, so I'm not even convinced it's irrevocably broken-- his FT stroke was better than Fultz, Ball, or Smith's. If he even gets to the mid-30s on his outside jumper percentage, this guy absolutely has All-Star potential. He's a freak.

rookie year: 13/6/3/1.5 stl
career: mike conley 2.0, gonna sort out his jumper eventually, 16/8/4/2, might make one ASG

The potential is obvious, but he lacks strength, discipline, physicality, and motor. He's all finesse right now, all "let the game come to me." With his size and length and athleticism, he should be better than what he was last year... and he obviously still can be, but it'd be easy to see him going somewhere like Sacramento and simply failing to do anything of real note. He needs a good nurturing environment, and a good strength and conditioning coach, to help him reach his considerable potential. High risk, high reward.

Nowadays *anyone* can use a player with his size who can shoot like him. I don't care if he becomes one-dimensional, that's a hell of a dimension. He's comfortable shooting off the bounce, finishes with finesse, and moves really quickly for his size.

Not a great defender, not a great rebounder for how big he is, and the "next Dirk" shit was an OBVIOUS cyse... but shit, if you have a chance at a guy who could be, say, a Ryan Anderson type of dude, you absolutely take him top 10.

I actually like that poor man's JR floor that TRBO said above. He'll never ever ever be shy, and he might shoot you out of a few games, but he can also singlehandedly win you games when he's going.

He's definitely not a PG, but he does have a PG's body, which is an interesting dilemma for teams. I don't love his handles, I don't think he's a good on-the-ball defender today, and the downside is obviously that if his shot's not falling, he's *basically* giving you nothing.

Still, he's got speed and athleticism along with a jumper that can get very wet very quickly, so I'd take him top 10. Has a ceiling as a good starting 2 guard, floor as a nice spark-off-the-bench guy.

He's 6'2 but with a 6'10 wingspan and really good strength. He's probably the most disruptive guard in the draft defensively. Elite ball hawk. High motor, good leader. Elite leaper in the draft-- he'll put up highlight reel dunks regularly.

That said, he's not a point guard at all, and he's too short to realistically play the 2 despite his wingspan. His jumper, while it improved by Justin Jackson leaps and bounds, is really hot-and-cold and would need to continue improving to be called reliable. A little turnover-prone, maybe because he tries to get to the rim at will and tries to see over defenders and projects to struggle with both at the next level.

Ultimately, an elite defender with elite athleticism and length belongs in the NBA... but unless he can learn how to play point or ends up playing with a two guard that wants to be the primary ballhandler, I struggle to see him starting.

Dude is just a basketball savant. His offensive bag of tricks is next-level, and he can score with great efficiency from *anywhere.* He's just a guy who always makes the right play.

Put it this way: he just had the most efficient offensive season of any player in Duke HISTORY. Yep, more than Laettner or Grant Hill or Jay Will or Brand or Redick or etc. Ever. That's saying something about how he fills it up.

And it's not just filling it up. For a guy his size, he grabs a lot of boards. He has crafty handles. He's a really gifted passer, and while I wouldn't play him at the point, he's a guy who is perfectly suited to earn a few dimes a game making the second pass.

People clown the defense, which is largely rooted in his freshman year, in which one could argue he was the worst defender in the ACC if Cat Barber didn't exist. However, last year, while still not great, he showed enough improvement that I think he's working his ass off to get better. He's never going to be a stopper-- but all he has to do is be *not fucking awful* in order to be a possible NBA starter. He appeared to be on the JJ Redick defense improvement trajectory in school, so I like him to be a passable, not horrible, defender by Year 3 or 4. He'll always get burned by the quicker and stronger guys, but he'll, like JJ, figure out how to stay in front enough and prevent passes enough to not be a waste on that end.

IF he can do that (not a lock, but odds aren't as awful as folks would think imo), he could be a starting piece on a really good team. Dude has a knack for the big shot, the big play, the big pass. Anyone who can shoot like that with that sort of IQ has a place in the league imo. And even if that doesn't work out, I expect him on an NBA bench at age 30, still coming in to drain 3s.

In response to Reply # 13

1. He loves physical play. He's kind of a dick on the floor, honestly-- this isn't some Cody Zeller shit where you get in his grill and disrupt his talent. He wants to get in your grill first. He's a strong rebounder and shot blocker, and he's got the frame to add serious muscle over the next couple of years.

2. With the game going to stretch bigs more and more, Collins shot over 40% from 3 last year, and I fully expect him to continue to explore that part of his game as a pro. He's a really good defender (though I imagine he'll remain a bit foul prone the first couple of years while he puts muscle on), and he has terrific speed and lateral quickness for a guy his size, ideal for defending the PNR or even other stretch bigs.

He needs to work on some basic big man stuff if he wants to stretch outside consistently, like handles and passing, but if you've got an athletic dude with NBA positional size, elite lateral quickness for 7 feet, who doesn't shy away from physical play but can also step outside and hit the 3? And a guy with the capacity to be an 80ish percent free throw shooter? Yeah. I like him. He'll stick around, and we'll see how far along he is by Year 3... and with the relative lack of star NBA centers in the league, this guy carries real value. On the right team, wouldn't surprise me if he ends up as one of those weird centers who earns a random All-Star bid one year, a la Chris Kaman or Jamaal Magloire.

Olynyk was the better defender by the end of his career in that he understood the game and wouldn't commit frustration fouls like that, he was the better passer out of the paint, and he probably had the better feel for the game by the draft (largely because he was 3+ years older)... but Collins has the higher potential in his game in most every other capacity. He'll fill a similar role to Olynyk in the pros, except with a higher ceiling.

The tools are there, so he'll be around a while, but if he wants to be more than a role player, he has to get better on defense. He's bad at PNR, his awareness kind of sucks, he makes lazy fouls, and outside of looking for blocks and defensive rebounds, he won't give much of anything.

He's also a 4 in terms of size for the most part-- especially because he's pretty lean-- yet the game is moving to jumpshooting 4s, and that's not his strength at all. He's got a soft touch, but he has to move that out a few feet to get some reliable midrange going. Still, the form looks decent enough that he could potentially add that... I'm just not really sold that he'll be more than a John Henson sort of bench guy. Should be good for Survivor, though.

Dude passes the eye test-- he moves really smoothly and quickly for a guy his size due to not becoming a big til like senior year of high school, so he's got that thing where he moves like a guard or wing still. Really good defender, and he also showed some ability to step out and hit 3s (note: his FT shooting is still bad, so not sure how fluky that is... but it's still really nice to see in a prospect so raw), which would be great in the pros.

He's skinny, so if he wants to play the 5, he'll have to keep bulking, or he'll have to focus on that jumper and be, like, a 7 foot stretch forward. It'll be interesting to see how a team uses him. He's also got to work on rebounding, as those numbers are a little low for his size, but considering he only started playing in the post a couple of years ago, you've got to love what you see.

He's a classic Fran Cysechilla "could be a star in four years" type of guy. I like his odds at hanging around at bare minimum, and he's a terrific value in the mid-first as a guy who could blow the fuck up.

Good as secondary ball-handler, not a scorer, potentially elite defensively. Needs to be put in a right system, somewhere he's not expected to be primary playmaker or scorer. Think Dallas or San Antonio.

I rode on him hard for his bad shooting until this season, when it spiked-- albeit in giant games, mixed in with the occasional really bad game. I'm still not convinced this wasn't a Justin Andersonesque hot streak that he's capitalizing on rather than a full-blown trend to 40% shooter status, but hey, the potential is there and that should get him drafted lottery.

He also wasn't a very good defender until, say, the second half of this season, when he *really* locked the fuck in on that end and was incredibly disruptive. If that and the shooting stay where they are, then he can be a 3-and-D guy with the bonus of that floater that he's mastered over the years. That should be good enough to start, frankly.

If those regress, then I'll go back to where I was after his junior year, wondering what he brings to the table as a pro to earn playing time. But as long as he's either shooting well or defending well, he should stick.

Huge, strong wing with elite lateral speed and wingspan. Gritty defender, crashes the boards hard. Could make a terrific small ball 4 on the right team, potentially. Stat stuffer on steals and blocks.

That said, has a ways to go before locking him into a starting lineup. He has to work on his jumper, as right now his outside shot and FT are a bit of a struggle. If he made 36% from 3 and closer to 70% from the FT line, he'd be an absolute lock for the lottery, and he'd maybe sniff top 10. He has a ways to go to get there though. He also needs to work on his handles a good amount.

Still, if Thabo Sefolosha has stuck around for a decade and Andre Roberson has stuck as a pro without making jumpers, Anunoby has much higher upside, so I don't think there's danger of him bombing (health permitting, obviously)-- he just has to find the right fit, a team that will help that jumper come along so that he can be anything more than a zero as a shooter/creator. Combine even a little there with his elite defensive potential, and you've got a high-level defender who you can bring in to disrupt opponents, run the floor, steal/block/board.

If he can stay on a court, his absolute worst-case scenario is an elite rebounder/shot blocker type who comes off the bench and gives you good big man minutes. He's shown the goods in HS to be a strong offensive player, step out and hit mid-rangers, etc. If that comes back and he stays on the court, he'll be a hell of a bargain wherever he's taken. There's star potential, but the "if" is just so crazy high and he'd been away from the game for so long that he's impossible to really project.

Right now, he just needs time to let his feel for the game return. He struggled with shooting and defensive consistency at Duke. If those things don't come back, he's a 10 mpg guy. If they do, really high ceiling... but at this point, I just want the kid to get a couple of fat paychecks and see them through. Everything on top of that would be gravy.

Many people didn't know he could shoot. Has nice touch out to 17 feet. He has to work on his hands and moving his feet on defense. Will be a terror when guarded by 1 defender by year 3.

He was my favorite big man prospect entering the season, because he's a physical specimen-- looks like a shorter Dwight Howard. However, not unlike Dwight, he doesn't really have any post moves, and unlike Dwight, he was surprisingly not as elite on the boards as I would've expected for his size-- his DR% wasn't even top 400 in the country, and his OR%, while better, just cracked the top 150.

Despite all of this, with that body and his energy on both ends, combined with his shot blocking, his putback abilities, and his ability to draw fouls at a phenomenally high rate (#1 of all major conference players in that category), he's easily worth a look late-lotto, mid-first round, because his floor is fairly high... and if you can crank the rebounding up and give him a couple of post moves, he could start for a long time.

In response to Reply # 25

He doesn't have Laettner's post abilities, especially on defense, largely because Laettner was bigger, longer, and stronger, but he's a tough son of a bitch with good size for a 4, he works his ass off (he flat out out-worked Bam Adebayo early in the season), and he's got a wet jumper from both mid-range and 3. He's also a high-IQ player who passes really well. This is a great combination.

While he does have some nifty post moves, I think his highest strength for a team would be as a stretch 4, because, well, that's where the game is going. If he wants to play consistently in the paint at the next level, I think he'd need to bulk up considerably if he wants to defend down there, and he doesn't have very good big man length... but he's also not really fast enough to defend the outside, so he'll need to work his ass off to not struggle defensively.

Still, although he wasn't the college player that either Laettner or, say, Nick Collison was, if both of them stuck around for a decade, I'd like Leaf to stick for minimum 6-8 years. How good he'll be depends on how strong he gets and if he lands in the right opportunity. The ceiling for him to be a solid starter in the NBA is there, though.

On one hand, the length is elite, and he can actually shoot out to mid-range, which is a lot more than most raw bigs can say. So he's worth the gamble.

That said, he doesn't pass the eye test of "playing smoothly," as he does seem awkward out there-- maybe because he desperately needs strength, but he seems stiff and/or stilted both in transition and in the post. He'll occasionally bust an eye-opening sprint out... but it's rarely pretty. He doesn't have really any post game at all right now and he's turnover prone, a bad combination. In short, he's really really raw, and you wonder what he brings to the table that's special other than basic height and length. He rebounds well... but should be better. He blocks well... but, again, should be better. He should have the speed to get things done on defense... but his speed tends to be straight line, not side to side.

The question becomes if you think your team can build his muscle quickly and help his feel become more natural. If so, then he can absolutely be an NBA big who sticks and could have a long career due to his shooting. However, the bust factor is there.

Ridiculously high motor, outstanding body, huge offensive rebounder, big-time shot blocker, bouncy for a big, defends the PNR really well. Any team could use minutes from him.

That said, he's not a great finisher, doesn't really have any post moves, gets too excited on defense looking for the block and either loses track of a guy or commits a silly foul. Really raw.

If he can learn some post moves-- and he's young, so it's not impossible-- then he could be of real value. If not, then yeah, Biyombo at best.

Love that he's got prototypical NBA size, he shoots from distance well, finishes very well, and has promise to be a good defender.

However, if he wants to start, he needs to become a better rebounder and he needs to bulk up his body. He needs to have the option to get more physical if need be, and right now I'm not sure he's quite ready to do that. The game is going toward players like him though, so he should get his opportunities.

I thought he might slip and go to a good team. He is a good rebounder. He could benefit from a well-defined role and playing behind some good vets. Can't throw this guy to the wolves yet but he has potential. Is he a 4 long term? Needs to make some adjustments if so.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I was high on him after last season-- good wingspan, good footwork, good finisher, good rebounder, good IQ. But he struggled to fix his jump shot, leaving me to wonder if he can work as a stretch 4, and he struggles on both ends with his strength and physicality. He'd routinely get outmuscled by bigger guys in college in the post, so if he couldn't hang *then,* then I doubt he could hang in the pros down low.

Another 20-25 pounds, and fixing his jumper, would help him live up to the lottery expectation of his first year. However, seems more like he'll reside as a tweener who struggles to find his spot in the league until then.

Maybe he could be a little longer or a little more proven against elite players, but he's terrifically strong with good lateral quickness, a really high IQ, and a 40%+ three-point shot. Very high motor, very good on the offensive glass.

He has the strength to play the small ball 4 in today's NBA. He's not on Draymond's level, but he can fill a similar role on a team interested to play this way, and I wouldn't be surprised if he continued to grow as a player and surprise the teams that pass on him.

All he can do is shoot. That's a good one dimension for a big guy to have, but there are sooooo many questions. He can't defend. He isn't quick laterally. He doesn't play physical. He needs strength badly. He is pretty low-motor and would disappear from games. These are not good things.

On the right team he could be a catch-and-shoot spread-the-floor-off-the-bench guy, maybe. I think he'd be better suited for Europe.

His lateral quickness isnt great. He played zone and usually at center, so we don't know a lot about how his defense will translate. He was actually quite good defensively in the middle of he zone....except for when he was completely overmatched size wise and physically. He blocks shots and is a decent athlete with a good feel for the game. He might be able to become a decent defender, but does need to get stronger.

... can defend in the NBA without lateral quickness or physicality. And Lydon doesn't really have either. He's not nearly fast enough to keep up with wing guys, most stretch 4s would keep him out of his defensive comfort zone, and I think 5s in the PNR would pick him apart.

I'm not sure the lateral quickness will ever get him to the outside, so he'll have to build strength and start playing with consistent physicality and grit. I just wouldn't bet on it.

He's got a great body, good rebounding skills, and a good motor but he's not a great athlete, and while he's a smart player with good feel on the floor, I wonder how he'll hang against superior athletes who can match his size at the next level unless he can learn to shoot or defend consistently without fouling. He's a good rebounder but not a shot blocker.

A very old-school type of player in a league that doesn't play many guys like him any more. Without improved shooting or improved speed/leaping, I'm not sure he'll start unless he lands in a fortunate situation.

Elite rebounder, elite shot blocker, elite defender. Undersized for a center, but in a league where more and more teams stretch four guys and let a high-motor guy work hard in the paint, he fits the bill. There might not be a better guy in the draft at playing without the ball in his hands. One of the highest IQ, highest motor players in the draft. Can genuinely defend 2 through 5.

Not only all of that... but he's improved terrifically over the years. Used to be low discipline as a defender, now he's the most disciplined. Used to be a lousy FT shooter, now he's above 70%. If you gave this dude another 1.5 inches, he's Tristan Thompson with better shot blocking and FT making. Plenty of teams could use a guy like this, and don't be surprised if he's on the "steals of the 2017 draft" lists years down the line.

There are questions about whether he can learn to distribute more, but his immediate role is pretty clear. Come off the bench, run, score, defend, be scrappy.

A score-first combo guard who comes off the bench and gives you 8-10 points and 3-4 assists feels like the least you'll get with Jackson. Freak athlete, terrific outside shooter, high character guy. A little undisciplined defensively, as are most freshmen, but he's got the tools to be a really good one. Needs to tighten his handle if he wants to consistently be not just a shooter, but a scorer.

The question of "can he run the point?" is a hard one to pin down. The potential is there, and he's a good passer, but he definitely looked to score first most of the season. I think the right team fit would suit him well in that regard... and if he's able to get to the 5-6 APG level, then he could be a starter. That's a pretty big if though, and it's a few years away.

Safer to bet on him sticking as a combo guard off the bench type, with the potential for more. Whoever takes him end of first/early second is getting good talent for the draft spot.

Solid backup guard. Great defender. They will not be able to keep him out of the paint. Played out of position in college. Should have a solid career with the right team and given an opportunity.
